A friend of my daughter's wrote "Ruby Blue" so I was a good Mom and bought it. I didn't know what to expect because this is Julie's first book and it is a "Young Adult" book on top of that. Get the picture???

Well, imagine my surprise when I got totally hooked on it! Ha Ha I got my autographed copy when I was back in MI in April and decided to wait until my birthday last weekend to read it - a birthday gift to myself so to speak.

I climbed into bed late that night and started reading, expecting to finish a few chapters before dozing off, as usual. No way could I put this book down! I ended up reading until 4:30am because I just HAD to finish it.

The characters are delightful and real, the storyline is intriguing (imagine tiny flying fairies who can make themselves big like humans) and the plot is enticing. Way to go Julie!!! Now I'm anxiously awaiting the next book in the series. And waiting... And waiting... Hint Hint

My 13 year old granddaughter enjoyed it, her 11 year old brother who HATES to read loved it and this 66 year old grandmother loved it!

Thanks for sharing your wild imagination Julie!

This YA Fantasy has everything: fairies and magic, mystery and romance, converses and ice cream, and a character for the ages: Ruby Blue. Julie Cassar possesses an astonishing talent to capture teen voices, and Ruby's delightful, authentic, whip-smart narration elevates the story.
It's impossible not to fall in love with her and her gang, and with their banter. It's dizzyingly fast-paced, witty, and full of surprises. For example, you'll never guess who is "he" is in this passage: "No. He did not just do that. Yep. He did. He... evilly smirked at me." The author made me believe there is magic in a certain little northern Michigan town. This sweet debut novel is not only wildly fun and romantic: it also contains a hidden message of friendship and tolerance. I just loved this book and cannot wait to read "Deja Blue."

O-M-G!This book it’s …amazing!I love it so much!First,I fell in love with the cover. Then, I spoke with the author,Julie Cassar, who is very nice and she said that she’ll send me an ARC of “Ruby Blue. And I was so happy. And then, last Tuesday,I received the book and in weekend I started it.And it was like …love at first “sight.I love Ruby from the very first second. Why?Because,OMG,Ruby it’s soooo funny.I mean ,she always has something funny to say or to do,and you can’t not love Ruby. She is alike me.She loves Converse(I do),she love ice cream(I do) and she is funny( I am…or I think I am funny ).

I love Julie’s writing style.It’s so …slightly and she write like a teenager.Really.When I read “Ruby Blue,I thought that Julie it’s a teenager…Love that!

I like very much the story. This book is filled with fantasy, romance, mystery and a lot of humor. This is the perfect mix,and that’s why “Ruby Blue it’s PERFECT!I like, also, how the fantasy is mixed with the normality.I mean,in one second Ruby sees fairies, and in the next second, she kisses Nick, her boyfriend. The fantasy it’s great balaced with the teenager things and drama and other stuff.Ohter REAL stuff.

I like, also, how the myths return to the surface.I mean, step by step,I figured out more about fairies, and their traditions and their land. That’s really, really cool!

One of the greatest things about Julie is that she describes very good the character and the places and EVERYTHING.Sometimes,I read about a place and I had the picture in my head.Well done,Julie! For me,that’s something important. J

When I finished “Ruby Blue I was really sad.I loved the story and the characters and everything and I don’t want to wait untill the second book for more “Ruby.I am so excited about this book and I’m looking forward for the second book,”Deja Blue(I love the title! )

Damn,it’s so hard to describe “Ruby Blue. This book it’s just PERFECT!This is the single word that matches perfect with the book:Perfect!(Gosh, there are so many “perfect in these sentences.Lol J )

Ruby Blue is a high school girl who lives in a small town in Northern Michigan. The imagery in this book is reflected in the beautiful art work on the cover. The detailed descriptions of the characters and places in this book, along with the young adult casual language and writing style makes me relive my high school years. True I never saw fairies, yet I could relate to all of the teenage turmoil and drama in this story. The fantasy elements are well balanced and grounded with the realistic characters and emotions that are in Ruby's story of summer love and adventure. I highly recommend this book if you're looking for some laughs, a light hearted romance, and a bit of fantasy all told from a teenager who doesn't quite fit in. Looking forward to Ruby's next adventure.

