The Hero:Rikar - he is the last of the frost dragons and he belongs to the Nightfury clan. He knows that Lothair kidnapped her and the Razorbacks, including his nemesis Ivar have her. Rikar knows the woman. He knew she was a female that drew pure power from the meridian, the energy source that fed dragon kind. He played pool with her once and couldn’t get her out of his mind. He wanted her safe.
The heroine:Angela - she is a homicide detective and is surprised to find herself kidnapped and trapped. She is a POW in a war she knew nothing about. All her training couldn’t help free her, and she was hit with the reality that dragons exist and are at war. She disliked Lothair immediately. She knew he was mean and couldn’t stand him being close to her. He told her they had been looking for high-energy women like her. Lothair had fed on her and she couldn’t stand the thought of it.
The Story: Angela was beat down a bit by the cruel Lothair, but the Razorbacks didn’t know that she had a photographic memory, and he didn’t cover her eyes as he input the code to unlock the door of the cell he put her in. When she made a play for escape, she was able to slash Lothair with a knife and beat him unconscious while she tried to find her way out. Meanwhile, Rikar was trying to find out where the Razorbacks were holding Angela.
The story was interesting. These dragon shifters were way different from any I have read about before. There was a thing with the sun, like vampires. They had to be inside during the day. They also needed to find a sort of fated mate, who were high energy and had a connection to the meridian. Ivar was trying to find and cage a bunch of high energy women and cage them for breeding experiments. His rogue Razorback dragons liked to abuse the women and were ready to get back at Angela after she got the best of Lothair.
This audiobook was told in dual points of view via solo narration. It was narrated by Benjamin L. Darcie, who has a deep and pleasant-sounding voice. He isn’t one of my favorite male narrators but he does a good job. If an audiobook is going to be in solo narration, I like a male narrator rather than a female narrator.
4 Stars!!Nice second installment in the series, but not without some issues. First off let me say that I loved Angela and Rikar’s pairing, a great match between two strong characters. Angela was kick-ass awesome and Rikar was so in tune with her, wanted her so badly, but treated her with kid gloves and let her take the lead in their relationship. It seems to be the trend in this series, as it was Myst who initiated intamacy with Bastian in their book. The woman are the agressors when it comes to “first contact and I rather enjoy that for a change!
I also relished the strong presense of all the characters from in this book. Mac, Angela’s partner, was front and center here and had a huge hand in the storyline. Not much I want to reveal about him, you’ll have to read and find out, but I’m sure you’ll be as pleasantly surprised as I was! Forge, father of Gregor-Mayhem, is a character I’m looking forward to reading about as the series continues. He is strong, fierce, but has a soft side, a yummy Scottish dragon with a brogue!! Dragolicious!! Venom, Wick and Sloan rounded out the characters nicely with the ever faithful Daimler keeping the order at Black Diamond.
Great dialouge, but not enough. Too many pages of description and people pondering over “stuff! AND…what was up with the reference to product names, like Wonder Bread, Macbook, Blackberry and even BIC, you know as in a “pen!! I didn’t quite get what was going on with this and I thought it was just plain weird in a book about…dragons!!
There was plenty of action, with an exciting ending, wrapped up enough to feel satisfied, but I wanted a little more Rikar and Angela time. Then again, it is a continuing series and I’m sure we’ll see more of them in the future. It’s going to be a long wait till is released in November…grrrr…which is about a character that I’m in LOVE with!! Can’t tell you who though! Hehe!!
Even with some minor compliants, it’s still a great series and different enough that it will hold your interest and have you chomping at the bit for the next book!
Did i say i was hoping that the inner dialogue was going to be toned down some in this one? Yeaaaahhhh, it didn't happen. We're STILL in peoples' heads!! Gah, it's soooo frustrating because the characters and the storyline really are good! I'm not sure what Coreen Callahan or her editors are thinking by not picking up on something like this...i don't know, is it just me and it's not really that big of a deal?...maybe it's just her way of "storytelling?"
