Featured Couple: Lance (Human) & Harmony (Lion)
The book is fully connected with the previous book “Megan's Mark�. This is the second book where the Breed is the female main character, while the male main character is human.
Harmony Lancaster, also known by the nickname Death, is a Lion Breed who has been an assassin since she escaped from the labs many years ago. Everybody is looking for her: Breeds, Jonas Wyatt, human authorities, the Council, Dane (Leo's son) etc.
The famous mastermind and master manipulator Jonas is apparently her brother and he is the one who will succeed in capturing her. Consequently for unknown motives, Jonas sends her to Megan’s hometown in New Mexico where Lance Jacobs (Megan’s cousin) is the sheriff. Soon Harmony will realize that she is Lance� chosen mate.
After they meet Lance is keep trying to protect her from any potential threats, to be aware of Jonas� motives and to understand what Mating Heat is. I must point out that Megan does not help him much.
The sex between them is way over the top and Lance is a bit too vocal during their steamy moments. And of course although he is only a human, he still has to be the dominant one in the relationship.
Towards the end, book becomes very emotional. You may shed a few tears thinking what happens when a Breed has to go on without his mate.
Other important effects to the series that were brought up in this book:
-Lots of breeds� politics are unveiled.
-We get more information on “the original Breed�, the first actual Breed, created as a genetically enhanced crossbreed of a man with animal characteristics.

Death a.k.a. Harmony meets her mate, Sheriff Lance Jacobs
These two were definitely not looking for love. Harmony is an assassin for hire and for the hell of it, She kills adults who abuse children for fun and is wanted by the Genetics Council, by the Breeds for breaking breed laws, and by the supremecist groups against Breeds. She knows that one day her haters will eventually catch up with her and kill her.
Jonas, her half-brother who she believes wants her dead, but not before he gets his hands on the documents she stole when she killed all the scientists and broke out of the labs when she was 15, catches her with his team from the Bureau of Breed Affairs. Jonas tells Harmony he is willing to give her a final chance if she goes to the desert and works as a deputy to Sheriff Jacobs.
Harmony and Lance meet in a bar on the first night she is in town and end up having a one night stand. She leaves first thing in the morning. Then arrives at the Sheriffs office to meet with Jonas and the Sheriff only to be surprised at seeing her hot lover standing in the office. Precioso!! Realmente ésta es una de las mejores entregas de la serie, tanto por el argumento, como por los personajes y su relación, que se siente increíblemente fluida, a diferencia de algunas de las novelas anteriores.
Al igual que en , la acción se desarrolla en el pequeño pueblo de Broken Butte y es Lance, el primo de Megan y sheriff de la localidad, quien ahora debe enfrentarse a los síntomas de acoplamiento que caracterizan a las parejas de una casta. Ella es Harmony, que con sólo 15 años escapó de los laboratorios para convertirse en Muerte, una de las asesinas más buscadas y que, por más de diez años ha tenido que huir tanto de las mismas castas, las sociedades puristas y el Consejo de Genética.
Cuando es finalmente atrapada por su hermano Jonas, quien lleva las relaciones del Santuario de las Castas con el resto del mundo, éste le da la oportunidad de redimirse para que no sea condenada a muerte por la Ley de las Castas, trabajando seis meses como apoyo a un sheriff local (Lance, por supuesto) y demostrando que puede reincorporarse a la sociedad.
Durante la lectura queda más que claro que, de no haber sido por el apoyo incondicional de Lance, en todos los aspectos, ella no lo hubiera logrado... y creo que ese es uno de los aspectos más lindos y emotivos de la novela.
Por su parte, la oferta de Jonas no era del todo desinteresada, ya que está detrás de muchos secretos a los que sólo Harmony lo puede llevar. Lo que me lleva a contarles que en cada libro se conocen más aspectos y conflictos de la historia completa, de hecho, ya han pasado 10 años desde que Callan (del primer libro) hiciera públicos los terribles experimentos del Consejo de Genética.
Realmente esta serie es totalmente adictiva, creo que no me voy a rendir hasta leerlos todos, pero Harmony's Way siempre va a tener un lugar privilegiado en mi corazoncito.

