With seven billion people on the planet, it was only a matter of time before someone discovered the origins of mankind.
_____________________________
Legends myths and religions called them by many names. One group was our protector, the other an enemy. Both knew the secret of human origins. Both had different agendas. Both remained undisclosed until now.

Living in Los Alamos, New Mexico, a small town already shrouded in secrecy, disappearances and the unusual, teenager Travis Marshall's life spirals out of control after a sudden and horrendous tragedy.

One year later, when tragedy strikes again and this time his father, a molecular biologist at the illustrious Los Alamos Laboratories mysteriously vanishes and his own life is put in jeopardy, Travis discovers more than the truth behind his disappearance.

In a race against time and aided by an unusual band of outsiders, he finds himself thrust into a dangerous game of cat and mouse in which the outcome could change everything. Beneath a blanket of ancient lies, global cover-ups and genetic tampering he's about to uncover not only the origins of mankind, but also come face to face with those who threaten the fate of the human race.

The answers to the greatest questions of all time have never been as terrifying, exciting or troubling.

Like X-files for teens, by the time you are done reading, you will want to believe.

The Good: Great story, fast paced, lots of action, characters that make you care for them. I really liked Travis and his best friend Ryan.

The Bad: I'm not sure whether this was due to erratic formatting, but the punctuation and somewhat haphazard sentence structures got to me. I found them increasingly distracting and was actively looking out for them at one stage. There were also some lulls in the book that did not move the story forward (for e.g. I didn't mind reading a bit about the main character's school life but did not need to know that much detail).

Conclusion: Fantastic start to a promising series!

UPDATE: I originally gave this a 3-4 star. I have since gotten my hands on a new corrected version with none of the Bad and am thrilled to be able to give it a 5 star!

Cute, young adult, science fiction story.
Reminded me of the TV series Roswell mixed with the TV series Angel. Action, teen romance, teen angst and super-powered teen (aliens) who fight the save the world and humanity from ‘evil aliens. :-)
The plot premise was entertaining, yet the bulk of the story was simply too ‘Young Adult for me.

Not too long ago, I was approached by author Jon Mills regarding his book Undisclosed. I read the synopsis and was definitely intrigued. The prologue begins:

“Will Marshall was a recent graduate of Los Alamos High School, and unlike others, everything was going according to plan. He had it all, a stunning girlfriend, a scholarship to the University of California, Santa Barbara, and the opportunity to follow in the footsteps of his Nobel Prize-winning father, who worked at the illustrious Los Alamos Laboratories. There were no doubts for him: his was a life full of promise and accolades; at least that’s what he’d been told. But they hadn’t factored in this he would die on these dark, gravel back roads.

BAM! What a start to an awesome book!!! This paragraph and the rest of the prologue set the tone for this fast-paced, suspenseful sci-fi/paranormal read. It is very different from what I’ve been reading lately and I could not put it down. From start to finish, the plot unfolded perfectly with plenty of twists and turns.

Scott Marshall is a biologist that works for Los Alamos National Laboratories (LANL). He’s also a Nobel-Prize winner.

“Scott Marshall was the sort of man who always looked as if he was stumped by some complex math equation; he didn’t resemble what most would imagine a molecular biologist would look like.

His son Travis is sort of a screw-up trying to find his way out from under his deceased brother’s shadow and doing his best to hold his mother together after his parents separation. When he and his father get into a car crash one night, his dad disappears and a series of events are set in motion that can’t be controlled.

Myths are exposed as truths and the world around Travis shifts into a new, dangerous place

Travis is an overwhelmingly likeable protagonist. He is a smart ass, but sensitive, loyal, and cautious. Supporting characters add a whole other level of complexity and depth to the story. I won’t give anything away, but I will say that Jayde, Lincoln, and Ty are favorites of mine. Mason is a bit harder to like, understandably so. Either way, the Guardians and the Watchers are well developed and easy to love—or hate accordingly. What are Guardians and Watchers, you ask? You’ll have to read the book and find out!

The world of Los Alamos is beautifully built. I have never been out west, but I could clearly picture everything from the town to the people, the labs, and The Black Hole. Mills does a great job of describing everything in detail and paints a vivid picture of the quiet, dusty town. In addition to that, his writing is clear and easy to read. The story is certainly engaging and kept me reading well into the night.

