I REALLY loved this book. I put off reading it because of my so-so reaction to DEVIL WITHOUT A CAUSE, the first book in this series. I felt this book moved so much smoother than the first.

With Samael and Gabriel actually being the main characters in this book, I felt more of a connection to Sammy and got to understand him better. You see a soft side of him that wasn’t there in book 1. His involvement with his son truly helps him as does his meddling with Gabriel.

With her sister pretty much declared dead after two years and the guilt of her parents death that lead them both into foster care, Hope Henderson attempts to take her own life only to be stopped by the devil himself. Now in order to save her sister, who isn’t dead, she must translate and publish online a book of demon spells.

Sammy, who believes Gabe has never been tempted by a woman in his life, puts Hope right in his path to tempt him. True to who Gabe is, he instantly follows her when he sees darkness following her and is shocked by his bodily reaction to her.

Getting off to a rough start, Gabe finally realizes Sammy’s part in this game he is playing. Although he intends to help Hope find her sister, Charity, he can’t allow her to publish the book, which unless another option is discovered, will lead to her death.

After an intense kiss, the One speaks to Gabe and makes him human, wanting him to follow his heart and learn from this experience. Soon, him and Hope are tumbling into pleasure like nothing he’s ever known before.

Meanwhile, they track down Charity and Hope is shocked at what her sister has been through. Just as they are reuniting, demons attack and Hope, along with Charity are dragged off. Sammy appears to Gabe and offers him a way to save the woman he loves if he will only sacrifice himself.

While waiting for his fate, Sammy tells Gabe his son, Cain, was taken and they only way to get him back is for Gabe to willing sacrifice himself for Sammy. When the time comes, Sammy admits to loving his son and Gabe is willing to die for his brother, whom finally knows love.

Luckily, neither brother has to suffer loss, for He set this up to show Sammy the lengths a father will go for his son and the length brothers should go for each other.

The One also gives Gabe his reward for faithfully serving him. Now he has a lifetime with Hope. Gabe instantly returns to Hope. Waking her, Gabe proposes in a way only an angel can.

Listening to his son tell his story of captivity, Sammy later finds him being read to by the beautiful Charity. Noticing that Charity doesn’t recognize him, he proposes a double date sometime with Gabriel and Hope.

ooooh, what a fantastic book! I'm not sure what to say without giving too many spoilers ahead...I loved loved loved all the characters and this book was even better than the first and I'm very curious about the next one. Please, Terri Garey, hurry with writing, I can't wait to read about the next couple. Aaaand I do hope that Nyx will getting his own book, I bet inside that fearsome exterior he is just a big soft marshmallow :) ------ the basics: third person multiple POVs (but mainly h/H), past tense, a fantastically written story with lots of twists and suspense, great h/H and lovable side characters, no cheating, no OW/OM, happy ending (although no epilogue and I assume we will get to see more of them in the next book as side characters, I wouldn't call it a HFN because it's clearly certain they are going to live a long happy life together, children and grandchildren included). I would highly recommend this book. It goes straight into my favorites folder.

Sammy aka the Devil is frustrated with being cast out from heaven and most of all with Gabriel trying to prove to him that temptation can be resisted. Sammy decides to put Gabriel to test and see if he can resist the allure of a human female and the need to touch her the way an archangel are not allowed to do. Sammy decides to put a girl in Gabriel's path and at the same time getting something that he wants in return.

Hope tries to commit suicide and wants to succumb to the darkness. When Sammy hears her call he comes and provides her with an offer: transcribe the Key of Solomon onto the internet to open the gates of hell. In return Sammy will help her find her sister who has been missing for 2 years and Hope thinks is dead. Hope always carried a tremendous weight on her shoulder, the guilt of her parents death and not taking better care of her younger sister.

Gabriel notices a dark shadow following a girl as he sits outside at a cafe and tries to protect her. As he follows her to her apartment she thinks he is a stalker and Gabriel has to defend himself and try to convince her he is there to protect her. Hope thinks that Gabriel has been sent by Sammy to ensure that she transcribes the Key of Solomon.

After convincing her he is not there to hurt her Hope opens up to him to allow him to help her. Gabriel feels a spark for Hope that he has never felt before for any human woman in his existence, but is he willing to allow his temptation get a hold of him. What happens next surprised me as I did not expect for the situation to happen, but to lead to lots of action and dramatic events.

Ultimately the story is about forgiveness, sacrifice and love. Each character in the story struggles with these themes including Sammy. I love the interaction between Hope and Gabriel but I also LOVED Sammy's side story with his son, Cain which tied everything together. The ending with Sammy and Cain was a pivotal point to the direction where future books in the series may lead. I loved the ending which was both surprising and left lots of possibilities for all the characters.

I have to say it again I LOVE SAMMY! I love seeing the vulnerable side of him (made me want to reach out and hold him in my arms and show him some loving). Such a SEXY BEAST! :)

Hope has lived with a lot of guilt over the years, starting when she was 12 years old with her parents untimely death. She and her sister were separated in the foster care system, then again two years ago when her sister went missing. Hope hits bottom when she is told her sister is most likely dead and does the unthinkable.

Gabriel, an Archangel and long time "friend" to Sammy Divine, knows Sammy is salvageable and capable of love, if only he can get Sammy to see it. Sammy feels Gabriel needs to see that Sammy was not completely at fault when he gave into temptation in the Garden of Eden.

