Just when things were settling down in Hartland, a new threat to the town emerges. Fires are destroying lives as an arsonist has targeted the residents. The Hartland Fire Department will fight the flames, but will it be enough?
Caleb Doherty was devastated when his last boyfriend had only used him to throw off suspicion that he was one of the Hartland vigilantes. Refusing to get involved with anyone else, Caleb did his best to ignore Nate Larsen, an Alpha who, no matter how hard Caleb tried, he couldn’t stop being drawn to.
Nate Larsen had put himself in debt to follow his dream of opening his own fitness center. It wasn’t big, but it contained everything needed for anyone who enjoyed working out as much as he did. There was only one thing missing in his life, an Omega of his very own. Unfortunately, the one he wanted, Caleb Doherty, wouldn’t give him the time of day. Then his world ends when an arsonist targets him. When Caleb offered him a place to stay, the world looked a lot brighter.
Will Caleb and Nate find their way to each other? Or will an arsonist’s destruction destroy any chance of them being together?

This was book 1 in the "Hartland Fire Dept." series. This was a short quick read that I liked. Alpha Nate is a personal trainer with his own gym he is sick of his clients complaining about not losing weight but they won't change there diets. While at work he smells smoke and realizes that the building is on fire. Nate is devastated and to make matters worse while talking to the fire investigator someone throws Molotov cocktail throw his window and burns his house down. Caleb is an omega fire fighter who has sworn off Alphas after his last boyfriend used him he turned out to be a killer in "Heartland PD" series. Caleb offers Nate a place to stay these two hook up but Caleb goes into heat. The team thinks that Nate was targeted its an arsonist on the loose. I loved that the team was there for them they are a family and I am looking forward to reading more about them. This book was well written with no errors in grammar or spelling. I am looking forward to reading the next book in this series.
I'm so flustered that there's no resolution to the arson in this book or mention of the investigation continuing into the next book. The mystery of who's trying to kill Nate just disappeared at a certain point in the book and it no longer mattered. Oh well...
Nate is a gym owner who has been questioning if he should change careers or try to change it into his original dream for the place. Suddenly he becomes the target of an arsonist who seems to want him dead. He loses his gym and his home to fires within a week and he was inside both locations when the fires started. He now has nowhere to go and no money to start again. Nate has always had a thing for Caleb but was ignored at every turn.
Caleb has been manipulated in his previous relationships and has sworn off Alphas all together. He's always had a thing for Nate but was too afraid to accept those feelings. He comes to Nate's aid when he needs him most and everything changes from there.
I really liked this story. It was a cute palette cleanser for me after a pretty dark read. The couple was adorable 🥰 their was an overreaching plot that wasn't cleared up by the end. The mystery is still a myster. But we did get to meet the baby, so I'm not upset at that. We also got the start of the relationship and their plans. I really had an issue with the pet name green eyes. It was so cringe and pulled me out of the story every time I read it 😅 I also hated the term omega hole. I could have done without that but it clearly didn't keep me from finishing it.
I did like these characters and the story itself is good. We still don’t know who the arsonist is but Caleb and Nate do have their HEA. It takes them both some time to get past their reservations, especially Caleb, but who can blame him? I haven’t read any of the other books set in this world but that didn’t stop me enjoying this one.
Caleb had sworn off of men particularly alphas because for his past relationships. Nate had seen Caleb and the spark of want turned onto a flame. It doesn't become real until Nate's business and home is burned down by an arsonist. Caleb offers Nate a place to stay a and the fire begins.
Caleb tried to avoid Nate in spite of his attraction to the alpha because of past trauma. When Nate's gym is torched, they are thrown together and start a fire of their own. This is kind of like a TV movie. However, the mystery of the arsonist has apparently been put off into future volumes in the series.
As a lover of Mpreg mm romance, this story does not disappoint. l8vevthe characters, the storyline, and of course the HEA. it could have done with being a bit longer as some of the plot seemed a bit rushed and not completed in my view, but I take it I will just have to read more of the series for some of the plot to evolve, oh such hardship.
This was insta everything: insta love, insta pregnancy, insta marriage. And then the other part of the story, the investigation into who burned down Nate's home and business, was left unresolved. Very unsatisfying.
Balik's story of a firefighter omega and a fitness trainer alpha is compact. Fires bring them together, but a heat unites them. The MCs get the focus and are fun to follow. The author leave one issue hanging, perhaps to resolve later in the series.