Lance and Harmony meet on page 17 of this book and by page 55 have had very lengthy sex twice -- the second time with some bondage thrown in -- which is once more than they’ve had conversations. That continues to be the pattern throughout. Sex, sex, a tiny bit of story and then some more sex.
I usually am fine with “fated mate� stories, but this one really pushed it. The mating seems mainly a way of subjugating the woman and keeping her helpless. There’s some thematic reason for this; Harmony is the cold-blooded assassin being brought to her knees:
“‘I’m weak,� she said then, distress filling her eyes. ‘I can’t be weak, Lance.’�
I could have found this very powerful, if only there had been more build-up. Instead, we’re told how powerful and heartless Harmony is, then five seconds later she’s mated and helpless. I’m so tired of Leigh’s weird, Diana Palmerish style of having half the story take place before it starts.

Lora Leigh has consistently delivered page-turning drama and suspense with the Breeds series and Harmony's Way is one that will 'haunt' me (see my profile for my star-rating descriptions).
The hero, Lance Jacobs, was introduced in but he is revealed in Harmony's Way as a dominant alpha male, possessive and protective.
The heroine, Harmony Lancaster, is very much a study in contrasts. From the beginning, she reveals a feminine side in that she polishes her toenails, yet there is nothing else soft and feminine about Harmony. She was trained to kill and that's what she does. What sets her above the Genetic Council is that she has better motives for killing. Nonetheless, coming to terms with mating and the emotional involvement that results is interwoven with the story throughout the book. Leigh does this better than most. There are no epiphanies in which Harmony suddenly accepts her feminine and emotional side.
But what really earned the 5-star rating from me is that I found myself crying and reading as fast as I could to find out the outcome. It's seldom that the "happily ever after" ending is not assured throughout the story. After reading several Breeds books, one becomes comfortable with the idea that the mating really bonds the couple for life. Harmony's Way gives readers a chance to consider what happens when a mate has to go on without their mate.
There is a lot of back story that is not well explained in Harmony's Way so if you're not familiar with Lora Leigh's Breeds, I recommend starting with . Per usual HW is packed with HOT alpha men, one spunky (and this time- tortured) heroine, lots of sex, lots of explicit language over said sex and an ever advancing plot.
Despite all the above goodness, and I can’t believe I’m gonna say this, there was almost TOO much sex in it. Worst of all, the hero was a “talker� while doing the deed. I actually found myself skimming the sex scenes to get to more of the plot.
But HW is important because this is where we get more info on “the original Breed�, (a crossbreed created by man, genetically enhanced with the characteristics of an animal- in this case, a Lion)- the first “Leo�. And hence my issue with the book... that being, by the time LL got around to discussing the first Leo, I wanted more and didn’t need the two main characters getting it on every two pages!
Too much sex aside- I did enjoy it... just not as much as some of her other Breed books.

July 19, 2014It is often said that the definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results. Maybe I need to pay closer attention to conventional wisdom. Obviously, there is something about these books that makes me pick one up every few months or so. But there are also finite things about the series that consistently make me want to bang my head against the wall every time I read. And so here I am, at the completion of yet another installment, shaking my head at my own insanity.
To be fair, in a lot of ways, this book really is a bit better than many of the previous installments. I know some people credit that to the change in publisher and maybe that did play a part in the editing process. For me, I felt like it had a bit more of a plot amidst the many heaving and creaming scenes.
And perhaps, more importantly (to me), the heroine had a bit more say in her situation. Don’t get too excited just yet, though. It’s a Breeds book. No matter how strong the heroine is, the hero will get a chance to put her in her place. I’ll get back to that in a minute.

Both civilian and Breed authorities have been hunting her for years. Now her brother Jonas has succeeding in capturing her. He sends her to Megan’s hometown in New Mexico, where he knows she will find her mate in Lance.
Sure enough, the chemicals, pheromones and fate all work their magic and Harmony and Lance hook up. Neither had any idea that their one night stand would turn them into mates. But once it happens, well, you know how it goes. They need to have sex with each other almost constantly, until Harmony is able to conceive. Lance accepts it right away, but Harmony has a much tougher time. With her past, emotion makes her vulnerable and Lance could be a weakness that her enemies could exploit. In the meantime, as the story unfolds, we learn about Jonas’s ulterior motives, the first Breed and his ties to Harmony, and the anti-Breed movement, hoping to destroy the species.
As always, the sex is way over the top, but fun for the most part. Lots of clenching and spasming body parts. Harmony held her own and about 2/3 of the way through the book, I was patting myself on the back for giving the series another go. But eventually, Lance has to come out on top, both sexually and otherwise. Even though he is human and she is a Lion Breed, he still gets to be more dominating. And for me, the most frustrating part, that when all else fails in making her listen, the tried but true butt-sex approach makes her accept his authority. I just don’t get it.
Again, there were parts I enjoyed. I like shifter mating. I like hot sex. I even got misty toward the end with one scene (which I won’t spoil.) But Lora Leigh just has to put the woman “in her place� in each and every book and I have to ask myself WHY??? Instead of allowing myself the guilty pleasure of a fun and slightly cheesy romance, I end up mad every time.
Insanity.