One fateful day, Gabriel sees the Darkness following Hope and is determined to protect her from the Soul Eater. Gabriel and Hope's lives collide with help from Sammy Divine and begin spiraling together.

Once again Terri Garey succeeded in quenching my Sammy Divine thirst while giving us a great story about Gabe and Hope. I flew through this as I usually fly through Terri Garey's book and cannot wait until the next installment. I enjoyed seeing Nicki in this book and I find myself eating up any information as to how she is doing with her HEA :)

Torn between 4 and 5 stars. But I guess I can always change it later. I zoomed through this book. I loved Hope and Gabriel.Yes Gabe and Hope fell for each other very quickly. But I think as Gabes's character that yeah he feels everything more anyway so why not love? Hope annoyed me sometimes and then at other times I was like yeah I can relate. But they were great for each other and I think that by the end they saved each other. Oh man and the end proposal was great.

Sammy as always steals the show. Sammy is suppose to be bad but well "hell", I don't want him to be. I don't remember Pandora in the other book and she was there more I think as a filler for Sammy's happy to get busy times. Oh man Cain steals the scene that he is in. I loved Cain and his best friend Tesla. They were so freaking cute together. The ending was a pretty good set up for the next book which felt like it would be Finally Sammy's book. Crosses fingers".

I hate being late on this review but I really struggled reading this book. I so wanted to like this book, but it just didn’t hit the spot for me as the first in the series. Sad, I know but I have to be honest.

Gabriel and Hope just didn’t carry that spark I needed for a couple to really connect. I also didn’t feel that Gabriel and Hope got enough storyline between everything else going on. I needed to read more on them instead of Sammy and so much of his life. As for Hope, I didn’t care for why she killed herself. I know it’s just me, but it wasn’t a big enough reason for her to just go out right suicidal.

I did like the storyline with Sammy and I liked his son added into the story. One thing about Sammy he knows how to twist things to his advantage which makes the story more interesting, so much so you just can’t want read what he’s up to next.

I think I have finally lost my taste for romances....even those with supernatural characters! And they don't get much more supernatural than the Angel Gabriel and the Devil! Still hoping for another Nicki Styx mystery from this author!

Review Courtesy of Dark Faerie Tales

Quick & Dirty: A discovery of love, in all its many forms, along with brotherly ragging and child stubbornness.

Opening Sentence: The water in the bathtub was warm, soothing, and a beautiful shade of red.

The Review:

I have a confession to make. I wasn’t sure whether or not I would enjoy a book where an Archangel gets down and dirty with a woman. It sounds similar to many of the other angel books available right now. Well, let me put your mind at ease. This is a wonderful book. The Archangel Gabriel’s “down and dirty is not so much smut, as it is romantic. Tastefully written and truly captivating, A Devil Named Desire is more about love and redemption for all creatures, even angels. I love a good biblically themed story and this one definitely delivers.

The Devil, known as Sammy Divine, is tired of his once brother, the Archangel Gabriel, harping on him. Sammy wants to teach Gabe a lesson in temptation and the power of physical desire. The Devil is petty and malicious and wants to put the angel in his place. But Gabriel has reminded Sammy of long forgotten emotions like love and longing, and whether he wants it or not, Sammy is influenced by them. You can see the difference in the way he treats his minions and goes about ruling his kingdom. Most of all, you can see the effects of having his son around. It’s hard for Sammy to remain aloft when Cain is around for the love of a father for his child is hard to deny. Being a parent has definitely changed him; he just doesn’t know if it’s for the better or not. For a being that has been treated with deference for a millennium, he is now thwarted by a nine-year-old boy at every turn. Will Sammy’s heart let this sweet child in? Can Sammy allow this kind of weakness in his kingdom? Is he willing to crush his son’s gentle spirit for the sake of protecting him in Shoel? Will Sammy be able to reconcile his feelings before another enemy takes advantage of them?

Gabriel’s love of Sammy and his hope for his brother’s redemption has lead him to the vulnerable Hope Henderson. She had made a bargain with the devil and is in danger of losing her soul to the Darkness. Gabriel has vowed to protect her. He should have tried harder to protect himself, for Hope becomes the true temptation of his heart. Gabe must decide whether to remain apart from his “human feelings toward Hope, or give in to his “humanity. I really like that Terri Garey allows Gabriel to remain true to his oath of loyalty to his father, the One. That his father gives him his humanity rather than watching Gabe fall from grace is truly something. It portrays God in a more loving light, and Gabriel’s inner turmoil is given a compromise that doesn’t necessarily have to be viewed as punishment, but more like an opportunity. It’s a view of Fatherly, and heavenly, love that I can appreciate even if I don’t follow the Lexicon. Will Gabriel take this opportunity to embrace love or will he too turn against his maker like Sammy? Could he have walked away from Hope and return to the heavens without regret? Can Gabriel’s openness toward love help Sammy do the same?

Hope is a web designer that is riddled with guilt. She feels responsible for the loss of her sister, Charity, and can no longer bear the weight of disappointment. When, in a moment of weakness, she tries to kill herself, Sammy swoops in and makes her a bargain. If she will create a web site that allows his followers, the demons, to enter our world in mass, he will help her find her lost sister. Hope, like most of us, is full of good intentions, but the road to hell is paved with good intentions. She is constantly making mistakes that have dire consequences. Even the simple choice to kiss Gabriel, knowing he is an angel, has lead to him becoming human. She eventually realizes that actions have consequences that saying “I’m sorry won’t fix. In the end, she accepts responsibility for herself and is willing to give her life for another. The love she has for her sister and Gabriel is what encourages her to become a better person.