AMAZING!!!!! Highly recommend.

Firstly, thank you so much Author Julie Cassar from the *tip of my angel wingz* for “Gift”ing me your spectacular beautiful novel of “Ruby Blue. I LOVE IT.

To follow is my fair and unbiased review

Ruby Blue is my introduction to Fey land, and I’m hooked yep Ruby, Anya and Brennan reeled me in. YAY

What a delightful, fun and extremely well written adventure they all take. It’s almost like I was right there along side Ruby and her friends, I could see Ruby down on her knees whispering to Anya and Brennan in the garden as I flew through the pages.

I have three other Fey/Fairy novels that will be devoured soon, just as fast as I can, plus two new ones soon to arrive!!!!

Note to self: Read in-between my other books.

I’m not going to summarize the story to much, because there are many awesome reviews doing that already. But I must say this Julie Cassar is an extremely talented author who has captivated and snagged a new reader, introducing them to the magical, beautiful world of Fey. ME !!!

The Ruby Blue Series is a must read in my opinion Cue the next book, Deja Blue here I come.

The Review
I thought this book was great, it is a great start to a series, I can’t wait to read the second book, I believe it is called Deja Blue, I loved all the characters in this one, especially Brennan, there was just something about him, You can keep Mr Hotness, I like Brennan, dorky or not!!!! Ruby the heroine of our story, is your typical teenager, I loved that about her, She never tried to be something she wasn’t, I originally thought this was written by a teenager until I looked into the author more, a great writer in my book, as she got the teenage lingo and mannerisms down to a tea, some authors try too hard, I loved all the references to The Wizard of Oz, brought back some great memories for me, I don’t think I have read many faerie stories, if any, so was pleasantly surprised that I enjoyed this one so much, I will be giving this one to my daughter, as I think she will love it, she is at that age where boys are starting to interest her, I think she will love the references to Mr Hotness, and then all girls love a faerie story, so I am told 4.5/5,

I received this book from the author for an honest review.

What an amazing story and one I found my daughter reading over my shoulder! Ruby Blue is a fantastic YA fantasy where first love, fairies, best friends and even a dragon are found in a small town on a lake in Michigan.

Ruby is your average 17 year old starting a summer in her small town in Michigan where she has a job, a best friend Jeremy and a date with the Hottest guy in school, Nick! She loves to garden, swim at the lake and hang out with her other best friends Anya and Brennan but what makes these two friends not average... is they are fairies! She has a special gift that she discovered as a 5 year old of being able to see fairies! Anya and Brennan are able to come into the our world in human size without anyone knowing their true identities. But Anya and Brennan have a secret to share with the long time friend Ruby, not only about themselves but about a myth that is actually true - Dragons do exist and one has come into our realm! With the help of none other than Leonardo Da Vinci the four friends find themselves solving an ancient mystery to save their town from disaster!

This is a great book to share with your YA as it has just enough mystery, fantasy, an introduction to first dates, fairies, and magic to fulfill even the most avid readers appetite! I can't wait for Book 2!

I loved this book! From the first pages to the last, the writing style was so beautiful and fun, there was no way I could not have enjoyed it. The action is extremely vivid due to the fact that the writing style resembles that of a teenager. It is as if Ruby herself wrote the book. The book has all the ingredients necessary for a successful novel: mystery, action, romance and humor. It is a total blast!

I love how easily Julie Cassar makes the transition from the normal world to the fantasy one. One moment Ruby is talking about her garden, her house and her parents and in the next moment she announces she can see fairies. The novel surprises and amuses you with each new page that passes. You get to the point where you want to read the book faster in order to learn all there is to learn about the characters from it.