I'm actually the last person who will ever nitpick about the editing in a book...whether it's punctuation, misspelled words, run-on sentences...as long as a story is well told and sucks me in, i'll usually over look those sorts of things, but for some reason this whole lack of speaking in books is something that REALLY bothers me!
I'm very torn as to whether or not i want to keep reading these books where people don't speak!...well they DO speak..just very little. Now that i've met all these characters it's so hard to let go when i want to know what happens to them and who they're future mates are going to be! Once again, things were set up for the "H" and "h" in the 3rd book, so i think my plan is going to be to take a little break and return to these at some point.
Oh things are getting hot with Coreene Callahan's Dragonkind. The battle between the Dragonfuries and the Razorbacks is escalating.. tempers are fraying and the frostiest dragon has met his match.
I loved Ryker in Fury of Fire, he was a solid second in command and an even better friend. His loyalty to Bastian was remarkable and he made the hard choices even when it broke his heart. His loyalty to the Nightfury brings him into Angela Keen's sphere and he falls hard.. Not sure what is going on he wipes her memory and moves on with life.. but when Angela is captured with Myst , in Fury of Fire, and only Myst is saved.. Ryker almost looses it. His pain was palatable.
Detective Angela Keen, the only cop who can put up with Mac. She is tough when she needs to be and even when captured she put the needs of the other captive first. Helping Myst escape but getting caught herself. In Fury of Ice, we find Angela in captivity and looking for a way out. It was brilliant, this is no swooning miss. This chick is tough! A trained cop and a good one. No one needs to "take care" of her she can care for herself.. Which doesn't mean she is a man hater.. nope she is just secure in who she is.
This story was absolutely brilliant! There is so much going on, an intricate dance of stories. And yet it never gets confusing or losses your interest. What is cool about this book is it's about the seconds. Ryker is Bastian's second and Lothaire or as Angela likes to call him that rat bastard.. is Ivar's. And they carry the battle story. The importance of a good second and the power they yield in the name of the team.
Another really excellent point, you kinda feel for Lothaire.. He really just wants to belong.. oh sure he chose the wrong side and is a rat bastard BUT he is extremely loyal to Ivar and when he talks about finally finding a home, it made me feel for him.
We do get a hint about the Archguard and that maybe my theory about them sitting on the fence to see who wins might be more accurate than I thought. Or rather there may be corruption on the Archguard.. hmmmmm..
Another little plot twist, we really get to spend time with Forge.. what a delightfully wicked dragon he is.. His entire agenda it appears is to get his son back and yet... Then of course there is Mac.. oh yeah.. Mac has some serious secrets of his own! Like I said, lots going on.
I have to laugh because there are two members of the pack off to Europe at the Archguard games.. Can you imagine their faces when they get back? Two bonded pairs.. a pregnant female, an infant and of course two new pack members.. see that's what you get for going on vacation.
This series is just getting better and better.. can't wait to read Fury of Seduction!!
It was an okay read and I'm going to start on the next book, but there are so many plot and detail inconsistencies that its truly frustrating. Also, it is a straight up knock off of Black Dagger. The characters even use some of the same dumbass phrases that, while cute in BDB, were plain irritating in this series. Enough with the "shitkickers" already. What's so terrible about using the word "boot" or some other synonym for warrior footwear?
Kindle Daily Deal, the reason I bought it. I think after a while I read 1 page every 10, I was bored out of my mind. A decent heroine couldn't disguise the processed meat this book was made of.
The writing style was atrocious, channelling Ms Ward to the commas isn't my idea of fun. There were paragraphs eerily similar. :(
I couldn't connect with it. Plus, if you hint to rape, you'd better hint at consequences too. Magic peens aren't one.
The first book in this series had serious similarities to Ward's BDB: the language, the two factions of warriors battling each other but with dragons instead of vampires, etc. Even though I wasn't crazy about reading a BDB clone, something about the characters pulled me and I decided to give a chance, specially because I had read in previous reviews that the author became more herself. But I didn't find any such thing.
The book still has the million POVs and lots of internal rambling about unnecessary things. Who cares if the villains are eating sandwiches or that one of them like trucker lingo? I want time spent on the actual relationship - after all, this is a romance. But that was glossed over, specially the heroine's recovery after her kidnapping and abuse. Am I suppose to believe that a woman in her situation would be hooking up with a guy so soon? Give me a break!
