Carnivals, Cannibals, and Clowns. Oh My!

Wanna go for a ride?

Meet Jigglyspot, a five-foot tall half human half warlock carnival clown who spends his free time moonlighting as a drug dealing pimp and lackey for demonic entities who prey on the weak and vulnerable, casting their dark shadow across humanity through manipulation, and fear.

Jigglyspot was selected to serve as the event coordinator for 2019’s Summer Solstice Celebration at the prestigious Cannibal Café. A celebration that brings together both demon and human alike. But with less than two weeks before the celebration, Jigglyspot’s got so much to do and little time to do it. And the feds are hot on his tail. Between securing new recruits for demonic possession, choosing fresh bodies to slice and dice for dinner, and the fact that his girlfriend, Kera, is eating up most of his time, Jiggly’s at his wit’s end.

Hopefully, those demons appreciate all his sacrifices. Hopefully, but unlikely. Those demons can be hell to deal with. Jigglyspot knows; he’s been dealing with them for decades.

Will he rise above, or will tragedy and mayhem lead to dire discoveries poisoned with manipulation and betrayal that will ultimately destroy all Jigglyspot holds dear?

Discover Jigglyspot and his cast of clowns, killers, demons, and wretched fiends, in a novel like you’ve never experienced. Horror, mayhem, thrills, chills, fantasy, and spoils are waiting for your reading eyes with an escape into the underworld of mind control and human slavery.

Warning: This book contains scenes with profound psychological suffering, and graphically violent acts, behaviors, thoughts, deeds, and ridicule. No one has been spared, and no label is safe. Although we are proud to report, no animals were harmed during the writing of this novel, so that’s a good thing. Everyone else is fair game. After all, if you were a demon, what would you think of humanity?

Fans of Grady Hendrix, Catriona Ward, Clive Barker, and Stephen King will be captivated by this edge of your seat, eye-popping, wtf horror novel that is certain to be your next addictive read. As they say, you don’t just read Jigglyspot You DEVOUR Jigglyspot!

I accepted a paperback copy of this book from the author in consideration of a review. All opinions are my own and are subjective to myself as a reader.

NON SPOILER VIDEO REVIEW HERE:

If you asked me to use one quote from this book to sum it up, it would be this one:
"Shit happens and shit goes wrong when you're dealing with the cosmic forces of darkness."

This is my first time reading anything written by P.D. Alleva, but it will NOT be my last. This book was addicting from the very first chapter. The writing, the storyline of each of its key characters and, I feel a bit bad saying it, its intensely graphic content. It was depraved, disgusting, violent, suspenseful, exhilarating, mysterious, sexual in nature and FREAKING AMAZING.

Let me start this off by saying this book is for mature readers who are hardcore horror lovers. This book doesn't deserve to get pigeon-holed only into the horror genre, it's a blend of science fiction, horror, thriller and fantasy. (The author thoughtfully provides a list of content warnings in the description of the book and on his website.)

Jigglyspot is one of our main characters, a warlock who has been tasked with coordinating the 2019 Summer Solstice Celebration. Now, that sounds like fun, right? Did I forget to mention the event's location is the Cannibal Cafe? And attended by both demons and humans - some willing, some very unwilling...

We have a varied cast of characters that readers will follow throughout the entirety of the novel. In the beginning, only a couple of them are connected, but as things develop, they all converge into one epic plotline that is filled with tragedy, madness, mayhem, betrayal - I'm talking end of the world type stuff. I was riveted. While there are many characters to keep track of, Alleva writes them all so well, giving each their own unique storyline, so that it was easy to remember who was who.

I was sucked into this book immediately. It's one of those psychological thrillers that keeps the fire stoked in you to keep going, to see how each character will deal with their situation. I enjoyed the multiple storylines that were all threads that wove together into a much larger picture - and if this is the writing style of Alleva, I'm sold. In fact, I already have GOLLEM on my shelf to read soon - I'm stoked because at the end of this book, there was a note saying if readers wanted to know more about a certain character, to read it.

The plot is my top rated element - which considering that I'm a character driven reader - says something. (Though characters were right up under plot in that ranking!) I thought I knew the plot in the beginning, but it continued to evolve as our characters endeavored through their daily lives. I would never in a million years have guessed where we ended up, but it was one wild ride that I loved. One might say it was out of this world. (IYKYK)

Some themes that were explored in this book are serial killers, demons, the supernatural, psychological fear, gore, apocalypse and -my favorite in this one - redemption.

Again, I would only recommend this one for mature readers due to its graphic and violent nature. It goes full send into the hardcore and macabre. Fans of Clive Barker - this one is right up your alley!

The quotes in this review were taken from an ARC and are subject to change upon publication.

Jigglyspot and the Zero Intellect by P.D. Alleva is a horror novel about carnivals, and cannibals, and clowns. Okay, the premise sounds funny....it is not.

First, let me thank the author, for providing me with a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review. All opinions are my own.

