When did my life become a demented episode from The Mindy Project?
Moving to Boston to begin grad school meant I was supposed to start a new life--not dig through a past I thought I'd left behind four years ago. But when I saw the poster for Random Acts of Crazy, all I could think about was the drummer, Sam Hinton, the boy I'd loved in high school and who disappeared with my heart.
Who knew I'd become the living version of Magic Mike?
Seeing Amy Smithson at my gig and watching her win a kiss from my bandmate, Liam, was a gut punch. Four years ago we squared off in a high school debate that had higher stakes than we ever imagined, and here I was...wanting what I'd walked away from. Are there too many secrets between us to allow her to trust me again?
New York Times and USA Today bestselling author Julia Kent writes romantic comedy with an edge. Since 2013, she has sold more than 2 million books, with 5 New York Times bestsellers and more than 21 appearances on the USA Today bestseller list. Her books have been translated into French, German, and Italian, with more titles releasing in the future.
From billionaires to BBWs to new adult rock stars, Julia finds a sensual, goofy joy in every contemporary romance she writes. Unlike Shannon from Shopping for a Billionaire, she did not meet her husband after dropping her phone in a men's room toilet (and he isn't a billionaire in a rom com).
She also writes romantic suspense as Meli Raine, sexy shifter romances as DJ Jennings, billionaire shifters as half of the author team Diana Seere, and co-authors with Elisa Reed.
She lives in New England with her husband and three children in a household where she is the only person with the gene required to change empty toilet paper rolls.
I like this book very much. I am bit skeptical at first due to some negative reviews on this book. The first of the book, I was confuse eith the plot of the story. It seems jumble all around.
However something keeps me going. And I am not regretting it at all. The second chance betwene Sam and Amy is just so sweet. I also love Sam. He is such a lovely soul. Despite what happens to him in his past, he soldiers on with his head held high.
And Trevor, Darla and the rest of the gangs are just hilarious.
2.5 stars. doesn't even compare to book 1 which I rated 4 stars. this book bored me. I liked the characters just fine. I liked their personalities, I liked the long lost love angle- the issue at stake is that as I read along I felt like the author was just filling in words or telling too long versions of back story and it completely lost its fire. it just wasn't that interesting of a story at all. sorry!
I liked this one better than the first book in the series but I’m awarding it the same number of stars. The characters were more relatable. Darla from book one is in this story and she is even more trashy and obnoxious than she was in book one. Ugh. 🙄 *audiobook version*
If you love your hot sex with beautiful, moving emotion and LOL moments that leave you gasping for breath, read this book. I absolutely loved it. Another win for Julia Kent.
As a a member of Julia Kent's street team I receive ARCs of her books. I love the Obedient series, hoping for a spin off, I like the Billionaire series also. Random Acts of Crazy, was just a little too randomly crazy for me to really get into, but I did like the characters. So when I received Random Acts of Trust I was iffy. It started off better and more succinct then the first book. I didn't feel as if I had fallen down a rabbit hole, but then the big secret began to annoy me. I liked the characters again, and was rooting for them and wanting them to get together, but it just seemed too be dragged out too long. The story behind Amy and Sam's struggle and struggle to be together were believable and honest, I just wish they would have been revealed earlier if not to each other than at least to the reader. I am so looking forward to Liam's story, the teaser has me hooked and giggling already. Great characters, great story, just need the suspense not to be drawn out forever.
Amy met Sam in high school. They went to different schools but both were on the debate team. They liked each other right away. At a debate that would change their lives forever they shared their feelings. Then they had to square off. The top 3 would win scholarships and Sam had to be in the top 3. His life depended on it, literally.
Liam and Sam are in a band together. Liam is Amy’s next door neighbor. After the debate the couple did not stand a chance. Sam now having to live with his father’s repercussions was basically on his own. Living from friend to friend thoughts of Amy needing someone better in her life. They were supposed to go Amy’s prom, Sam never showed. But Liam did and it changed Amy’s life forever.
