When Macaroni sings a song,Cheese will never sing along.Mac likes to jump and play and sing, But Cheese does not like anything. Macaroni and Cheese are best friends, yet they couldn’t be more different! Mac likes to pounce and bounce and jump, but Cheese just sits there like a lump. But when Mac runs into a problem with a gust of wind, Cheese stops being a grumpy grump long enough to help save his friend’s favorite hat. Written in the style of P. D. Eastman’s classic Big Dog . . . Little Dog, this modern-day alley-cat odd couple will delight beginning readers.

My son loved that he knew the majority of the words in this book, and that there were plenty of words that he was able to sound out. Great book and he enjoyed that in the end Mac and Cheese were friends.
Very cute, and a nice story for a low energy parent
One of the cats is a grump, and picky, but in the end it saves the other cat's hat and says that just sitting relaxing with someone you love is worthwhile.
“Mac and Cheeseâ€ by Sarah Weeks explores a friendship between two cats. Mac loves to go on adventures and try new things. However, Cheese is a grumpy cat that does not want to do anything but relax. He dislikes the weather and complains about Mac’s smelly fish. Through the illustrations it is also clear what attitude each cat has, because “compositionalÌýfeatures can reveal much about how pictures cause us to interpret the relationshipsâ€ (Nodelman 136). Most of the time, Cheese is facing away from Mac with an annoyed expression. However, Mac is always smiling and looks eagerly at Cheese. As the story progresses, Mac finds a hat that he loves to wear, but Cheese is unamused with Mac’s new find. Unfortunately, the hat blows away in the wind and Mac is distraught. Cheese chases after the hat, because he knew it meant so much to Mac. Although it was very out of character for Cheese to participate in any physical movement, it was touching to see Cheese go out of his comfort zone because of his love for Max. These actions show young readers that friends are worth helping and are meant to care about each other, despite not always sharing the same interests.
Cute little book for kids who are learning to read (I'd say K to 1st grade in general). Definitely follows in the tradition of The Cat in the Hat and other popular Seuss works. One such line, "This fish is cold and very old. I do not like fish old and cold," almost winks at Seuss. Kids who like the Elephant & Piggie books might like this one, too.
Mac and Cheese are quite the pair. Mac is outgoing and happy, Cheese is the exact opposite in every way. He doesn't like to do anything but sit in peace and quiet with his friend Mac. But when Mac loses his hat, Cheese does everything he doesn't like to get the hat back for his friend.
Mac and Cheese are about two best friends who are polar opposites. Mac loves to run and jump and be silly while Cheese is a grump and likes to do nothing. Mac one day asks why are you so grumpy cheese and cheese tells Mac that he likes just hanging out doing nothing with Mac. They learn to appreciate each other for who they are and still remain friends.
The main theme I found in this book would be that it is okay to be different from one another. We all don't need to like the same thing and do the same thing, it makes us who we are.
When reading this book, it reminded me of the friendships that I have. We are all different but that's what makes each friendship so unique and special.
This is a great beginner book to read in the classroom. It also rhymes on each page which makes it very entertaining to read.
My granddaughter loved this book about how two friends can get along even though they like very different things.
My granddaughter loved this book. She's is five and loved all the rhyming words. It's perfect for beginning readers. The two cats have a friendship that shows young children how two friends don't always have to like the same things. They can be completely different, yet still spend time with each other. They can still care, help, and take care of each other, even though they like different things. A lesson many grown ups could use, in today's political environment.
Best friends who are OPPOSITES! Does this simplistic trope ever get old? Not for picture book authors like Sarah Weeks. Still she does her best to make this lighthearted book delightful.
Here's a sample of two-dimensional fictional characters who may delight very young readers:
When Macaroni sings a song, Cheese will never sing along.
Mac likes to jump and play and sing, but Cheese does not like anything.
Rhymes, of course, help to develop the ears of readers, making it easy for them to understand how to recognize the sounds of the language they're reading.
FIVE STARS for this pleasantly entertaining exercise for readers.
This is a cute and funny early reader. Little ones will like the different things these two crazy characters like and dislike in this well written book. The rhyming words will help the early readers match the sounds and the words together. This is made for from 4-8 year olds. Mac likes to eat but Cheese is very picky. Cheese does not like old or cold fish. "Nice day," says Mac. " It's hot" says Cheese. Mac likes to play, Cheese says, go away. Mac likes to sing. Cheese does not like anything. I left a lot of things for you to discover about Mac and Cheese. Friends to the end.