My Synopsis: (No major reveals, but if concerned, skip to My Opinions)
Jigglyspot is half-human and half-warlock, and only five-feet tall. He is a carnival clown who was raised by a species of clowns from outer space. He is also a drug -dealer, pimp, and lackey for demons. His hero is John Wayne Gacy. He's diabolical, manipulative, can read thoughts and energy. He has just been made the event co-ordinator for the 2023 Summer Solstice Celebration at the Cannibal Café. But he is so busy, it is hard to keep up....but the demons he serves may not be patient.

Kera is Jiggly's girlfriend, and the tentacles on her head see a lot! She's not always pleased with the direction that Jiggly is going.

Tyler Reese is a teenager who hates his generation and believes it's his duty to kill James Reilly. Reilly deserves to die. Tyler's plotting, planning, and meticulous nature has led him down a path of revenge and paranoia...but there are repercussions.

Sharon Mable is almost 30, and always dreamt of being famous, and her somewhat erratic boyfriend Kevin, may have the ticket.

Cassandra LaRue is Sharon's room-mate, and works for a talent agency. She is not happy with her boss Ira.

Lilly Hempstead is a book blogger, wife, a mom to Christopher and Sam, and a bit of a bitch. Christopher often suffers from her tongue. But events unfold that make her realize how much her sons really mean to her.

FBI Agent John Mills has been with the bureau for 20 years, chasing one criminal incessantly, but it turns out Mills may already know him. CIA Agent Helmsley often works with him.

All these people have a role to play in this year's Solstice Celebration. They won't all be there for fun and games. Not all will survive.

My Opinions:
Well, I admit, after seeing the length of this book, to setting it aside (again and again). Every time I wanted to start it, I realized what a herculean task this may be. In the end, it was well worth reading....but I kept coming back to OMG it's long. I was looking at the page numbers as they went by....not necessarily a good thing.

However, I really did enjoy the book....and to be honest, the chapters are short, and they flew by. The story is told from different perspectives, and this worked really well. Information was given out sparingly at times, but eventually it wove together marvelously.

The plot was a little "out-there", which can be expected when you are reading horror and sci-fi. The book hits a lot of topics, including kidnapping, betrayal, manipulation, blood drinking demons (and blood-drinking humans), demonic possession and breeding, not to mention pedophilia, violence and murder. It is also about second chances, strength, and unexpected heroes.

The cast of characters was unique, whether they were human or not. Another note...there are a LOT of characters, and trying to determine what side they are on is half the battle (and half the fun). I have to say that I did have some favorites (even though they weren't always perfect). I loved Kera, Tyler, Cassie, and even Jigglyspot.

The writing was really good, and the descriptions (while horrific), were very detailed, and expressive. LOL, if you aren't into gore, this book should probably be set aside for someone else.

Overall, I enjoyed it!

What in earth did I just read? A half human, half warlock dressed as a clown who is obsessed with murder. This is in very dark and disturbing book, and perfect for spooky season. In fact it is released on Halloween.

This is a blend of crime, science fiction and extreme horror with a large cast of characters. There is Jigglyspot the clown, the federal agent hunting him down, a mother, a teenager, an aspiring actress and actor and plenty more. They all seem to have no connection to each other, until the carnival comes to town.

If you can handle extreme gore and violence, explicit sex scenes and a lot of blood, give this book a try. It will be available on Kindle Unlimited from 31st.

Thanks to the author for sending me a copy of this book to read. Not my usual genre but it was one that was intrigued about. Like. I thing that I have ever read before, and I doubt I will again.

Amazing. Riveting.

Update: Stephen King step aside. There is a new clown in town…and his name is Jigglyspot. We have carnivals, cannibals and clowns that are sure to supply a ride you will never forget.

“People love clowns, but that wasn’t the problem, was it? Nope, no at all. Jiggly’s problem was with humanity, a species he despised more than he could fathom. Why? Because they have half a brain.

Zero intellect.

Jigglyspot’s greatest asset is his ability to blend in, to be underestimated.

SAC John Mills has dealt with death but his biggest mystery is the mop bucket arsons. He knew there was more…twenty years of mop bucket arsons more. And Reilly’s mop bucket begins our descent into Hell.

On page sixty eight (of 560) pages, when Jigglyspot took a drink from the fridge…my stomach lurched. Cringe worthy. Savagery beyond my wildest…nightmares.

Where does P D Alleva come up with these ideas? He takes horror to a whole new level for me. So many trigger moments, but I do love dwelling in the darkness. So wickedly, deliciously evil. Will humans become slaves, mere vessels for THEIR pleasures? Who will stop them? Will anyone BE ABLE to stop them?

The story is told from multiple points of view. I would say the main characters are Jigglyspot and Tyler, but we have other characters that are important to the story. Characters like Kera, Lilly, John Mills, Helmsley, Sharon, Cassandra, Mr West, MysterE,and more.