Years later with a chance encounter they met again. Thoughts of the past stretching between them. 4 years of no words spoken. When Sam’s truth comes out, all is forgiven. Can Amy deal with Sam’s past and his new career path.
The best part about this book was Darla from the 1st book. Amy was wishy-washy and Sam was still keeping secrets. I don’t feel like we got enough feelings of the 2 characters love for one another. I also wanted more on what Liam felt about Prom night and his thoughts. It was just kind of an OKAY read. I have book 3 since I got 1-3 as a freebie read so I will read that one next. Hopefully it is better if not I may not continue this series.
Even though this is not my first read by this author, it is my first glimpse into the world of the boys of Random Acts of Crazy. Julia brings her original sense of humor to this series as she has done in other books I have read of hers, but with this being my first new adult read from her, I wanted to see if she could pull off the angsty drama, too. Sam Hinton and Amy Smithson know each other from their high school debate team. They recognized they have feelings for one another and just as they went to explore a budding romance, Sam stands Amy up at prom and she is confused as to why. They both have trying and unaffectionate families, but found more in each other, so Amy never forgets Sam. Four years later, Amy find herself in Boston to start college and sees Sam playing drums for a band at a bar. Sam's music has been his therapy since he had to leave Amy and he does odd jobs (wink, wink, nudge, nudge) to keep himself floating. These two reunite, but there's unanswered questions about why Sam left and if they can start anew. Fans of Random Acts of Crazy will enjoy reading about the band in this installment to the series. I thoroughly enjoyed reading it and if you haven't given it a try, I have to ask, what are you waiting for? ** I voluntarily read an advanced review copy of this book in exchange for an honest review **
This book was so not what I thought it was going to be, and I just found out the other books in the series wouldn't be my cup of tea either because just from the little taste I got from this I wasn't overly thrilled with.
I had a lot of hope with this because of the premise. It sounded right up my alley with a bookish heroine who had been in love with Sam, the indie rocker, ever since high school. Then he broke her heart and she was never the same again and haven't seen each other for four years until now. I thought this sounded so good with lots of angst and issues to work through before they got their happily ever.
First off, for me I was bored out of my mind in the beginning and found myself skimming through a majority to get to the meat of the story. It just felt really dragged out and so slow. Plus I didn't really care about either Sam or Amy. Like not at all. There was nothing engaging about them or sucked me into their story. It just wasn't peaking my interest. I even contemplated not even finishing this book multiple times because I was really just painfully plowing through it. It was hard but I did get through it.
When I wasn't bored with it then I was turned off with it. And it was multiple things. Things that, for me don't equate to romance. Now despite the fact that this story centered around Amy and Sam. Sam's friend's made appearances and played a role in the story. I just found out that they have their own stories in this series and probably went in a lot more detail than here but what I got here was more than enough. Almost too much. I try not to be judgy and stuff and it seem to work out for them, but I just don't want that in my romance. What I am talking about? I am talking about the fact that Sam's three friends were in a relationship with each other. You read right three. It was Darla and two of Sam's guy friends and they were in a sexual relationship together. And even though a lot of it happened off stage, it was still in the background. For me, that was a major turn off, and it just left me with a bad taste in mouth. I can take lot, but not that especially in my romance. Just no. Again this wasn't the focus in the story, but it was enough to curb my enjoyment of this book.
Another turn off with this book was the whole phone thing. That was disturbing. I get that it was meant to be funny and add humor to this story, but I didn't find it funny. I found it strange. I could maybe get over if it was something else, put not cell phone. Yuck.
Another thing that I wasn't thrilled with, but I got over was Sam becoming a stripper. I get where he was coming from and why he was doing it, but I definitely didn't see this story going in this direction. I wasn't prepared. I get he had to do what he had to, but I wish he told Amy about beforehand because the way she found out wasn't good. I understand that it was to add to the drama and obstacles between them, but at the same time I felt they had enough trouble between them they didn't need anymore. I too thought that this was just kind of thrown in there just to add drama. It disturbed the flow of the story I felt.
I wasn't a fan of the romance between Sam and Amy. There wasn't any really. It was more of their attraction and past more than anything. It didn't really show them fall in love. I didn't believe it.