As far as characters go, I love Ruby. I instantly connected with her. Apart from the fact that she can see fairies, she's funny, loyal and brave. The friendship between Anya and Ruby is very sweet and readers can see fairies portrayed in totally different colors. They are no longer the being we know from folklore that are mischievous and mean. I totally loved every aspect of the novel!

Wizard of Awesome!

I received this book in exchange for an honest review.

Heh...Ruby Blue is a FUN book. That's the word that best describes it, according to me. It has fairies, mystery, a monster (not gonna tell you more on that, read it and see). It features Ruby (whose mother has a thing for the Wizard of Oz, so be prepared for other Ozland references), and three of Ruby's friends - a pair of fairies and her human best friend, Jeremy. It also features Mr. Hotness, aka Nick.

Ruby is just adorable...a typical teenage girl in so many ways and yet she has this ability to see things no other typical teenager girl does. The blend between Ruby's perfectly mundane life and her fey-inspired one gives the reader a perspective that lets them touch the magic in this charmed girl's life. This is the first book in the series, and I've already scooped up book two. Yippie!

It is a YA book, so I recommend it especially for 11-18, and in fact I've already passed my copy around AND talked a friend into buying it for her 12 year old. Ruby talks like a teenager and sees the world throuogh the eyes of one, so her story is REALLY appropriate for that age group, though as a reader three times that age, I thoroughly loved it too.

I was gifted this book by the author for an honest review.
It begins as a cute, funny story about this "normal" teen telling us all about herself, her family, & her friends...but the greatness comes once their adventure begins! This lighthearted tale with unexpected revelations mixes a dose of reality with fantasy, & makes it a fun read. Starting off I had no trouble getting a feel for the characters. Their personalities were like BAM! HERE I AM! LIKE ME OR NOT ... THIS IS ME! which definitely had me giggling over & over. (Teens are funny like that aren't they!?!) I truly enjoyed this book, & I know my daughters will love reading it too! And...I agree why doesn't someone make chocolate chip flavored floor cleaner!?! That would smell great!! :D
I look forward to reading the next book Deja Blue! ;•}

Cute little story, the female protagonist, Ruby speaks directly to the reader, I believe it's called first person point of view-narrative. She uses a lot of pop-culture references. I love her best friend Jeremy, I really love the way he talks, he's very funny and sorta comes off a lot older because of the things he says or the way he says them. It's just a straightforward story with a little bit of romance and fantasy. Just one boy, one girl, a couple a friends and an annoying younger brother.

Review:
Ruby Blue is a really original story. I mean: come on! Fairies and dragons in the same book?? That sure was a great idea!
First of all, I liked that the main character, Ruby, started to introduce us in her life in the first chapters. That way, we can all know the whole story. Hmmm, but the ‘whole story is not exactly just what she knows (but I’ll get to that soon enough).
Ruby is a 17-year-old girl who is crazy about ice cream (especially chocolate flavour), gardening, Converse and books:
“Usually I just went to the library, but sometimes I just couldn’t wait to get my hands on a new book like P.C. Cast’s latest House of Night book came out. I was at the book store having Jeremy ring me up the second it hit the shelves. Sexy vampires and suspicious evil plans to take over the world? Come on! That is good stuff! Ha! Welcome to the club, darling! It seems like we are on the same page
But the catch is that she sees fairies. She is best friends with Jeremy probably the only gay Goth in town and two brother-and-sister fairies, Brennan and Anya. Brennan is the smartass and cocky kind of guy, but Anya is more sweet and graceful than her brother. But I loved Jeremy! His jokes or his swearing always made me laugh aloud:
“FOTHER MUCKERRRR DAMN-A-RAMA KING-KONG SONOFA-BISCUIT-BOOTY LINT-LICKER MUNCHERR-MUTHAHHH!!
Nick Martino, her huge boy crush, finally asks her out, so we’ve got a little sweet romance going on too!
“Oh. My. Gosh. Did Nick Martino just ask me out? I sat there, dumbly looking up at him like a four-year-old seeing Santa Claus for the first time. I swear, if I was a cartoon charater, stars would be shooting out of my eyes.
But the real stuff starts when strange things happen in town: a Christmas tree farm catches fire, some boats from the lake turn upside-down and people see a really big bird at night. Right, big bird! Ha! How could they have not been thinking that the big bird might actually be a dragon? OK, just joking, but it could have been a possibility for a Harry Potter lover
Back to the book
Things start to develope and the action takes control. It seems that Brennan and Anya are Royal fairies and that their father is one of the four Kings from Fey. Celebrity friends, there you go, Ruby! Next stop Hollywood!
But I don’t want to spoiler any more, so I’ll let you find out the end on your own, because there are some great soda-pop surprises standing in line and waiting for you!
My opinions:
Ruby Blue is a quick easy read that makes your mood light up a bit! Julie manages to create a beautiful-and-kind-of-realistic fairy tale. The characters are super-cool and funny and all the Wizards of Oz teasing is kind of cruel, but I have to admit that I liked it!
“Kansas over there finished hours ago!
Well, I recommend this book to everyone who likes fairies or an easy fantasy story. It’s great for a Sunday afternoon in the garden, with some flowers staring at you like some freaky creatures. I loved the world Julie created and I’m lookinf forward to Deja Blue, the second installment in the series! Yey!

