Possessive Monsters #2

Date with a Demon

Rate this book

A devilish grin. Six-pack abs. And horns!

When I enlist the help of Redrock Protective Services, I expect to meet with one of the company’s gargoyle brothers. Instead, I find myself face-to-face with a demon. By the heated glow in his eyes, guarding is the last thing he wants to do with my body.

Eamon is rippling with muscles, rides a motorcycle, and has extra, uh…parts…for my pleasure—all the things that have my body screaming YES! Too bad a demon lover is a distraction I can’t afford, not when I’m running from a centuries-old spirit intent on stealing my identity.

But every second I spend in his penthouse makes me fall a little more for him as I uncover his caring and gentle side, and soon, I’m in over my head.

Wrapped up in the arms of my very own possessive monster, I search for a permanent solution to my problem. Can I find it in time, or am I doomed to lose myself forever?

Date with a Demon is a standalone paranormal romance with a hunky, protective demon, mouthy witches, and evil wizards. Sweet & steamy. HEA guaranteed.

Eamon’s story

The story was interesting! A woman raised in order to be taken over but was a little confusing on the how and the twist still a little fuzzy on. I did continue because I wanted an update on Grayson and Sadie (sorry names probably wrong) but they were only mentioned a few times. The stars are mainly for nugget- cute that familiar is a bird!

Witches and Demons!

The following ratings are out of 5:
Romance: 🩵🖤❤️💜
Heat/Steam: 🔥🔥🔥
Story/Plot: 📕📗📙
World building: 🌏🌍🌎🌏
Character development: ☹️☺️😍😄
Narrator(s): 🎙🎙🎙🎙🎙
Narration type: Dual Narration

The heroine: Tansie (a.k.a. Dani) - she went to Redrock Protective services to hire a gargoyle bodyguard, though she was surprised that her guardian would be a demon. She has an adorable small parrot named Chicken Nugget, which she often kept in the hood of her hoodie. When the wall fell years ago, she found out that her mother was not who she said she was. Her mother was an old and powerful witch who stole the bodies of young women to keep her young and immortal. She had adopted Tansie and planned to use her as a vessel.

The Hero: Eamon - he was part owner of Redrock Protective services with the Redrock gargoyle brothers. Eamon was interested in Tansie as soon as he met the pretty human woman. She wanted a guard until she could find a way to get rid of her adoptive mother for good. Eamon lives in a warded penthouse apartment with the Redrock gargoyles. He takes Tansie’s job and sets her up in his wing of the penthouse. Eamon was trapped and forced to work for a wizard for centuries and since he was freed, he was lonely and sowed his wild oats as a way to connect with others, though he was still lonely and hasn’t been tempted by women for a while.

The Story: Tansie didn’t know she had her own magic, though Eamon could easily see she had plenty of magic coming out of her. She finds out when they meet another witch at the library, while she is looking up ways to foil her mothers' plans. She then starts to learn to use her magic so that she will be able to do the spell that counts when it is time to do so.

I liked the characters, though the story was a bit slow moving, and I did find my attention straying somewhat. There were some steamy intimate scenes. Like in many romance novels, the two main characters wanted something more than just hooking up, but each of them didn’t think the other wanted anything more, so there was a lot of angst about what their relationship really was. There were a lot of witchy scenes and magic in this one, which I liked.

This audiobook was done in dual points of view via dual narration and was narrated by Troy Duran and Michelle Sparks. Troy Duran is one of my favorite male narrators, he has a deep, sexy voice and is great at doing different voices for different characters. I search out books that he narrates specifically, so I was glad to see this series in his list. Michelle Sparks also is a good narrator, she sounds very natural and does a terrific job.

This was fine! Corny, but cute. The plot was actually semi-interesting. I liked Eamon and Tansy quite a bit. Not much else to say about it.

Tansy (h) discovers that her mother is actually a centuries-old spirit aiming to possess her body and seeks protection from Redrock Protective Services. She is partnered with Eamon (H), a devilishly charming demon. As they work together to find a solution and fight off Tansy's menacing mother, things heat up between the pair, but Tansy is wary of demons and their commitment issues. Tansy's determination and Eamon's protective nature making for an engaging dynamic - love their witty banter amidst the intense action and steamy scenes. Her familiar parrot, Chicken Nugget, is amazing. While it can be enjoyed as a standalone, reading the previous book, Rock Hard Gargoyle, in the Possessive Monsters series would enhance the experience.