Until the very end, which was the best part of the book. Finally things got out it the open and revelations were made about what happened in the past. Honesty was present and they finally opened up to each other. Finally emotions were on display and I believed them. Everything was just let go then it was beautiful especially when they made love first time.
I really enjoyed that scene. It was a great moment between them. I wish I had the same feeling all way through read as I did with this scene. It showed their closeness both physically and emotionally. That scene made me feel the love between them when I didn't for a majority of the book. If the rest of this book was just like the ending I would have enjoyed this book so much more and probably would have looked over the flaws that was glaring at me.
The did have some dark family history that caused them to have some issues through their life. Usually I like that in a romance and it usually gives the book an edge, but in this case it wasn't enough to look over some of the other things in the story. Though I felt bad for what they had gone through in their lives, I wish it drew me in more. Made me more interested in them and into the story. It wasn't that I didn't care. I just was as interested as I should've been with these dark paths that they went on.
In general, this book just wasn't cup of tea. For one, I was expecting that story was going to be totally different from the one I got. I wanted to be more engaged and engrossed in it, and I just wasn't. In fact I was bored for a majority of it. I had skimmed through it just to get through it. I just wasn't interested in Amy and Sam or their story. It dragged at times. It took forever for them to reunite, and it took awhile to get to the good stuff. And there wasn't a lot of good stuff in my opinion. In fact quite a few things turned me off about this story. The ménage tois was one of them even though it wasn't the main focus it was still there. I think it overshadowed everything for me. Now other people may like the ménage tois, but I am not one of them. Whenever I see those stories, I avoid them at all cost. They are just not my taste. I won't be reading the rest book in this series because of it featuring the ménage tois element. I think just overtook it for me. The ending was the best part for me, and I wish that carried through the entire book. It needed it for me to enjoy it. This was just not the book for me.

So for me this is getting like 3 3/4-4 stars. What I liked the most about this book was Darla. Darla & Amy, Darla & Trevor/Joe... Darla from the 1st book to me is what makes this book good. Again, she is freaking hysterical! If it weren't for her showing up so much in here I feel this book would have fell pretty flat. I just couldn't get into Amy. IDK, It was just OK.
I listened to the audiobook and the narrators did a good job. I liked the characters but the storyline didn't work for me because the way it was written is something I'm personally not a fan of (miscommunication/ no communication). I do plan to continue with this series.
This is a second chance for two people who come from dysfunctional families. It's slow, filled with flash back reveals and their current craziness, before finally resolving at the very end. Darla plays a major role as a spring character in this installment....
This is the second book in Julia Kent's Random Acts collection. The books are not necessarily a series, and do not have to be read in order. However, Random Acts of Crazy is a great book, and Random Acts of Trust reads more smoothly after reading Crazy.
Ms. Kent has an amazing ability to bring out emotions in both her characters and her readers. I have to admit, I am married to a drummer and was quiet looking forward to how Ms. Kent would portray the main character in Trust. She succeeded in creating a man who was not only a hot drummer, but who was also real in his emotions and behaviors. She also succeeded in giving me even more reason to believe that drummers are HOT. The scenario between the two main characters shows us that mistakes and misinterpretations can happen in every relationship and that they can be overcome.
If you haven't read the Random Acts collection, start with this one, you will love it. I would highly suggest picking up Ms. Kent's entire back list as well, as she never fails to write an excellent story.
**I was provided an ARC for free in exchange for an honest review.** I would have gladly paid full price, pick this one up now while it is on sale.
I am a huge fan of Julia Kent! all of her books are hilarious, steamy and touching in ways that most books are not! I laughed i cried and oh my I will NEVER look at a cell phone the same way ever again!! Julia knows exactly what to put in a story to get you hooked and keep you coming back for more!! Sam and Amy have HISTORY and not all of it happy and joyful!! They both have demons to conquer and love to rekindle. Find out how they battle crazy friends and difficult family and ONE CRAZY trip to the emergency room. Absolutely LOVED IT!!