This novel is packed full of understanding the other side of the coin; walk a mile in their shoes and all of that. Each of the main characters experiences firsthand the other person’s reasons and possible motivations. Sammy rediscovers love, both parental and brotherly. Gabe develops an understanding of Sammy’s perspective on humans and their lure and the motivations behind the anger toward the One. Hope recognizes that her and Charity’s mistakes share similarities in their initial intentions and that bad choices are not necessarily the end of the world. Cain and Sammy learn to be a family and therefore open themselves up to others.

Love and redemption are possible for all, even for the Devil himself.

A great find, Ms. Garey delivers an inspiring tale of heavenly ideals coupled with earthly desires. Full of love and laughter, this book is definitely one to add to your must read pile.

Notable Scene:

Cain gave a long-suffering sigh, but did as he was told. Freshly scrubbed and glowing with health, he was a beautiful child cherub-cheeked, with hair that held his mother’s curl. “There are too many forks, he complained, frowning down at the table. “And the food looks weird.

Sammy arched a brow. “Weird?

“There are no rolls, the boy went on, “and no fruit. What’s that gloppy black stuff?

“That-Sammy smiled and picked up a small triangle of toast-“is caviar. With a tiny spoon, he heaped a small portion of roe onto the toast, and handed it to the boy. “Normally we would have it as an appetizer-it’s best with champagne, which you are not allowed to have, by the way-but I wanted you to try it. You’ll love it.

Cain took the toast, making a face as he examined the caviar closely, taking a sniff. “It smells like fish.

“It is fish. Raw fish eggs, in fact.

“Ew. Cain put the toast down without trying it. “That’s disgusting. I’m not eating that.

Sammy blinked, unused to his wishes being so summarily dismissed. “It’s a delicacy, the Great and Mighty Satan explained, in an utmost attempt at patience. “Meant to be appreciated in small bites. Taste it.

“No. There was no truculence in the boy’s tone, merely a calm statement of refusal.

Sammy Devine, aka Samael, heard Hope’s call as she lay dying in her bath tub, having slit her wrists. For two years, Hope has searched for her sister, Charity, who has been missing with no clue to her whereabouts. Not knowing what happened to her was one thing, but when Charity’s purse is found by the police and she’s presumed dead, Hope just gives up. As she hovers at the brink of death, a beautiful man appears to her. He tells her that her sister is not dead and that he knows how to find her, and all she has to do is agree to do one, little thing for him. Hope is too weak, and the promise of seeing her sister again is too strong. She feels she’s failed Charity in every other way, but if there is just a slight chance that she can save her by agreeing, she must do it.

When Hope awakens, the beautiful man, Sammy, is there. Of course Hope is suspicious, she doesn’t know what is going on and Sammy is only too happy to explain it to her. He lays it all out, explaining the bargain to her. When she completes her side of it, he’ll tell her where Charity is. Hope has no idea what she’s gotten herself into, and she is still too shaken up to really understand the total significance of what she’s done.

Enter the archangel Gabriel, who’s hanging out in human form, having a cup of coffee when he notices a pretty, blonde woman walking along. While he sees her, what he really notices is the dark shadow that seems to be attached to her, following her as she walks and shops. Gabriel is intrigued, and begins to follow her as she goes on her way. He follows Hope all the way home, and as he steps into the entryway of her apartment building he is met with a very pissed off Hope who starts screaming and throwing stuff at him. As Gabriel tries to calm her down, he explains that he’s there to protect her and that he’s her guardian. Hope has no clue what is going on, but she mistakenly assumes that Gabriel is one of Sammy’s men, sent to watch over and make sure that Hope holds up her end of the bargain. She could not have been more wrong!

There is a lot going on in this story, so here’s a little background. In book one, Devil Without A Cause, we meet Samael and learn that he is a fallen angel, banished to darkness because he succumbed to a woman, enjoying the pleasures of the flesh, a huge no-no in the angel world. While he goes by many names, his character is basically the Devil and he does all the things that we expect the devil to do. We also learn, though, that before his fall, Samael and Gabriel were close, like brothers. Gabriel has not given up on Samael, thinking he can still be redeemed. Gabriel has seen Samael do good things, he’s seen him be unselfish and he truly believes that underneath all that darkness, there is still a sliver of light and he’s determined to pull Samael back into that light.

I wasn’t surprised to see more of Gabriel in book two. The relationship between Samael and Gabriel is laid out well in book one. Unfortunately, Samael is up to his old tricks as he purposely puts Hope in Gabriel’s path to tempt him. Samael knew full well that Gabriel would never be able to stop himself from trying to save Hope from the darkness. At the same time, Samael felt it was about time Gabriel got a taste of what he’d been missing. It was time to knock him off his pedestal of perfection and put the temptation of a beautiful woman right in front of him.