Bejamin Darcie's narration was spot on even if his Scottish accent wasn't very attractive -sorry to say, he's no Robert Petkoff. but I definitely listen to another series narrated by him.
I liked most characters in the book - I applauded when the heroine realized that she was being very selfish by endagering the hero with her pursuit of revenge - but I just wished we would have spent more time on the main characters. I'm curious to see what's the deal with Wyck so maybe I'll continue listening. Can't say for sure right now.
The Author is a terrible writer. There's no connection with the characters or the story line. It's a lot of pointless speak of a characters thoughts that are repeated through the whole book. The entire first 2 books are a BDB ripoff. It wasn't just close to BDB it was her taking BDB story lines & phrases and putting it in a dragon version. I mean why would Dragons not be allowed in the sun. She should of just wrote a vampire book. Unfortunately I would not recommend this series to anyone unless you want to laugh at how ridiculously dramatic the characters are. They are worse than any other paranormal "found my mate" series.
I don't know why but I didn't quite like this book... It was pretty boring. The story was eventful enough, but it didn't capture me. It all felt like something I had read before.
The writing really bugged me as well. I like JR Ward's writing in The Black Dagger Brotherhood series and the writing of these books is very similar if not an exact copy. But with BDB it's still very clear whose POV we're in. It's clear that people have different ways of talking. In this series they all seem to talk the same way. For the dragons that's okay, but for their mates who have never been a part of their world it's very weird to talk the same way.
There's a certain lack of personality in everyone. They each have one trait that they're entire character has been build on and that makes it boring and very two dimensional...
I'm not gonna continue reading this series, maybe I'll return to it some day, maybe not.
Rikar and Angela's story was just as good as Bastian and Myst's in book 1. I love that the dragons are all different and have different talents. I love that they are attracted to high energy females, even though I'm still figuring that part out. I really like all the guys in the Nightfury which is good because that means I'm really looking forward to each of their books.
From the minute I found out about Coreene Callahan's new paranormal romance series about dragon shifters I knew I had to read it. I've always had a soft spot for dragons but you don't seem to find many of them in this genre - not enough for me anyway! I have to admit I was a little disappointed with the first book Fury of Fire, I'm not going to go into too much detail because I did that in my previous review but there were things about the mythology that didn't make sense and I found it difficult to get on board with a relationship where the hero knew that his actions would kill the heroine. However, despite the problems I had with the first book I still felt that the series had a lot of potential so I couldn't resist requesting a copy of the second book Fury of Ice when it came up on the last Amazon Vine list. I'm very pleased I gave the series a second chance because this was a much stronger instalment and I'm now really excited to see where things go next in Fury of Seduction.
Detective Angela Keen was a side character in the first book as she investigated the disappearance of Myst. At the end of the last book we saw her captured by the Nightfury's enemy the Razorbacks and she went through quite an ordeal before she escaped. I have to say I can really get behind a heroine who manages to rescue herself rather than sit around waiting for the hero to come and save her. Angela is tough, she has trained hard to be good at her job and she refuses to sit back and be a victim. After her escape she is emotionally raw but she is determined to get her chance at revenge against the dragons who took her. She knows she can't manage it on her own though so asks Rikar for help.
Rikar is Bastian's second in command and the loss of Angela to the razorbacks raised all of his protective instincts. He is determined to keep her safe and he is so sweet in the way he is willing to work at earning her trust and not push her into anything she isn't ready for. He obviously cares for her deeply and really struggles with the instincts to keep her safely away from the enemy and the need to give her whatever she wants by letting her get in on the revenge. I felt their romance was much more believable than the one between Bastian and Myst, both Rikar and Angela were much more likeable and it was easy to route for them as a couple. I did feel that Angela got over her ordeal a little too quickly but that was a fairly minor thing because the author did try to show that she wanted to move on and you could feel the connection between them.
