Suzanne Enoch

Suzanne was born in Southern California sometime in the latter half of the 20th century. In the way that some people are born knowing they want to be astronauts or cellists, Suzanne always knew she wanted to be a writer. Early dreams of becoming a zoologist and writing true stories about her adventures in Africa were crushed, however, after she viewed a television special about the world’s most poisonous snakes; she did NOT want to write about how she’d been bitten and lost a limb to a cobra. Thankfully at the same time the movie “Star Wars premiered, and she realized that she could make up adventures and write about them, and not be eaten by deadly predators while doing research.

She dabbled in romantic fantasy writing for a year or two after graduating with a degree in English from the University of California, Irvine, until her affection for traditional Regency romances led her to write one for fun. After several encouraging rejections from publishers, she snared the interest of the world’s best and most patient literary agent, who advised her to revise the manuscript. This ultimately led to the publication of her first book, The Black Duke’s Prize, from Avon Books in the Spring of 1995. A second Regency, Angel’s Devil, followed that Fall.

When Avon folded its traditional Regency line, Suzanne was encouraged to try her hand at historical romance. As she remained keenly interested in England’s Regency period, she decided to attempt another manuscript set in that time. Lady Rogue hit the shelves in March of 1997. She wrote a total of 29 books for Avon, including two anthologies and a five-part contemporary series which received a pair of starred reviews from Publishers Weekly. One of those books, Twice the Temptation, was named one of the five best romances of the year by PW in 2007.

In 2002 her well-known love of all things “Star Wars led to an invitation to appear on the E! channel in the television special “Star Wars: The Force Is Back, where she discussed the romance in the movie series and ended up with more air time than George Lucas.

In 2010 Suzanne left Avon Books for St. Martin’s Press, where she continues to pen historical romance novels. Her 31st book, Taming an Impossible Rogue, is set to arrive in March 2012.

Suzanne is known for her humorous characters, sexy bad boys, and whip-sharp, witty dialogue. She currently resides in Placentia, California with several hundred guppies and various other tropical fish, and handful of very loud, spinach-loving finches. And her collection of action figures and statues from “Star Wars, “Lord of the Rings, “X-Men, and “Pirates of the Caribbean. Everybody needs some inspiration, after all.

Fans of both Lisa Kleypas and Julia Quinn should really take a look at Suzanne Enoch’s books. As a fan of both Kleypas and Quinn, it’s hard to find another author that grabs my attention as they do. However, upon picking up TAMING AN IMPOSIBLE ROGUE, I knew right away that Enoch would become an author I would be interested in reading more of.

The opening paragraph alone captured my attention and it was then that I realized that I was missing out big time.

“Keating Blackwood came awake with the sharpness of gunfire. Someone was in the room with him. Someone he hadn’t invited. Keeping his eyes closed, he stirred enough that he could slip his hand under the pillow and curl his fingers around the hilt of the knife resting there.

Immediately, Keating became a character I was instantly attracted to. He is called “Bloody Blackwood because of his past actions. Six years ago, an event transpired that caused him to leave the ton, causing rumors to spread about his inappropriate actions and ruining any noble reputation he had before.

Similarly, the heroine of this book, Camille Pryce has also been shunned by society when she ran away from her own wedding to a man named Stephen Pollard, the Marquis of Fenton. Fenton is actually Blackwood’s cousin and he is outraged when Camille leaves him hanging, thus making him the laughing stock of society because it seems that Camille would rather work at a gentleman’s club called the Tantalus Club than be married to him.

In a desperate effort to stop the whispers and laughter behind his back, Fenton proposes a deal to Blackwood. For an outrageous amount of money, he asks Blackwood to convince Camille to marry him. This offer is very tempting to Blackwood because he has a secret that follows him day and night. So, he takes it. But when he finally meets Camille Pryce, he soon realizes that there is more to the woman than just the fact that she is a runaway bride...

I have to say how much I enjoyed this story. There was never a dull moment and Enoch does a fantastic job with the pacing and chapter endings. I kept allowing myself to read one more chapter because I was so enthralled by it.