“It’s the laws of the universe, Tyler. When energy shifts too much to one side, an equal and opposite reaction must occur on the other and the universe will have the proper balance through chaos and destruction.

There was no way I could sit down and read the book in one day, not even two days, but I did not want to stop. My hands were cramping, my vision blurring, and still, I read on, until I had to stop and sleep. So, I will warn you. Set aside some time, because I don’t think you will want to stop either. You may even want to keep the lights on. Maybe even have someone with you, if you think you can trust them with your life.

There is graphic violence that has many triggers, so Jigglyspot is not for the feint of heart. After going over my review, I took some things out. I did not want to give anything away, yet I want to say more. I was so engrossed in the story I ignored everything around me. I think, if you love horror, you will love Jigglyspot.

I've been trying to think of a way to give this book justice as I review it. PD Alleva provided me a physical ARC copy and I am so beyond blessed.

Not even 1/3 into the book, I messaged him and told him I was sick to my stomach. It wasn't any descriptions I haven't read before, but his excellent writing and development of characters painted such a clear picture in my head... it was unsettling. In the absolute best way.

This is 600 pages, but the chapters are wildly short, it flies by. It's also told from multiple POVs, one of them being the most disgusting clown, Jigglyspot. A vile character. 🤢

If you love horror, I highly recommend this wild, but excellently written and weaved together novel.

*And stay tuned on my insta in October when the book releases for a giveaway! & make sure to check the trigger warnings, this is not for the faint of heart.

“He enjoyed looking down on them; inferior species deserve to be looked down on. Although Jiggly couldn’t look down on too many people, not with that pudgy five-foot frame.

(DEUTSCH WEITER UNTEN)

Do I know what I’ve read? Pfft, no.
Can I explain the book to someone and make it palatable? Absolutely not.
Was it fantastic? Oh, hell yes.

Many of the horror books I’ve read haven’t convinced me with their writing style. (So if you know any well-written ones, let me know!) But „Jigglyspot and the Zero Intellect captivated me from page one. The style was really enjoyable and the book was as easy to read as ice cream melting in summer. There were some nasty word repetitions and awkward sentence structures here and there, but all in all the book was really, really well written!

Really, I can’t say too much about the content. There are big and small clowns, a cannibal café, warlocks, aliens, demons and spiders. (Yes, those are important!)
And let me tell you, cannibalism also includes babies.

Somehow this book is completely bananas and so good at the same time.
I liked the horror, liked the characters and also the settings. Liked all the primal fears the author played with. Many of them „clichéd, but really damn well done.

I would have loved more interaction between Tyler and Jigglyspot and would so love to read more about them. UGH, gimme more xD (And no, usually sequels in horror don’t turn out that good - I’m satisfied even if I’m not; because I’m greedy like that! XD)

I’m just in love, it was so wonderful!

(DEUTSCH)

Weiß ich, was ich hier gelesen habe? Nein.

(Wenn ihr also gut geschriebene kennt, immer her damit!)

This is an epic tale of killer clowns with a taste for flesh, with alien abductions and experiments and journey’s to other realms thrown into the mix, culminating in one hell of a read that's no laughing matter!

Jigglyspot is a warlock, or so his Nana once told him, he hates the world and everyone in it. Gacy is a God in his eyes, and he uses that aspiration to teach the world, and the zero intellects that reside on it, a brutal life (or death) lesson.

Adopted by an otherworldly species, and taking on his clown persona as a kind of cover for his usual appearance, a short man who is regularly overlooked by the public, this gives him the upper hand when it comes to acting out his deadly deeds. He's meticulous in cleaning up after he's done, but that in itself is a clue for the police. Especially Police Officer John Mills, who has been left rather perplexed by the strange mop and bucket conundrum for the last two decades. At least once a year, an abandoned, burnt mop and bucket are the only things left in an otherwise empty room..

Jiggly needs to extract from people, their very essence, it's like a drug to him, it helps him to survive, and to kill! He gets a taste for murder at a young age, (which is told in flashbacks), and the other benefits it brings him, and it's like an addiction thereafter. When Tyler and his friends visit the carnival, Tyler starts to see clowns everywhere, and it leaves him feeling chilled. When one of the clowns hands them a flyer for the newest ride, the Shibalba X-Press, filled with trepidation, they enter and things get wild.

When Sharon’s boyfriend Kevin invites her to be his guest at an exclusive restaurant, she agrees, 100%, but just what exactly has she agreed to? Sharon has found a way to make it on her own; she doesn't need Cassandra anymore. Which is handy, because just where the hell is Cassie anyway? Sharon soon settles into her new role, and develops a ‘taste for the finer, more delicate things in life!

Meanwhile, her ex-best friend Cassandra, finds herself held hostage in the dark, but by who, and why? She is now an unwilling hostess, used in a gross, stealthy and sinister way to save the otherworldly race of creatures, and to help to replenish ‘The Island.

