A factual (and funny) introduction to the parrotfish and its incredible somewhat-squirmy superpower, from the team that brought you Stinkbird Has a Superpower.
Just wait till you hear what a parrotfish can do! You may know they live in warm tropical waters, have an interesting trick for hiding from predators, and have crazy-incredible teeth. But they also do something that no other fish can do—and Parrotfish is eager to tell you all about it.
There’s just one problem—nosy Hammerhead Shark keeps interrupting to talk about himself.
But even Hammerhead gets intrigued and bellows, “WHAT. IS. YOUR. SUPERPOWER!!

Jill Esbaum is a full-time writer and author of I am Cow, Hear Me Moo!, I Hatched!, Stanza, and Tom’s Tweet, among many others. She lives on a farm with her husband and children in Dixon, IA.
Silly and informative, this book teaches all about the humble parrotfish. Did you know 70% of white sand beaches sand comes from parrotfish poop? Learn this and other fun facts as you listen to Hammerhead Shark and Parrot fish discuss their super powers.
If you think the superpower is going to be changing sex, nope (disappointing) but it is mentioned in the back matter. As in the series(?) intro about the stinky bird (superpower is baby bird climbing claws!), this is a humorous story nonfiction hybrid joining the ranks of the Barton I'm trying to love spiders, I'm trying to love garbage, etc. + The Truth about Bears/Elephants/Dolphins books as an extremely effective and enjoyable reading experience for educators, parents, and those kids who prefer nonfiction. The facts are solid in all of these titles plus the bonus of the humor in the telling.
Parrotfish has a great superpower - if only shark would let him get a word in edgewise! A BOATLOAD of informational bout underwater living and a surprise ending. A GREAT Storytime read because the book layout is so clean. Another Esbaum winner!
The Parrotfish has a super power that no other fish in the sea has. Although Hammerhead keeps interrupting as Parrotfish tries to explain, he finally reveals what his superpower is and Hammerhead is truly amazed and the reader will be too.
Both humorous and informative, this is a preschool-level introduction to the parrotfish -- with plenty of poop. Incredibly engaging, readers will love to read this book about this strange fish.
A cute read that blends fact and fiction and helps readers learn more about parrotfish. The artwork was vibrant and fun and had a very funny answer to "what superpower does a parrotfish have?"
If you liked the first book in this series (Stinkbird has a Superpower), then you’re going to love this one! This book reveals the unique superpower of the parrotfish, and the answer will delight (and perhaps horrify) young readers. I don’t want to spoil the surprise, but kids are going to love it! I know I did! In addition to the parrotfish narrator, this book features a hilarious hammerhead shark who becomes a valued pal by the end. When I got to the last page, I was thrilled to discover a list of true or false questions with additional facts. I have been loving all the funny nonfiction/informational fiction books that have come out in the past few years, and this one did not disappoint. I highly recommend this humorous and informative picture book!
Informational fiction: parrotfish don't talk in real life, but this one gives lots of true facts about them in a discussion with a hammerhead. I put this in my booklist about poop!
This was not my favorite picture book - the art was not to my taste - too slick and bright for my personal choice, and I didn't like the writing. I think that the message is potentially funny for the student crowd, but it just seems to be a bit clunky. I don't believe that I would have purchased this for my library if I had not needed to review it for a committee.