This was cute, but I am not a big fan of Sam and Amy. I found their interactions a bit forceful. However, Darla was awesome as usual. Tons of laughter in between drama. Recommended for a light, comforting & sassy read!

Довольно мило, однако я не большой фанат Сэма и Эйми. Мне их диалог показался натужным. Однако, Дарла как всегда всех затмевала. Смех сквозь слёзы в этой уютной комедии ошибок. Рекомендую, но с колебаниями.
I'm reviewing this from my own personal copy that I dug up on my kindle. :-)
I read this series when it first came out, but I wasn't recording everything on GR yet. I was given the opportunity to blog about the series, and I leapt on it. (Another post will come later, but that one is super seekrit)
This is the second book of this stellar series, and it's a "what could've been, what will be" story. It starts off a little slow, revealing the backstory a little at a time - while being in the present - mostly with Amy, when she sees Sam after a four year absence from her life.
Amy and Sam both have baggage, some that come from each other, and some that come from difficult home lives. They manage to add onto that with present day issues, and it's a perfect storm of angst.
The side characters add so much to this book. Darla who has a rocky path to friendship with Amy, and is in the previous book AND next book with her relationship to the band. Trevor, Liam, & Joe - the other band members - who are friends to both Sam and Amy from their youths. And we also meet Tyler in this installment. He doesn't have a big part here, but he'll have his own book later on.
To say Amy and Sam's relationship is complicated is putting things mildly. They had a lot of things to work through, most of it had been caused by terribly unfortunate, and sometimes tragic, circumstances - that were handled badly when they were young.
Now they're all grown up, but stumble through old hurts to get to the heart of what matters. Neither one wants to admit to things that might make them seem like "less than" in the others' eyes, but vulnerability is always hard. It helps the reader to connect to the characters, and by the time things get heated up, I was in tears.
This will always be one of my favorite series', and it was nice to come back to it again. Forever Five Stars.
This is Amy and Sam’s story. Apparently this is not the first book, but that’s ok.
Let me start by saying the book was very poetic at times and beautifully written.
I started out liking this book. I wanted to love it. If you’ve read my blog, then you know how I feel about the author being the artist and the book being their art. I hate criticizing someone’s art. But by accepting this ARC, I have a responsibility to give an HONEST review.
I want to soften the blow by acknowledging what I liked about the book…but that’s difficult. I don’t want to give anything away, but I will say 2 words. Male. Stripper. And he takes the job after they get together without her knowledge. This is also a sort of second chance romance. But what drives me crazy is when the woman takes the man back initially no questions. He just kisses her, and she kisses him back! What is that? It totally ruffles my feminist feathers. To make matters worse, the whole stripper thing is never resolved, nor is the fact that he had another woman’s tongue down his throat.
Here’s the thing, I have read amazing books, where the relationships are “complicated. S. C. Stephens Thoughtless series is one of my favorites. But there is accountability. There is atonement. This was not like that. For me, this was all angst without the happy. I’m sorry. I would try another book by this author. Again…especially to the author, I'm sorry:(

It seems like all of the guys in RAOC came from jacked-up families...but I think Sam's was the worst. Sam's father, a minister and pastor of a church, was a verbally and physically abusive alcoholic. People like him are the ones that give Christianity--all organized religion, in fact--a bad name.
I couldn't stand Amy.
She was a jealous, judgmental bitc# who excelled at jumping to conclusions. She also had a screwed up family, but that does not excuse her behavior in my book.
Amy and Sam had attended different high schools, but they had come to know one another through their participation in debate. It was mentioned about 50 million times that "something" happened four-and-a-half years ago (at the end of their senior year), but it took forever to find out exactly what happened. And even when we're told the gist of what happened, there was SOOO much more to the story!
The first book was funny almost all the way through, but I found myself looking for the funny in this one. It comes in chapter 6. I won't give any of it away, but Darla is a riot!
