Historian Emilie Crosse dreamed of a love that would last forever
Who knew she'd have to sail across two centuries to find it?

When her ex-husband Zane Grey Rutledge showed up at her door with a Revolutionary War uniform that was part of his grandmother's estate, neither one suspected that their lives were about to change in ways they couldn't possibly imagine.

Swept back in time to 1776 where a nation is struggling to be born, Emilie finds herself torn between two men: Zane, her ex who still holds the key to her heart, and Andrew McVie, the Patriot hero of her long-ago dreams . . . .

Great history and love story

I truly enjoyed the story of Zane, Emilie and Andrew. All three were wonderful rich characters. The time travel was wonderfully told. They all adjusted to that aspect as well as you could expect. The future was handled so neatly it about drive Andrew crazy.

The love of history made Emilie the perfect candidate to travel back to the revolutionary war era. The author really wove in some great moments to make it even more alive. It was a great read. I want to read the other stories about the secondary characters.

There could be a continuation to this book with a character from the past that goes to the present...

Found this book a little boring, but it kept me interested enough to at least finish it. The two main characters, Emily and Zane Grey (yes, from the western author) had been divorced 5 years when Zane's grandmother dies and leaves him the family estate, which he promptly sells. Zane is bitter and not interested in history or his heritage. He takes an old uniform to Emily to "evaluate" though. Emily has become a well-known historical authenticator. She loves history.

Of course, the couple was still very attracted to each other. They just couldn't get a long. Constantly argued. Did enjoy some of Emily's one-liners, though. One time when Zane answered her question by grunting, she said, "Grunt once for yes, and twice for no."

One thing led to another and they ended up back in time to their history via a hot air balloon. The book really dragged here when all the convincing each other, then others, that they had indeed gone back in time. More arguing.

A Potpourri of Emotions

This is undoubtedly one of the finest and most unusual Time Travel books I have ever read. Barbara Bretton kept the language and mores of the people living over two hundred years ago, and did it with ease. What makes it so unusual is that although it is a Time Travel book, it also combines the genres of Historical Fiction (the Revolutionary War),and Romance. Further, the author imbued the characters with such detail that her exquisitely penetrating studies allow the reader to become familiar with everyone quickly and with great ease. Inasmuch as the only time I have to read is before going to sleep, I found myself watching the clock, eagerly awaiting bedtime in order to get back to this splendid book.

Kudos to Ms. Bretton, an excellent writer.

This was a wonderful story. The first book I've read in a while that left me in tears and saying, "Wow. Just Wow." Love the H and h, the story had so many threads that the author skillfully connected at the end, and I loved the history. I didn't know much about the Revolutionary War period, so the details kept my attention - and she skillfully wove them into the plot. Normally I don't enjoy time travel books, but this one was realistically done (lol for a concept that is impossible). Will definitely check out her other books. I don't know what those 1 and 2 star reviews are about - this book is solid, well written, and very enjoyable. Kudos to Barbara.

4 Stars. This story had love, time-travel and historical content. The beginning was enjoyable, then the story slowed a little, largely due to the 'telling' of parts of history. However, the story picked up again and continued to be exciting and interesting. I was somewhat disappointed with the ending but as the novel is part of a series, I wouldn't hesitate to read more from this author.

Got this as a free download from Amazon sometime back. It was somewhat enjoyable. Emilie and Zane - exes who while trying to figure out what they mean to each other somehow get picked-up up in a time storm and end up in the late 1770's. Emilie who is a historian of sorts is somewhat loving it especially when she meets her hero Andrew McVie but her exhubby is not too thrilled- he was supposed to be on his way to Tahiti- preferably with Emilie not stuck in backwoods New Jersey with no modern conveniences, a broken arm and the love of his life mooning over a man of her stories....They tell Andrew where they are from - and he believes it. He is part of a spy ring - ends up pulling Zane in .

Favorite quotes
"Playing it safe has killed more people than craziness ever could."
"There's always a choice, ... Don't think otherwise."
"You must love your husband for who and what he is, ..., not for what you wish him to be."

cookiereads Somewhere in Time by Barbara Breton 👩‍❤️‍💋‍
Emilie Crosse is a historian specializing in colonial times. Zane Grey Rutledge is a free spirit of sorts; he also comes from a family dating back to colonial times. Oh Zane and Emilie used to be married but the fire is still there! 🔥
One day he shows up at Emilie’s with a revolutionary uniform inherited from his grandmother. Emilie feels a strong connection to this uniform. What little did they know that they were about the time travel to 1776 in the middle of the war of independence!!! Emilie and Zane meet Andrew McVie. Emilie also feels a strong connection to Andrew as well..What will happen? Can Emilie and Zane return to their own time? What about Andrew? 👩‍❤️‍💋‍
Calling all Outlander fans!!! This book kinda has an #outlander feel to it. Andrew McVie is Irish; he refers to Emilie as “lass. This was a really quick read for any fans of Outlander who are eagerly awaiting the release of the #outlanderbook9 !!

I read this book as a recommendation on a readers group forum. I was looking for a book I read in about 1998 or 1999 about a time travel romance. In the book I read, the woman fell through a wall or closet in the house & ended in colonial times where she falls in love and has to decide between two worlds. This wasn’t that book.
This is a very quick and light read and I enjoyed it but I didn’t love it. First of all, I enjoy historicals for the history and much of that was fictional in this book. Secondly, I didn’t really like either hero. They both left much to be desired in my opinion. Third, the ending was unbelievable; and not in a wow way but in a yea whatever way. I don’t want to give anything up but this gets three stars because I did enjoy it but there wasn’t enough here to make it memorable for me.

A wonderful time travel romance!
Married and divorced a few years later, Zane and Em still have that powerful connection. Unfortunately they want different things in life...hence why Em left Zane. After Zane’s grandmother dies he finds himself still on that same road, always looking for that death defying thrill, never staying in the same place long. Once business is concluded Zane makes one stop before heading to Tahiti, he calls on Em and fate steps in. They find themselves on the most exciting adventure of their life, back in the 18th Century.
A great read, now to start the next book.

This is the first time I read Barbara Bretton and I definitely enjoyed it. She has blended romance and time travel with a touch of historical fiction to create an entertaining story. I just couldn't stop reading because I was eager to find out how it will end. I guarantee you'll find the same pleasure from reading this book..

great story

I love time travel books, and this one did not disappoint. Enough suspense was woven throughout the story that I was kept guessing how it was going to come out. Well fleshed out characters. Good descriptions of times past. And it was a treat to read an ebook not full of punctuation and spelling errors.

Time Travel

This stories premise was interesting, but I found the characters to be a little flat. Adding in more historical facts within the fictional events would have led me to believe in the story more. Over all it’s well written.

This book was awful, full stop. I regret reading it so much. The worst part is that my wife read it out loud to me over a roadtrip, so Kat had to suffer through the inane protagonists with me. I'm sorry, my love.

I hate it when authors make characters do things that do not make sense just to move the plot in the way they want. The ending is a perfect example of this! I had to stop reading for a while I was so mad/annoyed!
