Honestly thought I was onto a winner when I started - the first quarter was really good. Great premise, witty writing, Julian’s grief got to me from the very first page and Fishsticks, the demonic cat, was a riot.

However, everything fell apart from the moment the MC’s sexted. I didn’t really enjoy the intimate scenes and after all of Liam’s research, found it implausible that he did not know the difference between topping/bottoming. As for the mouthwash 🤦🏻‍♀️ I just couldn’t take their relationship seriously - it was unconvincing/lacked depth, the conflict contrived. Furthermore, I don’t like it when a widowed MC compares notes between his dead spouse/new love interest and dead spouse comes off less favourable/vanilla.

Finally, with the exception of Nora, the side characters were one dimensional, and the reactions from both mothers were hard to believe. Sadly, I struggled to finish this debut!

Not quite 5 stars, but generously rounded up because of the cat-pov prologue and epilogue 😂

Giving Fishsticks, the obese and bitchy cat, an own pov, was a stroke of genius- it was so cat-like, it made me grin, even though the prologue was sad.

It starts with the funeral of James, Julian/Jules’s husband, who got killed in an accident. The pain Julian experienced was so real, it really hurt reading about it.

Dead ex trope, I know. That’s one difficult thing to write (and read) about, but I loved how it was handled here. The grief is painful, and it takes Julian almost a year to start to live again, and in his pain, he starts texting his dead husband. Only that ofc, the number isn’t his any more, but Liam’s, a computer programmer who lives close by (I know- WHAT ARE THE CHANCES! But hey, it’s a romance novel, so I decided to accept small miracles 😂)

After a week, Liam texts back, assuming “Jules is a woman. Which is perfect for him, seeing as he’s single, and straight. Despite the somber beginning, the book is mostly light hearted and funny, with a lot of easy banter and a straight guy who’s remarkably quick in accepting that he’s falling for a man.

I love books where people text each other. Speaking from my own experience, it’s much easier to open up to strangers whom you never met (and likely never will), so I loved seeing how open and honest Jules and Liam were, despite Liam’s wrong assumption.

They meet eventually, they fall in love, you know how these things tend to go. There’s even a Hallmark worthy finale where people stand up and clap after the tiny bit of drama that’s bound to happen in books like these, and yes, I know it’s not entirely a 5 star read, but I smiled during most of the book, so there ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

That was cute! I enjoyed the tropes in this book. I was expecting the dead ex trope to be angsty and intense, but surprisingly, this book had so much love that it was only cute and swoony. The grief was there, and focused well, but not intense. I think it’s perfect for a slump or when you need something really easy to read. The most important thing is that the grief was portrayed so well I didn’t doubt the love Jules had for his past lover and for Liam. That’s just perfect.

I do have some minor issues with this book that I have to say in my review, but all of it weren’t a big deal to me at all. You might find some parts moved really fast, but it wasn’t really much of a bother to me and their dynamic was great that it made me focused only on them and nothing else. They get together with the sexting pretty fast (for me) and it was a little porny than I expected. For someone who doesn’t really like porny romance, I didn’t think the sex were excessive, it was perfect. I only wanted more romance beforehand. This book also comes with a lot of cute and romantic scenes put together, so the flow of the plot isn’t perfect. Above all of that, I still think it’s cute and I enjoyed it :))

I loove the bidding scene so much I think it’s my favourite! 💜💜

I really adore how Liam never minded of Jules past lover and was so understanding. It melted my heart and few of his lines made me swoon. It was awesome.

“Yes. I want to know everything about you, which means I want to know about James too. I want to know all about the person who will always hold a piece of your heart.

1.5 stars. This kept getting worse and worse. The prologue is a little much, but I thought, it's gonna be about recovering from grief, so maybe they want to hit hard at first. I was a little worried when I saw that the cat had a POV chapter, but when I saw it was only the first chapter and epilogue from that POV, I relaxed. Turns out, that was the least of my issues.

To those who noticed this blurb is very similar to The Last Text by Alice Winters, it IS quite reminiscent of that novella. It's a hundred pages longer, so we do get a bit more, but did we need it?