At first, I considered giving this book a 5-star rating, just because of Jonas... Man, that´s one Breed I´d like to know up close and personal! ;) Then I thought: if I was more attracted to a secondary character than to the H/h, there was something "wrong" with this book... I really liked Lance and Harmony, but I stopped paying attention to them everytime Jonas made an appearance. I checked the following books in the Breeds series to see which one was HIS story but, darn!, LL hasn´t published it yet. *sigh*
Okay, enough about Jonas and back to 'Harmony´s Way'. The story was pretty interesting, with more than one "mystery" thrown in to keep me wondering what´s coming next - and there´s a "problem" for me... There were so many things going on that I felt confused sometimes. That almost made me want to reread the book right after finishing it, because I got the feeling that I´d lost something.
The sex scenes between Lance and Harmony were "standard LL" - steaming hot! - but there were too many of them and, I´m sorry to say, I skimmed through some. Oh, and I really didn´t care for the one with Jonas and the lawyer! Talk about a turn-off!...
All things considered, I´m still hooked to the Breeds series and plan on reading the next books with a smile - and a fan. ;)

Even though I rated them the same, Harmony's Way was worse than Megan's Mark as far as the romance is concerned. I did not care about Lance and Harmony at all. I didn't get to know who Lance was and Harmony is supposed to be the best there is that she is nicknamed "Death", but once Lance steps into the picture, she becomes a meek, weak-willed woman who cries all the time. The sex scenes were so numerous and repetitive, that I just skimmed right through them. The only thing that kept my interest was the plot. I enjoy reading the politics of the breeds and what might happen with their future. I really hope the next few books get better or I may have to put this series to bed.

Harmony is strong and resilient, always counting on her skills and dark emotions to help her, but she cannot fight the potent attraction between her and Lance. With enemies sprouting out around them, her fight and flight is about to come to an end.
I really liked this book. From the beginning it didn't look like much and I was really afraid it was just like some of the previous not so great book promising a bang but never delivering it. But boy did this one deliver it. And what a bang it was.
We were once again greeted with a strong heroine, but at least Harmony didn't leap into contradictions every two pages. Unlike her predecessors she was pretty much constant and that realization came as a pleasant relief. She was strong, yet she knew her limitations and weaknesses. And despite her past, her reputation, she was capable of so much depth of emotion it was almost scary in its intensity.
Lance was her perfect counterpart. His strength of character and utter confidence drew me from the first time he appeared in and this book just confirmed what amazing guy this wonderful man really is.
These two were perfect for each other and it was beautiful to read how much Lance was a balm for Harmony's soul, making the ending so much more of a tear-jerker...Yeah, I cried, I admit it.
I loved the intrigue in this book. There were so many unknowns in the plot it really provided a roller coaster, edge-of-the-seat experience. Friends turned to enemies and enemies turned into friends at the drop of a dime, there was always some shady characters walking that fine line between friend and foe, and the mystery wasn't revealed until the very end (and even then not in its entirety), making this an exhilarating read.
With this book Ms. Leigh expanded this fantasy world a little further, providing fodder for the next books in the series, adding new and utterly unexpected depths to the recurring characters, making the reader even more curious.
Kudos for Jonas Wyatt. Ms. Leigh gave us a glimpse of his depth in the previous book, but she truly expanded on his manipulative SOB persona in this one. I think the epilogue wasn't exactly needed, until he finds his mate I don't need to know the guy has a sex life, thank you very much. But at least there's someone else itching to see him mated.
I hope he gets a tough-as-nails chick that will make him squirm. Because after what he did in this book alone, he so deserves to suffer a bit.

Dominant, territorial, possessive, protective....and this was Lance, the human! Great hero....could hear the winds speak to him, but fought gift most of his life.

This started out good....fizzled in the middle and ended with a bang ~ literally! Lance and Harmony are great together and I really enjoyed learning more about the Breeds, Jonas and the first Leo...even Dane was interesting.
BUT the cheesy sex was a bit much for me AND there's was NO romance....except maybe the ending. So that is what is giving me hope to maybe read a few other books in the series ~ that and a certain friend {V!!} that adamantly insist there are good books in this series. Wish me luck!

