I knew I had to tell a similar story. Barton, Tennessee became the fictional town where an estranged grandfather and grandson must navigate the rocky waters of "family."
When I read words like, "This is my favorite Heather Burch book yet," I know that others feel the same sense of love and appreciation for our soldiers.
Thank you to everyone who has read Something Like Family. If you haven't, I hope you'll give it a try.

/author_blog_posts/13948722-so-what-is-women-s-fiction Fri, 16 Sep 2016 09:37:51 -0700 So what IS women's fiction? /author_blog_posts/13948722-so-what-is-women-s-fiction We've always known that women's fiction as a genre deals more with one woman's journey than the romantic relationship she may find during that journey. (She also may find no romantic relationship whatsoever.)
Now me, I'm a romantic at heart. My books will always have some sprinkling of romance. It's my M.O.
But a true women's fiction novel is going to expand the main character's journey until we have such a strong sense of her inner life, family struggles, past, conflicts, fears, what drives her, what stops her cold that we could easily step through the page and into her shoes. It is a story of a woman. It is a story that we can relate to because it is--in at least some small way--a mirror of our own lives.
There can only be great triumph where there has been great failure. We live these moments with the main character and when we're finished reading, we close our eyes and hold the book to our hearts.
What is a women's fiction novel to you? What books are some of your favorites?

/author_blog_posts/1422160-a-little-about-the-halflings Sat, 30 Jul 2011 18:15:57 -0700 A Little About the Halflings /author_blog_posts/1422160-a-little-about-the-halflings And they wouldn't stop.
I knew their names, descriptions, character traits... I'm not talking about three or four characters.
A dozen. At least.
It was like I KNEW these guys. It was like I'd watched their lives unfold. And I felt REALLY strongly about wanting to be the one to tell "their" story. Stories, actually. Yes, there are three books coming out soon, but there are others as well.
So, prepare to meet Mace-the solid hero, Raven-the bad boy with a soft heart, and Vine-the "kid brother" who's possibly the best fighter to ever walk the earth. I hope you enjoy their story. I've really enjoyed telling it. Hugs!