Cute, but writing was a bit juvenile

So the plot of this book had some good potential. There was a woman who found out her “mother had raised her so she could eventually possess her. There was a demon who was willing to protect her. But I felt like the characters didn’t connect beyond their lust and their respect for the other’s goal, ie destroy her “mother. I was hoping for a little more to their personalities.

Spice: 4/5

Triggers: murder, possession, abduction, threat of SA, stalking (not by MC), emotional abuse, domestic abuse (off page)

Eamon is the best demon protector

This is a sweet story of discovery and protection. An innocent human witch Tansy discovers a nefarious plot to take her body and give it to a body snatching being Amira. So Tansy being smart reaches out for help to a supernatural agency. Eamon the demon takes her call and invites her to his office to discuss what type of protection plan she would need. At this point Tansy is living in her car and barely making it as she has to hide from Amira. This is where the joint journey between Eamon and Tansy begins. . . . Read On!

I would like a demon for Christmas pls.
Preferably one named Eamon.

Tansy's crusty dusty adopted mom tries to possess her body. Tansy says no and so she tries to take over the body of Tansy's ex (creeper much?) and micromanage every aspect of the poor woman's life.

Eamon is tasked with keeping her safe as her body guard (and boy does he BODY guard) anyway, they are perfect and Eamon is yummy.

not a good follow up

So basically Eamon is a shallow pos. I got through most of this book before I said it’s terrible and didn’t finish it.

Basically the take away here is our FMC only got help because she is gorgeous and built like a brick house. The demon offered to help simply bc he found her so gorgeous he couldn’t help himself. And that’s all we have.

There is a forced romantic interaction later on in the book with the FMC being exceptionally bold. It doesn’t even really match to her character or even the scene.

This book is chaotic and suffers from borderline personality disorder.

Tansy was adopted from an orphanage at a very young age. Her adoptive mother is very strict with her diet, friends and education. Tansy grew up very innocent and sheltered in an apartment building called the ivory tower. It wasn't until Tansy was in college that she learned the truth. Her mother chose her for her magical ability and beauty because she planned to steal Tansy's body. Her mother's first attempt was a failure and Tansy runs away. Her mother throws herself off the balcony and almost gets Tansy put in jail for murder. Tansy is trying to cope on her own when she meets Dean. He promises to take care of her and is just as demanding as her mother. Then he slips up and Tansy realizes that her mother took over Dean's body. Tansy knows she needs protection and help stopping her mother. So she contacts Redrock protective services and meets Eamon the Demon who works with the gargoyle brothers. Eamon is so caring and protective that Tansy is falling in love but Eamon swears that they are just friends with benefits.

Eamon is a demon who was captured for a long time by a wizard. Now he is free, he doesn't want to settle down. He works for the Redrock Protective Services. Then he gets a call for a new client. When he meets her she tells him that she has a witch after her that wants to steal her body. Tansy is so kind and interesting, Eamon decides to handle her case by himself. He provides a safe place for her and her pet familiar Chicken Nugget. He wants to do everything with her body, including protecting it. He is willing to help Tansy stop her mother and capture her for good.

Tansy, the female witch lead, has escaped from her “mother after realising that she’s been raised to be her mother’s next body and she desperately needs protection. Eamon, the male demon lead, is a partner in a security firm, with his gargoyle “brothers, a relationship built whilst they were all enslaved to an evil wizard. Eamon feels drawn to Tansy, taking her case even though she can’t pay for protection whilst she searches for the way to capture the soul/spirit of the being trying to possess her. They both expect their mutual attraction will die once they explore it but it only seems to increase as they work together and with others to find a solution before they are the ones possessed/enslaved

This story is dual POV, well written and edited, and an awesome, fast-paced, paranormal erotic romance - this author just keeps getting better! I adored Tansy’s focus and determination. I loved Eamon’s support of her and his willingness to accommodate her needs. I chuckled at his surprise at his own possessiveness towards her. I enjoyed the sweetness of the relationship growing between them, almost hidden behind the intensity of their erotic intimate relationship. I enjoyed the banter between all characters. I enjoyed the integration of the secondary characters and am really enjoying the world as it unfolds in these stories. I enjoyed the discovery of a family for Tansy and that not all interrelationships were easily established. The only disappointment was reaching the end of the story!

I received a complimentary copy from the author and this is my voluntary honest review.

💬 “My emotional support demon lives in a luxury penthouse and lets my parrot ride shotgun. 10/10.

