Becca Chopra, best-selling author of The Chakra Diaries, takes you on a wild ride as she journeys from aspiring actress to respected yoga teacher and chakra healer in Chakra Secrets: On the Path to Love and Happiness.
Through the betrayals and brutal loss of her husband, the illness of her best friend, and beyond grief and guilt, she explores yoga, meditation, kundalini, tantric sex, macrobiotics, and even past-lives.
She not only shares her personal secrets, but the extraordinary "instant healing" technique she learns in Hawaii from shaman and Huna philosopher, Serge Kahili King, Ph.D.
I am the author of THE CHAKRA ENERGY DIET, THE CHAKRA DIARIES, CHAKRA SECRETS and BALANCE YOUR CHAKRAS, BALANCE YOUR LIFE. When not writing or reading, I'm teaching yoga and meditation, swimming with dolphins on the Big Island, and having fun here in paradise.
I'm inspired to balance my chakras. Her descriptions helped. I find I need work in all my chakras. I applaud the author's honesty in writing about her life. It takes in so many healing modalities, most of which I'm a little familiar with. However, one I was introduced to is Dynamind, something I want to look more into.
When I started reading this book, I thought the first chapter was dramatic, little did I know what was to follow…The events in the story are intense; at times entertaining, at times touching and at other times outright heartbreaking.
It is certainly a book that maintains suspense throughout the kind of book one cannot put down once one starts reading. It also contains interesting descriptions of encounters with yoga, rainbow tantra, tantric gurus, the microbiotic diet, past life regression, acro-yoga, Ho’opono’pono and Huna.
But is wasn’t the storyline, the suspense, the healing modalities or descriptive writing elements that kept me riveted to the screen it was the frankness, the mindfulness and the soul-searching.
It was the realisation that Rebecca’s story is a universal story. It is your story and my story. My life may have been more or less dramatic than hers, but it’s the same story. Moving through the components of loss, betrayal, success, failure, joy, love, grief, guilt and a variety of life experiences, is a river flowing underneath. Rebecca, the author, discovers that deeper river.
A river of friendship, love, forgiveness, self-love and karmic connections across lifetimes runs through this amazing book. We also get a glimpse of a shining star Julie and her experience with cancer. The last chapter effectively concludes the book as Rebecca relates phases of her life to different chakras and describes briefly how chakral healing had assisted her throughout her journey. It also provides a very useful and practical Huna Dynamind technique that one can easily perform at home.
“Julie’s writings from her diary echoed in my head. Whenever I was tempted to grieve, or waste time crying in my pillow (which really couldn’t absorb any more tears), I heard her voice:
‘Untie your own ropes; throw off any feeling that you didn’t do enough, that you’re not good enough or can’t have what you want; instead, live your life to the fullest; love as much as you can; make your mark on the world.’ - Chakra Secrets, p. 159
I highly recommend this book to all Visionary Fiction Lovers!
Still enjoyed it. I thought I would be reading a book about the chakras, but they were a minor player in the story of the author’s life of tragedy that bottoms out as the book begins. I found it enjoyable if a little airy fairy for my taste at times.
1. A cool book for crunchy yoga and chakra lovers.
This book resonated with me because I, too, am a healer who has overcome trauma through chakra work. Chakras are energy centers in the body that embody certain emotions or themes at work in our life.
If this sounds too outlandish, stop now. This book contains description of not only chakras but tantra, macrobiotic, past life regression, meditation, yoga, etc.
Anyone interested in these modalities and how they related to someone's life, read on.
2. A well edited story that is almost too wild to believe. While reading I was very impressed with the pace of the story. The writing was interesting but easy to read. The pages flew by and I completed this book in a weekend.
Chakra Secrets does not hold back! It covers alcoholism, drug use, corrupt teachers, believe-it-or-not soul mates, and lifelong struggle.
It definitely puts the writer in a vulnerable place for the benefit of good for others. Admirable.
3. The end of the book teaches you a healing modality. Finishing off the book is an appendix which explains what the Dynamind Technique is. While reading, it was the only loose end-- a modality I had never heard of.
The technique comes from her teacher in Hawaii and involves tapping on certain parts of the body to release tension anywhere.
I tried it and it worked for me. Couldn't hurt, right?
4. Product advertisements should not be in the middle of a story.
As I read good stories I get grumpy when interrupted.
Especially by advertising grumble grumble. This book advertised two products in the middle of the story, by using links in the footnotes on the same page.
Ads take away from the narrative and are tacky. This may seem like a small things, but it's unheard of. The standard for ebooks is that ads go at the end.
