Callahan-Warren #1

One Heart to Win

Rate this book
Some young ladies marry for money and social standing, a few lucky ones marry for love, but Tiffany Warren is marrying to end a feud. Honoring her mother's promise, Tiffany reluctantly travels west to meet her estranged father and his enemy's eldest son, rancher Hunter Callahan. Once the Warrens and the Callahans are united by marriage, both clans will stop squabbling over a disputed strip of land.

In the chaos of a train robbery, Tiffany seizes a golden opportunity: By assuming the identity of her father's new housekeeper, she can live with the father she never knew and assess his true character, as well as that of the neighboring cowboy to whom she is betrothed. But, too late, Tiffany discovers that the rivalry between the Warrens and the Callahans has escalated when the Callahans steal the Warrens' housekeeper as soon as she steps off the train!

Now, Tiffany, who is pretending to be Jennifer Fleming, finds herself living in the enemy camp, under the same roof as her fiancé. All too soon she learns her intended is a handsome, sweet talking charmer whom she has to fight off because he can't keep his eyes—or his hands—off Jennifer.

After Tiffany's charade is exposed, she refuses to marry Hunter to end the feud.

As Hunter goes about claiming his rightful bride-to-be, he knows that although he loves two women—proper, elegant Tiffany as well as spunky, passionate Jennifer—he has only one heart to win.

Entretenido

I have loved Johanna Lindsey since I was a young mother trying to keep my sanity with three young children. (I only kept parts of it which explains a lot. Hahaha)
This was a relaxing romance with well defined characters. Our heroine is destined to marry the neighbor’s son to end a feud. Neither of them have met so when she arrives she poses as a housekeeper and starts working in her fiancé’s house.
Very cute love story that all wraps up into a lovely Happily Ever After. The BEST kind of love story!

Was that a sex scene...?

****3.5 Stars****

I liked One Heart to Win but it did make me roll my eyes a few times. The characters were a little shallow, the storyline a wee bit OTT and the love story was more of a... she's handy, he's handy... let's get it on. The narrator does a great job, though, which made it still a decent listen.

Warning - This next part of my review is a little spoilerish.

Funny story...I was listening and mostly paying attention when I came to this part of the story (not a word-for-word recounting, just what I remembered happening)

...forced proximity forces the hero and heroine to sleep in a barn together. The heroine, up until this point, had been rejecting the heroes advances. While the hero sleeps, she looks over to him, acknowledges his good looks and takes a thorough perusal of his body. While her eyes are wondering, a certain part of his anatomy changes. She knows all about it from her mother's explanations of what goes on in the marriage bed. His arousal gives her lusty, lusty thoughts and she practically jumps him. Kisses happen...then he separates himself from her.

Hmmm...I know this is an audio and sometimes my mind can wander and I can miss things but I had to listen to the above scene THREE times to work out whether they had done the deed or not.

This is a historical romance...where was all the -

- "How will you fit?"

- "The excruciating pain, I'm not sure I'll survive..."

- "I felt a tear as he pushed through my virginal barrier..."

- "Why would women do this more than once?"

- "Dear me, I could fall pregnant!!"

I guess this was probably more accurate than most *maidenheads being breached by thrusting manhoods* accountings but it was over too quickly. He was supposed to cradle her in his arms apologising for the pain he couldn't help but cause. She was supposed to reassure him that she'd be ok in a year or two...or alternately...berate him, and scream like a banshee *THAT SHE WOULD NEVER DO THAT AGAIN!!*

Anyways, in the end it was all good. Everyone is happy, love is in the air, the mystery is solved and peace to all... hopefully I haven't done permanent damage with all my eye-rollings.

I'm not sure I will be back for more. One day I might have a hankering for a cowboy...

3 stars!

This was an okay read for me. It wasn't bad but it didn't blew me away. But I did like both the MCs. The only problem for me was that the plot was over extended and there were times when the secondary characters overshadowed the MCs. There were subplots that went nowhere and then suddenly, it appeared again near the end and then got wrapped up so quickly. And yeah, no epilogue too, which was a total bummer. :(

Really really like this story!!!