At 30%, I had no major issues, other than the first person present POVs are not hugely distinct from one another, which isn't great but hardly unusual. At this point, they have not met yet, but did just have their first (kind of unexpected) sexting session. Liam still thinks he's talking to a woman, which did make me a little nervous. The grief stuff is ... decent, but overall this has strong 'first book' vibes.

By 60%, they are together with no issue on Liam's side and Jules is hand-wringing a bit about if he is being disloyal or unfaithful to his dead husband. It is also confirmed that Jules writes gay romances, which ... * deep sigh * fine. I am getting a little annoyed with all the metatextual inside baseball commentary on gay romance while reading gay romance, especially when it's not even interesting. But whatever.

HOWEVER, when we get to around 75%, I'm now angry at this because this starts to feel like a slow descent into hell. Jules's mom a) hears Jules and Liam having sex, b) asks if now they were having sex Jules could get back to writing his gay romance books, c) finds out her son's books were available on audio and is excited to listen to them (STOP IT) and d) accidentally plays porn on Liam's phone moments after meeting him.

Let's talk about Liam for a second, shall we? He's a shell of a man, with a string of unsatisfying one night stands with women, a best friend he doesn't even like, a job he has no feelings about, and his mother lives far away. The only thing we know is that he watched his mom never get over losing his dad, and he doesn't want to get attached bc then possible pain of loss yada yada (sorry, but we've been here before a thousand times)

As noted, he falls into lust/love with Jules with almost no angst or thought really. He halfheartedly looks for a label since Jules asks if he's gay or bi or what, but none fit and he wonders why does he need a label anyway? Aka gfy by another non-name, bc we're not naming things. Which seems to be the way white (previously) straight guys go about this in some books. Why do they have to figure themselves out? If it feels good and people accept him (bc every potential conflict in this book is resolved in a few pages) why waste time thinking about it?

At 80%, and it has gotten slightly worse. Liam has supposedly listened to multiple explicit gay romance books and tried gay porn enough to know it doesn't do it for him. And yet! When Jules asks him if he wants to top or bottom, he doesn't know what those mean. (Again, STOP IT.)

Liam fucks up and Jules runs away/ceases communication at 90%.

Then, a ridiculous contortion of the storyline gets them back in the same room, and we get a happy ending, I guess. The cat weighs in with an epilogue to say he's happy with a new person, too. FIN.

I didn't love The Last Text, but it was better than this. This book started off mediocre and than just fell off a cliff. I maybe should've DNF'ed, but the best thing I can say is that the book read pretty quickly. Oh, and the moment where Jules found out Liam rinsed his ass with mouthwash bc he hoped Jules would rim him again and wanted to taste nice was ... sweetly batshit. That is my half star bump.

I guess I'm glad others liked this, but I did not.

I absolutely adored THE RIGHT WRONG NUMBER by Katie Warren. Katie's sarcastic humor shines through this text brilliantly and above all else, I was laughing hysterically throughout the entire book. New romances can be so stressful (real life ones, not books! Unless you're writing one, I guess?) and I love romance books that diffuse that tension with authentic humor. Warren does this a lot, sometimes moving into even brazen and raunchy territory, which really works for me. Would I awkwardly say it to someone? Yes? Then I laugh at it!

"I'm so happy you weren't a serial killer," I whisper back before pressing our lips together, putting them exactly back where they belong. p238

So the premise of this book is that Julian, or "Jules," lost his husband a year ago, unexpectedly. He is still devastated and not even his fierce roommate, Nora, and holy terror of a cat, Fish Sticks, whom he inherited from his late husband, can bring him out of his profound grief. He starts texting his husband's old phone and reaches...Liam, who has the number now. And they start a text relationship. Then texting friendship. Then sexting relationship? Then they decide to meet! Yay! And Jules can feel himself coming back to life. But not everything is as simple as it seems. So strap in, because this is one wild romantic ride!

There's a carnal wave in the air, an unspoken acknowledgment that this magnetic behavior is unique to just the two of us. Something about the way he's looking at me with unbridled desire tells me he didn't ever say anything like that to his husband, and it makes me giddy inside knowing I can fulfill an unexplored need for him. p154

One of the best features about THE RIGHT WRONG NUMBER is that Warren writes a few sections from the perspective of Fish Sticks, the cat. I think these are clever, because they give insight into these two characters' behavior in general, but particularly their grieving behaviors. We see Fish Sticks's expression of emotion for the lost husband move and change for the benefit of Jules's viewing and interpretation. Jules could see that if Fish Sticks could let down his guard, maybe he could too.

