When Adam Kissed Me

Rate this book
Nine and a half weeks ago, Joe Massone got the surprise of his life when his straight best friend and secret crush, Adam, kissed him. At the time, Adam was recovering from an accident that left him with temporary amnesia and broken ribs, so Joe isn’t sure if he should take it seriously. Is Adam really gay? Or was the blow to his head to blame? Having secretly loved Adam since they were teenagers, Joe doesn’t want to get his hopes up and have his heart broken.

Despite that first kiss, Joe and Adam are still in limbo—now more than friends, but not quite lovers. Adam’s injuries have meant they can’t take their relationship to the next level, and for Joe, not much has changed from when they were just best friends and roommates. He starts to think neither of them is ready to take that final step.

Patience stretched to the limit, Adam makes plans to break the stalemate. But when Joe sabotages things by inviting their friends along, Adam is left to wonder if their new relationship is over before it’s even started. Before he gives up, though, he’s determined to prove to Joe he wants more than just a kiss.

CHRIS SCULLY lives in Toronto, Canada. She grew up spinning romantic stories in her head and always dreamed of one day being a writer even though life had other plans. Her characters have accompanied her through career turns as a librarian and an IT professional, until finally, to escape the tedium of a corporate day job, she took a chance and began putting her daydreams down on paper.

Tired of the same old boy-meets-girl stories, she found a home in M/M romance and strives to give her characters the happy endings they deserve. She divides her time between a mundane 9-5 cubicle job and a much more interesting fantasy life. When she’s not working or writing (which isn’t often these days) she loves puttering in the garden and traveling. She is an avid reader and tries to bring pieces of other genres and styles to her stories. While her head is crammed full of all the things she’d like to try writing, her focus is always on the characters first. She describes her characters as authentic, ordinary people—the kind of guy you might meet on the street, or the one who might be your best friend.

Although keeping up with social media is still a struggle given her schedule, she does love to hear from readers.

OMG I LOVE THESE TWO GUYS!! I must say that Chris Scully’s writing suits me just fine. I read this with smile on my face and all right, fine, I also had sniffy moments (my sappy side is showing *grin*).

In this novella, took place 9 1/2 weeks after Adam kissed Joe in , we finally get Joe’s perspective (Inseparable was written from Adam’s point-of-view) as he dodged the worry about Adam’s feeling for him (will it changed?) to suffering from a case of horniness and blue balls (he couldn’t have sex with Adam, Adam had broken ribs and concussion!). I found it adorable because Joe was trying so HARD not to have sex with Adam (haha!). But at the same times, he was so scared that Adam would go back to his ‘straight ways.

I could be such a sucker for best-friends-to-lovers story and this one had what I needed. There were a couple flashbacks on important moments on Joe and Adam’s life, so it was clear how these two men had been part of each other's life for so long. I was so happy that the two men were actually TALKING about the issue. And after they straighten things up (no pun intended), I found it quite humorous that Adam was soooo ready to embark the joy of gay sex, even bringing up possible kinky sex, and Joe was totally horrified (haha!).

It was sweet and cute and romantic, and I loved everyone here, including the friends and Joe's Italian family. I even thought that Adam and Joe’s friend, Peter, might have a good story to tell there! A Greek boy with a Greek boy love sounded good, no?

Another story from Chris Scully that made me all smile with happiness. I would definitely read another book by her.

How could you not love these two guys? I was so lucky to have this to read straight after and it was everything I wanted in a follow up. Gave me the warm and fuzzies again and was just as delightful as the first time you meet Joe and Adam. This was the icing on the cake and both books are now in my faves, keepers and will read again shelves. A little bit longer than Inseperable, sweet and sexy and so enjoyable ... Can't fault it!

Stupid book. Make me cry. *presses lips together, blinks back tears* Stupid sappy book. *shakes it off*

I don't know if it was my mood or what, but this story was exactly what I needed. It was so sweet, and it made me laugh, and the boys were such a cute couple, and I was so touched by their love for each other, and...and... *hugs ereader and sighs* and it just made me so happy :)

Side note:
This is a follow-up to Inseparable

Sequel to but this time from Joe's POV.