Years ago I stopped at book 12, and now I'm re-reading those book so I can pick back up with book 13. Even though I don't remember much about the couples, I'm finding now I'm much more interested in the breed story than the H/h. I enjoy erotic books, but personally I'm finding the sex scenes and inner dialog too drawn out. However....I do want to know how the breed storyline develops....so I will continue.

Oh my word how good was this book.
It was blooming fantastic, by the end my heart was in my mouth and tears were in my eyes. The intensity with which Lora Leigh writes is immense. You are on the edge of your seat getting an adrenaline rush believing 100% in the world she creates. I was going to read a book from a different series next but not now book 9 here I come.

I enjoyed reading about Lance and Harmony. Harmony was an interesting character and Lance was actually a pretty good character I enjoyed their romance but am even more intrigued by Dane, Jonas and the first Leo. I want to know more about them and I want Dane to get his mate and I wouldn't mind if Ryan also would get a mate.

Harmony is a rock-star!! She is just the type of strong character you love and continues to hold her own even after finding her mate! Lance is strong and dominate but not over shadowing! Lots of steam here!! An office sex scene to die for!! Really digging the new turn in the breeds books!!

I think this Breeds novel was one of the best ones yet! I wasn't sure at first because I wasn't all fired up about Lance. But it was seriously hot and freaking excellent. Harmony was a great addition to the feline Breeds and I loved her. Great, sexy read!

But Harmony knows Jonas is stacking the deck against her, he wants her dead.
Harmony decides to check out a local bar in Broken Butte the night before she is to report for her dreaded assignment. Shortly after arriving she is drawn to a sexy cowboy that comes in, which is extremely unusual for her to be drawn to anybody. They end up leaving together and can’t keep their hands off one another, barely even making it to his house. She ends up running out on him afterwards though, only to discover he’s the sheriff she will be working for, Lance Jacobs, and the mating heat is hitting her hard. And, Jonas knew this would happen and wants her to get pregnant! But why? Just another way for him to torture her?
Lance is infuriated that he is mated to a breed, at first. Finding out that his mate is an assassin that goes by the name Death and is wanted for suspected kills from both the human and breed law enforcement agencies doesn’t warm him to the idea either. But he can’t get past his lust and quickly forgets about all that negativity and opens himself up to Harmony body and soul. If only she was so trusting.
Now someone is framing Harmony for murders that were made to look like her suspected kills, and things are heating up with an anti-breed activist group. It will take everything Lance has to keep his mate safe while trying to keep his unquenchable lust under control and to keep her from doing what she does best, run!
I really enjoyed this book! I was hooked from Harmony and Lance’s initial meet and did not want to put this book down! It’s a quick steamy read that kept me on the edge of my seat! It can easily be read in a few days. If not for having to work I’d probably have had it done in one!
Harmony is as badass as they come! She does what she must to survive. She doesn’t have friends because she doesn’t trust easily. And she knows there is always an enemy lurking around the corner. The hardest thing about mating Lance is her fear of her enemies harming him.
I really loved Lance. He was a pretty laid-back guy most of the book, not trying to force dominance on her, even when his arousal was nearly unbearable. He never wanted to take her choice away and needed her to be the one to come to him. It’s something I really admire in this franchise because it’s so uncommon with the males in this series up to this point. Now don’t get me wrong he has the usual Lora Leigh book’s required dominant jerk scene, but at least he was a good guy the rest of the time. But seriously why is anal always used as a punishment to force dominance in Leigh’s books? Why?
This is such an emotional read. It seriously had me bawling toward the end. I love a book that can evoke such emotion from me.
I could have done without the epilogue though as I felt that it really took away from the emotional ending and really didn’t add much to the story. It didn’t really even give me anything to look forward to, but I know that Leigh will continue to deliver for me!
And, I don’t know about you � but I can’t wait for Dane’s book