Everything leads nicely up to The Solstice, or The Great Feast, where the menu is something very sweet and very special, and the guests will feel out of this world! When Tyler and Jiggly come face to face for the first time, a familiarity is immediately felt and Jiggly feels a strong bond, one he wishes to make even stronger! And when Jiggly discovers that things aren't as he has been led to believe, it's time for a very bloody and explosive revenge!

The story hooks you in straight away, teasing you with little tidbits of information to get your curiosity dialled up to the max! Short, sharp chapters make for a smooth, easy read, and “just one more chapter gets very addictive making it unputdownable too. The mystery surrounding Jigglyspot unravels at a steady pace, teasing and tempting you along. I enjoyed how the story went from past to present, gradually disclosing just how Jiggly came to be. The story is fleshed out well, all the background character development easy to understand and to follow, holding your attention and steadily building the intrigue for the first half of the book. And then, once they take their turn on the Shibalba X-Press, things quickly turn into a wild, crazy, nightmare of a ride for everyone involved. The action and horror ramp up brilliantly, causing you to eat up the rest of the book like a ravenous, starving clown!

Chilling and horrific, with great visual descriptions this is so much more than just a creepy cannibalistic serial-killer clown. Containing lots of description in the narrative, down to the finest details, making for crystal clear imagery, and with lots of twists, turns and revelations towards the end, this is a true carnival of chaos, corruption and carnage, with a brilliantly satisfying ending!!

If you like cosmic horror, creepy clowns, cannibalism and carnage, you'll love this!

This book had a little bit of everything, including things you'd probably rather not have read, to be honest. Aliens, demons, freaky clowns, sexual depravity, bonding, humor, and redemption, to name a few. You know you're in for one heck of a roller coaster ride after that list.

Jigglyspot is one of the most interesting and awful characters I've come across in a long time. He's cunning, he's ruthless, but he also has moments of love and compassion. Jiggly is also one of those guys you have a love/hate relationship with. He's doing these horrible things, yet he's so certain he's doing them for the right reasons. It's a weird place to be.

In addition to Jiggly, you have a host of other fascinating characters. Mills and Lilly were my favorites, I think. Mills because he'd been involved with Jiggly in one way or another for years and I always want those resolutions! And Lilly because, as a mom, I could relate to what she was going through. There were a ton of side characters as well, making you wonder how and if they'd all come together in the end. It takes about two thirds of the story to get there, but they do finally come together in a very big way.

Overall, the plot is very vicious and almost no one is spared as the story moves forward. I'd caution anyone with a weak stomach or tender sensibilities to steer clear of this novel. I've been reading horror for decades and there were times I had to put my e-reader aside for a bit to process what I'd read. However, it was worth pushing through for the ultimate showdown in the end.

*Thanks to the author for an advanced copy of this novel in exchange for a fair and honest review

RELEASE OCTOBER 31.

By some Bizzaro synchronicity (totally unintentional!) this is the SECOND Demonic Cannibal Clowns Extreme Horror I have read, in 2 days!! I don't know what the Multiverse is telling me....

Literate Extreme Horror. Hair-raising scenes, lots of blood, death, gore, assaults, torture, taboos. Demons. Clowns. Phobia-producing. Suffused with imagery to the extent I would perceive in Literary fiction, thus: Literate Extreme Horror. I caution readers of a Sensitive Nature or easily offended, PLEASE seek out the Cautionary Warnings listed on the Author's website [also linked at the commencement of this novel].
If, however, one is a devotee of Extreme, or not easily frightened/terrorized/traumatized/offended, please proceed. Enter at your own risk, after all. Demons are never to be trusted.

600+ pages fly by in this horror novel that is as if IT by Stephen King was told from the perspective of Pennywise!!

This novel is so ambitious, and it also pulls off every single scare, jump, and otherwise horrifying feature that is promised. One of the first things I learned about this book is that our main character is probably not one that we can trust. That's important. Every single character within this novel has their own motives and driving factors and that is one of my favorite things about this book. I didn't know who to trust, I didn't know who was innocent and I didn't know if it mattered. However, this book sucked me in and wouldn't let me go. I think it will do the same thing to you. This book feels quickly paced despite being a larger novel. The short chapters from the perspective of each character ensure that you feel like the story is flying along even though it's over 600 pages.

This talks about clowns. Clowns are one of my favorite scary features and Jigglyspot did not let me down. He is horrifying in a Pennywise-esque way, but because we get his perspective it's even more scary. You know exactly where his morals lie.

Let's talk cosmic horror. This book is ambitious as I mentioned before, but in addition, the cosmic levels in most books I read - don't always live up to their promise. THIS BOOK DID!! There is so much to love surrounding cosmic horror that I think readers are going to love it.

All in all, check this book out because it's so good and you're going to love it.

This book follows Jigglyspot, the cannibalistic murderous clown, and various other POV’s, in preparation for (and during) the Summer Solstice Celebration at the Cannibal Café.