Another thing I loved about this book is the fact that the character’s personalities really shine through. Quinn and Kleypas are known for their witty dialogues, but I think Enoch should be added to that list as well. I loved the interactions between Keating and Camille. They were sweet, funny, and sometimes wickedly sinful.

Keating for me was the major reason why I loved this book. Right from the start, he was an honorable man. Though he may have reasons to be mysterious, he was always upfront with Camille. He tells her his intentions and the reason why he wants to be her friend and I think this made him more likeable as a character. Though Camille and Keating start off as friends, it is obvious that they each wish to be something more.

I am very excited about the next book in the series, RULES TO CATCH A DEVILISH DUKE because I loved Adam’s part in this story and Sophia White seems like a very fun woman. I can’t wait to get my hands on this book!

I’m so pleased to have found a new author I can turn to for historical romance. Though this may be my first Enoch read, I can assure you it will certainly not be my last!

Taming an Impossible Rogue is laugh out loud funny and was a five star read up until the very end when the book just well, ends. I think there needed to be an extra 10 or 15 pages in there or an epilogue...something!

I did this as a BR with Ally and boy did we have fun. There are countless one line zingers and hilarious situations in this book. We had a three chapter a night limit on the BR and we both had trouble sticking to it because this book was so funny it was hard to put down.

This is book 2 in the Scandalous Brides series. As long as you understand that this series focuses on women that work in an exclusive gentlemen's club run by women (not a brothel, but a club like White's), then you can read this novel as a standalone. Camille is an earl's daughter who has worked for the club for the past year after running away from her arranged marriage to a marquess the year before, on the way to the altar no less. Keating is the rogue cousin of the jilted man. He is bribed by his cousin the marquess to go into the club ( the marquess has been banned as a member) and retrieve Camille so that she will marry him and stop everyone from laughing him. Keating agrees because he needs the money, but as the story progresses, he finds he wants Camille all to himself and Camille finds that she wants more than a prideful husband who only cares about himself.

Both Camille and Keating have scars from decisions in the past. Camille jilted a wealthy man and lost all status in society. She is reminded of that daily at the club where men come to gawk at her and make unsavory offers. Keating is a rake and rogue of the highest order and used to sleep with any gorgeous female who showed interest, married or not. This led to him killing an angry husband in self defense, being nicknamed bloody Blackwood, and being self exiled in the country for the past six years. Both characters find a kinship and a friendship that grows deeper with each interaction.

Luckily, both Main characters have very witty friends who prevent them from being martyrs and ensure the happily every after. The dialogue in this novel is some of the best banter I've ever read. It is witty between the lovers as well as the friends and I had so many moments where I would burst into surprised laughter, stop, reread the passage and laugh again. The Duke of Greaves and the illegitimate daughter of the Duke of Henessey, Sophia White, both played a major role here and I can't wait to read their book, which is the next one of the series! Yay!

This book is a very fun, enjoyable read that I would highly recommend. I hated that the ending was so abrupt, but if you know that going in, perhaps it won't bother you so much. It's still worth the read for the dialogue alone. Both Keating and Camille (and the Duke of Greaves) wield their words beautifully and it makes for a delightful, highly amusing, and overall romantic romp.

Treptat, cei doi devin prieteni.

This is the second book of the Scandalous Brides series. This is fine to be read as a standalone. The characters from the previous book are in it briefly, but nothing you would need to know the background story.

Camille is our heroine and I really enjoyed her. She' just so likable. She was funny, sweet, just a tad sassy but not overwhelming. She was raised in a wealthy home and has been betrothed pretty much since birth. Waiting her whole life, her fiance never even bothers to say hi to her, let alone write a letter, or send a gift. Camille flees the ceremony. Completely alone, with every back turned against her, she finds friends and protection at the Tantalus Club. (The Tantalus Club was created by and is run by the previous book's heroine.)

Keating Blackwood is the hero and boy does he have a reputation. “Bloody Blackwood tore through London 6 years ago, drinking, wenching, seducing, taking, gambling, hurting until a horrible scandal occurs, leaving someone dead and Keating ostracized. He's returned to London a changed man and with some things to take care of. His cousin, Camille's former betrothed, has tasked him with returning his fiance to him.