It's nine and half weeks after Adam's accident and the men are in a state of limbo. Adam's health has taken a few more hits leaving Joe unsure of his footing in the change of their relationship.

I really enjoyed how this played out. Still lots of insecurity here for both men but they're communicating honestly with each other with only a few bumps in the road. I like how they acknowledge that they've been in a holding pattern in their lives afraid to grow up because that would have meant leaving each other behind and that was never going to be an option.

The flashbacks here are great, especially the one that explained the rose bed sheets. I wonder if there will be more in the series maybe focusing on

I was excited to hear that this sequel was coming and it was so much fun to read. Some angst, some sweet moments and hotly written sex. I'm glad to see these guys finally get it together and that I got to read it happen.

This is the sequel to Inseparable, where after Adam was injured by a car and suffered amnesia, he finally reveals to Joe that he cares for him and wants a relationship. Friends for years and roommates, they are just starting out and things are shaky and new, and When Adam Kissed Me starts 9 and a half weeks after the end of Inseparable, and the reader this time gets their story from Joe’s point of view.

This book gave me all the oooey gooey feels. What struck me most about this book and the previous book is that Adam and Joe just feel like normal dudes…awkward and geeky, but normal. They aren’t some smooth, practiced flirters, they don’t know how to do every sexual move like their nicknames should be “Gods of Sex, they don’t look like models, and I can appreciate that.

This focused mostly on one night. A night where the reader sees there is a pattern of Joe avoiding spending alone time with Adam, partially because Adam is still healing from his injuries and Joe wants to touch him and be intimate with him and also because he’s convinced himself that Adam will change his mind about their relationship and want to revert back to being friends. Meanwhile, Joe doesn’t understand why Adam is avoiding him and won’t move past kissing.

This is pretty short, and while GoodReads has it as 100+ pages, when I converted it to PDF format, it only came out to 55 pages, so I’m not sure. Anyways, this is easy and the guys do a bit of sweet flirting, a little bit of jealousy over a pizza boy and a coffee barista, and then some adorable smexin with some mutual blowjobs.

What made this for me, though, were the flashbacks. I’m not normally a huge fan of flashbacks, but Gahhhhhhhhhhhhhhh, SO. CUTE. Ohh mahhh gahhh, the story behind the rose sheets and we finally get to see that moment that led up to Adam’s accident. Just all of it.

Joe’s Italian family and their shared friends were nice, too. In this just enough, funny and understanding. I really need Peter’s story as well. I’m not 100% sure if he’s bi or gay, but I definitely got that vibe, so I’m hoping we see a future story with him.

So this was a very nice follow-up to Adam and Joe and the reader finally sees them connecting on a more intimate level and moving their relationship forward. There was even mentioning of possible future kids! I heart these two men so much, and I hope we get more from them.

You know what?? I'm happy to say that I'm about 95% satisfied with this sequel. It definitely expanded on , for it brought better insight into Adam and Joe's relationship. There are flashbacks, which reveal glimpses of the important moments in their lives and how their feelings (and the choices they made) shaped who they are today.

This had my favorite kind of angst which is all about relationship insecurity. Joe is afraid Adam might change his mind, at the same time feeling extraordinary pressure for being his first in everything male. Adam is afraid Joe has changed his mind, that Joe doesn't feel as strongly as he does, no longer desiring him. There's a big elephant in the room bellowing for attention, especially since Adam is now finally getting over his health issues.

So my big wish for page after page of virgin smex was not necessarily granted. However, this had fabulous UST, and the smex that did occur was hot!! This was a wonderful friends-to-lovers tale, and it was extremely satisfying to see Adam and Joe, who have loved each other for so long, finally free to express those feelings without fear. Funny and grounded, it also brought tears - and that either indicates great story telling or I was fighting something stuck in my eye (at least 3 times).

Overall, highly recommended despite that darn missing 5%!!

4.5 stars and ♥♥♥♥ from me for this one, a lovely sequel to Inseparable, full of romance, grins and weepy moments...just the sort of book to be curled up on the sofa with on a damp and miserable Hump Day afternoon!!