Our heroine Tansie (a.k.a. Dani) just wanted a bodyguard to help her escape her literal soul-sucking mother, not a brooding demon daddy with a dark past and a smile that screams trouble in the best way. 😈💋

Turns out, mom dearest is a centuries-old witch who keeps herself young by stealing other women’s bodies (charming). Tansie was supposed to be the next vessel. Not today, satan.

🦜 Bonus: she brings her emotional support parrot Chicken Nugget everywhere—in the hood of her hoodie. ICONIC.

Enter Eamon, co-owner of Redrock Protective Services, a demon with a penthouse, trauma, and arms made for carrying you and your emotional baggage. 🔥 He takes one look at Tansie and knows he’s in deep. And I mean deep.

This book had:
🪄 Witchy magic + ancient curses
🖤 Damaged demon soft for one girl
🐦 A parrot named Chicken Nugget (deserves his own spin-off)
🔥 Steamy tension & forced proximity in a luxury penthouse
💔 Emotional angst + commitment phobia (he’s a demon, it’s what they do)
💬 Sassy banter that had me cackling
🌙 Slow burn with a seriously hot payoff

Was it a bit slower paced than book one? Yes.
Did I still eat it up like a cursed cupcake at a haunted bake sale? Also yes.

If you loved Rock Hard Gargoyle, you’ll adore this demon x witchy queen dynamic. Tansie’s magic journey is empowering, and Eamon’s possessive streak is chef’s kiss. And did I mention the bird??

(spicy slow-burn points deducted for pacing, but still a solidly fun, sexy ride)

I'm loving this series so much :D
Each book in the series has its own leading couple, but you will still see them throughout the other books (which I sooooo enjoy!).

Anyways, about the book...

Tansy is on the run from her Mother, a powerful entity who can hop bodies and has been grooming Tansy to be her next host.
She ends up at Redrock Protective Services, where she meets Eamon to discuss her protection, and truly, the rest is history, haha.
Eamon is a demon, and as we have read in the previous installment, an honorary gargoyle. People think demons are only in for the fun and not for any commitment, and many are, but as Eamon will find out, fate really has other plans for him.
With potential problems around every corner, and a race to get proficient enough to use magic needed to fix her problem permanently, you can bet Eamon will be sticking to Tansy like white on rice.

I love the characters, old and new. We don't go deep into the characters, but then again, that really isn't needed. There is no info dump, no needless info, just what we need to know. Perfect!

It was a fun and fast read, and while a lot happened, the pacing was smooth throughout.

As the following books have already been written, we already know who our next leading couple will be, and I can't wait to dive into that story!

If you enjoy a monstrous PNR with gargoyles, witches, demons, naga, evil (and not so evil) wizards, this one is for you!

Tansy was raised by an overprotective mother who it turns out is an ancient sorceress who lives by possessing others bodies. Fortunately, Tansy realizes something is very wrong when her “mother tries to take over her body when she is 23. She runs, but “mommy keeps finding her. She contacts Rockhard Protective Services for help. As long as her mother’s soul exists in someone, she will never be safe.

When Eamon first meets Tansy he is totally drawn to her and pledges to personally protect her. Even Tansy’s familiar Parrot, Chichen Nugget, likes him. Tansy is falling for him fast, but she knows demons have a reputation for being unable to commit to a relationship. She figures she can have some time with him while she learns to harness her magic and catch her mother, and still be okay when he cuts her loose. But things keep getting more and more complicated and out of control, both with their relationship and with trying to catch her mother. Turns out she has some powerful help! Will Eamon be enough to protect Tansy or will he lose her forever?

Very good book and you will love Nuggett!!.

I loved this book so much! Tansy and Eamon make a wonderful ~ and seriously HOTTT ~ couple. Tansy is smart and snarky and strong-willed, and in Eamon, she finds her perfect match, a protective demon with those same qualities. The formidable pair join forces with a wizard, demon, dragon and several witches to fight a powerful malevolent spirit who intends to take over Tansy’s body.

Everything about this book is perfect, from Tansy and Eamon getting to know one another to their getting to know each other’s anatomy. You could say this book has action as well as “action and every bit of it of it is delightful and delicious. I fell as hard for Eamon as Tansy did (stocking that cabinet with love tokens, swoon!) and I was so happy to have a peek into their future in the epilogue.

A word to the wise before reading: Have snacks on hand because you will get sucked into the story right away and even a growling tummy won’t stop you from reading. Also, get yourself a fan because this book brings the steam!

