THE SEVENTH INSTALLMENT OF THE GRAPHIC NOVEL ADAPTATION OF CASSANDRA CLARE’S BESTSELLING THE MORTAL INSTRUMENTS!

Approached by subjugates of the Manhattan clan, Simon is surprised when he follows them to a meeting not with Raphael but with Camille Belcourt, former head of the New York vampires. Wrongfully exiled by her successor—she says—Camille begs for Simon’s aid in reclaiming leadership on the promise of helping him master his powers. The Mark of Cain protects Simon from any real physical danger, but the same can’t be said for those he cares about. Can the ancient vampire be trusted by the new one?

The thrilling saga continues with gorgeous illustrations by artist Cassandra Jean, as well as an interlude with the band written exclusively for the graphic novel!

Cassandra Clare was born to American parents in Tehran, Iran and spent much of her childhood travelling the world with her family, including one trek through the Himalayas as a toddler where she spent a month living in her father’s backpack. She lived in France, England and Switzerland before she was ten years old.

Since her family moved around so much she found familiarity in books and went everywhere with a book under her arm. She spent her high school years in Los Angeles where she used to write stories to amuse her classmates, including an epic novel called “The Beautiful Cassandra based on a Jane Austen short story of the same name (and which later inspired her current pen name).

After college, Cassie lived in Los Angeles and New York where she worked at various entertainment magazines and even some rather suspect tabloids where she reported on Brad and Angelina’s world travels and Britney Spears wardrobe malfunctions. She started working on her YA novel, City of Bones, in 2004, inspired by the urban landscape of Manhattan, her favourite city. She turned to writing fantasy fiction full time in 2006 and hopes never to have to write about Paris Hilton again.
Cassie’s first professional writing sale was a short story called “The Girl’s Guide to Defeating the Dark Lord in a Baen anthology of humor fantasy. Cassie hates working at home alone because she always gets distracted by reality TV shows and the antics of her cats, so she usually sets out to write in local coffee shops and restaurants. She likes to work in the company of her friends, who see that she sticks to her deadlines.

City of Bones was her first novel. Sword Catcher is her most recent novel.

Unreal how long I have to wait for the next book because this was so enjoyable! Main storyline aside, I love all the messiness turns out romantic relationships in the supernatural world aren't spared from everyday drama too 😂 More please!!!

So here we are the first half of City of Fallen Angels, not one of my fave of the TMI books (we all know why I would hate City of Lost Souls but we’re not there…yet in graphic novel universe). ANYWAY! I actually really enjoyed this volume. It made me like the 4th book slightly more, but maybe just seeing a visual adaptation is why. Love see my boy Simon just literally fall apart 😭 no I actually don’t but he partially brought it upon himself. ANYWAY eagerly awaiting for the second half of COFA in volume 8!

*4.5

This was fun. I'll never get over the fact how she decided to place those two scenes right after each other. Absolute whiplash. Cracks me up every time. This one wasn't my favorite because there weren't any Magnus or Alec and the plot was... something. But seeing Simon being an idiot and his weird friendship with Jace was amazing.

Drama, teen angst, high stakes. What else are the Mortal Instruments about?

This volume is all about the daylighter, Simon, and how he is handling becoming a vampire. It was a nice exploration of him trying to cope with all these new things, and Simon was trying to live some sort of life but things don't go to plan when his mother finds out, and we see an intersection of when faith meets the supernatural.

Also, developing the wolf side of this world, with the introduction of Kyle and the Praetor Lupus.

Part 1 of City of fallen angels, Aka book 4 in the series, Aka the start of the 2nd trilogy. Nothing much happens in this volume compared to the others, but we are reintroduced to the world and we catch up with everyone. ❤️
____

⭐️ Favourite moments: (reminders)

Camila is back! And she wants revenge on Raphael. With Simon’s help.

Playboy Simon! Dating Izzy AND Maia. It was funny when they found out because both are badasses. The glaressss. 😂

Luke and Jocelyn are getting married! Malec are in a romantic vacation! Clace are officially a couple. Book 4 starts with so many ships sailing. 😆❤️

Intro to Kyle the werewolf. He wants to sing in Simon’s band. << They know he’s a vampire. 🤫

Jace keeps having nightmares about killing Clary He can’t catch a break! He stops sleeping.. He is exhausted.. 🥺

Simon used Persuasion on his mom.. it was heartbreaking. Her reaction when he told her the truth, his reaction, and then doing that to her.. 💔

Someone is killing former members of the Circle and leaving them in Downworlders territories. 💀

At this point CC was working on TID, Clockwork angel was out, and we get Brother Zachariah. My Jem. 🥹🤍 Back then I didn’t know Jem, and I didn’t know this was him.. Now I can swoon all I want. Also, this is why people recommend reading TID before book 4. I agree.

Intro to Catarina Loss, a blue Warlock.

Simon bites Maureen! She is his first real blood. And! It turns out that Kyle is the werewolf who turned Maia!

Clary finds a church with demon baby rituals and a Hydra demon! Izzy helps her take it down, and the volume ends. A little abrupt. 🤏🏼

No name mess here, but it’s interesting that when they can finally be together, Jace is avoiding her. 😂 I know it’s from the nightmares, but Yuickes.