There are still a few too many similarities with J.R. Ward's Black Dagger Brotherhood books and Lara Adrian's Midnight Breed series but I felt that there were less this time and I'm hoping the series moves even further away from that as it continues. I had some major problems with the motives of the bad guys in the first book but I'm pleased to say that was resolved in this book, I'm not sure if I misunderstood things before or if it just hadn't been explained very well but either way things now make much more sense which I was really pleased about. I really enjoyed getting to know more about some of the other dragons in the Nightfury clan - Mac and Forge both particularly caught my attention but I also have a feeling that I'll really like Wick so I'm hoping they all get their own book in the future. I'm pretty sure that it will be Mac's turn next and I'm definitely looking forward to reading his story.
I would happily recommend this book even to people who weren't completely sold on the first story. This instalment was much stronger and I think the series will just get better and better. If you like the BDB and MB series or any other book with a strong group of male warriors who put their lives on the line to protect others then it would be worth giving these books a try. The banter between the dragons is fun, I like the fact that the women still have a part to play in the story and I love the fact that there are so many different dragon types and they all have different skills. I'm looking forward to seeing what happens next.
I am a huge fan of dragons, so when I first got wind of this series I was really excited. I inhaled the first book, Fury of Fire and was thrilled to receive the second one through the Amazon Vine program. Especially since it focused on Rikar, I really gravitated towards his character in the first book and was eager to see how his story played out.
We pick up right where we left off in Fury of Fire, Angela has been captured by Lothaire and Rikar will do anything possible to get her out. When we meet up with Angela she is currently under Lothaire’s control and it was not easy to read what she has been through. However, it did establish her as an extremely strong character and able to think on her feet. I admired her courage in the face of evil and her ability to fight for her life and not just cringe and wait to be rescued.
Meanwhile, poor Rikar is losing his mind trying to find her and deal with a new member of the pack. I will not give away the identity of that member, but I should have seen it coming and just didn’t. Rikar is trying to help the new guy through the change and get Angela back. I liked getting to see him with the rest of the pack because each member is so unique and distinctive. Coreene does a great job of giving each character their own individual voice, so I never got confused about who is talking. I love that about her writing.
While we get the point of views from both Rikar and Angela, we also get to see inside Lothaire and a couple other characters heads that you will have to wait and find out about. I know that having the point of view change so much might sound like it would be confusing, but it actually had the opposite effect. Seeing this world through so many eyes made the story flow very well and kept the plot moving forward. Each character held a piece to the overall puzzle and as we change point of views we get more pieces coming together to make the overall picture. It was a well-balanced book that did not linger too long on the action, the down time or the romance.
Speaking of the romance, Angela had quite a few issues to work through before she could give her heart to Rikar. She had an emotional journey to go on before she could enter any kind of physical one with Rikar. And he was there for her every step of the way. Who would have thought that the guy who was giving Bastian a hard time in the last book would turn out to be just a big of a sap? These two were walking on eggshells around one another trying to feel the other out and see where they stood. They almost talked themselves out of a relationship before it even got off the ground, but luckily they let their guards down long enough to give their feelings a chance. It was a very different courtship from the one we saw with Bastian and Myst and I was happy to see Coreene change it up a bit to keep it exciting.
The overall story arc with Ivar is still going strong and man is that one creepy guy. He is seriously twisted and I think he is just going to keep getting worse from here on out. He does not have as much page time as he did in the last book because Lothaire is really in charge of the battles in this book. However, I know we have not seen the last of Ivar and I am sure he will continue to cause problems in future books. He is a fantastic villain, easy to hate and definitely one I want to see brought down in the end.
Overall, I am just completely hooked on this series! The dragon shifters in this world are fascinating and I cannot get enough of them. Luckily at the end of this book we get a sneak peak at the next book, Fury of Seduction, due out in October. I am so psyched to know who that book will be about and will be counting down the days until I can get my hands on it. If you have not checked out this series and are a fan of dragons and paranormal romance, then you are missing out! Make sure you read Fury of Fire first and then dive right into Fury of Ice.