I think about my old human from time to time. I miss his smell and the way he scratched behind my ears. He has been gone for many of my lives, but I will never forget him. I'm still working on my new human, but with my mind melding powers, I will still have him trained to be the perfect companion. p240

Endearing, steamy, and touching, this is a brilliant and funny book. It was my first MM romance and I love how Katie designed the romance, which made the narrative exciting and surprising!

Overall, a very good debut novel from this new author.

Interestingly enough, while this involves the death of Julian's spouse, and he's still grieving in this, there was a lot of humor and light-heartedness as well.

I liked that this author was able to blend that heartache and pain and angst with humor and fluff and happiness as well.

Liam is on the other end of Julian's 'wrong number' and for a few weeks, before they meet, he thinks Julian is a woman because he goes by "Jules" and Jules can also be a woman's name, and Liam, as far as he knows, is straight.

Julian is trying to move on from his husband James' death. He hasn't been working at all the past year, and still barely gets up and out of the house. Getting him out of bed is a good day. He still hasn't even gotten rid of James' clothes yet.

But when his best friend, Nora, tells him to 'talk' to James as a way a starting to let go and move on, Julian decides to do it in the form of texting his dead husband's old phone number.

Turns out, they 'recycle' old phone numbers and give them out to new people when they're no longer in use.

Liam has James' new number, and at first Liam ignores the sad messages, but as he comes to see that it's not just an ex texting their ex, but someone texting a dead spouse, he realizes he should let them know that there's a person on the other end of the line.

And that starts their connection, their romance. As what happens in all romance books but never in real life haha, they get along seamlessly. Of course Julian thinks Liam is gay, and Liam thinks Julian 'Jules' is a woman, and I love how there was no stupid shenanigans where Liam found out Julian was a guy and then ran and just ghosted Julian.

He was upfront that he was straight and thought Julian had been a woman, and there's no big freak out or stupid contrived drama surrounding it.

Although, there is some contrived drama near the very end. Feels like something for a first time author to do, really.

So, as Liam comes to terms with the fact that he was Julian, the man, and that he can't get him out of his head, and wants to be with him, he takes it pretty well in stride. He's a little cautious and all, but for the most part it doesn't take him long to get past the man thing and be all in with Julian, and to be open with Julian too.

But Julian has an - understandable - fear of opening his heart again a year after it was broken when his husband died to another and getting broken if Liam hides him. But Liam reassures him and proves his fears unfounded.

Except, he has one casual friend, Oscar, who is obnoxious and is from Liam's work and he's that kind of friend that Liam doesn't even really like that much and doesn't understand why he's friends with him, he just...is. And once Liam finds out Jules is a man, he doesn't tell Oscar, who is has an attitude and is shown to be a little homophobic, so Liam keeps putting off telling him.

And of course, Oscar finds out near the end, when Julian is there with Nora, and it all blows up in Liam's face and it all felt contrived.

Of course he waits so long that the second Oscar finds out, Julian is right there to misinterpret it all, and misinterpret what the look on Liam's face means, etc etc.

Of course Liam should have told Oscar by then, but also Julian overreacts and refuses to see Liam when he tries to see him and talk to him and explain. Of course it then all gets neatly patched up within like 2 chapters so what was the point of it anyway.

All that ridiculousness gets a star off from me. It wasn't needed and it was just added in for some contrived, last minute melodrama. There actually was a great source to pull potential angst from, i.e. the dead husband thing! Like it was right there. Instead the drama came from Liam not coming out to this one guy, even though he'd already been out and about with Julian, holding his hand and everything, and he told his mom as easy as pie - although tbf on that one, idk if Liam told him that. I can't remember.

But still, as much as I get Julian and his fear making him overreact, why did over a week have to go by for him to just easily forgive Liam after taking way too long NOT forgiving him? Or not just letting Liam talk to him and explain?

Nora even tries to get Julian's head out of his ass and empathize with Liam, and he still doesn't reach out to Liam to let him explain.