“How many others had lost their lives in what seemed like such a senseless hidden war, a power struggle that did nothing more than turn brothers against sisters, fathers against sons, and for what? Progress? Pride? Honor? It all seemed so meaningless if it meant losing the ones you loved, Travis thought.

As most of you know, I don’t need much of a love story woven into my books, but I do need at least the hope of one. While it is definitely not the focus in Undisclosed, there is a teensy weensy little relationship that made me smile and I’m hoping the next book builds on what I’ve read so far.

Ultimately, Undisclosed is just what I needed to remind me why I love sci-fi reads so much. There are unlikely heroes to root for, bad-ass villains, a silent battle raging on without human notice, and pulse-pounding action sequences—it was awesome! If you are a sci-fi/paranormal fan and are looking for an exciting read, make sure to check out Undisclosed. Be forewarned that this book does end on a bit of a cliffhanger; I’ve been thinking about all the possibilities for the next book since I finished it. Get ready... this series is going to get better and better as the story unfolds and I can’t wait to be a part of it!

I was given this book from the author in exchange for an honest review.

Loved this book!! It did start out a little slow for me but as you keep reading the story just sucks you in. The story redefines how humanity came about and also gives the world another great enemy to watch out for. I give the book 4 stars.

The storyline in this book was really enjoyable. Like I said it was a little slow in the beginning chapters but then the action really takes off once you get further into the story. There was a lot in this story to offer: mystery, murder, abductions, genetic experiments, supernatural powers and aliens.

The characters in this story were well developed and understandable. Travis grows as the story moves along. He is thrust into his father’s world who works as a geneticist in the local laboratory. His older brother, Will, was supposed to follow in his father’s footsteps but was killed in a car accident the year before. The new friends that Travis meets have unusual powers but as he is pulled further into their world he discovers that they are not the only ones. I also liked the fact that the author left Travis’s best friend Ryan in the story. He stood by his friend even though the odds were against them and most other people would have run for the hills.

By the end of the book I was more than ready to read the next one. I can’t wait to see how Travis handles the next hurdle in his life or where it takes him. This was a great start to a new series.

*I received the book free from author in return for an honest review.*

This was not what I expected. To be honest, I wanted a bit more of an 'alien' feel. This story, while certainly not bad, was more on the superhero side. X-men and the likes might come to mind.

Mr. Mills worked hard developing his characters. Yet, I couldn't relate to any. Still, I have to give him credit: Travis was a fun character to follow. He had a good heart. His trouble with the law only made him more human.

Now, I love aliens, and I love superheroes. So why wasn't I captivated by the story? I have no idea. I wanted to though. My problem could be that I am not a fan of YA to begin with. Or it could be that we didn't have enough insight to what the 'bad guys' were after. We discover it at the end but it may have been more appealing if we'd have a hint or two before then.