Ruby Blue is waking up to her first day of summer break. A summer break spent with her friends, 2 who happen to be fairies, and try to earn some money to get a car. The first day of summer seems to be going great. She is getting to hang out at the lake and FINALLY gets noticed by hottie Nick. Yep, this summer is starting out quite peachy for Ruby. Unfortunately, things start getting weird in her small town. Ruby soon learns that the Fae hold some very interesting secrets...some which have escaped out into Ruby's world. Can she help her Fae friends stop this evil or will her summer be ruined before it even gets a chance to start?

This story was a fun read for me. I really enjoyed the whole storyline that revolves around a girl who has the 'sight' to see fairies. A girl who has a very funny inner monologue going on throughout the book; A girl who a lot of girls can relate to. She is just your average girl that loves to hang out with her friends but gets a little tongue tied when it comes to her crush. She is fun and doesn't irk you like some characters in YA books can. I found her to be very amusing.

Now I didn’t really connect with all the characters like I do with some books, but they were fun none the less. And like I said earlier, I found Ruby’s inner monologue to be a hoot. She is definitely your typical-gotta have the last word, if not thought-teenager. Yeah I saw a little of myself at that age in her.

I just adore me a good fairy read and Ruby Blue was just that. Not a lot of heavy drama in it, which was a nice change for me. I enjoy a book every now and then that is quick and light and keeps my interest. I love that the story continues on with more adventures for Ruby and her friends in Deja Blue. So pick out a comfy spot to read and grab Ruby Blue…you will soon become a fan of Julie Casser & Ruby just like me.

I received this book from the author in exchange for an honest review.

This is a fun YA fantasy book about a 17 yr old girl Ruby, who can see faeries. She has an adventuresome summer with her gay goth best friend, Jeremy and her two faerie friends, Anya and Brennan. She falls in love with Mr. Hotness, the cute, blond, popular surfer like dude and goes dragon hunting to boot.

I love the character of Ruby. She is hilariously funny and I was endeared to her within the first few pages of this book. And Jeremy is the best sidekick ever. I like that this book is just some nice good clean fun reading. It has humor and adventure without being all dark and scary; a nice break from the vampire, werewolf, demon trend that's going on right now.

I also like how I can relate to the references Julie uses, she has to be from the upper midwest as I'm sure not many people say pop for a soda and Dairy Queen is a local institution up here! There are plenty of pop culture references including Harry Potter, P.C Cast's House of Night, Dawson's Creek, Wizard of Oz, Scooby Doo, and Rambo, that all make this story relevant to the current time.