Because as good as Liam is the whole book about the fact that he's into a guy, this is still all rather new and he has a pretty crappy friend who he knew wouldn't take it well, and he's allowed to breathing room and grace to get to the point where he's ready to tell him. As someone who went through that same thing, I feel like Julian, maybe after the initial event happens, could have been more understanding about that.

Also Oscar, who also overreacts when he finds out Jules is a guy, acts like a shithead but then does a complete 180, and it's all leads to a nice, super easy wrap up, when it just should have had Oscar stay a shithead. No one rarely, if ever, does a complete 180 like that so fast in real life. Unless there was huge misunderstanding, but there wasn't here. Oscar was hung up on the fact that Liam was with a guy. But then all the sudden he's not? Why? Why is a big deal in this one scene for dramatic effect but then okee dokey the next?

At least Liam was kinda just over that friend by then. That was one plus.

Anywho, all that melodrama at the end is why I'm giving this one star off. But the rest is fun and interesting and hilarious at times.

Overall, a strong debut novel. I think the author could just learn, the more she writes, to not give into that eleventh hour melodrama for drama's sake kind of thing. Then this would have been a wonderful 5 star read.

As it is, I can't wait for more from this author in the future, to see what she has in store for us. This was a strong starting off point. The romance, the humor, the characters, the cat, the sex for the most part (although that could have been steamer overall, imo) as well 😁 😘

Can't wait for more!

3.5 - I enjoyed the start of this but things went downhill with the GFY situation and the writing just felt kind of forced/unnatural as things went on. Not bad but it felt like I was hanging out for this to end and the sex scenes felt awkward/unrealistic. Would probably normally give this is a 3 but rounded up because it’s a debut and I felt the descriptions of grief were very emotive.

1.5 stars, generously rounded up, because the premise of this book is not bad. The execution however... yeah, no. This was all kinds of terrible writing, unrealistic behaviors, and flat, unbelievable, one-dimensional characters. I've read fanfics better than this.

Though I seem to be in the minority with my assessment.

These characters are supposed to be in their 30s, but behave like they're barely out of their teens. Also, everyone shouts, screams, yells, hollers - no one inside this book is apparently capable of having a regular tone of voice or speak at a normal volume.

And what kind of sane person uses MOUTHWASH to clean their butthole? Author, you do realize that many of those contain alcohol? And that wasn't even the worst of the sexy times.

Stiff, unengaging writing, being told of emotions instead of allowing the characters to show us, whiny MC #1, with a mother who doesn't sound like she's entirely sane, and a up until now very straight MC#2, who upon finding out that Jules is a man just goes with the flow and jumps straight into gay sex. Right.

Liam's friend Oscar is a flat cardboard character without any redeeming quality, and his boss is fucking sleazy. What kind of manager sends his employee to a charity auction with instructions to bid on a date, but not to worry, "if she's hot, maybe I'll date her". Can you say toxic workplace?

And while Nora may have some redeeming qualities, I find it a bit strange to tell your best friend, albeit in a roundabout way, to stop grieving his late husband. It's been a year. Give the man the time he needs. Be fucking supportive instead of a bitch about it.

Yeah, no. None of the behaviors exhibited by characters in this book made any kind of real sense, other than Julian grieving his late husband.

Not recommending this book. YMMV.

This was such a beautiful story.
It's a story about grief and letting someone in and learn how to make a space for that special someone without letting your loved ones go.
Great characters with a great story 🥲
That ending is just every bit of perfection.

3.5⭐️ rounded up.

Super cute read.
I loved the whole idea of Julian texting his dead husbands phone and meeting Liam that way. Their texts were so sweet... then hot.
Julian learning to move on with his life, while Liam was learning about his new sexual identity.
Surprisingly, there was not a lot of angst to this story, which was nice.

Not really a fan of illustrated covers, but after reading the blurb, I had to read it.

2.5 rounded to 3 for the beginning that I really enjoyed.

I really enjoyed this for about the first 1/4 of the story; it was sad, I welled up at the first chapter, sweet and had so much promise. I thought we’d get a good amount of banter between the MC’s, who are texting but have never met. Unfortunately they didn’t talk as much over text before they decide to meet. That was ok though, I thought they would become friends who still text and hang out while attraction builds between them. I was hoping for a nice, slow burn. Shortly after they met the first time though things started to unravel for me.

