A special bundle of three of Jo Nesbø's award-winning crime titles starring the inimitable Detective Harry Hole.

""
"Nemesis: "A man is caught on CCTV, shooting dead a cashier at a bank. Harry begins his investigation but after a dinner with an old flame, wakes up with no memory of the last 12 hours. Then the girl is found dead and he begins to receive threatening emails: is someone is trying to frame him for her death?
""
"The Devil's Star: "When a young woman is murdered in her Oslo flat and a tiny red diamond in the shape of a five-pointed star is found behind her eyelid, Harry is assigned the case alongside his long-time adversary Tom Waaler. The Redbreast, Nemesis, and The Devil’s Star are books three through five in the Harry Hole series, the first three books set in Oslo. I’m not the biggest lover of Harry Hole, but the stories are enjoyable enough. With these three stories, I found myself addicted to the underlying story that developed throughout.
With each book telling an individual crime, there was something lingering throughout that I was desperate to see come together. It was certainly interesting to see the way everything developed, and I appreciated the growing story, but I did feel as though the way things finally came together in The Devil’s Star was somewhat anticlimactic.
If you’re a fan of crime thrillers, then I’d certainly recommend giving this series a try. However, I doubt they will every make it to my favourite list.
For some reason on Good Reads you cannot call up each jo nesbo book separately. Anyway, I just finished Nemesis and am about to begin Devil Star. Kind of can't put these down. I did think that Redbreast was better than Nemesis, although that is really splitting hairs..
I've only read The Redbreast so that is what I am reviewing. I will read the other two as the library gets them in.
The Redbreast ties mystery, history and current affairs into one compelling novel. It is intense and very addictive. I would find myself being drawn to it even when I didn't have time to read. I would try to sneak in a few pages at a time just so I could see what happened next. There is some jumping around in timelines so you need to be prepared to keep up with some different stories and characters but they will all come together in the end. If you like WWII history and mysteries then you will probably enjoy this book. I am not sure how these three books tie in together or if they even do but I really like this author and will be finishing this set.
I've been reading this trilogy for nearly a year. Gack! It's simply because I keep picking up other things than this. It's not a slight on Jo Nesbo at all. His Harry Hole character is terrific, and the translation is a breeze to read. I finished Redbreast last year, and didn't start Nemesis until the first week of August 2012. I'm half-way through Nemesis and am really enjoying it. I still highly recommend Jo Nesbo to anyone who like police procedurals/murder mysteries with fractured protagonists.
And, 6 months after I wrote this, I've finished! Opinion still the same - quite enjoyed The Devil's Star.
Yeah, OK, another flawed, alcoholic detective who's propped up by people who can't help wanting to look after him, including a young and talented colleague and the woman who can't let him go.
Despite that, I like the twisty plots, the exotic location, the sheer heft of them. I like a lot of words since I read so stupidly fast. The scenery, places and characters are developed and interesting and although one baddie is clearly identified fairly early on, the rest are suitably obscured, with red herrings (hah! appropriate fish) galore. I learned a fair bit about the politics of the second world war, too.
finished Red Breast and Nemesis and read Snowman a while back, which is brilliant! Nemesis slightly less brilliant but warmed right up to a "couldn't put it down" book in the last third. His plots, the twists and turns are excellent, his characters are also very real. I love this guy, the author, even more than Harry! I have now completed the final book, Devil's Star, and again it warned up to a frenzy toward the end. Another brilliant book by a clever writer. I can't wait to start to next one.
Great - couldn't wait to read this book to see the resolution of the cliffhanger from 'The Redbreast'. But!! They still haven't got the villain, so I'll have to get hold of the next one! Really enjoy these; love Harry Hole, he's a bit like Harry Bosch in the Michael Connolly books. Great escapism, and 'un-putdownableness' which is always good to take your mind off things
Yes the book is set in Oslo, no it is not the next Girl with the Dragon Tattoo regardless of what the publisher would like to state. The Harry Hole series are an enjoyable crime drama series which centres around a very flawed lead character. The books are engaging however some of the story lines got a little far-fetched.
The Oslo Trilogy is a collection of three books written by Jo Nesbo, all featuring Harry Hole as the flawed and interesting central character. Harry Hole is a Norwegian homicide detective. The trilogy includes "The Redbreast", "Nemesis" and "The Devil's Star". I think this collection is only available on Kindle and was an excellent buy.
I have become addicted to the Harry Hole series. My advice is to read them in order and the sets are great because you can roll from one to the next when you need to carry on. Some are slightly better than others but there is always lots of plot twists, interesting characters who will revile you and engage you. The translations read as smoothly as if they were originally written in English.
Overall I greatly enjoyed this trilogy. Jo Nesbo has an intriguing and somewhat convoluted method of storytelling. The style was definitely a bit foreign and the British translation jolting at times; I found the first and third books to be a bit harder to get into. It was fine to read this set without having read previous: I didn't feel character development or story suffered.
If you are looking for a good, well-written Mystery/Detective series, with believable and interesting plots, and a believable and compelling main character, I don't think that you can do much better than Jo Nesbo's Harry Hole series.
As this system seems to not separate novels out for this author!! I have clicked on this as I have read them all that have been translated and are Harry Hole books and enjoyed every one. The kind of book one wants to just read and push the world on pause until done. EXCELLENT....
These novels all take place in Oslo and are based around the detective Harry Hole. If you like crime fiction you will love these books. Great stories with complex characters and plot lines that are not predictable.
Loved these mysteries. Love Harry Hole, the aging alcoholic who also happens to be a great cop. Frankly, I liked these novels better than the Girl with the dragon tattoo, etc. books, which I also enjoyed. But I'm often swept up by good characters whom I like, and I just love Harry Hole!
I found these books kind of disappointing. The plots were great, but the flow of the story seemed a little clunky - I don't know if this is a result of the translation or not. I'm also tired of alcoholic police detectives.
For some reaon, Å·±¦ÓéÀÖ will not allow you to choose just "The Devil's Star" by itself.... Another fantastic Harry Hole story. I saw someone had referred to him as the "anti-hero".... That is the perfect description. I look forward to the latest "The Phantom".
The Oslo trilogy was my first intro to Jo Nesbo, and I am hooked. He captures the whole sense of the Nordic Noir that I like, brooding, angst, questions, and just kind of anti establishment within the establishment. What more could you ask for?
Nesbo is a great writer. He keeps you in suspense from page one until the last page. He gives good insights into detective work and eases you into the mindset of each character.
Great series. Really raced through these books and didn't get bored with the characters like I did a little bit at the end of The girl With the Dragon trilogy.