This is a wonderful, delightful story and I encourage you to read it. I just wish it was longer, but that's what the second book is for! WaAr

I was given this book by the author for an honest review.
I loved this book, can't wait to get started on book two (just waiting for the kindle to charge)
This story is about a average girl named Ruby. Well, she thinks she is average, but she can see fairies. For 12 years she is friends with a brother and sister fairies and they come to the human world to hang out with her and her other friends. They are able to become human for just a little bit.
But one summer things happen and Ruby learns more about her fairy friends. First, Ruby sees something in the lake. Second, a Christmas tree farm catches on fire. Then, after a storm, all the boats in the marina are flipped over. But Anya and Brennan tell Ruby it was really a dragon that escaped from Fey. Oh, and Anya & Brennan are actually fairy royalty!!
This is categorized as YA, but as an adult I loved it. It was cute, funny, and had a little bit of (teen)romance. And my favorite part, Harry Potter references!
I didn't want to put this book down and as soon as my kindle is charged I am reading book 2.
This is more like 4 1/2 stars!
This book is great! I would recommend to teens, YA and adults

My point of view:
Ruby Blue is a very beautiful book which I enjoyed ever since I have heard of it!
Ruby is a ice-cream and converse loving teenager which has the ability to see... fairies :D Her best friends are Anya and Brennan, two lovely fairies which are always by her side.
Even thou her life is full of magic this does not stop her to live a normal life with her parents and brother. She is a teenager like any other, she falls in love with the most beautiful guy and she has as many emotions as everybody.
I loved the funny dialogues in the book which blend nicely with the magic inside!
I recommend this book to children, teenagers and not only! It is a funny reading, full of emotion and the friendship between Ruby and fairies is a really strong one, making you want something like that!
Really awesome book and the cover is really beautiful!!! I love those magical colours Julie used. They remind me of fireflies in a jar <3

A review of Ruby Blue by Julie Cassar

I would definitely recommend this as a YA read - it has a good dose of sweetness and an appropriate hint of sassy spice.

I've had the privilege of broadening my horizons and reading many YA books lately and there are many, more more available for purchase or free on kindle. However, this read was captivating. I adored the main character and how she adjusts to human life whilst living with her unique gift - that of seeing faeries. I also found the secondary characters to be sweet and appropriately sassy.

I can see teenagers loving this book, having been one of those in the distant past. And anyone with a romantic heart would appreciate the aspirations of the main character and the school's 'hot guy'.

Furthermore, the characters are quite real, despite the fantastical nature of the story. They're characters that I think many a teenager would be able to relate to.

Ruby is average teenage girl..except for one thing she can see faeries, Anya and Brennan. She has the biggest crush on Nick, Mr. Hotness himself. So, when Nick ask her out what can possibly go wrong..

So these are my two cents: At first I was not convinced about a 17 yr old seeing faeries. But Cassar managed to make up world of make believe mix it with day to day real life experiences. I found Ruby to be delightful and funny.. A bit obsessed with her converse. But don't we all obsess about something. Ruby actually got butterflies when Nick kissed her. I found this really sweet. Jeremy her best friend who just happens to like boys & Faery royalty Anya & Brennan made this book funny, enjoyable and most of all magical.

A great read for every one.

Ruby Blue is a normal 17-year-old teenager who loves ice cream, has a mother obssessed with The Wizard of Oz, has 2 best friends, and is the only one in her family that can see fairies.

This little story is delightful, fun, fresh, and a perfect MUST read that I finished in only 2 hours. The flow of the story is fabulous and the characters are strong. When I started reading, I automatically fell in love with Ruby and had to keep reading to find out more and then POOF I was at the end!! I am SO ready for Deja Blue!!

I was given this book in return for an honest review. 17 year old Ruby can see fairies, as a matter of fact, two of her closest friends are fairies. Her best friend, Jeremy doesn't know her secret, not does anyone else. Strange things are happening in her town something's in the lake, mysterious fires, boats tipped over. Ruby,Jeremy, and her fairie friends, Anya & Brennan have to find out what's causing all the trouble and figure our how to stop it. During all of this, Ruby is also juggling a new love interest. Has some cute Wizard of Oz references and is very descriptive. You will be left wondering what kind of misadventure these kids are going to get into next.