It's been a very long time since my #1 all time favorite historical romance writer has done a western. And even though that's not my favorite historical genre, I will follow Johanna Lindsey anywhere she wants to go. And I'm happy to report that I enjoyed this story so much...much more than I anticipated.

Her writing and her formula is so familiar to me that every time I read one of her books, it feels like coming home. It comforts me like a favorite blanket. It warms me like a favorite hot cup of tea.

This story was just sweet and funny. Nothing outrageous happens, nothing raunchy, no cuss words, and little actual smexy scenes, and yet I was enjoying myself and reveling in the feel that I always get when I read her books.

I'm biased and I know it but me and my love for Johanna is 30+ years strong. And I'll always be one of her biggest fan.

It's the 1880's and two families have been feuding over a strip of land in Montana for a lot of years. In the beginning of the book, the origin of the feud is vague, leaving the reader wondering what all the fuss is about. A second mystery the reader wants solved is the true reason Rose Warren takes her three year old daughter one night fifteen years earlier and escapes to New York City leaving her husband Frank with their sons. But before Rose leaves Nashart, MT though, she begs Zachary Callahan to end the feud and makes him promise that his oldest son will marry her daughter when Tiffany comes of age. Thinking the arranged marriage might possibly end the feud, Mr. Callahan agrees.

Tiffany Warren (MFC) is now eighteen and has very reluctantly agreed to travel from New York City to Montana to meet Hunter Callahan (MMC). A man she's been betrothed to for the past fifteen years and has never laid eyes on. There's another reason Tiffany doesn't want to go to Montana. Over the same fifteen years, she's also not seen her father. In the past, he would accompany her brothers to New York when they visited their mother, but Frank never left the carriage. So when Tiffany is about eight years old, she washes her hands of her father and refuses to write to him and doesn't read the letters he sends her. After questioning her mother endlessly about why they originally had to leave Montana, Tiffany believes her mother is not telling her everything. Especially since her parents never divorced. So not only does Tiffany not want to see her father, she also desperately doesn't want to marry a stranger she doesn't know or love.

Like many wealthy young women, Tiffany has her own personal maid. Anna travels with Tiffany and a hired retired US Marshal to Montana. During their trip, Tiffany and Anna meet Jennifer Fleming and learn that Jennifer's been hired by Mr. Warren to work in his household. But before the train reaches its ultimate destination, it's robbed and Jennifer changes her mind about living in the "wild West". In the next town, Jennifer gives Tiffany a note containing her apologies to Mr. Warren and returns to her home and boyfriend back East.

Even after the occurrence of the robbery, the train arrives in Nashart three days early. Tiffany's family is unaware of this schedule change but the Callahan's know about it. Thinking Tiffany is Jennifer Fleming, John and Cole Callahan approach Tiffany and offer her double the amount Mr. Warren was going to pay. After some quick thinking, Tiff realizes accepting this job solves two problems: 1) She wouldn't have to live with the father she despises; and 2) what better way to get to know her "ھԳé" than by meeting him under anonymous conditions? In theory, it's a good plan. But... Tiffany has never cooked or cleaned a house before. Anna is not supportive of this decision but eventually acquiesces:

"Anna, I never promised Mama that I'd meet my father, just that I'd give Hunter Callahan a minimum of two months. I'll let Mama know what I'm doing. I'll telegraph her before I leave town so she can arrange a 'delay' for my arrival at my father's ranch."