I read this entire volume in two days. I borrowed it from the Cholla branch library. The first time I tried to get it I arrived too late at the library, so I had to get it the following day. I can't believe that this was just published like a month or two ago and my library already has it! I love them for that! I remember these scenes from by . I not too long ago was re-reading the book via Eaudiobook from my library XD. I wish they would put the scene where Simon and Jace go to the supermarket and some girls are staring at Jace XD. I hope that part comes in the next volume. Anyways, I always love when these graphic novels get published and I love reading them SO much! I CANNOT wait for the next volume to be published! 💙

Yet another TMI Graphic Novel that suffered through distribution issues that made it hard for me to obtain this book at all!

Distribution issues aside the book was another loveable instalment in the graphic novel series that mostly banks on nostalgia.

This volume picks up at the start of City of Fallen Angels and manages to tell the story fairly accurately to its original source, helping to bring well beloved characters to life and brining extra flavour to side characters I hadn’t particularly cared about in the novel.

Issues I had with this instalment was how flat Simon being banished by his mother fell compared to the original novel. That scene brought me to tears in the book and yet it just didn’t have the same impact visually.

The graphic novel series has been updated to reflect modern fashion and technologies, and it has never been as distracting as it is in this volume. I feel that it really took away from the dramatic and petty nature of Alec going out of his way to send post cards to Jace while on a romantic European holiday with his new boyfriend, instead simply having him post photos on his social media for Jace to stumble upon with passive aggressive hash tags.

The comedy and small moments really seem to hit hard, but the bigger and more iconic moments seem to fall flat in this volume.

Can’t wait for the mango scene in the next volume!

I have mixed feelings about this one or, more precisely, these graphic novels. Normally, I find that graphic novels of popular series tend to miss parts and thus need to be maybe a bit longer for anyone landing without the series. And these books are no exception. They really do need a bit more of a foundation in the world building, characters and story for anyone to land and understand them without reading the books.

At the same time, I feel like they are dragging things out. The first books were focused mainly on the first book in the series to the point where I wondered how many books they'd do. And now the pace is picking up and we're at book four but still way behind the book books. So I'm going with two graphic novels = one book.

All in all, a decent job. Just not sure I could recommend these without having read the books.

Clary and Jace have hit a rough patch. He keeps dreaming about killing her and she keeps trying to you know talk to him. Simon is dating both Maia and Isabel, that probably won’t end well. Clary’s mom and Luke are finalizing their wedding plans. Alec and Magnus are on a romantic trip around the world. And finally shadowhunters keep Turing up dead. This volume was good but a little filler. It introduces the Preator Lupis which I love. But it was a little in between for our main characters this section of the book series wasn’t my favorite rather, but things are about to rev up so I can’t wait for the next few volumes. The art style is constantly amazing. The adaptation is spot on, I really love revisiting this series without having to reread the books.

ok so i was thinking about not rating manga volumes/graphic novels this year for simple formalities. however, i enjoyed this one very much, to the point i can consider it as a reinvigorating perspective of the fourth installment of the original series (tmi). here, with no that high of stakes as the other ones, contributing to a more slice-of-life narrative—within what’s possible in the fantasy realm—it gives a refreshing air to the first part of city of fallen angels. with a bright yet thought-lingering tone, it still cultivates the seeds of mystery, maintaining the dark aspects of the series. it reviews the characters struggles with sincerity and humanness.

I'm not sure how to do this review....

For starters, I am a fan of Cassandra Clare I have read all of her books; and Shadowhunters is one of my favorite sagas. When City of Fallen Angels was released, I was very disappointed, somehow I felt that the quality had dropped, compared to the other books.

Imagine my surprise when I finished reading this graphic novel, the problems are still there, but more diminished, I know that the fourth book does not have many fans, but I think that if you give it a chance this will be the best way to have a good time, plus I think the narrative speed makes more sense than what is in the original material.

Miluju tu jednoduchost kreseb, děj jenž nikdy nestagnuje a celé to prostě nádherně funguje!

I've found that the more I read these books, the more I notice a lot of it is fluff with somebody calling another person to find out information about a situation. Or for characters to suddenly show up out of the blue and be drama queens because they couldn't effectively communicate. There's a lot of exposition and wordy dialogue but that's to help convey to the reader what needs to happen. Much like the pattern the other books followed, this book ends on a cliffhanger. I don't think I'll keep reading this series, especially because it's losing my interest.

I thought this would itch my “read all of the Shadowhunter books scratch but I was wrong. I’m even more desperate.

Bummed a few things were changed but you can’t fit everything into the graphic novel. Still obsessed with Cassandra Jean’s art. Forever great full she gets to draw this.

Obviously I recommend this to all who read TMI and liked it. And I recommend it to all who haven’t read TMI and are hesitant to read the novels.

I love the mortal instruments book series, and when I started reading the graphic novel forms of them it's just as amazing and fun with Simon bearing the mark of Cain and clary and jace are a couple but he's afraid he's going to hurt her and shadow hunters turning up dead in different downworlders factions and a baby found with long demonic nails and eyes as pitch black can only mean one thing and I can't wait for the next volume.

Mucho menos a JORDAN.