I received this book from the author to give an honest review.

What can I say? Where do I start? This book was absolutely an amazing read for me. The author was able to capture the language of a teenager perfectly in my opinion. The way Ruby and Jeremy talked I actually could visualize going back about 7 or 8 years and seeing me and my friends talk the same way. I fell in love with Ruby because it seemed anything she had to say or what she would do was funny. And the way she would blush around Mr. Hotness a.k.a Nick the hot throb that she has a crush on and ends up going on a couple of dates with.
Nick was a real gentleman in this book, I loved how he never rushed anything with Ruby and when he surprised her with flowers. Not just regular same ol' flowers that every girl seems to get, but white peonies that are a symbol of luck and happiness.

Ruby Blue starts off with her explaining a bit about herself, how she got her name and a bit about her life. She has been able to see faeries since she was five, and loves to garden since her mom got her into it at an early age pulling weeds. She has a best friend named Jeremy who is gay and I love how his character is portrayed in this book. The relationship between Ruby and Jeremy is a great friendship that I can see in real life. Ruby also has her two faerie friends that she has been friends with for 12 years and has been able to keep their secret of them being faeries from her best friend and her family. Anya and Brennan can live among the humans for a long time but have to regenerate their power from the Earth and plants.

Ruby Blue takes place over the summer with teenage love happening, secrets being put out in the open (nothing that will have you saying OMG how could that have been a secret) just regular secrets, and a magical adventure. Where they will have to send a dragon back to the Fey (where the faeries live) and something happens to Ruby which I believe we will find out more in book 2.

This book is a perfect YA read. If you enjoy reading about faeries, a little teenage love, magic, adventure then I highly recommend you pick this book up and give it a read. I don't think you would be disappointed.

One of my favorite words that I read and I think I might end up catching myself say it was the word "craptasic" I have never heard of it used before. Here is how it was used in one of the sentences from the book. Page 76 "Ahhh craptasic! Just what we need. More destruction around here."

Ruby Blue
by Julie Cassar (ŷ Author)

Synopsis from ŷ

"Meet Ruby. She’s your average (somewhat dorky) ice-cream eating, garden-loving teenager, who is constantly being annoyed by her little brother, is best friends with possibly the only Goth kid in town and, oh yeah…she sees fairies.

After Nick Martino (possibly the hottest guy she’s ever known) finally asks her out, she can barely manage a two-word sentence when a bizarre incident strikes their lakeside town. Stumbling bare-foot through some interesting dates, will she ever find love? And what does Ruby do when more strange events continue to occur? Will she keep her gift of Fairy Sight a secret? As an ancient myth unfolds and new mystic fairy tales come to life, Ruby and her menagerie of friends tackle some extraordinary circumstances with her very ordinary abilities in this modern day fairy tale. See what legends come to life in “Ruby Blue, a young adult fantasy fiction novel and the first installment of the Ruby Blue series."

What can I say! The other oodles of folks were definitely not wrong in their rating this book a five star read. I love Ruby. I love the childhood she had growing up being able to see fairies and never thinking there was anything odd or different about that. I loved that she was able to have lifelong friendships that only become more cemented as trouble comes. I love ice cream and the awesome part it plays in this fun read! I love the first bloom of love that comes to Ruby and how she handles all of those exciting feelings while juggling the perils that she is about to face. The adventure was great as Ruby and the gang have to go out and save the day and oh what an adventure it is. This was a fun read and kept me entertained throughout the entire book and by the time I finished I was ready for the next installment. I would recommend this book to young adult and adult readers who enjoy a fun sweet story that leaves you satisfied at the end and looking forward to the next adventure.
I requested this book from the author to read and review and it was provided to me with a request for my honest opinion without any compensation whatsoever, other than the joy of reading a new book.

Meet Ruby. She’s your average (somewhat dorky) ice-cream eating, garden-loving teenager, who is constantly being annoyed by her little brother, is best friends with possibly the only Goth kid in town and, oh yeah…she sees fairies.