I liked the character of Hope. She’s been through a lot in life and all of it has made her a pretty strong person. Her acceptance of the whole “bargain with the devil thing seemed a bit too easy, initially, but once Gabriel is on the scene and really crazy stuff happens I felt she was suitably “freaked out in turn. Her attraction to Gabriel confuses her initially because she thinks he’s on Sammy’s side. When she realizes who he really is, though, it doesn’t stop her from pursuing him, even though she knows he can’t do anything about it. But Gabriel fights her; he is devout in his loyalty to The One.

This is the story of Hope and Gabriel, however, so you know there was going to be some romance and smexy time. I loved how the author handled this little issue of Gabriel’s angel status without him having to “fall in order for him to be with Hope. It really was brilliant while at the same time moving the story forward both with their relationship and with Gabriel helping Hope to locate her sister.

While all that is going on, there is a little side story of Samael and his son, Cain. Yes, Samael has a 9 year old son and he’s struggling with trying to raise him properly in the underworld. It’s such a strange situation for Samael, as he didn’t even know he had a son until his mother dropped him into Samael’s life. It is here that we see more glimpses of Samael’s “light as he is forced to do things he’d not normally do for his child.

The conflict toward the end of the story comes to a very surprising end to all involved. It is here that you once again see the strong bond between Gabriel and Samael, and I love their relationship. Clearly on opposite sides of path, that bond between these one-time brothers shines through and good once again triumphs over evil. While I really enjoyed the side stories and the continued emphasis on Samael and Gabriel, I think it took away just a little bit from the budding romance of Hope and Gabriel. While we get an HEA, I’m wondering what role, if any, Gabriel will have in future books. There has been such emphasis in just these first two books on the relationship between Gabriel and Samael I’m interested to see how the author plans on moving forward.

I’m not a big fan of anything that focuses on the “devil, but this author’s take on the darkness comes with quite a bit of humor and Sammy Devine is so likable in his role as the Prince of Darkness. I’m very interested to see where she takes the world she’s created and what else she has in store for Sammy. Though I would have liked a little more emphasis on the romance between Gabriel and Hope, I really enjoyed this.

If you haven’t read book one you should probably stop reading now. There are spoilers in all aspects of this review for book one and I can’t help that as the twist in book one is the main story for book two. Also, if you are a person of devout Catholic faith, you should probably know that this book contains a storyline which plays with traditional scripture. If neither of these things bother you, this book is a definite winner.

Hope feels that her life is over. For years, she has searched for her missing sister Charity, only to have all her dreams of a reunion shattered by the discovery of her belongings abandoned in a stream. Devastated, she does the only thing she thinks she can do; she tries to kill herself. During her last moment she calls out to the darkness and the darkness answers in the form of Sammy Devine. Sammy Devine, AKA the Devil, gives her the news she’s been waiting to hear; her sister is alive and well. Then he gives her the bad news; she’s nearly succeeded in trying to kill herself. Forcing her to do his bidding in return for a chance to reunite with her sister, he then thrusts her into the path of his brother Gabriel (the Archangel) in the hopes of teaching his brother that temptation is often very hard to resist.

Gabriel has tried to save his brother more times than he can count. Ever faithful to his maker, he scours the world to eradicate evil and when he sees the Evil surrounding Hope, he tries his hardest to intervene. She is the purest soul he has ever found and she tempts him as the man, not just as the Angel. He knows it’s forbidden to involve himself with a human, knows that he could be grounded for it, and never has he had to struggle so hard to stick to the rules. When he finds out what she has been asked to do, he realises that protecting her will be the hardest thing he has had to do. The question is, can he do it and protect his heart?

Sammy Devine has been bitter for what seems like an eternity. Banished from Heaven for falling for a woman, he has reigned over the Damned ever since. Then appeared a surprise on his doorstep, a son that he never knew that he had sired. Cain is a child running round Hell with all his creatures, playing with his heart and making him question his character. Will the son teach the Father a thing or two about himself? And will the son survive until the end of the book with his complete disregard for his own personal safety?

This is the second alt-religion book I’ve read this year and I’ve loved them both. I’ve waited for this book ever since I read the first one and it didn’t disappoint. I have to admit, I’ve never read the Nicki Styx novels, and I read the first book for the cover alone (I know, I’m a perv :D). I loved it. Sammy Divine is the reason I read these books as he is the constant in the series. In this book, he is struggling with his new role of Dad to Cain, the rambunctious little tyke I loved this storyline, loved the humour and emotion behind the whole thing. Sammy has been pretty devoid of emotion ever since his untimely exit from Heaven. When Cain arrives, he doesn’t know what to do with a boy that wants his love and approval. His protective instincts rear up when the boy starts running around the recesses of Hell. Some of the conversations made me laugh out loud; I’ve heard and had similar conversations with kids and putting them into this context lead to some fabulous scenes! I particularly enjoyed when Pandora of the deadly sins fame (AKA Aunt Pandy) arrives to help Sammy shape himself into a father. She was a fricking scream!

The main storyline is that of Gabriel and Hope. They are both such good and pure people and they both have their outlooks on life tested by the events of this tale. Neither of them come out of the book the same but I do believe they came out a lot stronger. Parts of their tale made me tear up and parts made me laugh. When Hope mistakes Gabriel as one of Sammy’s minions and douses him in peppermint I cried with laughter; it was just the most bizarre thing to do! I was torn between wanting their HEA and not because I knew what the implications would be for Gabriel. I liked Gabriel and didn’t want to see him upset. Also, kiss of death for any relationship dontcha think :O I didn’t like either of them at the start of the tale. Hope was a weak person who chose to kill herself rather than continue living without her sister. I didn’t see why she made this decision as she’s been living without her just fine for a few years! Gabriel was an idealist who judged anyone who made decisions that he didn’t agree with. By the end of the book, events had changed them into real people with real outlooks on life. I really did like them.