Little did Tiffany or rather "Jennifer" know what she was stepping into after beginning her "housekeeping" job at the Callahan ranch. Inexperienced but beautiful, she gains an ally in Degan Grant - a gunslinger hired to watch Hunter's back and a man described as being dangerous. Eventually, she becomes acclimated to the lifestyle, learns how to cook, and develops a fondness for Zachary and his wife, Mary Callahan. Oh, and is given a pet piglet. 🥓

Hunter, her fiancé and the man who doesn't know who she really is becomes smitten with Jennifer pretty much right away. He nicknames her "Red" and sometimes calls her "Jenny". Tiffany thinks he's handsome and becomes irritated when he flirts with her knowing he's supposed to be engaged but definitely not acting like it. When she subtly confronts him with this (as Jennifer) about halfway through the book, his response IMO is very appropriate:

"I've had this burden all my life. The day I started noticing girls, Pa pulled me aside to tell me, 'You can touch, just don't get attached, you got a wife hand-picked for you.' What the hell, this is the nineteenth century. Who the hell gets stuck with a handpicked wife these days? And for what? Because two men can't sit down and say this ain't our fight, why the hell are we still shooting each other?"

Jennifer asks Hunter if he ever considered the fact that his intended might feel the same way? And from there, Jennifer (really Tiffany) finds out Hunter's true feelings on the matter and they aren't good.

Throughout the book, the reader's question regarding the origination of the feud is slowly brought to light by Mary and Zachary Callahan and Frank Warren. The true reason behind Rose taking Tiffany to New York is revealed, and the ingenious way Frank was able to spend time with Tiffany in New York is also disclosed.

By the last few chapters, the reader learns how Tiffany's true identity becomes known, how hurt Hunter is over her deception, and the real reason Rose had to leave Frank for fifteen years is finally explained to him. And no, it wasn't caused by the feud but Rose was forced to blame it on that by a third and very vindictive party.

Overall it was a good story, but it took longer to read because some sluggish scenes were encountered surrounding "Jennifer's" housekeeping issues.

🪁 - 2.5 stars rounded to 3.
🪁 - Bingo box #37 (Arranged marriage)
🪁 - 13/100
🪁 - Little profanity
🪁 - No graphic violence or sex

Ok well, me, hankering for a cowboy and there u go a historical western romance from one of my favorite authors Johanna Lindsey.

Mistaken Identities do carry the main segment of the story but glad that the author had sort of a happy and easygoing charmer as the hero rather than the antagonistic alphas we are normally subjected to. Maybe not the best from Johanna Lindsey coz I have read many of her books and know that she usually manages to make me enthralled with her storytelling. One Heart to Win did not give the same high but had fun and enjoyed it easily.

Tiffany has some growing up to do and realizes that what she has believed in all these years is by no means the complete truth and the past has a role in the current circumstances. The romance was lovely though I did expect more burning fire between Tiffany and Hunter. Misunderstandings and a goofy villain in the mix add to the necessary drama before all is cleared and happy ever after is achieved. What I absolutely loved is the curious case of the Warrens and Callahans picking up fights just coz they have to do it and not really bothered about hurting each other badly.

One Heart To Win is an easy entertaining read with a heroine who is determined to prove everyone wrong but ends up proven wrong thru her journey to love.

Also posted at my personal blog, the . Come for a visit and enter my July 2013 contest :)

Two feuding families form a truce based on the future marriage of Tiffany and Hunter. But no one considers that a well-born New York City lady in the 1880s might not want to marry a Montana cowboy, or that the cowboy in question would never consider some fancy lady to be his bride. Will this fifty year feud continue if this couple refuses to accept one another?

The Callahans and the Warrens have been feuding over water rights on their adjoining ranches for years. Tiffany Warren was promised in marriage to Hunter Callahan when they were just kids, by her mother, before either of them met. This bond will finally end the feud, or so everyone assumes... but no one ever considered that Tiffany would refuse to marry Hunter.

For fifteen years, Rose and Frank Warren have lived separate lives. Rose lives in New York City with their daughter, Tiffany, and Frank lives in Montana territory with their three sons. Rose left Frank in Montana just after he was almost killed, hoping that her idea for a truce with the Callahans would help keep him safe. Frank thought Rose left because of the feud but Rose has secrets she's been keeping from everyone...

Both families are excited about Tiffany's arrival in Nashart, Montana after her eighteenth birthday. Tiffany hasn't seen her father since she was too small to remember; only receiving letters in his stead. Her brothers came to visit in New York City, but her father never did. This has left Tiffany with a resentment and hate for the father she has never known.