I really enjoyed this story. Keating is oh so sweet. More of a beta hero. I loved his honesty with Camille from the get go. I was worried about the direction this story would go in once I got into the plot but he was such a better hero that I thought he would be. It's a story about really just getting to know someone and falling in love. I thought it was rather funny too. Not super slap stick like Tessa Dare, but just some witty one liners and some silliness.

I think you would like this book if you like
a nice slow burn romance of two people getting to know each other
a book on the lighter, funny side
you want sex scenes, but nothing drawn out or overly explicit

I give this book 4 stars for two reasons. First is it was on the lower side for feels for me, but I am sure they will be there for others. It was a really really pleasant read for me. The last thing thing is something I didn't like towards the ending, more of a...really this and this has happened in your life and now you're going to choose this? Didn't you learn anything the first time?? Haha. Nothing super big, but it did bother me quite a bit.

This has changed my perspective of Suzanne Enoch. I haven't loved anything I've tried by her until this book. I am more optimistic she will have something I just adore, one of these books.

Finally finished this book! Omg, it felt like forever!

This wasn't the rating I thought I would be giving this book based on all those positive reviews. Really, there are only positive reviews! Maybe one or two readers gave it less than 3 stars. So why didn't I like it?
It just didn't work out for me. I got bored with the story, there's an overuse of the word CHIT! Omg, the hero calls every female a chit! It was so annoying!
I'm giving it 2 stars because I liked the banter between the MC, they're both pretty funny. I also like the supporting characters (Adam and Sophia) which I believe are the MC of the next book is the series but while they acted pretty rational in this book, I know they'll be very stupid in their book so I don't know if I'll give it chance. The ending was pretty good too but it didn't make up for the rest of the book enough for me to give it a higher rating :/

But, I'm definitely in the minority here so it might work out for you :)

This suddenly became a DNF. I really enjoy Enoch's writing, but this one felt like a historical Facebook novel. The characters are well written, but they lack direction in their lives in general. The secondary characters are very supportive, but again, I was unsure of their underlying motives--which may well be a device for the next book in the series, but since I didn't finish it, I don't know. The part that got me that made this a DNF was that the main character was late to work! For a woman to secure employment during this time, along with room and board is very rare. Then she jeopardizes it all for a man! I couldn't decide if the characters were enlightened or just stupid. By this point, I was so disappointed in the story that I just quit reading it. I may pick it up at a later date, and I will definitely read another novel by Enoch. However, the pace and character motivation in this story just didn't make me believe in true love about half way though.

This one was much better than the first. I had an inkling about one part of it and I was right, but I didn't think it would go that far. It was great! I didn't like how she was treated, but I do understand. At that time in history, reputation meant everything. I don't have to agree with it, but that's how things were. I especially love how the characters grew. It was wonderful. I giggled a few times and fist pumped a few times. Signs of a great book!

I thoroughly enjoyed this book from the witty repartee to the unexpected solving of the dilemma of how the author would get the couple together in the end.

I liked how much Keating went out of his way to save Camille from feeling uncomfortable whenever he talked her into venturing off the ground of the club where she works and lives. Many times it was at his own expense and did nothing to improve his already horrible reputation.

I also liked how Camille was willing to marry a man who clearly had no regard for her feelings or even for her as a person when she wanted to do the exact opposite just so Keating could have a chance to see his son.

But my favorite part was how the author had the couple come together at the end of the book. I fully expected the intended groom to have been killed off or to "come to his senses" and allow Camille out of the marriage contract but neither of those things happened which is why I enjoyed the ending so much.

I've been a fan of Suzanne Enoch for years and this book only makes me a bigger fan. I can't wait to read the remainder of the books in the series.

A Must Read!!!!!!!! ❤️

Awwwww I LOVED this book!!!!!!! So full of wit, humour, tension, the meaning of sacrificing and true love!!!!!!!!
To see beyond Society's exploits within the strict rules that governed the Victorian era especially with the nobility!! Sooooo mad at her parents so uncaring & too disown based off of propriety structure their 'beloved' eldest daughter all because she has a spine and stood up against her parents and society's arranged marriage!!!!

Hate the scheming Elenor and the cold fish for the annoying pompous of a jilted groom, but without him needing his cousins help our awesome heroine/hero would never of met!! All the enjoyable witty dialogue and developing the meaning of sacrifice and love would never of come to happen!!