Mini review, not many words needed from me. Do Joe and Adam finally get it together. ..well, you'll have to read the darn thing to find out BUT I had a huge grin on my face when I'd finished it, so that may give you a clue!! Loved it, and any more follow-ups would be most gratefully received.

This picks up right where the first book ended. Adam and Joe are together, but now what?

This was another winner for me. We have angst, yes we do.

description

But it was insecurity angst about the relationship. Now that sort of angst I can handle!

description

After that it was sweet sexy times.

If you like a good best-friends-to-lovers story, this one is definitely a must read.

This was a really sweet story and I loved it more than the first book. I thought Adam and Joe were really lovely together, even if it did take them a while to get it together. I adored the two of them when they did, though. The little jealousy scene was nice too. It showed real emotion and I thought it was well placed.

Definitely a book I would recommend to people who read that first one.

Adam and Joe! Adam and Joe! Oh how I love you!

This is the sequel to , where Adam had amnesia and they finally realized they were in love with each other. Now it's 9 1/2 weeks later and we get to see how things are going from Joe's POV...and things have been a little rocky. It gets a little angsty but, of course it all works out beautifully in the end!

These guys have so much chemistry! I loved the sweetness and the humor and the sexiness. It's been a long time since I didn't want a story to end...I kept looking at the countdown time on my Kindle and wishing it was going up, and not down. Love these guys and their family! Such a wonderful, feel good story.

I would be happy to revisit with Joe and Adam anytime in the future... *hint hint*

Sweet, romantic book but not without some angst in it. Many little things are those that anyone that ever been in a romantic relationship could relate with. Bringing home 'unwanted' guest? Oblivious to other people's coming on? Thinking that you can hide from best friends and family?

They are all there.

Cautions!
After reading this book, you may not be able to see the following without blushing:
Banana (split)
Over friendly sales person (including barista, pizza boy)
Light rash on people's face.

Unfortunately I did not enjoy this one as much as I did the first book. Still, it was a nice, sweet story, but to be honest, I expected more sweetness and less misunderstandings, and when things didn't turn out my way, I got a bit disappointed. Still, it was nice and I liked seeing Adam and Joe together at last.

This was a nice sequel to Inseparable. This is the type of stories that is just a feel good read and leaves a smile on your face. So much time wasted between them, but at least they got it right in the end.

I really enjoyed and was glad to finally get around to reading this sequel.
This one is from Joe's POV and it's cute to see him suffering. ( I might be a teeny tiny bit evil)
He has loved Adam all his life. He's his beat friend, they really have been Inseparable almost their whole lives.
After a scare they finally admit their feelings for each other, which of course brings a whole new set of problems with it.
Joe is a little insecure, he thinks and thinks and over thinks all the things that could go wrong and worries too much. Finally Adam has enough.
There are some touching flashbacks to important milestones in their relationship over the years and we see them finally, finally understand where they are now.
It's cute, it's funny, it's sweet and I loved Joe and all his sniffling!

Initial impressions- just finished this and I loved it! Such a satisfying follow-up to Inseparable- and for me this was the better book. As others have noted, the author uses flashbacks to relate back events and this can get tricky as I find they can easily interrupt the flow and detract from the reading experience. But here the flashbacks were used judiciously and provided crucial information and insight to the reader. So romantic and with the right amount of angst. If a book can make me tear up and smile at the same time, it's 5 stars for me.

What a lovely follow up to . I fell hard for Adam and Joe with those few pages and was delighted to see we get more of them, from Joe’s POV with When Adam Kissed Me.

It’s been nine and a half weeks since that kiss. The boys are trying to find their way from friends to lovers, well minus the lovers bit. With Adam’s accident and then illness they aren’t doing much more than literally sleeping together. With things so new to both of them; having loved your best friend in secret and silence since childhood and then have your dream come true…yeah. You would be a bit of a mess with that situation. Second guessing every little thing, wondering if this is really happening? I know it made me anxious and I was just reading it.
N INE weeks. That’s how long it had been since Adam kissed me on Christmas Eve and changed everything.