Frank Warren has waited fifteen years to have his daughter with him. Now that she's to be married, he wants to show her all the comforts she's accustomed to so he hires a housekeeper. After an unfortunate incident on the train westward, the housekeeper decides to go home while sending an apology with Tiffany for not following through on her commitment to the Warrens.

Tiffany decides this is an opportunity too hard to pass up, to get to know her father without his knowledge by posing as his housekeeper. But before she gets that chance, two of the Callahan brothers make her an offer she can't refuse. They mistake her for the Warrens' housekeeper and offer her twice the salary to work at their ranch instead. An ideal prank, the Callahans hope to surprise Frank by letting him know eventually that they've stolen his housekeeper. But the surprise will be theirs when they find out that Tiffany is there to spy on her future fiancé without anyone's knowledge. That is, if she gets caught...

Tiffany can't imagine a more perfect solution. She can avoid her father while getting to know her fiancé without him being on his best behavior. Besides, it's only temporary and what could possibly go wrong?

Tiffany knows very little about housekeeping but when she's also expected to cook, that's when the real trouble begins. Can a well-born lady maintain her position as a housekeeper when there aren't enough servants to do the work? Can she keep up the ruse long enough to find out what her fiancé is really like?

In a fun romp from New York City to Montana, surviving a train robbery and a gunfight, Tiffany Warren is one determined heroine. She wants to get through her two month visit in Montana without having to deal with her father and prove to her mother that Hunter Callahan isn't the man for her. But Hunter Callahan has different ideas, even though he's not keen on his arranged marriage either, but that's because he wants the housekeeper and won't stop until he gets her...

I really enjoyed the rivalry between the Callahans and the Warrens because the young men have been pranking each other for years since they were supposed to be honoring a truce. Neither side wants to give in, and even a marriage might not solve their issues with one another. Tiffany's brothers are just as much fun as Hunter and his brothers, so Tiffany has her hands full dealing with the lot of them. Will the town of Nashart survive the showdown that's surely coming?

Even though much of this novel is lighthearted, there are some very touching, heart-rending moments that will surely bring tears to your eyes. Tiffany is a likable heroine whose inexperience is the perfect opportunity for Hunter to teach her a thing or two. Even though Tiffany wants to avoid Hunter's flirtations, there's just too much irresistible going on with this charming cowboy. The secondary characters add interest and flavor, making the Wild West come alive for Tiffany and the reader.

With fun-loving banter, naughty cowboys, a sweet talking hero, a bit of a mystery and more than one couple who deserve a happy-ever-after, ONE HEART TO WIN will satisfy your romantic soul. Celebrating ONE HEART TO WIN as her 50th novel, it's easy to understand why author Johanna Lindsey is a fan favorite. Her characters have spunk and it's effortless to care for them as they journey toward their forever love. I thoroughly enjoyed reading this "new to me" author's latest release and look forward to devouring Johanna Lindsey's backlist!

Tiffany has recently turned eighteen, and her mother informs her that she has a fiancee, and that she will be going to Montana, to meet him, and marry him so that the rivalry between the Warren's and the Callahans stop and there can be a peace between the families. The last thing that Tiffany wants is to marry a stranger, but she promised her mother she would give it two months. There is also another reason she doesn't want to go out west, meeting her father. She has never met him or seen him before in her life, and to this day is still hurt that he never cared enough to meet him. Her parents marriage fell apart when she was little, but her mother refuses to tell her the real reason. While on the train there is a train robbery, and she sees brutality and murder, and wonders what more will be in store for her. Tiffany has come up with a plan when she meets the housekeeper her father had sent, but the housekeeper decides to go back home. So Tiffany decides to take the housekeeper's place in her fathers home, to get to know the real man. What she didn't expect is to practically be taken by the Callahan brothers, who insist she work for them. When they become very insistent she goes along with it, deciding this might be the best option to get to know her fiancee and his family under all the pretenses. Warren Callahan is the oldest son, and as such, he is to be married to the Warren daughter. Which is the last thing that he wants, especially when he meets the most beautiful woman, the new housekeeper. He can't deny the sizzling attraction between them, and even though he knows he has other responsibilities, he starts to realize he wants to keep "Red" for himself and will do everything he can to convince her.