Julian, aka Jules, lost his husband a year prior in an accident. He’s been wallowing in grief the entire year, rarely getting out of bed. His friend, Nora, moves in with him to help him out and she decides on the one year anniversary of James death to force Jules out of bed, it’s time for him to get on with his life. Nora was supposed to be the supportive best friend while being the sassy female character but she turned out so sarcastic and downright mean a lot of the time. There’s a time and place for hard truths and she gave them but I felt like they weren’t always at the right moments. She came across as uncaring at times.

Liam is a straight man who is sick of his string of hook ups. He has this “best friend and coworker Oscar who he goes out with most nights. Oscar was in no way portrayed as a best friend, Liam couldn’t stand him. He was an obnoxious “bro character who didn’t even know Liam at all. Liam essentially had no friends. When he gets a new phone and number he starts receiving texts from someone who is missing their dead husband. He thinks this Jules person is a female, which makes sense. After a few texts that we see on page, and I guess a bunch we don’t, he thinks Jules is someone he can hopefully become serious with. This is where I wanted the back and forth, the getting to know one another over these texts. We’re told more than we’re shown though. Instead they jump into sexting after what seems like a very short while. It just all seemed rushed.

Jules and Liam decide to meet and right beforehand Jules texts a picture of himself to Liam. Of course Liam freaks out that Jules is actually Julian but he doesn’t blow him off, he meets him anyway, which was a really sweet thing to do. Liam isn’t a jerk and I liked that about him. They decide they can be friends though because they make each other laugh. For Jules this is the first connection he’s had with anyone since losing his husband.

Liam is confused because he sexted with Jules before he knew he was a man. Jules made him feel things before he knew what he looked like so all of a sudden he’s attracted to a man. This was a big leap that didn’t fly for me. If there was more build up between the characters before they jump into bed I’d have believed Liam’s attraction more. They meet and soon after have sex. It was just too fast. This is where the story really turned for me. It just wasn’t executed the way I was hoping.

Of course there’s a big misunderstanding, which is another thing I hated. Nora is even more rude to Jules, she was the worst best friend. Both Jules and Liam’s moms are portrayed as over the top ditzy mothers. Oscar is an even bigger jerk, but actually he isn’t, Liam just is over the top. And there’s more sex where Liam is the perfect bottom after never being attracted to a man before. And he isn’t gay or bisexual or pansexual or anything. Which was fine because there’s no need for labels but this was the second book in a row I’ve read that is essentially “gay for you. It just wasn’t believable in many ways.

What started out as a really great read ended in disappointment. Overall this is a 2 star but I enjoyed the beginning and there was so much promise. It just wasn’t executed the way I was hoping.

This is a super cute and funny book about healing and learning to love again, with a side of fishsticks!!!!!

Jules has lost his husband, he passed away and he’s been struggling for over a year to get over him and grieve. His best friend suggests he talk to his dead husband as a way to express how he was feeling, so he starts to text his husbands old phone number. Without realising it, old numbers get recycled and given out to new people, he sent the phone texts, but he wasn’t prepared to get a reply back.

Liam was sick of all the past hook ups messaging him, he was over it!! So he changed his number, but when he starts to get random sad texts from a number he didn’t recognise he knew that he had to let them know they had the wrong number.

This was a very sweet read, we get to see a Jules a man overcome my grief, learn to accept another love in his life, and we see Liam try to work out his attraction to Jules when he thought he was straight. It was a funny read full of banter and eggplant jokes!! An evil cat that hated everyone, and I loved his diary entries!!!

Still lost in his grief a year after his husband’s tragic passing, Julian attempts to get some closure by texting his husband’s phone number, not realizing the number has been reassigned and his texts are now going to a complete stranger.

Enter Liam, who after several text messages strikes up a conversation with the mysterious “Jules, who he ends up having an instant and genuine connection with. & after several weeks of texting, the pair finally meet and Jules is nothing like Liam expected, and his whole world gets flipped on its axis.

The Right Wrong Number is a wonderfully written story about finding love after loss, but also offers so many laugh out loud moments and has plenty of steam! I think my only complaint would be the pacing of Jules and Liam’s relationship Things went from 0 to 100 and didn’t quite feel realistic, but was still really cute.