I can honestly say I’ve never read something like this before. Describing this book as murder and mayhem is vastly underselling it, and the only one safe are animals (how refreshing). This book is sort like if The Terrifier were to host a party for his demon friends.

Sadly, this book wasn’t a good fit for me as I found it to be too long for my liking and way too many things happening at once. I had some trouble telling characters apart and keeping up with the plot. That being said, I hate clowns, terrified of them actually, but my favorite character in this book was without a doubt Jigglyspot himself, so big kudos to the author for not only making me like a clown, but a cannibalistic one at that.

If you like a good outrageous horror movie, this book would be right up your alley. I think especially fans of Grady Hendrix and The Terrifier movies would appreciate this book.

Big thanks to NetGalley, Chamber Door Publishing, and the author P.D. Alleva for allowing me to read this ARC.

What an incredible read! Even the spooky clown on the cover couldn’t have prepared me for what I was about to read in this book! This fast moving story had me compelled from the very first page.

The story is broken up and woven together seamlessly making it a riveting read that I could not put down. I truly have never read anything quite like this one. And even though there are a lot of characters and layers to this book it all works and makes sense and is perfectly executed!

I can’t say a whole lot without giving spoilers, but you should definitely check this one out if you like horror books with complex storylines and creepy clowns!

I’m not sure how to begin reviewing this book.

This novel is a well-written horrible disturbing book. But in a good way(??)

This book and it’s contents are not for the feint of heart. It is a disturbing and horrific novel that is so well done it’s hard to put down. From the beginning I was captivated, never knowing what would come next or what atrocities would be revealed.

The novel flits between many different point of views, the main one being a clown called Jigglyspot. Each character, from our monstrous Jigglyspot to a simple housewife, is so well written that they seem to come off the page.

The descriptions in this novel are very realistic. The writing, beautiful in its savagery. I could not put this book down and could not close my eyes to the visions within. The author does a wonderful job of weaving a captivating tale through the treachery of demons, monsters, and the humans that feed them.

If you like horror movies, and are not afraid of gore, then this book may be for you.

I received an advanced readers copy of this novel for free and am leaving my honest review voluntarily.

Absolutely loved this book. I haven’t been this excited about reading a book in a long time. The story kept me interested from beginning to end. All the different characters and their storyline. The suspense throughout the book was great, I thought I knew what was going to happen and then it would take a turn in another direction. The ending just left me wanting more. Perhaps the novel Golem will give me that?

Full disclosure I am terrified of clowns I mean the drop on the floor and roll up into the foetal position kind of terror. When PD Alleva approached me to see if I wanted to read his new book Jigglyspot, I jumped at the chance. I really enjoyed his book Golem, so I knew Alleva would deliver another terrifying psychological horror in this book. Of course I didn’t ask him what the book was about. Enter Jigglyspot a five-foot sadistic clown who’s literally the thing of my nightmares. Well played Mr Alleva, well played!

I am still recovering from reading this sci-fi/horror/fantasy with serious amounts of blood, gore and terror. I’m not going to go into the plot (I will leave it a terrifying surprise for you to figure out!) but it’s a dark and twisted read perfect for spooky season. And although my fear of clowns wasn’t helped at all after reading it, there were even more disturbing and sadistic characters to scare the hell out of me! Jigglyspot isn’t for the faint-hearted so make sure to check the trigger warnings.

Jigglyspot is a chunky one- 570 pages of the most twisted characters you can imagine. Told from multiple perspectives, there are six protagonists to keep track of, but like in his Golem, Alleva weaves their stories together nicely.

Jigglyspot is out tomorrow (31st October) just in time for Halloween so go grab yourself a copy. Thanks to the author for the arc.

Now to find a therapist to deal with my clown phobia. Mr. Alleva, I will be sending you the bill! 4 ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