Nine and a half weeks, to be exact. Just like the movie—only without all the sex.

These two. I so wanted them to just dive right into their new relationship but they are almost timid with each other. It doesn’t help that Adam gets sick and Joe starts to worry about losing him again. But you can’t live in fear, work late night and avoid the love of your life that is in your actual dance space day after day can you? Joe tries but the night that he invites the guys over to watch a game and sees those sheets on the bed this deal with him and Adam changes. It has to.

The flashbacks we got to the younger Adam and Joe were so touching. I loved how we learned more about their friendship, life/family and love for one another but the angst in this, even though it was short, hurt.

I loved the boys once they finally FULLY came together, pun intended, it was so sexy and so sweet at the same time. The talking about what they liked and what Adam liked about Joe...so good! Oh and I loved it when Celia stopped by. Seeing Joe and Adam that way with so much that could and should be in their future brought me to tears. It was so endearing and so wonderful. And that end chat with Joe’s mom? The water works came out in full force then. Damn tear ducts and emotions.
“I really don’t want to freak you out, Adam. But you’re it for me. Like capital I, capital T, flashing neon lights, confetti, and streamers—the whole nine yards.

“Is there a marching band too? Because that would be awesome.

I am going to be short with this one, else I begin my gush fest. I simply adored the story of Joe and Adam from both books. I have found another author in Chris Scully that I can add to my happy place shelf.

This I like about this book: I love these two boys connection, how they're so insync and in love. I love how real these characters are. In fact this is probably my favourite aspect of the book, Joe is Italian and it actually mentions having to much hair and not in an attractive way and he's got a bit to much extra on the love handles. It even mentions discreetly pulling a public hair out of your mouth after a blow job, I just thought that was hilarious. It was also nice and sexy a few good scenes with a good build up.

What I didn't like about the book: honestly I struggled to get past this (and that's why I gave it 3 and not 4 stars), I don't get what Joes reasons were for freaking out and avoiding Adam at the beginning. So he wasn't sure if they were boyfriends, despite kissing and groping (no orgasms) and snuggling in bed for 9 weeks.... Yes they weren't having sex but that was because Adam was still sore and recovering from his car accident, so Joe decides to avoid being alone with Adam (because that always works out), because he's horny all the time?. Then he's all worried Adam isn't really gay, while in the same scene remembering Adam trying to initiate sex a few weeks ago, I mean is this the guy you've known for 15 years or what? Just talk to him!

I received When Adam Kissed Me from the author through the M/M Romance Group’s Don’t Buy My Love program for an honest review. This book is the second in the Inseparable series and is told in first person through Joe Massone’s eyes. The first book was told through the eyes of Adam, Joe’s roommate and secret crush.

Veeeery cute follow-up to !! I have to admit, though, that I liked the first story better - I felt pretty impatient with Joe here, all his avoidance and hiding instead of simply trying to communicate his feelings and fears. Yeah, yeah, I know, communication is anything but simple most of the time, but still. It would have made everything so much easier! So. Much. Easier.

Still a nice read, I loved Joe's family (although I'd probably go batshit crazy if it was me in direct contact with them) and I loved the development between them and Adam, when Adam too finally lets go of his doubts. That was really beautiful to see and I absolutely adored this story for it all the more.

4.3 stars!

This is book #2 of the Series and Can't be read as a Standalone.

I enjoyed this book. It was pretty much everything I wanted after reading book #1 - .

I was so glad we got to see more of Joe's big Italian family here, (especially his mother's relationship with Adam).

I just love how this family accepted, nurtured, and practically "adopted" Adam as one of their family members. It warms my heart!

This book was as Sweet as the first; but in this one Joe and Adam's story has a chance to be more properly developed. There are flashbacks of their past (which I loved!); and we get to know Joe more, as this book is told in his POV.

I, also, loved how we got to know about Adam's and Joe's insecurities; and that they actually properly addressed and discussed them with each other.

Joe and Adam's relationship does evolve in this book and them together as a couple are sweet, funny and hot!

Overall, if you want a quick, sweet read about 2 guys that are in love with each other since always, but still have some things to work out; this is probably a book you'll enjoy reading.