In Undisclosed by Jon Mills, Travis, the son of a very successful molecular biologist, lives in the shadow of his older brother and his father. His family lives in a mysterious town of Los Alamos, New Mexico where disappearances and strange sightings are a regular occurrence. Travis's brother Will is projected to be the next version of his father even though his first love is moto-cross. Suddenly, Will turns into one of the regular disappearance stories they have all gotten used too. This tears Travis's family apart and his mother and father get a divorce. Travis turns into a trouble maker and his father just constantly reminds him that that wasn't what Will would do. A year after Will's disappearance, while Travis was driving home with his father from his moms coffee shop, a man with pitch black eyes steps in front of his fathers truck and they may as well have hit a wall. Travis was extremely disoriented and on the edge of consciousness but he saw the same man with the black eyes rip the door of the driver side of the truck and he took his dad while Travis sat there helplessly. Then he heard the man and someone else before talking before a girls voice interrupted and then panic erupted. That is the last thing he remembers of that night. He woke up in the hospital a day later to see his mom asleep in the chair next to him. The doctor walks in once him and his mom are done talking and informs him that he only had a small concussion and they want to keep him in the hospital overnight to run a few more tests. After hearing this news, Travis's mother returns home. He showers and then looks for the ice machine and gets lost in the hospital. During his search for ice, men on the first floor ask the secretary what room Travis is staying in. She tells the strange men the room number and they brush past her without a word. The security guard stops them as three other men sneak up the stairwell without being noticed. Travis, returning victoriously to the elevator with the coveted ice, sees two figures walking down the hallway towards him. he closes the elevator and then walks down the hall to his room. He is stopped by the same girl that he heard talking the night of the crash. The strange men find them and their eyes turn black like the man that stopped his fathers truck. Then the girl and her friends eyes change to black as well and an intense fight breaks out with fireballs coming from the girls two friends and the strange men swat them with invisible fists. The girls two friends, Lincoln and Mason, take him back to their base and explain that Lincoln, Mason, and the girl, Jayde are called guardians and the other men were watchers and they are in a secret war and that Travis's father had some very important information for them. Travis then goes home after refusing to help them, and tries to live his life normally. He then remembers that he has his fathers phone since he was using it when they crashed. He rings it to his friend Ryan's house who is a tech wiz to break the encryption on the folders in his fathers phone. While in school, after his life has been relatively normal for a short while, more watchers show up at school and Jayde gets him out of there. He then trusts them and he finds out that the company his father worked for is the base of the watchers and those people are almost all very evil, running genetic tests on humans to try to unlock all of the unknown strands of DNA and that will make them watchers. These tests usually leave the subject in a catatonic state that can't be reversed. His father was trying to help the guardians shut it down because they were close to making an entire army of watchers. Travis and his friends go to battle with the watchers after Lincoln dies and Travis is injected with a very deadly poison that will kill him in less than eight hours. He ends dying in the fight but his father bring him back to life with a working serum that gives him the powers of the guardians. Travis also see that his brother has been kidnapped and brainwashed here and doesn't even remember him. Travis's father is murdered by the leader of the watchers but Travis kills the leader just after. The base then explodes and all of Travis's friends make it out but his father. He then has to lie to his mother about everything that happened saying his father dies in a wildfire and he is guilt ridden. Then, Jayde offers for hm to officially join there team and he does.

Undisclosed is the first book in the Undisclosed Trilogy series. This should not be read as a standalone as it ends in a soft cliffhanger for the next book. There is some violence. This book was okay. Nothing spectacular but nothing bad either. Worth reading if you have the time and you like TV shows like Roswell.

You Aren’t What You Thought You Were

Interesting premise filled with ancient mythology about ancient aliens. More than one extraterrestrial race resides on earth: Some are good, some are bad.
A teen is sent into a fray between good and evil. It is not the most original but the writing flows well and the characters are well developed.

Really enjoyed this book by Jon Mills. A little more out of this world than thriller, which is the type of book I usually read, but definitely worth a read anyway. Great characters and storyline

If I come across Book Two, I'd probably give it a go. I had no issues with the writing style. My criteria for "3 Stars" : enjoyable, minimal grammatical errors, decent characters and action. A vacation book.

If you enjoy conspiracy theory, young-adult sci-fi, and/or a quick adventure, then Undisclosed will satisfy your needs. It is a fairly straight, predictable read surround a young kid plagued with honor and intelligence and the need to rebel against authority. So, a fairly typical teen.

The setting - Los Alamos, "a small town already shrouded in secrecy." So yeah, expect some government cover-ups out of the gate. Toss in a bit of genetic manipulation, shadow groups, and the desire to rule over humanity, and you get the gist of this tale.

Although I found this book completely predictable, there were some fun moments. The characters definitely have some back-story to flesh out and there is more to the story. Which is good, since this is Book One of ?.

Mills does conclude the story, so there is a full intro, conflict, and climax. It just leaves off where the story will continue.

A good book clearly written for a young adult audience. From that perspective it's great. I would've been thrilled with it in my teens and probably given it 5 stars. I didn't realise it was a YA book when I first picked it up and after I worked it out I read it anyway. Not so thrilling from an older person's perspective, but still very good. Lots of action, great characters and plot (albeit rather predictable) and a good page turning pace.u

...if you love action, mystery and adventure
...if you love ancient aliens and abductions
...if you love characters with powers and snappy lines
...if you love a story that deals with the origins of mankind
...if you love relationships that will wrench your heart out of your chest and make you feel again

Then this may be one of the most intriguing stories you will read this year.

I expected to discover that this was book one of a series! It had a suitable ending, sequel-able characters and a plot that could continue. Plus, it's a unique mythical set for a series. Behavior was a bit too teen typical but considering the audience, it is a small complaint. If there ends up being a second story, I'd read it.
