Stuttering Maximilian Croyso spent a lifetime suffering the abuse of her cruel father, Duke Croyso. The Duke’s final act of cruelty? Marrying Maxi off to the war hero Riftan, legendary slayer of dragons. Now these two complete strangers have to try to make the arranged marriage that neither wanted work out.
At first, the brooding Riftan and shy, nervous Maxi have nothing in common. But their dark pasts make them more similar than either could have anticipated and soon the two outcasts find acceptance in one another for the first time.
Even deeply in love, Maxi realizes that she needs more in her life to be fulfilled. Riftan risks his life on dangerous adventures protecting the Seven Kingdoms while Maxi is left behind. Desperate to prove her worth, Maxi learns healing magic from the impertinent mage Ruth. But when Riftan discovers that magic is putting her at risk, he is against it. She doesn’t need to help him–her only responsibility as a lady is staying safely at home.
What Riftan doesn’t expect is Maxi’s refusal to bow to her expected role, and instead determine her own fate. Maxi wants to use her growing skills as a sorceress to fight by his side, to protect Riftan as much as he protects her. Despite Riftan's opposition, Maxi heads off to the Mage Tower to expand her skills and save his reputation....
This volume collects episodes 140 of the Second Season of the web novel Under the Oak Tree. Enjoy the official webcomic of Under the Oak Tree on Manta app.
I will always love this story no matter how toxic it is lol. As always, Riftan is an asshole but you kinda feel for the guy cause of childhood trauma. Maxi is a sweetheart who has grown a lot as an individual since the start of the series. Can't wait to see what happens next
I actually came across this story in Manta and fell in love with it. I was so psyched that the author was releasing the novels in English. My heart is with Maxi and Riftan. This is one of those rare stories that I would happily re-read over and over again. There are scenes that literally had my laughing out loud or crying... Great job Suji Kim!
I'm so proud of Maxi for giving Riftan the cold shoulder! Make 'em struggle sis! She's gaining her independence and Riftan will just have to adapt. But are they still one of my fave couples? ABSOLUTELY lol
There is a lot I can say about this series. I've read, re-read, and pined hopelessly for the next book over and over again. The writing is excellent, the side characters are fleshed out and are actually significant to the story. There is realistic character growth, where there is progress and setbacks just like real-life growth. A weirdly EXCELLENT and realistic portrayal of a young woman who grew up in an abusive household? I've laughed aloud reading this series. I've sobbed uncontrollably multiple times, where very few books have ever even made me shed a tear. I'm in love with the world, the characters, the passion, the overarching plot. All I can say is: give this series a read. It is perfection.
I really liked season one of this sereis and I think it's hard to see this as a seperate book than the first season. Overall I liked the plot and the overall story. I'm just slightly annoyed that Maxi and Riftans relationship isn't progressing in any way whatsoever. Maxi is a rather naive character and given her background it's reasonable. I think she has developed and changed quite a bit throughout the story. What I do not like is the fact that Riftan is not changing at all. It seems almost like he only likes Maxi for her to be there physically so he can sleep with her, he doesn not care about her opinions, her wishes and her mental well being. The only thing he does care about is her physical well physical well-being. He does not acknowledger her thoughts and her worries for his well- being and the well-being of their land and their people. And also the way Riftan and Maxi always fight and instead of communicating they just f*ck and all is well again?? I do hope that Riftan's character will develop and change into a less toxic character in the next parts.
Finally, after three long years at the mage tower riften and Maxi have been reunited, and I love how bold and confident Maxi is becoming, and I will eat up the next book!
I absolutely adore this series. Surprisingly it is the most accurate description of war and character growth that I have ever seen. It is very honest about how long it takes to heal from emotional scarring and its lasting effects despite the time that has passed. The last chapters had me sobbing over how poetically romantic it is. I hope Suji Kim continues the series with more side stories because I would love to see Riftain and Maxi’s future as well as the knights we’ve come to love.
I am beyond p*ssed at Riftan. After constantly hoping that Maximilian could go home and endless daydreaming about their reunion after three years he has the nerve to be the same pr*ck she left. I have made excuse after excuse for Riftan, I'm done. The whole time it was as if I was getting dragged along with Maxi.
Moving on. Ulyseon has dug even deeper into my heart with his constant chatter and chivalry. Maxi's character arc has somewhat grown too as long as it doesn't evolve he who must not be named. She gave stutter-free orders in a stressful situation. I was shocked. Maxi even got a little feisty when she had had enough of jerk-face.
The plot was getting interesting yet nothing ever happened. No progression of the storyline or relationships and definitely no communication. I'm flabbergasted, to say the least. I love this series but I think I'll pretend like this book never happened. It can go on the shelf with Nevernight's Darkdawn and TOG Tower of Dawn! They shall hence be swiped from the record.
Not much else to say except my heart hurts and Maximilian and I deserve better than this. Eat sh*t ya big Knight b@st@rd.

I am so annoyed at this book, I love riftan, but seriously!!! there is being in huff, and then there is this!!