Nine and a half weeks after the end of Inseparable this story starts about the two childhood best friends turn to lovers, Adam & Joe.
The boys have been friends for almost eighteen years becoming instant friends when they first met in elementary school.

the day he came home from summer camp and announced he was going to marry you.
Adam & Joe have stayed together attending elementary, high school and college. Getting a job at the same company and becoming roommates.

Book 2 is told from Joe’s POV relating his own frustrations and insecurities about his deep love for Adam.

This book concentrates on the built up towards their first night of making love. While Adam is doing everything to make their night special Joe is very hard trying to avoid being alone with Adam. He tells himself that he does that because Adam is still healing from his injuries and because they’ve have shared a bed in the nine and a half weeks they still have not been intimate and Joe badly wants to touch him and be intimate with Adam. But Joe is also convinced that Adam will regret their budding relationship and want to revert back to being friends, since Adam has never said THE words.
But Adam being very eager to take the next step in their relationship does not understand Joe’s behavior and gets more and more frustrated.

“You’re the one who’s been backing off. If you’re in such a hurry to get laid, then why the disappearing act? I’m not an idiot, Joe. You’ve been avoiding me, finding any excuse for us not to be alone. I can practically feel you pulling away.

“I’ve never known anyone to work so hard at not getting laid.

I loved the flashbacks on Joey and Adam’s youth, making us understand how these two have been such a big and important part of each other’s life for a very long time.
It was strange but at the same time so endearing to have them discussed the route their relationship was heading and I loved how eager Adam was to take their relationship to the next level and have gay sex.

Great story with a bunch of supporting characters, their friends and Joe’s large Italian family, made a great addition to this sweet and awesome romance.

I would really love to read Peter’s story
“The parents are on my case again. When are you getting married, and all that junk. Trust me—you don’t know pressure until you’ve had your Greek mother cry in front of you because she doesn’t have any grandbabies.
“We’ll make it our top priority to find you a nice Greek girl this year.
“Maybe Pete needs a nice Greek boy instead, Adam murmured

This story picks up 9 weeks after Inseparable left off. Joe and Adam are moving forward excruciatingly slowly. They’ve turned kissing and heavy petting into an art form, but Joe always pulls the plug before they get to the next level. Adam is getting frustrated and beginning to think the worst. When Adam goes out of his way to set up a sexy evening for the two of them alone, determined to get laid, Joe unknowingly screws it all up by inviting their friends over for beer and pizza. These two seriously need to get on the same page!

Joe has loved Adam for so long, he’s terrified that Adam will wake up and change his mind, decide he isn’t really gay and break Joe’s heart. If Joe takes that next step and they have sex, only for Adam to realize it’s not what he wants, Joe doesn’t think he’d survive that. So he only gives so much before he pulls back and puts the brakes on.

It took Adam more time to discover he was in love with his best friend. He went with the flow through high school and college and dated girls, because it was the way he was supposed to do things. Now that he’s gotten a taste of Joe and done some serious inner inventory, he knows exactly what and who he wants. He is not going to let Joe pull away, and he pulls out all the stops in a last ditch attempt to seduce his best friend/lover/roommate.

The best friends turned lovers storyline has been stretched to the limits as of late. But Scully has revived it, breathed new life into it with the story of Joe and Adam! It’s not just the story of them, it’s the story of their past and uncertain future woven into the love they share that make this story so different. Flashbacks give the reader more in depth knowledge of the many years they’ve shared as friends. An upset Adam crawling into Joe’s bedroom window, comforted by his best friend. An unsure Joe sharing the secret of his sexuality with Adam, fearing that rejection. Adam’s moms death and subsequent abandonment by his father, only to be taken in by Joe’s family, of course! And that fateful night, the night of the accident that set the events in motion that would bring these two together, forever.

This is a must read for my fellow hopeless romantics! A story full of meat and some sexy make out sessions. Strong secondary characters set the pace as Joe and Adam come to realize they are soul mates.

This is the second book in a series that must be read in order to fully appreciate the characters. Check out Pixie’s review of book 1, Inseparable.. /review/show...