ABSOLUTELY LOVED KEATING AND CAMILLA!!!!! Wooooo hooooo for STRONG characters!!!!! Loved that they were flawed, but they both had hearts of gold trying to do what's right, atone for past sins and find TRUE LOVE not tolerable acceptance with friends/family/relationships!!!!!!!

HIGHLY RECOMMEND!!!!! Similar to Jane Austen and Georgette Heyer!!!!!!!!! Amazing :)

If you're in the mood for something brainy, this is not the book to pick up. But, if you're looking to sail away for a bit into a land of outlandish rogues and slightly fallen women, then dig in. This was a fun, quick read that I found myself not being able to put down. If this book were a food for me, it would be a chocolate truffle--I would know that it was a little bit naughty, but also rather delicious.

I liked this one slightly better than the first in the series, but it was still a bit hard to stomach. The H and h are so resigned to their respective fates and it didn't exactly lend a warm and fuzzy feeling to their romance.

4.5 stars This was an absolutely fun read! Keaton Blackwood had a reputation for inebriation, women and brawling and one time six years ago all doing all three at once, got him kicked out of society. Or at least he shuffled himself off to the country in penance. Therefore he is surprised when his cousin comes to make him an offer he can't refuse. Get the cousins bride back, whom had ran away a year ago and a sum of money would be his. Piece of cake!

Camille Pryce became betrothed to her fiancé when she was three days old, her future hubby was 6 years old...ahh, young love. But the hubby grew up into a vain, selfish; priggish...need I go on? Stephen felt he didn't have to try with his fiancée after all; she was in the bag you might say. But young Camille dreamed of the sonnets, walks and flowers that her fiancé would someday send to her. Yep she kept thinking that right up to the time she was about to walk down the aisle and saw her future husband check his watch. She just couldn't do it and she ran away. She would just let her parents know it just wasn't going to work out and they would pick someone else for her. Piece of cake!

Only for Camille the fallout from her actions were horrendous. Her parents turned her out and her friends abandoned her. Eventually she ends up being a breakfast hostess at the Tantalus Club and for the last year that is where she holed up. But in steps "Bloody" Blackwood to talk to her! He reportedly killed the husband of a lady that he was sleeping with. When Camille confronts him about it, he doesn't deny it. Camille though for her part sees something different in those caramel colored eyes of his and takes a chance on a new friend. Keaton for his part is determined to be honest and tells Camille of the reason he is there for her. At first she is mad, but when she finds out the reasons behind his actions, she tries her best to come to terms with the fact that she may go through with the marriage after all.

Now if she can just keep Keaton out of her heart and her lips off of his, she may earn her space in society again. Keaton for his part, feels guilt, because he knows that there isn't a paintbrush big enough to color over his cousins flaws. Now if he can just keep his hands and lips off of Camille. But with a big, blond cupid named Adam these two kids may just have a chance at true love.

There were so many, great comical moments in this book for me. Here are a couple: The scene is Stephen is coming to see Keaton about the offer and Keaton has overindulged a lot the night before and he has got him up out of bed, "Keating dug up a shirt and trousers, but ignored his boots. He did pick up the pressed cravat and knot it tightly around his forehead. If he was lucky, it might hold his brain inside his skull."

Then a little later they are having tea and Keaton believes that a lot of sugar in his tea helps his hangover. Stephen says, "Why bother with the tea? Keaton says, " I thought you didn't want any tea. I don't I was just making a point about how you use too much sugar." Keaton replies, "Yes I noticed that. I was positively wounded by the jab."

I giggled at times through the whole book at passages like that. It was also poignant as Camille and Keaton struggle to do the right thing for even for the wrong reasons. If I had one complaint it was that the ending was too darn short. If ever a book needed an epilogue this was one. The ending just wasn't long enough. I can't wait for Adam and Sophia's book.

I wish I could give this book more than 5 stars! I just loved it!

While I thought the first book in the series was good, but not great, Taming an Impossible Rogue (Scandalous Brides #2) was fantastic!