Prior to her escape from the labs, Harmony Lancaster was breed as an assassin and trained to kill. Now on the outside, she seeks justice for the weak and innocent, which puts her in danger not only from racial purists but from Breed Law as well. To save her life, Harmony is placed in the care of Sheriff Lance Jacobs who can see the gentle and caring woman beneath the façade of a killer. Their new relationship is soon threatened on all fronts and Harmony and Lance will have to stand and fight in order for their love to survive.
Review:
The story has potential and the characters are likeable but the sex scenes tend to overshadow the plot.
Leigh seems to have reverted to the style of writing that characterizes the first books in the series in that the romance is hot but the mating is immediate and the relationship does not have enough time to build.
Lance was a great character in Megan’s Mark and definitely deserved his own book. That said, his characterization in Harmony’s Way is disappointing. Even though he is gorgeous and likeable, the overt dominance he displays is excessive. It is almost as if Leigh needs to prove that a purely human male can be as aggressive and protective of his mate as a breed male, and this is completely unnecessary. It is obvious that Lance is quite capable of standing his ground against whatever threat comes along without dominating Harmony in the process.
Harmony’s characterization is also problematic. At the beginning of the book, she is a completely independent woman and a ruthless killer but as the story progresses she seems to lose herself in the relationship with Lance and becomes weak and virtually helpless. While I appreciate a strong willed character learning to love and trust others, it was overdone here and I found it difficult to identify with her.
In terms of the plot, more information is provided about the possibility that the first lion breed, or Leo, has survived. However, this aspect of the storyline is not sufficiently developed. Moreover, there are too many potential threats to Harmony and once a villain is narrowed down, he turns out to be lackluster and does not constitute a real danger. There is no real build up of tension and suspense.
Despite my reservations about this book, I really enjoy the world that Leigh has constructed and I am interested in seeing what happens when Jonas meets his match down the road. Hopefully, the next book will be an improvement.

This is a very good addition to this series. I loved Harmony the first time that I read the book and I love her more after reading the story a second time. I also love Lance. He found a special place in my heart because he cared so much for Megan, Megan's Mark. Lance is one of those alpha males that we all wish we could find. He is loyal, compassionate, and very dominant. He also doesn't take any nonsense from Jonah. Jonah is at his most manipulative in this story. Jonah is determined to save Harmony as well as force the first Leo out of hiding. Jonah thinks that Dane is the first Leo. Boy is he in for a surprise in one of the future books. Dane is almost as bad as Jonah. He also cares for Harmony and He had hoped that she would be his mate but of course that wasn't happening.
While Jonah breaks the back of H. R. Alonzo I don't think he is gone. I don't remember if he shows up in future books. I do hope that Breeds find a way to shut him up permanently and not cast any suspicious on the Breeds. The man is a menace and needs to feel what is like to have someone hound you just because you are different. He is a bully and needs to be treated as such.

Harmony Lancaster is a lion Breed. Created to be a killer, she has become a problem to other Breeds with the way she get justice. But they can not kill her as she holds information stolen from the labs that contains vital information about the first Leo.
She is mated with Sheriff Lance Jacobs, a man who has resisted a side of himself for far to long. But when Harmony comes into his life he will embrace fully keep her alive.
I really liked this book, though it did start out slow, the middle/ending made up for it.
I liked Harmony she was tough, wound woman who was always on her own-- and liked it that way--until she met Lance. But what I liked about her most was that though she resisted him she wasn't so 'independent' that I wanted to scream at her like some heroines can be.
Lance was--sexy, gentle, patient and underneath it was a whole lot of strength and dominance that I just loved! I thought he and Harmony made a really great couple but I have to admit that I didn't really get LOVE it until I was pretty far into it.
Which is why I only gave the book four stars. Up until a point my interest was really caught on secondary characters-- though I admit I am still curious-- but as I said the middle/ending made up for that getting it the four stars. I thought it was a really emotional and wonderful ending-- Yes, I teared up.
I would definitely recommend this book to anyone who likes the Breeds series. And paranormal/erotica lovers, because there is some really HOT sex in this book!!

I really liked this book, though it did start out slow, the middle/ending made up for it.
I liked Harmony she was tough, wound woman who was always on her own-- and liked it that way--until she met Lance. But what I liked about her most was that though she resisted him she wasn't so 'independent' that I wanted to scream at her like some heroines can be.
Lance was--sexy, gentle, patient and underneath it was a whole lot of strength and dominance that I just loved! I thought he and Harmony made a really great couple but I have to admit that I didn't really get LOVE it until I was pretty far into it.
Which is why I only gave the book four stars. Up until a point my interest was really caught on secondary characters-- though I admit I am still curious-- but as I said the middle/ending made up for that getting it the four stars. I thought it was a really emotional and wonderful ending-- Yes, I teared up.
I would definitely recommend this book to anyone who likes the Breeds series. And paranormal/erotica lovers, because there is some really HOT sex in this book!!