Even knowing what to expect this time around, it still took me a bit to settle into Fury of Ice and get used to the author channeling J R Ward that brand-name dropping slangy voice which readers either love or hate - though I'd have been a bit happier if the women in the story leading lady Angela and next up leading lady Tiana didn't speak BDB too. But once I was able put that into the background, I actually ended up enjoying Fury of Ice.
Yes, Callahan's dragon shifter world is still an amalgamation of at least three other popular brotherhood of immortals series so like the lovechild of Adrian's vampire Midnight Breed, and Cooke's dragon shifting Pyr fostered by Ward's Black Dagger Brotherhood but what is lacking in the originality of the world-building is made up for by the characters and their relationships. I am a sucker for male bonding, so I am happy that in addition to giving us a main romance and the set up for the next one, Fury of Ice also adds some new dragons to the Nightfury clan and starts building some relationships between these new 'brothers' as well as allowing us to get to know some of the background characters better.
I liked the romance between homicide detective Angela and ice dragon Rikar in Fury of Ice much better than one for Myst and Bastian in first book, Fury of Fire I had a hard time getting past mating equaling death sentence for the heroine for much of the previous book. While I am hugely hero-centric and Rikar is a great leading man - protective yet patient, making sure to honor his battered heroine and allowing her to more past her victimization to again become the warrior that she is- I actually really liked Angela too. I was happy that along the way she is able to rescue herself and to be a vital part of reclaiming herself and that she doesn't fall into TSTL territory while doing it. I also really liked the two newest members of the clan, a water dragon whose name is a spoiler and the 'enemy' dragon Forge. Watching the former learn the ropes and the later gain the two things he wants most were entertaining.
While I liked this book, I still had nits I still think that making the dragons UV-challenged-and-poof-into-dust-when-they-die is weird, and the Razorbacks (bad guy dragons) are really really bad and worried me in this book since they are after the women who are potential mates to the good guys and do not treat them well the abuse of the heroine was off screen this time but I am really hoping that not all of the upcoming leading ladies will have to suffer that fate.
So bottom line is that there is enough that I liked about Fury of Ice that I enjoyed this second installment and I am very much looking forward to the third book, Fury of Seduction, and am looking forward to books for some of the other supporting dragons Forge and Wick in particular.
The second book in the Dragonfury trilogy starts right up where Fury of Fire left off. Detective Angela Keene had been captured by the Razorbacks a segment of the half-dragon half-human species that humans aren’t aware of—to be used in a breeding program. As she looks for an escape, Rikar, a member of the Nightfuries—small group of warriors that regularly fight the Razorbacks in order to keep their species a secret from the humans—is desperate to save the woman he’d only met once, but felt a deep connection to.
At the same time Angela’s partner, Mac, is experiencing his own physical problems as the dragon DNA he didn’t know he carries, activates after seeing a dragon when the precinct was attacked in the last book. He too is desperate to find the partner he thinks of as his little sister.
The story itself is decent, although at times it still feels like I’m reading the work of another popular author. This aspect is easier to let go of in this book then it was in the first one because we aren’t really faced with any new similarities to the other author’s world than we hadn’t been exposed to in the prior book; which was rather jarring. However I’ve got the same complaint with this writing as I do with the other author’s. While a good job is done with the character building, they come across with the same voice due to the thoughts loaded with metaphors and the use of name brands to identify items. A couple of examples are Otis for elevator, and the brand of jeans I’ve never heard of instead of just saying jeans. It’s difficult to believe that all of these people think in the same manner.
We are still missing a great deal of information I’d hoped would be explained in this book such as the approximate size of the dragons. We seem to get contradictory information as they can swat railroad cars around with their tails yet can land on an apartment balcony or be in a regular-sized room if their wings aren’t unfurled. How long does the average dragon live? How old are these particular guys? How does the Nightfury group make their money to furnish what they have along with all of their technology? We were told in the last book how the Razorbacks use unscrupulous manners to make theirs and since the Nighfuries are the good guys, well, it makes you wonder.
And how does one elf do the cooking, cleaning and apparently the shopping, laundry, etc, since no other servants are ever mentioned and yet they live in a place that has more than 7 stories? Maybe these will be answered in the next book.