Camille Pryce was thrown into a life of scandal when she fled the alter from an arranged marriage with an arrogant and cold fiance she'd never spoken with. Camille found her way to the Tantalus Club for employment after her parents kicked her out and her friends all turned their backs on her. The Tantalus club became her home and her family and protected her by not allowing membership to her ex fiance, the Marquis of Fenton.

Sick of being laughed at, Fenton hired his rogue of a cousin "Bloody Blackwood" to secure his betrothed and bring her begging for forgiveness back to the alter. Keating Blackwood had been hiding in the country, far far away from the London ton which ridiculed and loathed him. After a mistake he made as a young man six years ago caused him to kill the husband of his lover in self defense, he ran away to the country where he drank and brawled and sent every penny he earned to the woman whose husband he had killed and his illegitimate son. When Fenton offers Keating a huge sum of money in exchange for his help getting a nervous bride back to the alter, it's a deal too good to refuse despite his dislike for his pompous cousin.

After meeting Camille, Keating is pleasantly surprised by the strength, beauty, and defiance of the chit he thought would be timid and mild. At the same time, Camille makes an unlikely friend in the only person whose scandalous past has more tongues wagging than her own. This is where the book takes off to unexpected greatness ... instead of the lies that would be hanging over the readers head expecting the other shoe to drop, Keating and Camille have complete honesty right from the beginning.

**mild spoiler alert - just mild, but just skip the next paragraph to aovid it if you wish**

Keating discloses to Camille everything - that he is being paid, what the terms are, why he needs the money. The whole friendship is based on honesty and trust which is so much more enjoyable to read than waiting for Camille to find out he's being paid and hating him for it. It's a clever story set up and so much more enjoyable!

**mild spoiler alert over**

Their friendship and protection of each other is inspiring and romantic and wonderful. The most important thing to each of them is the others happiness. Along with the help of some unlikely allies - Sophia and Adam, the book is laugh out loud funny and enjoyable from start to finish. It reminds the reader what true friendship and true love is all about. Will they sacrifice everything so the other can have security and money? Or will they find that there are some things much more important than a little scandal? Things like happiness and love ...

This book is remarkable and romantic and delightfully well written.

Heroine: 5/5
Hero: 5/5
Romance: 5/5
Steaminess: 4/5

I really liked Camille and Keating (especially Keating), and I really liked the idea of not one rake, but TWO "fallen" characters falling for one another. It made for a rather interesting study in scandal, too, and how it affects men vs. women (I LOVED that the park was even MORE crowded the day after Keating scared off Camille's former "friends" by turning into a kissing bandit). Camille's a bit too timid for my taste at first, but she grows (and her family and fiancee DO treat her abominably). Keating is a fantastic character-- a bad boy who really HAS learned his lesson, but still finds it hard to be good. The chemistry AND the friendship between these two is lovely. But I have to admit that Adam, Duke of Greaves, MADE this book for me. (So VERY MUCH looking forward to his title.)

Desperate mutual sacrifice happens all the damn time in romance, and it gets AWFULLY tiresome. I was quite dismayed when I saw it happening to these two, whom I otherwise quite liked... "I will give her up to marry my loser cousin, because at least he can support her in the manner she deserves!" "I will marry his loser cousin, so the man I love can have a chance at the happiness he deserves!" Dumb. Dumb, dumb, dumb.

Never, though, have I seen an author with the guts to come out and SAY that her main characters are being melodramatically stupid. But here it is, folks, straight from the mouth of Adam: "Evidently, however, two martyrs aimed in the same direction could easily conquer and destroy any possible means to happiness before them." (LOVE.) Yes, yes, I fully understand the circumstances that led them both to want to sacrifice their futures for the other, and it's all quite sweet and noble, but seriously... to actually WRITE a character who grabs them by the necks and knocks their deserving heads together (as the reader SO WANTS TO DO by that point)? FABULOUS. That took a lot of authorial chutzpah, to my mind.

Camille and Keating are a great pair, but Adam, the staunch (and long-suffering) friend who saves these two loving idiots from each other? He saved the book, too. Delightful. As I said, cannot WAIT for his book.