So I’m amazed at how much I ended up loving this book. A rom-com by a debut author I figured I’d enjoy it but it maybe wouldn’t stand out. However, this book was awesome! I loved how it still covered the tough topic of learning to find love after loss but in a really low-angst way.

I absolutely loved the premise of this book. Their meet-cute was the coolest thing. Jules was trying to get some closure a year after his husband passed and started texting his husband’s phone number. Liam happened to have that number now and their relationship started from there. It was super cute and I loved watching them start to fall for each other.

One thing I can’t get over is the two chapters that were written from the cat Fishsticks POV. This cat was crazy but I think I was the most emotional reading this book during his two chapters. I have no idea how this author was able to capture what I imagine the voice of a cat sounds like as well as get the emotional depth needed for those chapters. It was brilliant.

Overall, if you are looking for a low-angst read that’s not too easy with absolutely incredible sexy times I 100% recommend this book! I’ll absolutely be on the look out for future books from this author, especially since there is a planned co-write with Dianna Roman!

So many great heartwarming moments, sad times, a few epic misunderstandings, a straight-talking BFF and a sweet pushy mom. Lots of feels from page one, working through grief and taking steps to live life again. We are not ready to move on as this book begins, we are in the later stages of grief, not quite at acceptance yet. Oooph, we are barely functioning, making our slow way towards moving on, but there is pining and reminiscing and the heart breaking task of cleaning out clothing.

We have lots of mixed feelings, push-pull, hot-cold, scared to move forward, scared NOT to move forward, concerned family, we-know-what’s-best-for-you pestering. The characters dragged me all over the place and I felt so many different things as they did. At one point I think-scream, give the guy a f-ing break! Then not too long afterwards, I’m smiling at a breakthrough.

Somehow this book packed a lot in and found balance amongst all of the grief, loss, acceptance, guilt, second-guessing, new relationship, deep feelings and a second chance at a happy ever after. That’s saying something as this book was only 244 pages and a mistaken identity storyline that lasted for 35% of the book.

Overall a good read, light angst, hurt, comfort, bi-awakening, contemporary, grief, mistaken identity, m/m, HEA, dual POV.

A really cute premise - loved the idea of someone texting their lost husband’s number when dealing with the grief of loss. I couldn’t wait to read it! I came away disappointed because it just wasn’t executed as well as I was hoping. I didn’t love the characters or feel their attraction and emotional connection. And the cat chapters felt like a bit of a forced humor.

Many loved this book. I just didn’t.

Giving this 4 stars in spite of the fact that Jules was obsessed with only washing HALF of his ass and the fact that we got not one, but two chapters from the cat's POV.

Seriously though, this was remarkably sweet and lighthearted for a book that deals with the death of one MC's husband and his moving on journey thereafter.

Every once in a while, a debut author knocks it out of the park with their very first work, and Katie Warren has done just that with The Right Wrong Number.

Jules and Liam meet in the most unexpected way, when Julian texts his deceased husbands phone number as a way to move past the grief he feels. Unexpectedly, a stranger from across town responds and the pair strike up a pseudo friendship.

Through miscommunication and hilarious meetings (hello, veggie jokes), the two become close as they learn to lean into the feelings growing between them.

With an awesome supporting cast of characters including the kinda loose-cannon best friend Nora and Fishsticks the simply misunderstood cat, The Right Wrong Number will have you teetering between laughter and tears while celebrating love—both in finding it again and holding on to the memories of those lost.

An exceptional debut from Katie Warren, I can’t wait to see what she creates next.

Really enjoyed this but the end kinda ruined it for me. I'm not a fan of relationship drama so late in a book, it honestly annoys me so much and it puts me in a bad mood.

That said, I really liked the main characters and the way their relationship developed. I did not like Oscar at all, and I went back and forth on my opinion of Nora.

I liked the realistic depiction of Fishsticks the cat though, I had a cat exactly like that when I was younger and they were absolutely psycho towards everyone except my grandad 😂

I honestly don’t know how to start this review. I normally go with the generic, “it was cute or “what a sweet story. This book captured me completely. I went from being in the worst book slump, taking a week and a half to read a book, to reading this in 2 days.