Johnanna Lindsey is one of my top favorite authors, now the last few books that I have read from her have been a bit floozy, however One Heart To Win made me feel like Lindsey is back, a little away. This story wasn't as intense as some of her other earlier books, however I really enjoyed the theme and style that this story is written. I got this on Audible, Now normally Audio books I can drag out for 4-7 days or sometimes more. This story is about 10 hours long, and I was able to listen to it in about a day and a half. I loved it so much. The narrator for the story is Meredith Mitchell, and did a outstanding job when describing emotions that play during the book. The story begins with learning some background information, and in the beginning I wasn't sure if I would like Tiffany as the heroine, she just seemed so flighty at times, but she proved herself many a time. I really loved the style of this "Arranged Marriage" which turned out way different than it normally does. It takes on a whole Disguise turn as well. From the moment that Tiffany hides her true identity and goes to work for the Callahans, I knew this would be fun seeing how long she could keep the pretense up. There is a bit of a mystery involved concerning the true reason for the separation between Tiffany's parents, and as the story progresses you start to piece everything together. The story is rich and full of passion, plenty drama and creativity, and sensational storytelling that is only Johanna Lindsey style.

The characters in this story were heartwarming, even the side characters find a place in the readers heart. Warren is just *sigh* lovely and sexy and I wanted to keep him for myself. Warren is very confident, knows plenty about women, and what I would give to trade with Tiffany. Even though she is just the housekeeper and cook, Warren can't resist her, and the sizzling desire doesn't take very long to become evident. I loved the way Warren is with Tiffany, he laughs and is playful with her, and has a adventurous side to him. He never failed to disappoint, my favorite character by far. Now Tiffany, it took a little while for me to find her likable, but she started to grow on me. You can't help but feel amused by the situation she has put herself in. She is from the big city, where there are balls and parties, and propriety, but then she comes out west and she makes friend with a piglet, learns to cook when she has never even boiled water, and learns how to rope a cow. She definitely becomes endearing after some time, because with this secret identity she has going on, she is forced to do things she never though she would ever do. In the beginning you see how she doesn't plan on ever marrying Warren but when he starts to slowly seduce her, she is flattered, but is jealous of herself, which was quite funny. It was lovely seeing the different families, and their unique personalities that complimented the book.

I have to say that I do hope that Lindsey turns this into a series, I definitely wouldn't mind more westerns from her. Lately though she hasn't had a series but there is much yummy material here to do a series on these two families for sure. FYI she does have another Malory novel coming out next summer which should be fun. Overall I fell in love with One Heart To Win, and only after a few chapters, this book had me totally captivated, and impossible to put down. I enjoyed every moment, and it was filled with adventure, unique storytelling, enchanting characters and sizzling passion. UNFORGETTABLE!!! I recommend to any romance lover that loves a enticing western that is first rate!!

Where is the Johanna Lindsey writing that i remember?!
It's as if she has lost her touch, or, i suspect, her motivation to really pen whirlwind romances for which she is known for. Maybe she's now lifting her quill only as a hobby to pass her time and nothing more.

It is sad and heartbreaking for me to see my favourite author lose her magic. The writing was flat in this book, that evoked not a fraction of emotion in me. It would have helped if Hunter's point of view was also given but except for ch37 (that was like a drop in a sea) we had no clue what was going on his mind. The plot too was made out too improbable. I was questioning almost everything. Why would she do this? Why can't she /he could have done that?

I expected more from her. From her 50th book...