I write this review as a member of Rosie’s Book Review Team (author, check here if you are interested in getting your book reviewed) and thank her and the author for this opportunity.
I discovered PD Alleva thanks to his novel Golem, which showed a peculiar world vision and writing style, and much of what I wrote about that novel could apply to this one: his ability for combining elements of a variety of myths, literary genres, horror subgenres, occultism, demonology, without relying on standard religious tenets. In this case, we also have elements of science-fiction, and galactic horror, and some of the scenes and events brought to my mind some of the classic 1950s sci-fi/horror movies, where aliens managed to infiltrate the Earth and humanity. But this is not the whole of the story, and the narrative is much more complex and with many more layers than those we can find in some of those beloved (and often revisited) stories. And I shouldn’t forget a nod at Lovecraft or two.
The description of the plot, although not too detailed, provides a good glimpse of what you might find, and it is difficult to elaborate much more on the story without spoiling it, so I will not be too detailed in my comments. One thing I have to say, though; do heed the author’s warning about the content. This is not a book for the faint-hearted, and even those who love extreme and hardcore horror might find it heavy going.
The novel is divided into 7 parts, told from multiple points of view (although always in the third person), and there is an extremely varied and large cast of characters, human, “other (some of those, like Kera —a favourite of mine more than human sometimes), and anywhere in between; and most of them are not particularly likeable, easy to engage with or root for. Having said that, readers are likely to re-evaluate their thoughts and opinions on most of the characters at some point or other, and good and evil, innocence and guilt are moveable feasts. This is a very ambitious book, with a complex narrative, served extremely well by the various point of view, some of them pretty uncomfortable to share, and readers are often left wondering if things are happening in our world, in a parallel universe, or in the mind of a character whose sanity is, at the very least, suspect. These narratives appear, at first, totally unconnected, and although readers might wonder about the chronology, we eventually realise that all the stories are taking place in the same place and time and in roughly chronological order, and there is a ticking-clock effect towards the end that ramps up the tension and accelerates the pace of the narrative into a frenzy.
From the warning, readers will surmise this is not a story for those who prefer gentle tales and loveable characters. Quite the opposite. Almost all types of depravity, crimes, and evil deeds one can think of —and some most of us would prefer not to contemplate appear in this book. The characters “literally got to Hell and back, and we have warlocks, clowns, gods, goddesses, demons, extraterrestrial beings, teenage murderers, aspiring actresses with few scruples, teachers, mothers, tough book reviewers, FBI and CIA agents, children, adults, and a very singular carnival with all its inhabitants. The author manages to combine all those elements and create complex imagery and mythos, a world where the characters might be pawns in someone else’s game, but things are not that straightforward either. The nature of good and evil is questioned, and there are many possible readings and interpretations of the events. The author’s imagination knows no bounds, and he manages to create a total more horrific than all of these seemingly disparate parts.
This is an ambitious and fairly long novel, but it does not feel slow, and readers need to pay close attention to all the details, as they might miss something that later on plays an important part, although thanks to the spiralling and multipronged shape of the narrative, it is not difficult to pick up the thread and get a full picture of the story. The ending makes us question everything we’ve read before and is perfect for a horror book. And, by the way, there is a link between this novel and Golem, but you’ll have to read both (if you dare) to find out what (or who) that is.
Despite the terrible things that take place in the novel, there are moving and poignant moments and funny retorts and events (for those who love black humour, really funny at times). This is a book in which the horror reaches beyond the story and creates an uneasy feeling that will stay with the readers for a long time.
I recommend this book to hardcore readers of horror who enjoy mix-genre books, don’t shy away from extreme cruelty and gore, and especially those with a taste for complex narratives, conspiracy theories, and not looking for a reassuring ending. If you have a thing for clowns beware, and if you don’t, well, that might have changed by the end of the book.

Review
I want to thank the author, P D Alleva, for sending me an ebook to review. I am also so glad I faced my mild coulrophobia to read this and I am surprised to say despite being a half human half warlock clown of extremely questionable morals I have to say Jiggyspot is probably the only ‘evil clown next to IT that I like. I also want to say that I loved that Alleva includes warnings but cleverly puts these on the website so you don’t have to spoil what is to come if you don’t have many triggers (when it comes to works of fiction at least) or so you can prepare yourself. It is safe to say this is an extreme horror and there are things in here that might trigger some readers. I’ve grown up loving horror from the mild to the extreme so when it comes to fictionalised events or actions in media I don’t tend to have many triggers other than animal abuse. Thankfully there is no animals harmed in this novel which was refreshing but as Alleva states everyone else IS fair game.
So what you can you expect from this novel? Well let me tell you it will be more than you bargain for and it is presented in a neat, enjoyable but blood drenched package. Jiggyspot is a five-foot tall half human, half warlock who works at the carnival as a clown but spends many a free time dealing drugs and being a lackey for demonic entities who pray on the weak and cast their shadow on humanity via fear and manipulation. Due to his faithful service or perhaps just bad luck he is selected to serve as the event coordinator for the 2019’s Summer Solstice Celebration at the renowned Cannibal Café. The celebration sees humans and demons alike take part. Yet he only has two weeks left to get everything right and the feds are hot on his tail already. Between securing new recruits for possession, choosing fresh bodies for dinner and the fact that Kera, his girlfriend, keeps taking up his time Jiggly is beginning to get a little more than stressed.

Jigglyspot keeps reminding himself that the demons will appreciate his sacrifices but he knows this is unlikely, after all they are hell to work with and he’s been doing it for decades. Will the carnival clown be able to rise above and beyond or will mayhem lead to betrayal and destroy all he holds dear? You’ll have to read to find the answers but I can at least let you know a bit more about why you should read this novel!