This book’s story is unlike anything I’ve read before. I’ve read plenty of m/m and sapphic romances. This one was just it’s own kind, in an amazing way. This story held so much emotion in so many different ways. The heartbreak of loss, and trying to overcome the guilt of being able to move on. The fun and joys of a new relationship. The confusion of possibly not being all that you thought you were. Add in a hilarious and quirky roommate that is not afraid to get you out of your pity party, and a cat with his own trials and tribulations. You have this masterpiece called The Right Wrong Number. I urge you all to read this when it releases, it’s incredible.

I feel like I’ve read this before.
And it took me a minute to figure it out.

This is so crazy similar to The Last Text by Alice Winters.

I had a great time reading The Right Wrong Number! The cat's POV in the beginning and at the end of the book was a fun addition.

Even though one of the MCs is dealing with grief after his husband's death, the story is mostly lighthearted. Julian and Liam have the best "how did you two meet" story: when Julian texts his late husband James, he's surprised to get a reply from Liam who recently changed his phone number and got James'. However, Liam thinks he's exchanging texts with a woman because of Julian's nickname (Jules) and the fact that Jules talked about losing his husband. The two of them start exchanging texts more regularly and become friends. When they finally meet, Liam is shocked to find out that Jules is a man, but he still wants to be his friend... and maybe more.

I really enjoyed the story because of how Julian's grief was portrayed, as well as the process of welcoming a new significant other in his life without erasing James memory. I also liked how easy-going Liam was about his "GFY awakening", how his and Julian's friendship grew into more, and just how much of a sweetheart Liam was.

"Yes, I want to know everything about you, which means I want to know about James too. I want to know all about the person who will always hold a piece of your heart."

“Fuck yes, you're mine. You’re all fucking mine.

What a delightful debut novel! The Right Wrong Number, by Katie Warren, was equal parts adorable and sexy. I was laughing by the first chapter, which I knew was a good sign. 🙌🏻🙌🏻

Highlights:
🩵ɾǷɱ
🩵sexual awakening
🩵is it fate?
🩵ٱ𲹳
🩵excellent humor
🩵a grumpy, diabetic cat

Liam and Jules were adorable. I love how their love story started, and how there is an instant spark between them, despite Liam being “straight and Jules recovering from the loss of his spouse a year prior. These two had me laughing and swooning throughout the book, which is exactly what I crave from a romcom.

One of the best parts of the book was the dialogue and interactions with Fishsticks, the grumpy, diabetic cat. His chapters were freaking hilarious—couldn’t get enough!! Need more Fishsticks!!👏🏻👏🏻

Favorite quote:
“The way he makes me feel is something I can’t wrap my head around, but I do know that I don’t want the feeling to go away. And so fucking what if it’s a man? If someone can make you feel like this, it doesn’t matter. It should never matter. Feeling like this could never be wrong. 🥹

CW: loss of a spouse

Overall, loved this book! Cannot believe it’s a debut novel, as the writing and storyline were great!!

Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

I loveddddd it!

My second MM romance was an ARC and OH GOSH did it not disappoint.

I lovvvve Liam and Jules. Their relationship is realistic and full of hope. Also, I love Fishsticks 🤓💛

Brief synopsis :

Jules lost his husband a year ago and is still very much grieving.

Liam is a bachelor who just mindlessly hooks up with women, but kinda longs for something more.

They will start texting by a twist of fate.

I won’t say anything more so you can find out by yourself 🫶🏻

Just know that it’s quite smutty, and 18+ for this reason.

A big thank you to the author for providing this ARC to me in exchange for an honest review.

The concept here is quite interesting, and the story followed and hit a lot of the beats that I believe it needed to.

I think speaking from the perspective of someone in the LGBTQ+ community, I have a different set of experiences to pull from when reading work like this. It comes across like an M/M romance written by a cis-het female author for a cis-het female audience. And this appears to be the case when looking at the ratings and reviews it's been given.

Now, I don't know how Katie identifies and am in no way trying to gatekeep queer romance here (the more the merrier, I say), but I think this could have done with a little more research and empathy with regards to things like the queer experience and personal sexual orientation classification.

That being said, the spice was well written and spaced throughout the book appropriately, with an interesting story that wrapped up succinctly in the end