I was provided a copy for free in exchange for an honest review.

When Adam Kissed Me is a sequel to , however it stands well on its own. Taking place nine weeks after the first book Joe is struggling with his insecurities about Adams feelings for him and his own desperation to finally sleep with his best friend-turned-boyfriend. He goes to some lengths to keep himself from being alone with Adam such as inviting friends over unexpectedly. What he doesn't realize is that Adam has insecurities and desires of his own.

As I've said, while this story is part of a series, it reads just fine on it's own. Enough information is given to the reader that they understand what is going on without it feeling like a recap of the first story. The story, told from Joe's POV, is sweet and funny with just a touch of heartache in some places. I really got a sense of Joe's personality and voice. I instantly felt a connection to the character as I read. I empathized with his insecurities and I felt relieved when he resolved those feelings.

Adam is an absolute sweetheart with a vulnerable side he tries to cover with sarcasm and humor. His frustration with Joe is completely understandable and I never felt like the conflict between them was contrived or blown out of proportion. Once I learned more about his past I just wanted to wrap Adam up in a big hug. Speaking of the past, I really enjoyed the flashbacks. They are sweet glimpses into the past that help you see why Joe and Adam have such a strong bond.

The supporting characters (their friends, Joe's family) were all entertaining and fun to read about. They all made jokes at the couple's expense leading to some pretty funny and embarrassing moments for the two. Despite its short length, When Adam Kissed Me is a satisfying story that gives you just enough without the end feeling too abrupt.

This book was provided for free by the author in exchange for an honest review.

This is the follow up to Inseparable. I had read that novel a while ago and I have to be honest that I don't remember the details well. However, this did not inhibit the reading of this book, and it can be read as a standalone. In fact, if you look at the covers, they couldn't be more different.

Adam has recently recovered from his injuries suffered from a pedestrian/car accident. Joe is his gay best friend and roommate who has always had a tendre for him. Joe finally gets upset at being around Adam with no chance of a romantic relationship, so he tells Adam he wants to move out of the apartment they share. Adam revels that he has feelings for Joe, but then the accident occurs. This book begins after Adam has recovered for a few weeks but they haven't actually consummated the relationship.

The most jarring aspect of the book, I thought, were the flashbacks in time to earlier events in their lives. Don't get me wrong, I thought it was great to read them; and it helps so you know why they behave the way they do currently in the story. However, I really wanted to know what was happening with Adam and Joe in real-time. I wanted that HEA now, please. And once the flashbacks stopped I thought the pacing was great. Joe, the narrator, was so so loving but also unsure at the same time. And he threw in some beautiful Italian phrases about how he felt about Adam, so what's not to love? Overall a very nice short read with a lovely couple that deserves to be together. I love friends to lovers stories and this one was done well.

In the book before this one, best friends Adam and Joe have an argument that is followed by Adam getting hit by a car, followed by Adam waking up and kissing Joe. Happiness and joy. Or is it? Because now that time is passing Joe is questioning whether it was real. Did Adam mean it? Was it just the amnesia? Would he return to BFF status once he was fully healed? It’s making Joe overthink things. For his part, Adam is healing and very injured but he wants to cuddle, to kiss, to just be with Joe.

This story is told first person from the point of view of Joe and you really get a sense of how much he loves Adam and yet how afraid he is that if this isn’t real it will ruin everything. He’s suffering from terminal horniness (can’t have sex with an injured man), he’s so terrified he will lose the best friend he loves so much and he can’t figure out how to make it right. So of course what he does is make it epically wrong. He keeps bringing friends over so he doesn’t have to be alone with Adam, he makes comments that hurt Adam (inadvertently but still) and he generally gives off the vibe that it was a mistake and he doesn’t want Adam. Worse, that he doesn’t have faith in Adam. *Face palm, Joe, get with it!

It’s a friends to lovers story that works so well. Worked even more because of the stupid moments, the insecurity and the fear. That seemed real. I love Joe’s family, especially his mama, “teaching Adam to cook. He needed that. This is just so sweet and wonderful.