Overall this was a book that was better than the first. With themes of PNR and UF, it has something for everyone. With laugh out loud moments littered with tense moments and buckets of emotion, this is a series that I recommend for everyone. Loved it. Now when do I get Sammy’s book?

Terri Garey's sequel to "Devil Without a Cause" was a fun read, and equally as full of plot twists as the first book in the series. "A Devil Named Desire" digs deeper into the mind and the "angst" of Sammy Desire, or Samael.. the Devil, and provides a surprising twist in the tale with the arrival of a 9 year old son (cut from the same cloth as his father, too). The humor in this story is a light touch that relieves the angst that is so much a part of the Devil's resentment of his fate and his punishment by his Father. There is further development of the relationship between Samael and Gabriel, with a surprising development in Gabriel's story. Gabriel takes front and center in this sequel. What happens to him, and how he deals with it makes for a very entertaining read. I enjoyed the breadth and depth of the plot, which gave me an opportunity to see the Realms of Darkness (the Devil's Domain) at various levels, in various places. There was no similar "tour" of Heaven, but then, this really isn't a story about God and Heaven, it's the Devil's story. The final outcome was quite satisfying. Both Gabriel and Samael have to struggle for their rewards, but the confrontations are believable, and the outcome was interesting. I'd definitely read a follow-up tale, if Terri Garey can give us one!

I enjoyed so when A Devil Named Desire, the second book of Terri Garey's The Devil's Bargain series was offered to me, I couldn't resist. Tired of Gabriel's lectures on love and lust, Sammy B Divine seizes an opportunity when in despair, Hope tries to commit suicide. In her moment of weakness Samuel extracts a promise from the web designer, the location of her long lost sister for the dissemination of the Key - the incantations that open the gates of hell on Earth - on the world wide web. It is a move guaranteed to attract the attention of Gabriel and force the angel to confront the same temptations that caused Samuel's downfall. The devil's plan works perfectly, Gabriel is stripped of his wings and the right hand of God is now a mere mortal. There are consequences for Sammy though when his son, Cain, is kidnapped by the Leviathan and Gabriel is the only one who can save him, for how can Sammy expect Gabriel to forgive him and make the ultimate sacrifice.

It seemed at first there were two distinct stories happening with A Devil Named Desire, but it soon becomes clear they are unified by the themes that weave in amongst the plot - forgiveness and friendship. These are played out amongst the relationships between Hope and her sister, Charity, Cain and Telsa, Sammy and Gabriel, and their respective relationships with The One. I thought this showed a lot of skill on Garey's part to manage these seemingly disparate threads yet draw them together into a cohesive life lesson for all the characters. There is a lot going on under the surface of what could easily be dismissed as just another paranormal romance novel.

The PNR storyline between Gabriel and Hope actually gets a little lost in amongst Samuel's story I think. The insta-love is manipulated by the Devil and The One so it doesn't feel particularly genuine and I am not sure the right hand of God is really a good match for a woman who (accidentally) killed her parents, drove her little sister away and tried to commit suicide. Still, the fact that Gabriel is willing to become mortal to be with Hope is satisfyingly romantic. For me though, it was Samuel's relationships that had my interest.

Samuel, the Devil, is the ultimate bad boy, a master of manipulation and deceit who is nevertheless losing his taste for the wickedness and chaos he used to revel in so indiscriminately. His relationship with Nikki Styx (who makes a cameo appearance in this book) has changed him and he is having trouble adjusting to his shifting perspective. Lashing out at Gabriel is supposed to make himself feel better but instead Sammy regrets his impulsive decision even if he can't admit to it. I really like how Garey has developed Sammy into such a complex and contradictory character, not only is it a unique idea, it makes him a fascinating protagonist, unpredictable and surprisingly sympathetic. His bitterness and pain is understandable given the circumstances but it's satisfying to see him slowly let go of that piece by piece.

There is enough lust, romance and gorgeous men to keep any fan of the PNR genre happy and a storyline that will satisfy those who enjoy something with a bit more depth. A Devil Named Desire works well as a standalone though I think it helps to have background knowledge of Sammy B Divine's character found in Garey's Nikki Styx series and the previous installment of The Devil's Bargain. I am already looking forward to finding out where Sammy goes from here.

Hope Henderson is in a state of despair over her sister's supposed death. After a series of unfortunate events throughout her life--her parent's deaths and running her sister off unintentionally--Hope blames herself for everything that has gone wrong. She is so depressed, in fact, that she attempts to kill herself, unwittingly calling upon the Darkness. And that is when Sammy Divine, the devil himself, steps in to save the day.

Sammy, always the Master of Deceit, has his own agenda. Give Hope the opportunity to see her sister again, and in return Hope will create a site for his followers to worship him and his minions, as well as her immortal soul. However, Archangel Gabriel, the Lightbringer, never the one to let a good soul fall into the abyss, notices the darkness shadowing Hope, and steps up to the plate, appointing himself her protector.