With this book, I have finally discovered Enoch's secret to success: it's apoplexy. Stay with me on this one. In her last book "A Beginner's Guide to Rakes" I wrote that while she managed to avoid the word "apoplexy" (her overusage of the word is an on-going joke) the book had an odd contemporary feel and felt underdeveloped in parts. Now, with "Taming an Impossible Rogue," apoplexy is BACK! She uses it four times! This rigorous scientific study has me concluding that she uses this word all the time because it infuses writing power into the rest of book. And here I thought it was a mere writing tick!

All of this is to say the book is fantastic! Enoch brings her usual spark and humor into the mix. At a chilled meeting with Camille's family and her fiance Fenton, Keating notes that "Her bravery also made him want to rip off all her clothes and have his way with her, but that would cause her sisters to faint. Fenton likely wouldn't appreciate it either." Heh. Her characters are unique and funny and heartfelt. She took an old trope that I *hate* of the woman making a sacrifice for a man, and turned it into one of mutual sacrifice. I loved the redemption/forgiveness angle and the struggle to be better than their reputations.

I'm still not sure what I think of the Lady Eleanor/Michael scenario. I can see why it was included, but sometimes it felt a bit bulky.

I'm interested to see what happens with that creepy one-eyed guy at the Tantalus Club. I'm sure his appearance wasn't a one-off. As far as red herrings go, Enoch got me. I kept expecting him to reappear.

I can't wait for Greaves' book with Sophia next. And I'm still hopeful that Jenny (Genevieve) will get her own story as well.

I’m really enjoyed Suzanne Enoch and the Scandalous Brides series. I’m reading them a little out of order (I read the first, then the third, then the second) so some of the reoccurring characters are a little mixed up for me. I’m really liking Ms. Enoch’s use of humor in a historical that sometimes can get lost in other stories. She can not only provide the connection between her heroine and hero and sometimes the tears, but she makes me laugh on the journey with them. In book two in the series, Taming an Impossible Rogue, we meet Camille who had left her fiancé at the altar. They had had a long standing arranged engagement but he put no effort in getting to know her before the wedding. Faced with marrying a man she doesn’t know, Camille runs and ends up at the Tantalus Club, a gambling hall run exclusively by beautiful women. To try and entice Camille back to him, her fiancé enlists his cousin, Keating, to talk her in to returning to her old life. Torn between the new life she’s established for herself, the life she left behind, and maybe even a new choice in Keating Camille has to battle with herself and what will make her happy. Another great read and I’m excited to continue on with the series because there are so many fun characters at the Tantalus Club that we’ve been introduced to.

this was such a pleasant surprise! im not new to ms enoch's works and i really enjoy her books. but i had no idea id like this one so much. ive heard keating's name around book blogs snd such much like his character here. but personally ive had one too many rogues sometimes they all seem the same. BUT no keating was definitely something else. this story reminded me a bit of p&p with some concepts which made me like it more.

keating was a fiend, blackguard in true sense. but he isnt all that bad. and he regrets his and actions. society may not forget that but he is past that for him he knows who he is aside from fhe past. i know the scheme could be s turn off but he is so upfront and direct about it which i like。he has honor. camille or cammy is a runaway bride and in society's eyes that is not acceptable. also working in a gentleman's club. making her former husband laughed at. i enjoyed them a lot, they start out as friends and turn into more. the gradual chesmistry is so visible and you can feel the genuine affection. they are smart and caring ppl.

this book has so many things i enjoyed from witty dialogue, second characters, good pacing and drama. although noble idiocy annoys me sometimes here its so well played i cant help but root for them. if you like julia quinn this will be your kind of book. recommend this one. cant wait for the next book! ms enoch is a new fave.

this one started off great as i liked Keating for his humor and Camilla for running away from her wedding because she wanted more but it got boring. i finished it because i wanted to know what would happen, not because i loved the chemistry and romance between them as it felt non existent. i did however, like that Keating was honest with Camilla about his motives and him standing up for her. the ending left more to be desired. i wondered what happened to Eleanor, and what happened to the dowry, if Camilla's parents passed it to Keating or not. also, Fenton was a huge arse. i would have liked to see him taken down a notch by Camilla giving a speech that she would rather become a scandal than marry him.

Beautiful! Not sure why I didn't like it very much the first time I read it - this time it was pretty close to perfection.