Again, the story itself is decent. There is plenty of action, humor, sex, sexual tension and emotions. The characters are easy to like and appreciate. This is an author to watch.
Dragon, dragons, and more dragons! I’ve been reading so many books about dragons lately, and I’ve become obsessed with them since reading book of this Dragonfury series, Fury of Fire. Although, not as exciting as its predecessor, FURY OF ICE succeeded in feeding my new addiction, and has me wanting more.
Obviously, these dragons aren’t your normal fire breathing dragons. Actually not all of them breathe fire. Some breathe ice, while others acid or venom. But one thing’s for sure—all the “good dragons are very hot and very sexy men, when not in dragon form, of course. Some of these good dragons have formed a group and they call themselves the Nightfuries. They have more or less vowed to protect humans from their dragons enemies, known as the Razorbacks. Obviously, the idea of good vs. evil isn’t a new one, but the war between the two groups of dragons gets hotter and hotter as each ruthless battle is fought.
The thing I love the most about these dragons, is their dedication to their mate. Their natural instinct to care for and protect their female makes me want a dragon of my own. This and the fact that they form some sort of brotherhood really reminds me of J.R Ward’s Black Dagger Brotherhood series. Obviously, the two stories are very different, but the feel and the flow of both series is quite similar. So if you enjoyed one, I highly recommend the other.
This second book of the series primarily concentrates on the story between Rikar, a frost dragon and Angela, a homicide detective. You would think being kidnapped by the Razorbacks would make Angela afraid of dragons, but on the contrary, she and Rikar develop a very intense relationship. I really appreciated Angela’s doubts about this new relationship because it makes her seem so much more realistic, and as a strong female character, it reminds us that she’s still human, despite her her battle ready attitude.
When every book in a series has different main characters, I really appreciate when an author doesn’t forget about the previous main characters. In FURY OF ICE, Coreene Callahan kept us updated on Myst and Bastien’s relationship, which burgeoned in the previous book. Even after this sequel, their story still isn’t quite finished since the “mystical bond between mates still hasn’t really been explained. Myst’s life is in jeopardy and the author is definitively keeping her readers on their toes by omitting such tantalizing information.
FURY OF ICE will take you on a chilly ride of dragon fights and dragon passions. Great characters makes this story worthwhile and the easy flow of dialogue and action has kept me interested until the very end. I’m just glad book 3 is only a few months away because I think I’m running out of good dragon-romance books to feed this new addiction of mine.
Fury of Ice is the second book in the dragonfury series by Coreeen Callahan. I was able to obtain this through Audible, and since I have a love for audiobooks, I knew I had to get this through an audiobook. I do love a steamy shifter romance, but when you put dragons in the mix, the heat level on rises...mmm deliciousness in one book, who can resist??? Fury of Ice is Rikar's story, we continue on from the last book, where Angela ends up being kidnapped by dragons with a evil agenda. Angela is a detective, and is tough as nails, but being forced to feed the Razorback, Lothaire.. Angela's strength is almost depleted, when a chance to escape opens up and she barely escapes with the help of Rikar coming to her rescue. Rikar and Angela are mates, and Angela is suffered from a form of PTSD, and Rikar is her anchor. With danger surrounding them, will Angela and Rikar be able to form the mating bond without losing one another to the enemy?
Fury of Ice is a fantastic shifter romance, and I do love dragons. They are so passionate and fierce, and I totally take it in for all its worth. After reading the first one, I have been waiting to read Rikar and Angela's story. Even though I am not huge on the battle ready heroines, I really admired Angela, she was a very endearing characters, that instantly pulled at my heartstrings. From the beginning of the story you see how much that she has suffered at the hands of Lothaire, and I admire her courage and stubbornness to survive, she never gives up. Rikar is not going to give up on Angela, no matter what. Rikar is quite a swoon worthy hero, I would trade places with Angela any time. Rikar is a warrior, second in command, and definitely has the Alpha Male routine going on, but there are times where you love the way he is with Angela. He gives her room to breathe and make decisions for herself and tries not to push her too hard. I enjoyed seeing these two together, and what chemistry!! I thought my room would turn into flames, with that these two characters were dishing out. We do see a sub plot, with Angela's partner who ends up being a fledgling water dragon (way cool right?), and the circumstances of his future mate which was a good start for the next book which is their story.
