This is a collection of the more entertaining and intriguing quotes from The Times' Not Dead Yet column including media moments where 30-year olds are described as old and new phases of old age are created. Some of these are immensely amusing while others are downright worrying and really make you wonder about the state of society. I did find it got a little repetitive though and its probably not best read as a book but instead just dipped in and out of when you have a spare 5 minutes.
Highly amusing; and actually quite thought provoking. Journalists who (unthinkingly?) describe the age of 30 in derogatory 'ageist' terms really DO need re-educating. This book is a wonderful antidote to the present-day commercialisation of youth. A good book to keep in the guest bedroon(s).
So, what are we going to do with our 'twilight' years? Possessing the income to employ capable domestic help, and a gardener, will greatly facilitate the aspiration to be a fit and active 95 year old. That subtext doesn't get a mention in this book; but there again, that isn't the reason why this book was published.