I really liked this story. Gabriel, as an angel, is historically forbidden to partake in sins of the flesh, otherwise risk falling the way of his brother, Samael. He holds himself to this high standard, looking down on his fallen brethren because he cannot comprehend his temptation as he has never been tempted. Until he meets Hope. Hope appears to be anything but attracted to him, which boggles his mind and captures his attention more thoroughly than whatever game the Devil is playing at.

I had a few problems with the wording. It seems the author has a style that can be a little backwards at times, but overall, the tone was perfectly fine. I also noticed a few typos, but that is nothing compared to the actual leaving out of words. That was my biggest annoyance throughout this book. In the end, I couldn't hold it against the author because there were some great passages that were beautifully written. Everything about it was dark and sensuous, temptation wrapped in pleasure that has the power to create a flutter in your belly as first love is recognized and acted upon. I loved the connection between Gabe and Hope, but I was attracted to Sammy's role in all of this too, curious to see how his life will play out in the end. Try as he might to be evil, there is no doubt there is a heart somewhere deep down beneath that clever, crafty, devilish facade.

Great read, I recommend it to all who love a little romance wrapped in deviltry.

Oh Sammy Divine, finally we meet again. First of all can we all take a look at that fine looking man on that cover? Okay, now that we have drooled and hoped that those pants would slip a little further down, lets get down to the details of the book.

It seems like I have waited forever to read more about Sammy Divine -- or The Devil -- and the bargains he would be making with the next unfortunate soul on Earth. This time not only is he going to be tormenting a human soul on Earth, but he is going to throw in his 'brother' Gabriel as well. Gabriel is always trying to convince Sammy that there is hope for him at redemption. Sammy doesn't believe it and decides to teach Gabe a lesson. So Sammy convinces Hope to become a pawn in his game by striking a 'bargain' with her. He blackmails her at her lowest point in life -- at the suicidal point -- and tells her he will give her what she wants in the form of her missing sister if she will translate a book of spells to open the doors to Hell on Earth. She agrees to the bargain and Gabe is thrown into the mix when he realizes she is being followed by evil. As an angel of the Heavens, he becomes her Guardian and swears to protect her. Together they try to find her sister and find a way out of the deal with Sammy.

I really enjoyed this latest installment in the series. The only problem I had with it was the fact that it was suppose to be about Gabriel and Hope but instead it seemed that Sammy had more page time than them. Don't get me wrong, I loved what little time we got to read about Gabe and Hope, but Sammy seemed to be the bigger focus this time around. As you get closer to the end though, you start to realize why Sammy was such the dominant character in this book. Instead of Sammy teaching Gabe a lesson, it seems the the Higher One is actually teaching Sammy a lesson and pointing him on the true path of redemption.

I am looking forward to the next book in the series and I hope we get to read even more of Sammy and his bargains. I do hope that when the series continues to progress, Sammy will get his own book and hopefully love with a happily ever after. You never know, maybe the Devil can even have the coveted true love and happy life.

I enjoyed this book more than , but I still found it to be a little disappointing. As with that book, my main complaint is that not enough time was spent on Sammy. I will say that A Devil Named Desire does spent more time with him than the previous one did, but I still spent a lot of time wishing the narrative would get back to his POV.

The scenes between Gabe and Sammy were great. There is some serious tension between the two of them. I also enjoyed the parts (and there were way too few of these) where we find out more about Sammy’s backstory and his fall from grace.

Most of the time we see Sammy interacting with his son and musing about what it means to be a father. Many people seem to really love this, but for me it’s just not what I was looking for in a book about the devil. Especially a book about the devil with a half-naked man on the cover. I was really hoping that this would be a story where Sammy meets a woman that he is really compatible with and that helps him get over Nicki, but that’s not the case. We do get a little bit of something at the end, but it just seems contrived and tacked on.

Gabe’s internal struggles with the temptation were interesting to read. But I didn’t really like how it was all resolved:

sammy memiliki putra dari persephone, goddes of nature.

back to cain, sammy's son. walo sammy terkenal kejam & tanpa ampun tapi sammy ingin putranya tumbuh besar dengan sewajarnya.
dia ingin cain juga bangga padanya.

aq suka nih sama cain. polos & sangat ceria.

The first book in this series is Devil Without a Cause. That was the first book in which I met Sammy the Devil but this series is the offshoot of another, Nicki Styx. I haven't read those yet, but I promise you I will! So, as you can see, you do not have to have read the original series to enjoy this one... and Sammy in particular. *wink* You also don't have to read the first one to know what is going on in this book, but I do suggest it. You will understand where Sammy is coming from so much easier that way. Plus, if you click on the title of the first you will see that the cover is as yummy as this one so you will be wanting both. ;)

Now that is settled, I have to say I enjoyed this book. In this one, Sammy is determined to teach his only friend and brother, Gabriel, a thing or two about temptation. Of course this is the devil and no matter how selfish his plans may be, it has unintended consequences. Some that even inspire a bit of guilt with in Sam. Also, Sam is taking care of... or trying to take care of, his new found son and is learning a few lessons himself. I have to admit, that was my favorite part of this whole book.