This book started off kinda slow. I didn't like Amy from the beginning and she was never redeemed in my eyes. I totally loved all the guys in this one--Trevor, Joe, Liam--but especially Sam. Maybe it's because, after all he'd suffered, he was still strong, and loving and kind. I didn't like this one as much as the first one, but I am going to give the next book a try.
Darla is back! Only this isn't Darla's story but, you do get glimpses into her Trevor and Joe's relationship. This is Sam and Amy's story. Sam is the drummer for Random Acts of Crazy and Amy was his debate rival in high school. During their final debate competition the two share a passionate kiss and Sam agrees to go to Amy's prom with her. Only when she wins their debate he walks out and she never hears from him again. Fast forward four years and he's back in her life. The relationship is new and there are unknowns, secrets, between the two that are keeping them from completely being together. Along with him comes the rest of the band and Darla. Darla becomes a lifeline for Amy when she has no one else to confide in. Amy isn't crazy like Darla but she does get herself into some crazy situations. I laughed so hard when she had her phone situation. I did enjoy this audio and will be picking up the next book and continue the series.
Being bold and going after what has always been yours... Sam was forced to walk away from the only person his tortured heart ever loved. Verbally and physically abused by his own father, he locked himself up in his music and isolated himself from the world barely surviving and living off his friends... until Amy, his unrequited love serendipitously pops back into his life and everything falls back into place. Follow these two lost souls and watch how they fill in the empty spaces of their hearts by reading each other and tapping into their cores... feeling whole again. Heart breaking, romantic, hilariously funny ( Well... Darla makes her appearance known... enough said!) and fulfilling... a story which has it all! 5 Soul-Searching Stars for "Random Acts Of Trust" and resolving conflicts.
I was expecting a funny, witty and hot book from this author. Well, she definitely didn’t disappoint! Sam and Amy’s story is a second chance romance told in dual points of view. I was laughing from the first chapter in the book and the fun lasted until the end. We get a glimpse at the rest of Sam’s band mates and their struggles and successes. I loved the flow of the book and the fact that the author revealed the truth behind Amy and Sam’s history bit by bit and kept me engaged until the end. I also loved that the author is not shy in describing sex scenes and making them scorching hot! Weather you are already a fan and have read some of the author’s work or weather you are new to her work, I highly recommend this addictive book with highly likeable characters!
Okay, i like book one. I loved this one. It had me cracked up. I laughed so hard. I like Sam for the getgo. He´s sweet.. is there such a thing as a sweet badboy?! `cause then its him. He´s not really a badboy. But he looks like one and yeah, i have this picture in my head of him, and let me tell you. DAMN!! Amy is a sweet girl, who´s just trying to be someone in her family, but her mum is a cunt and only her brother is good enough. When we meet him in the book, i wanted to punch his lights out. Such an ass. But she is so funny and a little unlucky... page one lets you know what i mean. :-P
We meet Darla, Travor and Joe in this one too. Not much, but enough for me to quetion if it really is a happy ending for the trio.
Although I basically liked the main characters, the story just seemed to wander a bit much. The biggest turnoff was the side story with Amy and Darla and the cell phone. Perhaps this was supposed to be funny, but it just made me dislike Darla and it caused Amy a lot of pain. The only thing it added to the story was bringing Darla and Amy together and I think there could have been an easier way to achieve this.
Darla is an odd character, sometimes I really like her, other times she just annoys me. I liked the sections on debates with Amy, Sam, and Joe. Having read the first book helped but wasn't necessary so it can be read as a stand-alone but reading the first books gives a better understanding the Trevor/Joe/Darla relationship.
This was an emotional roller-coaster. It’s funny and heart-rending and everything else in between. There’s not much I love more than to see a much deserved second chance come to be. Amy and Sam are a couple who badly needed another shot to get it right. Theirs is a story about truth, how it’s created, how it’s re-created, and the family dysfunctions it can hide. It also shows us the miracles that can be accomplished by speaking our truth. This book has lots of side-splittingly funny moments that help lighten up the darkly poignant ones. There are several one-liners in this story that I will be cherishing for as long as I can remember them. (So for about the next forty minutes or so) I can’t wait to read more Random.