A suspenseful plot, that is packed with action, sexy dragon shifters, tender romance and a story to bring a tear or two to your eyes, and barks of laughter at other times. A story full of everything that makes a paranormal romance, Brilliantly well done...worth every penny!! Fully recommended.
Ms Callahan really got me going with this second installment in the Dragonfury series.
After reading the first, I was hungry for more. The first one left a chance for this one because Rikar already fed from Angela through the Meridian.
I really admire Angela because she's kickass, I'm a sucker for those kinds of heroines. The independent, no-nonsense types who know how to defend themselves with bare hands or weapons like knives and guns. That's what exactly what she did, though she suffered harshly under the hands of Lothair, Ivar's next-in-command. I hate those Razorbacks, which just goes to show how good the author built up the "hate the enemy" phase.
One couldn't help but compare this to Ms J.R. Ward's Black Dagger Brotherhood (BDB) series. There may be similarities with the writing style, some concepts, but the war here is dragons VS dragons. Nightfuries against the Razorbacks (rogues) and they're fighting for their own causes. Doggen from BDB is Numbai here, the serving class. I also like that they're scattered all over the world, Forge from the Scottish pack is a breath of fresh air. I like that the author stuck to the spelling of how the Scots speak.
On to Rikar and Angela, one couldn't help but like them both 'cause they're really meant for each other. I applaud the author for making a lot of things happen in this second book, it opened up a lot of possibilities. Theirs is a brutal romance in a sense. Rikar's gift of weapons to Angela, and holding down the enemy for her to finish is quite significant. He didn't treat her as fragile, but believed in her strength, and gave her what she wanted without remorse.
The fight scenes were good too, the Nightfuries aren't really invincible 'cause they sustained injuries. They're half-human after all.
I'm currently reading Mac and Tania's story as I write this review and let me just say that the Rikar and Angela's story wasn't rushed, the time frame doesn't matter for bonded males. The author made it so they were matched well, Angela likes the cold and her favorite season is winter. On another note, I was glad for the reunion of the partners, they're pseudo-siblings (Mac and Angela).
This sequel is a definite upgrade from book 1. I wasn’t sure I was going continue this series and I am glad that I did. Aspects of the series still remind me of Black Dagger Brotherhood & Midnight Breeds, but this second book established it as its own series. The connection between Angela and Rikar was a must stronger match and much better chemistry than Myst and Bastien from Book 1. First, I think I like the Angela better than Myst and I like Rikar better than Bastien. One of the things I enjoy about this series is that the women are strong and independent. They are quite resourceful.
In Book 1, Angela was kidnapped and raped by Lothaire, but in the beginning of this book she escapes a Razorback stronghold. She is tough. She makes it her mission to help the Nightfury find and try to rescue the other kidnapped females, whom the razorbacks where using for experimental breeding programs (*ahem Midnight Breeds)
My major complaint is that the dialogue tended to get overly cheesy and repetitive. We get it, as a bonded male, you would rather die than hurt YOUR FEMALE. You live for YOUR FEMALE. No one better look or touch YOUR FEMALE etc.
I also like what the author is doing with Forge. He is definitely a complex dragon with an agenda of his own. He seems like he is one of the good guys, but he also seems like he would be willing to do anything to get what he wants. Then we have the newest dragon, a rare water Dragon, Mac. He is Angela’s big brother, but it seems like he has been keeping secrets from everyone.
While the writing and plot is a tad subpar to BDB and Midnight Breeds, it is still of the same vein. So if you enjoy those series, you will definitely enjoy this one too. I look forward to reading book 3, Fury of Seduction, which is Mac’s story.
Coreene Callahan did it again! The second installment of the Drgaonfury series is as action packed as the first one! Add in a kick-ass heroine and you’ve got a winning combination.
I really enjoyed this book and was hooked from the moment I started reading it. I could easily pictures what Ms. Callahan was describing as her descriptions are fluid and vivid. The fight scenes are adrenaline pumping and full of action. The sex scenes are hot and the romance is heart warming!