The storyline comprises of going to locate a ruin, adventure along the way, but not a great deal is happening, its the weakest of them all, but I think we are all awaiting the love story we have all fallen in love with, there is none of that, which is sad in itself, but his treating towards maxi has ruined this for me, It's based over weeks and he barely acknowledged her, for a man who has been in love with someone for years and years, his actions are terrible.
I was waiting for maxi to ask for a divorce cos I'd sure as h£ck ask for one.
TS SONG: mean y you're losing me
Season 2 is off with a grand adventure. I definitely like how we get more than Maxi’s pov too. Having a few scenes from Riftan was especially satisfying.
These two have a lot of ground to cover as they are brought back together in yet another life and death situation. More complicated twists develop as the conflict with the monsters has resurfaced.
A m/f epic romantic fantasy. I got hooked on this series after reading the web comic. The book is definitely better but being able to go and see illustrations, brings life to the world and characters too.
Dual pov’s told in third person
Maxi and Riftan reunite after 3 years apart. Definitely need to read previous books/seasons.
Steam - Definitely not as hot and heavy as previous books but still some hot make-out scenes.
When I say I can not say enough good things about this series, (I'm not really sure what it is called) but it is absolutely phenomenal. I just love Max and Riftan. It is worth your time and money.
"Under the Oak Tree: Season 2 -1-" by Suji Kim delves deeper into the intricacies of love, sacrifice, and self-discovery against the backdrop of a fantastical world. Set in a realm where magic and medieval society intertwine, the novel follows the journey of Maximilian Croyso and Riftan, two individuals bound by an arranged marriage. Maxi, burdened by a lifetime of abuse at the hands of her cruel father, Duke Croyso, finds herself wedded to Riftan, a renowned war hero with a shadowed past. Initially, their union appears to be a clash of opposites Riftan, brooding and battle-hardened, contrasts starkly with Maxi's shy and timid demeanor. However, as their shared experiences unravel, they discover a profound connection forged through their similar struggles and yearnings for acceptance. Central to the narrative is Maxi's quest for autonomy and purpose beyond the confines of traditional gender roles. While Riftan embarks on perilous adventures to safeguard the Seven Kingdoms, Maxi seeks to prove her worth by mastering healing magic under the tutelage of the audacious mage, Ruth. Despite Riftan's insistence on her safety, Maxi's resolve to carve her own path strengthens, leading her to defy societal expectations and embrace her burgeoning powers as a sorceress. The author masterfully navigates themes of agency, identity, and resilience, painting a vivid portrait of characters grappling with their past traumas while striving for a brighter future. Maxi emerges as a compelling protagonist, her determination to challenge norms and stand alongside Riftan in the face of danger endearing her to readers. The dynamic between Maxi and Riftan evolves organically, their relationship imbued with tenderness and mutual respect as they navigate the complexities of married life and impending threats. As Maxi and Riftan embark on their intertwined destinies, readers are left eagerly anticipating the next installment of their enchanting saga.
Ok, folks, I understand that it's frustrating that Riftan is being an Ice King with Maxi after 3 years of being apart. But let's remember that this man has no communication skills because of the harsh environment he grew up in and has always been extremely cold and guarded with everyone else. Maxi is the first person he ever let his guard down and fully trust, and she up and left for Mage Tower (I know she was forced to, but regardless). Yes, he's being unreasonable, yes, he's being very unkind to Maxi. But I also think it's realistic for his character to act in this manner. Maxi is always slow to communicate openly, leaving it up to him to take the lead. This is part of how their relationship got to this point.
The scene in which he shows up and saves Maxi is one of the most heroic scenes I've ever read. So romantic. 💕
Read on the official translating app Webnovel so I do not own the book. I mean UOT is a sensation! Everyone is in love with the book, I am too. I think that in this second part, although we can see that Maxi has taken a step forward in her self appreciation and a stronger self esteem I still think she is too fragile, like a gust of wind will knock everything that she had built to the ground specially with how she is around her husband. Riftan, on the other side never got to work on his character, I think. Their separation was a huge blow to him and it only festered anger. I am looking forward to the rest of the story.

Maxi is on another adventure, this time with the Tower Mages. She’s been away from home for 3 years and many things have changed in that time. Her reunion with Riftan doesn’t go at all to plan and she can’t really focus on it when she’s busy on an expedition.
As always, I love these books. They’re full of adventure and emotion. I teased up a number of times while reading. If you like magic and knights, fight scenes and epics, these books are for you.
....but it still gave me all the feels. I'm so happy the author decided to continue to translate the story. I'm so IN LOVE and OBSESSED with this pairing. I can see the whole story clearly in my mind, like a movie. I'm currently read the webtoon as well. I can't wait for this to turn into an anime, a TV show, and a movie. I'm going to be so sad once this whole saga ends 😔 but I'll read it again and again for years to come ❤️
The beginning of a great new chapter in the series
Finally getting the two back together they seem to have a lot to overcome. Feelings of abandonment and longing at the same time. As usual Riftan can't stay mad long as his deep longing forces him to put down any feelings of anger and protect his Love from danger. Can't wait for the next book!