First and foremost this is brilliant if you love extreme horror with a touch of science fiction for good measure. It’s visceral, dark, gritty and grabs you by the throat and does not let go even at the end. Alleva knows the genre’s he’s using and he uses them to perfection. The cast of characters is varied, fleshed out (pun intended) and work so well with each other. I have to say at first I was wondering how such a large cast of characters would work or if it would mean the plot or other characters suffer. I can safely say that didn’t happen, on the contrary it was interesting to see how the characters all interconnected and intersected each other at certain points of the story. I also adored how chapters were told in certain characters view points and we were aware of the location and time. It gave a sense of urgency and kept reminding us of Jiggly’s deadline Of course I mean the deadline for the feds or someone stopping him of course I certainly was not hoping the bad guy won and certainly not when he is a clown…okay so I was a little but really I just wanted to see Jiggly and Kera walk off into the void together despite his dubious morals at best. Speaking of Kera, I adored her. She was easily my favourite character next to Jiggly. Followed closely by Mills but honestly all the characters even the dastardly ones were interesting, enjoyable and fun to read about.
But why the characters are fantastic what about the writing and plot? Well let me tell you both of those are amazing and brilliantly crafted. The writing style is easy to follow that meant while the book is over 500 pages long you can easily breeze through it but personally I enjoyed taking my time and enjoying the complex world that lies just beyond ours all the while watching, waiting and manipulating. The plot is also tightly woven. As I already mentioned we have a rather large cast and each one has their own story and we see how these almost complete strangers lives all weave and interact together and how that affects the plot. I can’t remember the last time I was left wondering how things would all turn out and what would happen in the end but in the best possible way.

Honestly I adored this and will be following Alleva who is now on my instant buy author list next to Stephen Graham Jones, Lee Mountford and Steven King when it comes to the horror and thrills genre. I particularly loved that no animals were harmed, even if in the author’s words ‘everyone is fair game! But in all seriousness if you love extreme horror with extra helpings of gore, chills, thrills and a stellar plot you are going to love Jigglyspot and the Zero Intellect!

'Jigglyspot and the Zero Intellect' is a fascinating and frightening read. It literally gave me nightmares! To avoid spoilers, I won't tell you what they were about. The story is told in limited omniscient point of view with each chapter focused on a different character: Jigglyspot the half-human half-warlock clown, John Mills the federal detective, Lilly the young mother who struggles with her family dynamic, Sharon the aspiring actress, Cassandra the businesswoman, and Tyler, a teenage murderer with something key in common with Jigglyspot. Pretty much all of them felt unique, something I always crave from the horror genre.

I personally enjoy stories that shift characters because it lets you get to know them more personally while creating suspense while omitting certain things happening with other characters. The author seemed to have no problem in keeping the storyline clear and the timeline on track (no sensation of "head hopping"). He wrote this fast-paced, albeit long, horror thriller that was hard for me to put down, where the separate character experiences all met up in a concise, satisfying way.

With each page, the plot thickens, the world builds and oh what an expansive world it is! Beginning with the simple set up of a clown cleaning up a crime scene, a teen killing a bully, and a mother having trouble with a son acting out, the atmosphere grows darker and scarier while the universe grows equally large and scary. Satan, god/goddesses, demons, ghosts, aliens, cannibals, warlocks, secret orders, dirty cops, and the corrupt one percent... Just laying it all out might sound convoluted, but everything clicks into place at the prefect progression for both sense and creating yet another layer of terror the moment you think you're in the safety of the known.

There was a surprising amount of heart in this story despite the villanous, murderous, self-serving cast. It wasn't your typical "heartfelt" though, it aligned with the characters' personalities and alignments and I was invested in each one. I particularly enjoyed Kera, who lived in a world of violence and suffering, her beloved being the sadistic evil Jigglyspot despite her arguably "light" leaning beliefs.

The exploration of morale based on perception was fantastic. You have Jigglyspot who despises humans, believes them dumb (hence the title of the book) even though he is partially human himself. Creatures who view humans as fodder, much like humans tend to do with other animals. Then you have the ones who view warlocks such as Jiggly expendable despite their sentience and power above humans. On another topic, you see murders argue about how the reasons behind their killings differ and therefore set them as better/worse/same as the other. Even non-killers put forth their two cents on the topic, their own judgements. There's also predictions made based on comparisons between people that both foreshadow and offer hope of change in the same breath. All of this is delivered in a realistic, logical manner. It's not just people being indignant whiners- arguing for the sake of arguing. I absolutely adore when writers shed light on the grey nature of morality.

Despite the sense it would make a good movie, I also believe there's no way the screen could capture every chilling detail that PD Alleva has in this book. The atmosphere was truly perfect for horror, a fact that does not surprise me due to other work of his I have read. So I'll have to concede with Jigglyspot on this one (you'll get what I mean if you read it). It kept me on my toes for sure! The book has everything horror fans love: violence, gore, sex, depravity, torture, a fighting spirit, doom yet hope, action, suspense, terror, characters to love and to hate, an enthralling storyline, and of course, A CREEPY F***ING CLOWN.

Cannibalistic killer clowns, Aliens, Demons... all this and more within the pages of this book. I received an ARC directly from the author and wasn't sure how I'd feel about it going in. It's definitely not for the feint of heart, and while I love a good horror movie, I usually can't watch the gory parts. But honestly this was so very engaging and action packed that I didn't really have time to dwell on the gory bits.