Ms. Callahan did an excellent job of dealing with some very nasty, very disturbing actions taken by the Razorbacks against Angela. As a reader I was very aware of what happened to Angela but was not faced with graphic descriptions of what happened to her. None of it was gratuitous as is explained and defined Angela’s actions and hesitancy when it came to Rikar.
Her portrayal of Forge was amazing. He’s a lost dragon looking for a place to call home. He’s torn, wants his son back, and so desperately wants to fit in with someone, wants a family. I think he’s a nice addition to the Fury pack and I can’t wait to get to his story.
Mac becoming a dragon is phenomenal! Not only does his dragon DNA kick in late in life, he’s a rare dragon! Imagine that! I really liked him becoming part of the storyline as he is so important to Angela. It sounds like his story is next, and again, I’m looking forward to it!
I am completely hooked on this series and have no idea what I will do until November when the third in the series comes out. Who knows how long it will be until number 4 comes! I am NOT a patient woman!
The only thing missing from this book, the McDonald’s Big Mac Jingle!
Angela, kidnapped by the Razorbacks, has to escape on her own or become just another victim. Her partner and fellow police officer, Mac, was thrown out a window of the police station right before she was ripped away from her life. Angela truly had no one else to save her, except herself.
Mac wakes up to find himself in a hospital room and all he can think about is Angela. She was attacked and taken by dragons, that’s right dragons. He has to get out of the hospital and save Angela…but something is seriously wrong with him. He wants to be in the water. His bones and muscle feel like they are shifting.
Rikar can’t get the female Angela out of his mind. After he fed from her power, he is linked to her but somehow when the Razorback’s took her, she went off the grid. He is obsessed with finding her, she captivates his mind.
That’s just a basic summary of the first chapter or so of Fury of Ice and it just gets better from there. Coreene Callahan is a genius with dialog, the “real speak pulls you in and keeps you invested in these amazing character from start to finish. Action, romance, friendship and belonging (family) takes main stage in this installment of the Dragonfury series. Plagiarizing a phrase that a friend once told me…there is just right amount of “dragon porn to spice it up :D. Truly loving this series!
Excellent 2nd book. Quite different from the first. Contains a spoiler or 2. I liked Angela a lot because even though she got herself into a lot of trouble she sure as hell got herself out of it. Shows amazing strength in a woman in an impossible situation. Rikar was a funny guy...he made me laugh actually. So funny how alike he and Angela are. How she took the gift he had and tried to manipulate him into helping her. That was great! You know...he really was sweet. Very good to her and her needs. Not wanting to rush things and letting her take her time. He's a favorite for sure. Forge!!!!! Yea!!! I was hoping they would make him one of them because he was so not the bad guy. He finally got to hold his baby! I hope he gets a story because he deserves happiness too even if he lost his female doesn't mean he shouldn't be given another chance at love. Mac...haha kinda funny how he turned into a dragon. Funny but not. I like him a lot too. Its nice that he has a bond with his partner Angela. They both needed each other to keep grounded and deal with things. Awesome they finally reunited. This is why I like this series because there are so many GREAT secondary characters. They aren't pushed into the back like in some books and THEN get a story of their own. Its all interwoven. On to read Mac's story.
If you are a fan of J.R. Ward and the Black Dagger Brotherhood, then there is a series that you may have missed but need to check out. Published by Montlake, a division of Amazon that publishes indie authors, the Dragonfury series should appeal to those that like Ward's style of writing.
In the second book in the series, Rikar, the Dragonfury second in command, is on a mission to save a woman he met once but can't forget. On a mission for his commander, Rikar got to know the Seattle detective Angela Keen. But beyond duty, he got to really know her and her energy. Since the Dragonkind are dependent on energy from females to survive, feeding from Angela was an experience he can't forget. But when Angela is taken hostage by the Nightfuries greatest enemy, Rikar will stop at nothing to save her from a fate worse than any woman should have to endure. Not only is Rikar sure that Angela will be physically violated, but the Razorbacks will violate her energy and take from her what females should only give with consent.