The other part of the book is about Gabriel and Hope. Both find themselves in a position they never would have fathomed. Both needing to trust in the other to find their way though the mess. Both of them willing to see it through. Oh and do I even need to mention that Gabe is hot? I mean really would you expect an angel to be otherwise??? ;)

I give this book 4 stars. I really am enjoying this series. If you want to play a bit with the devil, Sammy Devine is your man... er... demon. ;)

Samuel 'Sammy' Divine is a fallen angel, the devil. His brother, Gabriel, is an archangel and still in heaven's good graces. Gabriel knows that his brother Sammy isn't all bad, but he can't keep from nagging him to do better. So when the chance arises for Sammy to get back at Gabriel, he takes it.

Hope Henderson's sister is missing and her devastation leads her to a suicide attempt. Sammy jumps in at the right moment to offer Hope a deal. He'll help her find her sister, if she will do something for him. All she has to do is create a website that will allow his demon followers to enter the human world. Hope takes the deal without even thinking of the consequences.

One of Gabriel's jobs is to protect Hope, much to Sammy's dismay and glee. But what Gabriel doesn't count on is his feelings for Hope. When Gabriel is stripped of his wings and made mortal, he is tormented and conflicted. Sammy is used to being the bad boy, so he isn't sure why he feels any regret for setting his brother up like that. But later, when Sammy's son, Cain, is kidnapped, only Gabriel can save him. But why would he bother when Sammy has cost him so much?

With romance, family relationships and beliefs, A DEVIL NAMED DESIRE is a great addition to author Terri Garey's the DEVIL'S BARGAIN series. This installment can be read as a standalone, but you won't want to miss the fun in the first book, DEVIL WITHOUT A CAUSE. There is much character development in this installment, namely with Sammy, but also the author explores the lines of forgiveness, love and redemption. With a few laughs, clever writing and lively characters, A DEVIL NAMED DESIRE is a must read for paranormal romance fans!

REVIEWED FOR NETGALLEY:

Hope gives up hope, literally, when she receives the news that her sister who has been missing for two years might be dead. She has carried the heavy burden of blame, and that is the straw that breaks the camel's back. She attempts to take her own life, but quickly discovers it is not meant to be when the Devil A.K.A. Sammy Divine shows up and shocks the pants off of her. It turns out that her sister is alive, and Sammy is willing to help her locate her if she does a small task for him.

When Gabriel and Hope's paths collide, he is instantly drawn to her. Being an angel has its benefits, and that is how he senses the darkness following her. When Gabriel approaches hope, she thinks he was sent by Sammy to keep an eye on her progress. It soon becomes apparent that they both are very wrong in their assumptions of one another. All Gabriel knows is that he must protect Hope with every fiber of his being, even if it leads to his downfall.

Author Terri Garey is a superbly wonderful storyteller. A Devil Named Desire is a captivating novel brimming with wickedly attractive and extremely fascinating characters, loads of wit, passionate scenes, and just the right amount of action to keep you invested. A Devil Named Desire is a page-turner, and is good til the last drop, or should I say, word. I am so looking forward to the next book in the series, and I can only hope it will be Sammy's story.

Read for Fun
Challenges: Read for Fun
Overall Rating: 4.00
Character Rating: 4.25
Story Rating: 3.75

First Thought When Finished: I *heart* Sammy! (Somehow it feels a little wrong to say that LOL)

What I Loved: To be honest, I wasn't sure how I would feel about Gabe. I love Gabe and Sammy's brotherly banter but I wasn't sure I could see him as a love interest. Boy was I wrong! I loved Gabe as a leading man. I thought he was just yummy to the extreme (breaking out my 80s lingo). He just radiated the "fall in love with me" vibe that I love in my leading men. His journey from angel to man in love was an interesting twist in this world. I also loved Sammy's side story. It is fun seeing Sammy as a dad and his son is just the perfect one to bring out Sammy's soft side.

What I Liked: Though I didn't love Hope, I did like how clearly loyal she was to her sister, Charity (who I can't wait to learn more about). I liked that Hope was willing to do almost anything to get Charity back and keep her safe. Hope had so many spot-on reactions to her circumstances that at times I felt like she deserved a break. I think the chemistry between her and Gabe was a little rushed but by the end I was really liking them as a couple.

What made me go huh?: I felt the love story was a little rushed but by the end I was rooting for Gabe and Hope.

Final Thought: Great edition to the series!

A DEVIL NAMED DESIRE by Teri Garey is an interesting paranormal romance with on Sammy and Gabriele as the main characters. It is book 2 in the "Devil's Bargain" series, but can be read as a stand alone. See, "Devil Without a Cause", the first volume in this series. Two brothers, two archangels, one a fallen angel,Samuel "Sammy" the "Devil"the angel of darkness and Gabriel, the angel of lightness and Sammy's brother. Sammy sets out to prove to Gabriel that forbidden fruit can be delicious although forbidden. Sammy is concerned the "bad boy"and Gabriel the "good one",but Sammy is really not as bad as he seems. A struggle of good vs evil, the challenge of reclaiming a soul, finding truth, peace, happiness and love could just change everything. While,I did not like the references to Bible, this is a good story that shows the love of a father for his son,and what a father would do for his son. The plot is well written. The characters are interesting, engaging, powerful in more ways than one and the story shows the depth of love, brothers, lightness and darkness. A good read for anyone who enjoys paranormal, fantasy, romance, good vs evil, heaven and hell and the power of love. Truly a tale from the dark side brought to the light.Received for an honest review from Net Galley and the publisher. Details can be found at Avon,an imprint of Harper Collins Publisher, the author's website and My Book Addiction and More.