Macaroni the cat is an energetic extrovert who is outgoing and full of life. Cheese the cat is a polar opposite. It seems as if the friendship can't last between the two until Cheese leaves his comfort zone to help his friend. You think maybe he's changed, but instead has made a grand gesture and is still the same Cheese as before. But it's okay because Macaroni realizes the friend he has in Cheese...just the way he is.
Several months back, I tried to get my son to read this book, and he wasn’t able to. So for all these months we’ve been practicing. He did so much better this time and almost read it all without any help. The rhyming scheme made it easier for him to sound out words he wasn’t familiar with. It’s definitely a book he’d like to read again and maybe completely on his on next time.
a good book for children learning to read My granddaughter read it to me with a little help and encouragement. She liked the story and the interactions. Thankfully, it's on Kindle Unlimited, because for a 15-minute read, buying the physical books would be too expensive. She thought the interaction between the cats was funny and wondered how two so completely different cats could be friends. She was glad they managed to enjoy some peaceful time together.
This story was a silly tale that was both useful for a teacher to read to their students and a student to read to a peer. This is from the simply sentences used in this story, that a second grader wouldn't find much difficulty in reading. This being said, this is an appropriate book to have in an elementary classroom setting.
Cat fantasy book. This is an I can read reader good to have in your classroom for developing readers. It has a lot of rhyming in it very similar to Dr. Seuss making it easy to read. It’s about friendship, and differences. Good for ages 4-12. Text sets: friendship, difference are ok, Cat fantasy, rhyming.

I like that it shows different personalities between the friends, however I wish that Cheese, the more melancholy of the pair, wasn't presented as a grump. It's ok to be more melancholy and shouldn't be presented as such a negative trait.
This book is one that for kids can show how differences still allow friendships to still exsist. The illustrations are really five star. Though the story i wish was a little more. Yet it does have a good lesson to teach on how differences are ok. Which is very nice. Definitely recommend this book.
Basically exactly as the (frustratingly mandatory) headline says: this is a cute book with a nice story and adorable art, but the rhyming pattern feels forced and clunky. I think it would be much better if it were just presented as a normal story instead.
I liked that this book showed that there are more than one personalities. It showed that each can be appreciated in its setting and that one can go beyond comfort to please another. I read this book to my son. I think he may understand why mommy is different but will jump and pounce and swim and bounce to help him whenever he needs me.
Cute book about 2 cats: one boisterous and the other just wants to be quiet. It seems to be told from Mac's side because Cheese seems grumpy all the time but, as the story goes on we find out he's actually showing boundaries. Mac figures out how to show friendship to Cheese by being quiet with him sometimes too.
Fun read! It’s all about individuality and being unique.
I enjoyed the read, you can be two individuals that are always together but has two different personalities, two unique individuals. The great thing about that is, there is understanding between the two that they are not the same and they have come to respect each other’s identity.
Macaroni and Cheese are best friends, yet they couldn't be more different! Mac likes to pounce and bounce and jump, but Cheese just sits there like a lump. But when Mac runs into a problem with a gust of wind, Cheese stops being a grumpy grump long enough to help save his friend's favorite hat. The students will read the book and then write a sentence about the friendship.
One of my favorites to read to my little ones. They are Mac and I am Cheese... lol... The rhymes are great and because of it the kiddos read along by memory. Lots of fun!!!!
I. LOVE. THIS. BOOK! The characters are ADORABLE! Rhyme and repetition were present, but it was just the plain cuteness of the characters that did me in! This series is a must purchase for my granddaughter!
We gave it a 5 star rating because my kids loved it-- the theme of the book is very good & offers a good lesson of how everyone is different, but that doesn't have to negatively effect their relationship.
I liked the book because it has a cat that has a friend but he doesn't want ,to play with him.But at the end his friend understand why he was a grumpy q.
I don't like it because you did not make it longer but I loved your book🤘 make a different story
I rated 5 stars because it tells an important lesson and I loved the book. I liked that they were being very nice and cheese was just being grumpy he didn't do anything not nice and he learned something new.
I usually read books before I read them with my 6 year old, and I really enjoyed this one. I can’t wait for him and I to read it together. I think he’ll love it too!