This book held my interest right from the start and didn’t let go till the very end. There is danger, action, betrayal, hate, orphanage, fake mother, evil spirit, humor, hot and steamy fun and love. Tansy is a college student that learns her mother is an evil spirit who adopted her because she is a witch and that wants to take over her body and use it and has been doing it for a long time and now she is on the run and ends up asking the Redrock protection Services for help against the evil spirit. Eamon is a Demon who was captured by a wizard but is now free and works for Redrock protection service and his new client is Tansy and he is very attracted to her and makes it know and Tansy knows all about Demons and the lack of commitment and decides to just have fun with him while she can all the while trying to work out how to catch her mother. Do they finally catch the evil spirit and will they have something more after its all over or does do they go there separate ways.

Swoon worthy

This book had me thinking the series "Lucifer" but with a whole lot of spice. I love a fun loving, devious guy that dominates in everything he strives to do... Except when it comes to commitment. Manifesting the L word for a demon is darn near impossible in this book, and it was so fun to watch him set his rules and continuously struggle to keep them at every turn. The fl was a ball of... Not quite sunshine but not quite fire. She strove to be independent but at the same time she couldn't quite pull off being totally b@d@$$ because of her "noobish" vibes, lol. And Nugget is by far my favorite familiar out of all of them. She was so stinking cute! I also really enjoyed how attentive the ml was to the fl practically right off the bat, and it showed even more near the end just how much he paid attention to her with the little gifts he leaves for not only her but her bird, aswell. I'm so glad this couple got their HEA.

Spicy warning: Some scenes have teeeentaaaacles 😏🥰

MFC Tansy who is on the run from a life she finally realizes is a sham seeks out the services of Redrock Protective for help with her dilemma.
After meeting MMC Eamon a very attractive and soon to be very protective demon at their agency the flames of attraction are fanned.
Date with a Demon soon reveals itself to be a Paranormal Romance full of magic, wizards, and witches, some of whom have some pretty evil agendas!
I enjoyed this awesome second entry in the Possessive Monsters series with its well written and captivating story that flows with ease and plenty of excellent world building. The twists and surprises keep coming in this edge of your seat whirlwind as they are revealed in an unfolding sequence of action-adventure.
I found a wonderfully engaging steamy read amongst these pages and can’t wait for more future stories!.

Tansy is in trouble with a capital T. She goes to the Redrock Protective Service hoping they will believe her story. There she meets Eamon (the demon in the foursome service). I liked how he is smitten with her but also tries to stay professional. He has his conflicts with having a relationship with anyone. He keeps remembering his past. I liked the way Tansy helps him see who he really is.
Tansy has to be strong. She is persistent and works around obstacles with determination.
Twists I did not see coming and of course secrets revealed.
I loved Nugget.
I really enjoyed reading how Eamon helps "recharge" Tansy. Once their fire is lite Eamon becomes very protective of her.
Action throughout, the flow was very good, you will want to know what happens next. Loved the epilogue and of course the perfect HEA.

Eamon is demon and, as such, is not supposed to have a heart or feel love. Yeah, let's leave him to believe that shall we? He is hired to protect Tansy who has something of an issue with the woman who raised her, woman well hag is more truthful. Especially since said mother-figure is planning on taking over Tansy's body and using it as her own. Not if Eamon has anything to do with it. For all demon's don't have soulmates you have to "aww" at a terrifying demon getting maudlin drunk and writing a love note. Tansy has been living with rules all her life. Only now do they make sense in that they weren't to keep her safe and healthy more look after the vessel the hag had designs on. Tansy is standing up for herself, she will not go quietly into the night and she will get temporary protection until the hag is gone. She plans to fight but maybe the temporary protection could be made permanent at the end of it all?

Very satisfying antagonist resolution

This book is a decent paranormal romcom with an HEA guaranteed. The FMC and MMC are both highly likeable, intelligent (despite Eamon's self deprecation), and have solid ropes of humor threading through their personalities. The side characters are a mix of past friends and new introductions, and all are quite satisfying - little quirky, lot of funny, all good characters. The universe building has been really well done.

My favorite part of this book is everything involving the antagonist. The backstories, the arc, the build up, but most of all the resolution. Bless Desmond for his part in making it a truly vengeful (non violent) resolution. It is well paced and wholly satisfactory.

Icing on the cake is the quality of the editing. In the entire book, not a single typo or odd sentence threw my reading. It's smooth and enjoyable the entire way through.