After Nick Martino (possibly the hottest guy she’s ever known) finally asks her out, she can barely manage a two-word sentence when a bizarre incident strikes their lakeside town.Stumbling bare-foot through some interesting dates, will she ever find love? And what does Ruby do when more strange events continue to occur? Will she keep her gift of Fairy Sight a secret? As an ancient myth unfolds and new mystic fairy tales come to life, Ruby and her menagerie of friends tackle some extraordinary circumstances with her very ordinary abilities in this modern day fairy tale. See what legends come to life in “Ruby Blue, a young adult fantasy fiction novel and the first installment of the Ruby Blue series.

First, let me sat that I absolutely love the main character Ruby!! Cassar did an excellent job of making her completely relatable to us average gals! Plus, I have a serious addiction to ice cream also so that dfinetly helped! Lol! I loved how she reminded me of what it was like to have that first major teenage crush!! She literally made me feel 17 again & that is some serious amazing writing!!
I also really appreciated how she showed fairies in a completely different light than most books about fairies. She didn't portray them as cruel & heartless by nature but as happy & carefree. Anya & Brennan were essentially ruby's best friends & would do anything to protect her. It was refreshing to read about an amazing 12 year friendship between fairies & a human rather than fairies stealing human children & using them as their play things.
All in all, this was a very enjoyable book with friendship, romance, and a little adventure! I had absolutely no problem picturing every scene in my mind while reading thanks to Cassar's incredible writing & ability to tell as tory so well!! I look forward to reading Deja Blue, the sequel, and the other 2, possibly 3 , books in this series!! :D

Updated to include an Audiobook Review:

This is the first book in a fantastic YA fantasy series. I loved it!

Ruby Blue is a fantastic character. I really liked her. Ruby is seventeen years old, though she comes across as younger. She is a typical teen, a little angst-y, with an addiction to Converse shoes and ice-cream, but her ability to see fairies is what sets her apart. Her fairy friends are Anya and Brennan; they have been friends since Ruby was five.

I originally read and reviewed this book in 2012. When I heard that it had been made into an audiobook in April this year, I became excited and decided to download it to see if it was as good as I remembered. It was. The audiobook is narrated by Mysti Jording, who did an excellent job in giving Ruby and the other characters a voice. She has a young, pleasant voice that suited the tone of the story.

I became hooked into the story once more. I had forgotten how much I had enjoyed meeting Anya, Brennan and Jeremy for the first time. The story takes the reader on an adventure full of action and danger, with drama and romance aplenty in this book, as well as splashes of humour that kept me giggling. I must admit that by listening to the story, I was able to sit back and relax, though still feel a part of it. Ruby Blue is a magical fantasy complete with a rogue dragon and fizz popping fairies. The story ended all too soon for me and I am now looking forward to listening to the second book, Deja Blue once it becomes available in audiobook format too.

Julie Cassar is one of my favourite authors, and I will read any of her books in the future. Her characters are very lifelike and virtually leap off the page. I also love her fast paced writing style, which seems to flow effortlessly from scene to scene.

I HIGHLY recommend this book (and series) to teens aged 15 up and adults who love YA romances or fantasy genres. However, some adults may find this book too young for them. - Lynn Worton

First I just want to thank Julie for sending me this fantastic book. I was in a reading funk when she kindly offered to send me her book. I decided to pick it up the other day and I didn't expect to read it within the matter of hours. It was a perfect read that flowed wonderfully.

Ruby Blue follows seventeen year Ruby, a normal girl who loves ice cream and oh yeah, she can see Fairies. Ruby tries to balance her normal life and this gift but having two best friends one that is a normal human and one that is a fairy is hard. Especially when a dragon from Fey enters her world and with the help of her friends she must stop the dragon before it destroys her town.

Ruby is one of those characters who you can instantly connect with. She is a normal teen girl who is smart and funny but with this extra ability to see fairies. Which us kinda cool. And she is very loyal, she knows that fairies exist yet she won't betray them, not even to tell her best friend. She is also very brave, she tackles the dragon situation head where if it was me I would be running in the opposite direction. lol.