I love reading anything Johanna Lindsey has written. I had read this book years ago, but recently got the audible copy, and I love the twist the narrator brings to it. She manages to bring the characters to life. As usual, I laughed at the antics of Tiffany and Hunter, the main characters, as they slowly fell in love. This is a story based in the Montana territories of the 1800’s, where gunslingers roamed and cowboys came to town to raise hell on Saturday nights. Well worth the read

This was a bad book. Wow. And it had to work pretty hard to get me to that point because I'd initially been so excited to read it. I haven't read a period cowboy romance in ages and Lindsey is such a titan of the industry that I was eagerly looking forward to a professional, well-done book. What a disappointment. As almost all the other negative reviewers have said, there was absolutely no spark between the two main characters so that made the romance fall utterly flat. The heroine, Tiffany, had much better chemistry with Degan, the hired gunslinger, than her intended and Degan was a lot more interesting too. In fact, the only interesting thing about Hunter is something bad - that he apparently sexually harasses the defenseless women on his household staff. Yuck. This guy is no hero, ladies.

All in all, it was a badly written book. Too much time spent on bad things and not enough on good things.

Good book though not as good as her older books, especially the Malory series. Tiffany has been living in New York City with her mom for the last fifteen years. She knows she's engaged to Hunter, but she has no interest in going to the wilderness and marrying a cowboy. Mom tells her she needs to go out there and spend at least two months getting to know the man before she decides. When she arrives she takes advantage of a mistaken identity to become the housekeeper at the Callahan ranch. This gives her a chance to see Hunter in his natural environment, not making nice because he has to. It took me awhile to warm up to Tiffany. She came across as a spoiled brat in the first few chapters. Once she got to the ranch she really had to step up and act like she knew what she was doing. This made for some pretty funny moments as she learned to cook, deal with farm animals, and do things she's never had to do before. She also doesn't quite know what to make of Hunter. He's handsome, charming, funny and showing an inappropriate interest in her. He admits the engagement, but also that he's not enthusiastic about it. Tiffany finds herself more and more attracted to him, but also not happy that he's making moves on the housekeeper while he's engaged to another woman. She also discovers that she has no resistance to his advances. Tiffany also has to deal with her feelings about her father who she hasn't seen in all these years. She thinks he just doesn't care about her and takes out those hurt feelings in her attitude toward him. She is determined to end the feud without being the sacrificial lamb to do it.

Hunter is the oldest of the Callahan boys and the one chosen to marry Tiffany to end the feud. He's not happy about it and really hopes that she'll break it off when she arrives. That becomes even more important to him when "Jennifer" the housekeeper arrives. He falls hard for her very quickly and spends a lot of time teasing her and flirting with her. I enjoyed the way that he liked flustering her. He also challenged her because his teasing made her want to be able to do the things she should be able to do. It was pretty neat to see the way that Hunter really started to care for her and see that he wanted her, not his fiancee. His shock and anger when he found out about the deception was pretty realistic. He also didn't let it throw him for long before he realized that he could end the feud and have the woman he wanted all at the same time. I liked the way that he didn't back down from confrontations with the miners even when he was outnumbered. I liked the way that the younger generation dealt with the feud with mostly harmless pranks.

The story had two things going on besides the romance. There was the feud, what caused it and how to end it. This was more important to the fathers than to the sons. There was also the mystery of why Tiffany's mom had left Montana and refused to have anything to do with her husband. That was resolved in a neat package at the end without too much difficulty.

it's unfortunate but i really think Johanna Lindsey has lost that special something that made her one of my favourite authors years ago. i generally don't read historical romances but i've always made exceptions for Johanna Lindsey and Judith Mcnaught since i started reading their books in high school. Johanna Lindsey's older books were always really exciting and passionate and un-put-down-able. her past few books have been lukewarm for me. i was hoping that with this being her 50th novel she would make it a masterpiece. unfortunately this is not so.

This book was just ok for me. competent writing, great premise but nothing about it made my heart beat fast. i barely felt the chemistry between the hero and the heroine. in fact, the hero wasn't even the most interesting man in the book for me. Degan, a secondary character, fascinated me more than Hunter. I also felt like too much time was spent on the sub-plot and not enough on establishing the relationship between Hunter and Tiffany. All in all this was a disappointingly average effort by Ms Lindsey.