I love Samael’s role in this series. He does things that benefit him while manipulating other people’s lives. Sam has decided that Gabriel needs to experience desire. Following a desire is what caused Sam’s fall. In the process of tempting Gabe, Sam plans on using Hope’s desperation to put a book into print on the internet so that the world will have access to the information in its pages.

I did not feel Hope and Gabriel’s insta-love. Hope had feelings of love immediately after a very traumatic event in her already depressed life after spending just a day with Gabe while assuming he is a murdering demonic slave of the Devil’s. His insta-love feelings bothered me due to the fact that he has existed a gazillion years among the humans and has never been attracted to one, then he meets Hope and immediately falls in love with her.

I will continue reading this series. I love Sammy! I also think Garey has something big in store for him with the next book. The ending leads me to believe that anyhow.

I think this book could easily be read as a standalone. The events that took place in Devil Without a Cause are not mentioned. The Nicki Styx fans that follow this series will be pleased that she has a small role in A Devil Named Desire.

Look at that cover, that right there is the type of cover I hate. Half naked, weirdly built man with no face! Aside from that, from what I can gather this is possibly the 2nd (?) in a series from Terri Garey. I'm not entirely sure, there's no mention of it on her website but there is a book called Devil Without A Cause, which has a similar weird cover. Although, that book is listed as coming soon with a release date of May 2011 so I don't think the author keeps that up to date.

I wasn't entirely sure on this book, it took me a while to read it. In fact I put it down at one point and read a couple of other books before I picked it back up again. But I'm glad I picked it back up. Sam and Gabe are well written characters, as is Hope. The story is well told and quite interesting, with a lot of religious factors in there (that's where my attention lags a bit, sorry) to bulk it out. Although there were names even I recognised, like Pandora and Leviathan.

I wonder what it says about me when I like Samael a whole lot more than I like Gabriel. That can't exactly be a good thing, that I'm more drawn to the devil and the bad guy, can it? Either way, whether you like the goody two shoes guys or the bad guys, I think you'll enjoy this book.

It seems like with each book in this series we see more and more of the real Samael. It seems odd to say, but with each book I feel more and more sorry for him, being the Devil just isn't cutting it anymore.

Sammy seems to love to tease and annoy Gabriel, his brother, the only one that seems to talk to him any more. Even with all the bad things that Sammy has done, Gabriel still wants to believe in him even as he yells at him.

Sammy, being the devil, sets up Gabriel. He wants to him to see what life is like when you no longer have wings, and he has set up the perfect temptation in Hope. With Hope, not only is she beautiful, but Gabriel sees her as a soul that needs to be saved, something that is very attractive to an angel.

Things seem to go about the way you expect. Everyone makes the proper sacrifice along the way, but sometimes their motivation is not what you expect. I thought the best thing about this book was the last chapter, the chat he has in his home gives me hope that Sammy will get his HEA someday.

It's funny, I have all of Terri Garey's Nicki Styx books sitting on my shelf to read...I read 2 when they first came out and now am going to reread plus read all of them in one sitting. Anyway, I found while reading this book I kept looking forward to the moments when Cain and Sammy Devine were in it. I laughed my self silly over the interaction of the big bad Devil and one precocious, innocent *snort*, 9 year old boy! (I'm not telling who wins in those skirmishes) The main story is about God's right hand Angel, Gabriel, and a truly good soul, Hope, who makes some ver-ry bad decisions and owes Big "D" one hell of a payback. "D", or Sammy as he likes to be called, sets Gabriel up for a fall, just to sort of say "nee ner, nee, ner"...and fun is had by all! Until our 9 year old winds up in mortal danger and Sammy will go to any lengths to save him...I sooo enjoyed this. I adored little Cain and the mischief he gets into...yep, that's a 9 year old boy for you. Thanks Terri for one Hell of a GOOD read }:)

3 1/2 stars. Distraught by the reported death of her sister, Hope decides to kill herself, thus ending her pain. However, as she slips away a man appears and tells her that her sister is alive and he will tell Hope where she is, if Hope will do one little thing for him. Of course the man is Sammy, aka Satan and he is really setting a trap for Gabriel, the archangel. It is a love trap, but a trap never the less.

I liked this book. I lked the first book, Devil Without a Cause., better. But this one was a good bit of paranormal fluff. Everyone needs that now and then. Unlike many paranormal romance series, we do see the character of Sammy growing. It is nice to think that even a 10,000 year old evil monster can learn new tricks

I really think it's more like 2.5 stars, I really did not like Gabe and Hope together. I had high hopes for Gabe and I really did not like Hope. I liked the opening where Sammy comes to her but that was about it. I really disliked how after knowing him for less than a day, she's "in love" with Gabe. I just felt no chemistry whatsoever between these two. I found myself skimming the scenes where it was only Gabe and Hope and looking for Sammy's appearance. The saving grace of the book is Sammy and his antics, hence the 3 stars, not 2.

Personally, I love this author. With her Nikki Styx series, Terri Garey has taken elements of Creation (God, Angels, etc) & forbidden love to make a tall "twisted" ice cream cone chock full of nuts, toffee, fruity stuff & other cool stuff...

If you can get past the twisted take on God (redefined as "The One"), Satan (aka "Sammy"), a Chief Archangel with a "Love Jones", & a Demon with a Heart for a Snotty-nosed little brat, then this just may be the book for you..