The story itself flows perfectly. It has the right amount of magical fairy element, romance, action and humour that completely enthralled me. Usually I'm not a huge fan of fairies but Julie has such a way with her words that has me hooked. There is a perfect balance between reality and fantasy that not many authors can create.

I highly recommend this to anyone who likes a quick, wonderful and cute story filled with romance, friendships, fairies and dragons. You will not be disappointed!!!

It's impossible not to give five stars for this amazing book. Julie is a genius and I love her. She wrote the perfect story with fairies and teenagers. I haven't read so many books with fairies because I never liked them so much. But now , after I read ''Ruby Blue'' I can say : I ADORE THEM!

I started to read ''Ruby Blue '' yesterday and I finished it today. I don't regret nothing. I enjoyed every minute spent reading it.

A little summary:
Ruby Blue is a normal teenager (apparently) and she sees .......fairies. She is dealing with them since she was five. And she actually has two friends who are fairies : Anya and Brennan.
Between her friends and her new boyfriend , Nick Martino (known as Mr. Hotness), something terrible is happening in town.
It seems to be that a dragon escaped from Fey (fairies's world) and Ruby and her friends must figure out how to defeat it.

My favourite character is Ruby. I really like her. Maybe because we have some things in common (ice cream , Converse shoes and nail polish)or maybe because Julie created a funny and smart character. Ruby totally surprised me.
Every character is special and I can't imagine the story without them. They made me nervous , they made me laugh and they made me smile.

This book has everything you want: action, romance , adventure and suspense.I loved the ending , but I want to know what happens next in ''Deja Blue''.
All I can say about ''Ruby Blue'' is that it is the perfect book for summer .
Like I already said , Julie wrote an amazing book and she is definitely one of my favourite authors.

This is amazing written book by Julie Cassar about Ruby who looks like your typical teenager who loves ice cream, nail polish and converse shoes. She has a secret that she can see fairies. Since age 5 she can see and talk to them but hasn't told a soul except Brennan and Anya wh are fairies who turn into humans. They are best friends along with Jeremy who is gay and being named after the Wizard of Oz she tries to a normal teen looking for love. As Ruby finds Nick the hunky guy and tries for a normal relationship. But as things begin shift with unexplained fires and siting of a huge bird. As Brennan and Anya finally tell her their most guarded secret and as they bring Jeremy into the group the find them selves face to face with a dragon that has come through a portal. As they try to get things back to normal. Then things go from OK to now Ruby can her fairies in her head and understand their language. Where will this take Ruby and her friends? I really thought this was awesome book and I can't wait to read the next book in series about Ruby and her friends and where their next adventure will take them. So if u need a book to read pick up Ruby Blue.

My review of Ruby Blue by Julie Cassar

Rating5

This book was provided free by the author in exchange for honest literary review.

Ruby is not your average 17 year-old. First, she's named after Dorothy's slippers in the Wizard of Oz. Her best friend is Jeremy who is a flamboyant gay but goth teen. Lastly, Ruby can talk to fairies. Her best friend Anya is a fairy who spends time on our dimension and back in the land of the fey as well.
Ruby goes through many twists and turns of a normal teen. She's saving to buy a car. She pines for a dreamy guy named Nick who has suddenly shown interest in her as well. Things are starting to get a bit more exciting for Ruby, and she couldn't be happier . That is until a strange flying creature threatens to take over the town and distroy anything in its path.
This is a light, fast paced read. You cant help but like Ruby's honest wholesome demeanor. She's slightly unsure, verbally stumbling at times. There is a fair amount of action, but it resolves fairly quickly. I thought the ending was very good without being a huge cliffhanger. I loved that. The flow is wonderful and the author managed to tie up the loose ends at the end. Also my props go to the addition of a gay character. His humor had me in tears at times. Overall a very good first book of this series. I am looking forward to reading book two.......