The end already includes information about other products. The ads in the middle irked me and have caused me to give a lower review.
I share so many commonalities with this Author, Writer, Friend. Her writing is magnificent, dynamic, powerful and real. She delivers a strong message of Hope in a whimsical, bright, balanced and colourful splash of wordology not unlike her Chakras, while she encourages me with her soothing intonations to live each moment fully and completely, anew in every minute with each breath; enjoying the ride with relish and childlike wonderment and great abandoned disregard for what others think. I truly try to do this every day while releasing and cleansing the past slate as I fully embrace tomorrow. Ever moving into the Light, the Indigo Light of the present moment. I consider us to be kindred spirits who have made a connection through our writing and by divine guidance, I suppose, as we walk through this Earth journey and it occurs to me that there are no coincidences. We share a passion for Hawaii, the fragrance of the tropical flowers, the Moon, the Ocean, the Dolphins and walk in the Indigo Light of the Kundalini Energy as we ignite and re-ignite the balancing of our Spirit through Chakra work and meditations. As an added bonus, I am able to call her my friend and say her name several times every day Becca great book…well done kiddo!! Namaste’
This book was one of those that sat on my bookshelf a long time—several years. I believe that books find us when we need their message, and the time must have finally been right for me!
This is book is a memoir with a twist, the twist being that the chapters and their content correspond masterfully with the chakras and their wisdom. Although the story (essentially the author's memoir) was, indeed, riveting (had me madly Googling to figure out who the well-known Hollywood characters were), it was not something I would have read were it not interwoven with the chakras, which I am interesting in studying more deeply. While there are, obviously, many books out there that could tell me all about the chakras, this one follows the cardinal rule of fiction (though its non-fiction) by showing, not telling. Something about learning about the chakras through story was immensely satisfying. As another reviewer mentioned, if you roll your eyes at macrobiotics, tantra and past life regressions, this is not the book for you—at least not now. It may need to "ripen" on your bookshelf a while like it did on mine!
If you want to learn about chakras, this isn’t the book. 7/8th of the book is a soap opera story about the author. The rest of the book has some moves which has pictures of the author doing the poses. She also refers you to her other book “Balance Your Chakras, Balance Your Life which may or may not be a book to teach the reader how to use their Chakras.
"I loved this book from start to finish and found Chakra Secrets to be written with such feeling that I felt that I had gone through all of these things myself, although in some respect we all go through our lives with our own stories to tell, and learn from.
Becca has been through so much and has learnt so much and has now found her perfect life, her calling and fulfilment. My girlfriend also read the book and cried a few times as it was so emotional, heartfelt and beautifully written, with an amazing sadness and happiness. Such tragedies, yet it was as it was meant to be.
An amazing journey and learning and I would recommend everyone, especially if you're into wanting to heal yourself, to read this book.
I found that once I started to read Chakra Secrets, it was hard to put down, and I thank Becca Chopra for sharing her life, her love, her secrets and her lifestyle with us.
I also loved the sayings that were written at the beginning of each chapter, my favourite being "The past is over and done with....Fill your mind with awareness of the beauty and goodness in the present." ~ Serge Kahili King
Very personal and inspirational. The celebrities she met are very easy to work out, although I will save that for others who might want the fun of figuring it out..
I know the retreat she went to at first, and in fact I stayed in that same cabin she stayed at. That property is now closed, but the entire center is now contained in the Lenox, MA site. Kripalu is an excellent place to do some of the work she discussed.
Chopra also inspired me to take out my meditation beads (personally blessed by Gurudev, although I did not have any other direct contact with him!) and start doing the personal growth work that I have been neglecting.
What a great read. I am a fan of memoir and I just love a true story. Becca is brutally honest in this tale of finding herself. I am also an author of memoirs and her story reminded me of myself. She went through heartbreak, confusion, adventures, and learned valuable lessons. I love her writing style, and found the book hard to put down. Becca also teaches us about chakras in the book and gives a great exercise to open them up. I am eager to try it. I have also ordered her other books. She has a new fan!
Chakra Secrets is a fast-paced and engaging read that pulls you in from the first page. But what really sets this memoir apart is the focus on healing techniques. The dynamics of healing are beautifully illustrated through Chopra's fascinating story. Chakra Secrets also includes information on how to use the simple energy balancing technique Dynamind. Anyone interested in understanding how healing approaches work in the real world through an honest and gripping story would enjoy this book!
Second one I tried to read from this author, I just can't through these books. Maybe it takes a long time to get to the "meat" of her books, but I just don't have the patience.