Most of the characters in this book you're gonna love to hate! While I didn't really feel a kinship with any of them, except maybe Kera, in no way did that keep me from wanting to see what crazy, depraved thing was gonna happen next. And some of it was downright disturbing! LOL

Buckle up and get ready for a wild, scary, and sadistic ride!

Holy moly this book is so much more than the blurb says it is. We have the cannibals, clowns and carnivals, but it goes into so much more. I found this read to be a little disjointed at the beginning, following six separate POVs- however once it all came together it was such an engaging story.

I really enjoyed Jigglyspot’s characterization, I liked following his story the best.

One thing that kept it from a 5 star for me was the repetition, I found a lot of descriptions were repeated over and over, and it felt like it needed some further editing to trim it down.

This being an ARC review, it’s possible that will happen before release. I would recommend this book for sure.

I received this ARC for free and this is my honest and voluntary review.

Not giving a rating as I DNF’ed this book at 30% through. I initially enjoyed how the book started off with Jiggly and the Special Agent hunting him down. But the story frequently jumped around through six POVs with added elements of sci/fantasy thrown into the mix. Things started to get a little too “out there in such short amount of pages and I just wasn’t vibing with it. It just felt like too much at once with too many big ideas that felt rather convoluted.

While this personally didn’t work for me, this may work for fans of multiple genres (horror/sci-fi/fantasy/crime) thrown into one book that’s extremely complex with a full cast of characters.

Jigglyspot is on a quest. With the Feds hot on his trail, will he be successful or will he let down the voices in his head?

“None are innocent

Those are the words of the star of this book, Jigglyspot, and it serves as a theme of the book. This book is a rollercoaster of deciding who to root for and who to root against, and I love that. I love being kept on my toes.

Though this is a thick book, the skillful way that PD Alleva has written the chapters leaves most of them on a cliffhanger that encourages you to keep reading. For horror/gore fans, there are some pretty intense scenes that will also keep you interested.

A wild, fun ride!

I've read books from P.D. before, so I knew I was in for a treat. This review has taken me a long time because it was a long read. However, it's a rewarding read for any horror fan.

Jigglyspot is one crazy ride. At first, you see Jigglyspot as a crazy murderous clown. However, as you read further, there is much more to it. I don't want to say what it is, but it's quite the plot twist. Nonetheless, if you love horror reads that mess with your mind, you'll enjoy this one.

One of the better horror reads of the year in my opinion.

Jigglyspot is a 5ft carnival clown and warlock, he is also a fixer for demonic beings who see humans as food. This year he is organising the Summer Solstice Celebration at the Cannibal Cafe and everything needs to be perfect! Jiggly and his clown brothers, demons and killers need to acquire fresh victims to be eaten and possessed, it’s a busy time.

A cast of characters tell the story from multiple POV’s, the FBI agent, the starlet, the talent agent receptionist, the family of 4, the teenage killer, the grieving mother, the dark lord, the goddess, it is going to one hell of a party!

This is horror on an epic scale, a horror opera played out over two weeks with multiple settings, characters, each thread pulling towards the diabolical finale. It is supernatural, cosmic, SciFi, cultic, crime, body horror and moves seamlessly through the genres.

The themes are x-rated so please check the triggers, it is gory, gruesome, sickening, explicit and incredible. It is a 500 page story but the chapters are fast and short so you fly through the story effortlessly.

A diorama of depravity that sucks you in and takes you on the ride of your life.

What did I just read! Clowns, demons, monsters, gods, trips to hell and back, a devil circus, evil warlocks, blood, cannibals! And this absolutely amazing cover. I was a bit hesitant to pick up this book: it was more than 500 pages and the synopsis seemed too intricate. I was wrong: the chapters are short, the writing crystal clear, the plot fast-paced, action-packed, and the gore well, let's just say that the atrocity level is quite high! And the ending: that was seriously messed up! I was never bored, never confused, always riveted by what was going on on the page. That nasty clown Jigglyspot is really monstrous, so take care: if you liked Terrifier, pick up this book immediately!

I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.

What the heck did I just read? This book was WILD! Told from the POV of 6 different characters, it has plenty of mystery and twists to the very end. Coming in around 600 pages, it’s packed with a bit of everything horror-fantasy:
✔️ǷɲԲ

✔️𳾴DzԲ

The chapters are short which made it an easy read for the length. Check your trigger warnings - it’s dark and violent.

Awesome Story

I know it’s only March 2024 but this is the best story so far this year and I think it’s going to be hard to top this one.

I will have to read Golem to find about Mr. West.

Cannibilstic warlock clown, gargoyles, demons (oh, and they are pedophiles), decomposing ghost, murder, aliens, Xibalba, different dimensions, demonic rituals, spiders crawling out of a woman and The Dark Lord.

And a fight to stop the Goddess and The Dark Lord taking over the earth and many universes.