For anyone who is new to this author i suggest you don't bother spending your money on any of her work published after 1999 but i highly recommend the rest of her work.

Not one of Lindsey's best (and a bit klunky) at the end, I read the third book in this series before the first two. I came around to this one and just didn't enjoy it as much as I thought I would.

I'm generally not that big a fan of the American western romance, but I have read some good ones. This just isn't one of those.

._.). ¿Se quedaron? ¿Volvieron a casa juntos?

It has been awhile since I've read a Johanna Lindsey book. She's another author who has been the victim of the lack of bookstores in my area. I used to visit my bookstore weekly and would pick up her new books whenever they came out. Now I have to get lucky seeing them as they come into my library which is a shame because One Heart to Win reminded me of how much I enjoy her books.

While not as good as Lindsey's Malory series I still enjoyed it and it showed some promise of being an enjoyable series (I assume she will be writing about Tiffany's brothers in the future or at least I hope so!). There were a couple things that kept this from being a 5 star read for me. One was the villain was so out of the blue and left me thinking where did that come from? It didn't even seem related to anything else going on in the story. And two, I wanted to see Hunter's POV more often. We would get glimpses of what he was thinking but the majority of the book was just Tiffany's POV. So I felt Hunter's character suffered a little in that I couldn't love him as much as other heroes because we never really get into his head.

What I did like was that while Tiffany starts off sounding like a spoiled brat she actually shows a lot of spunk as she dives into her character of a housekeeper/cook. I felt like I could relate to her as she tried to learn how to cook and the pride she took in her successes and the disappointment in her failed meals. And her pet pig just sounded adorable and I could totally see myself falling for him as a pet too.

The supporting characters were also a fun group and I would have loved to see more of them. For example, I would have liked to actually see the cook's helper she takes find his father and hear what happened, I'm hoping the hired gun, Degan, and Tiffany's brothers all get their own books as well because they all sound intriguing.

Fun book. A bit too much drama and too many misunderstandings but it was cute nevertheless.

Read this for a library challenge. Somebody needs to tell Johanna Lindsey to ease up on the exclamation marks.

To be honest, this book didn't seem like one of Johanna Lindsey's older books. You won't see any of Lindsey's writing style here. I actually wondered if this was a ghost writer because it just doesn't have the same flow to it that her older books have. The plot was somewhat creative but the flow was completely flat. I read the book and had almost no reaction whatsoever to it except to say, "That was it?"
The storyline is about the heroine, a society born lady who has never had to work in her life, who has been betrothed to the hero, a cowboy, her entire life. The only reason for the betrothal is to end a feud that was started by their respective grandparents. The heroine doesn't want to marry the hero and the hero feels the same way. Then the heroine dons a disguise to really find out what type of a man the hero really is. About 90% of the book is all about how the heroine learns how to cook and clean the house. You rarely hear from the hero, mainly it's all from the heroine's perspective. The "bad guy" element was just really cheesy and over done. I was actually intrigued in the beginning of the book but then it just went downhill from there. I did read this in a couple of days only because I hate to leave a book half finished. This is not one of her best books. If you are really interested in reading something by Johanna Lindsey then I would suggest you take a look at some of her older works.

I was entertained which is not unusual for a Lindsey book. However, the romance between Hunter and Tiffany took a backseat to the family feud and mystery surrounding Tiffany's parents' separation. Speaking of which, I couldn't believe Tiffany's mother kept her secret for as long as she did. Really? Talk about stupid.

Anyway, it took about twenty percent of the way in before Tiffany arrived in Montana and Hunter was introduced. (In my opinion, a romance never really becomes exciting until the hero appears!) Which is too bad because Hunter was a flirtatious, charming hero, while Tiffany was a spirited, stubborn heroine. Even though the romance didn't receive enough attention, I still enjoyed this book which I think can be attributed to the author's talent to entertain.
