Marc is all too aware that the end of the acclimatization year the System has provided to Earth is quickly drawing to a close and that others will be allowed onto the planet to start claiming areas shortly. Zeus has promised that his series of quests will get Marc, at least, to the maximum level reachable in that first year, but Marc is nervous that it isn't going to happen.
With the transformation of his Safe Zone network into a Kingdom, Marc finds more responsibilities, Fortunately for him, even the help files on the Kingdom recommend delegating authority and, as a result, Sean finds himself with more work than ever.
The transformation to a Kingdom also gives Marc some new options. Now he can convert dungeons he completes into Training Dungeons, designed to be more survivable, although giving fewer benefits in the process of completing them. He can also create Training Dungeons from dungeon cores that he has claimed, giving him lots of options to build a strong defensive force for the Kingdom.
With a little bit of abuse of the System's rules, Marc's Kingdom makes it into the Space Age, allowing them to accept Zeus' final quest. A visit to a secret base on the moon gives them the final thing needed for Zeus and Hera to launch their attack on the System in their endeavor to replace it with their own 'kinder, gentler' version.
This book completes the Natural Laws Apocalypse series, is approximately 160,000 words long, and DRM free.
Tom Larcombe was introduced to fantasy books at a young age. Those that were aimed more at children hooked him in, but not well enough for him to remember their names at this point in his life. Their draw led him to books aimed more for the adult reader and so he found himself, at around age eight, starting in on the Steven R Donaldson 'Thomas Covenant' series and the Hobbit, followed shortly thereafter by The Lord of the Rings books.
His reading tastes have never looked back, although they have broadened to include science fiction and the occasional non-fiction book.
He lives in the foothills of the Rocky Mountains with his wife, two daughters, three cats, and a variable number of chickens.
This was a satisfying end to a thoroughly delightful series. I’ve enjoyed every step of Marc’s journey as he fought to save and protect as much of Earth as he could.
One thing that happened, that I just don’t see the need for was Marc’s race upgrade. It happened, they, sort of, talked about it immediately afterward, and then nothing. It never came up again, it wasn’t a part of his full character sheet when he shared with Felicia, and it just felt a bit awkward in the course of the story.
Other than that, I’ve loved this series, and this book. I like that Zeus and Hera have become much more fleshed out characters. I have enjoyed watching each of our main party grow from the teenagers that they started out as.
4.5 stars. This was an enjoyable series in this genre. The plot progressed smoothly, and the author didn't bog the reader down in single fights lasting multiple chapters. Characters, however, were essentially stuck as they were in book 1, and some development might have added emotional depth to the story.
I have to admit, this series was difficult to read. And I trolled it bad in my comments. But, in the end, it was a fun read.
For one thing, I couldn't figure out the audience the series was meant for, and if I was part of the group. Marcus and his team were clearly young college students who considered themselves better able to handle the New World. And basically all the more mature adults were either complete punks or just happy to let Marcus & Co. run with the ball.
Every once in awhile it seemed like Marcus or Jeff would make some unnecessary cultural or political comment. Dude, it is an APOCALYPSE series, none of that matters.
Why was it difficult to read? Chapters and chapters of nothing but administrivia. We got page after page of Marc, Michelle and Sean worrying about the budget for nothing!
Arts and crafts. Was it really necessary for us to be subjected to long passages of Marc working in the learhercraft shop?
Marc's habitual, early morning routine of waking up long before everyone else, wandering around, sipping his ten gallon jug o'latte. OMG, who cares! So much other cool stuff and we have to listen to Marc worry about buying his expensive latte from the store. Good grief.
There were often way to many loose ends or great ideas that went nowhere. I can't believe Bastet took the abuse and just fogot about it. What about Octavius? He was an excellent character! The idea of respecing stats. The book talked and talked about it. Nothing ever happened. And why did no one ever try to ride the giant chickens! That would have been perfect for Amy to get around on! She was a courier, right? Pony Express on chickens!
Speaking of Amy, let's talk about Mrs. Amy's Mom. Her and all the other nameless, faceless people the author could not bother to put a name to. Lazy. It just made Marc look like he just didn't give a gosh darn enough about other people to make an effort.
So why did I bother to finish the series? I read the Å·±¦ÓéÀÖ comments. Most people didn't bother. I finished because of the adventuring/dungeon sections. They were strong, well thought out and interesting. Often exceptional. Especially the final battle in the epilog.
Up until the part where, I think, the author decided to start using Jeff as comic relief and he would get hurt for his rash, stupid actions. That made Jeff's character go in a whole new, WRONG direction. But even then it was still strong writing.
My advice? Tom needs an editor. Or a new one. Someone to tell him, "Keep this, dump that."
Oh yeah! I want to make sure I say, the epilog wrapped the series up well. I was wondering how Tom was going to close it off and it was some of the best writing in the book. I was expecting/dreading a part two sort of thing but instead got a clean end.
I loved this series, waited eagerly for each new book to arrive, and enjoyed the adventures of the characters, and seeing how they developed through the series. The ending though... SO disappointing! It was rushed, truncated almost, as though the author just got bored and couldn't be bothered anymore, but just wanted it over with. The book could have been either much longer, or even another book for a proper finish to the story. As it is, a lot of it reads like filler, and the nuts we want are just glossed over and rushed through. Then there's a ridiculous epilogue of a paragraph or so for each loose end, and that's it. After eight books, I expected more. Finish what you started Tom! If you can't be bothered, then wait until you can. This is a cop out!
I love, love, love this series! I'm sad that it's done. If you like SYSTEM books, get this one!
The last book of the series. I'm sorry that it's over, but it ends well. I think that I've read most, if not all of Tom's books, and I can't recall a bad one. And I've reread several series (some a couple of times), so I know that I'll do it again for sure. (Just not right away!) I might reread Merlin's series or the Crow Hill series again. As Tom said at the end of the book, you definitely can't go wrong with Daniel Schinhofen, especially his Morrigan series (it's up to 10 books now, I think).
This concludes this series, as a base building series I loved it. My complaints with the series is also how the author brought it to a conclusion. Ancient Aliens that were ancient gods on earth before they were forced to leave when the system left several thousand years ago. (I dont think why it left was ever explained). They needed the little humans to go and complete tasks that even though their levels were suppressed they could not go and complete themselves (Chicken....s). The author did include a rather extensive epilogue talking about the 3 years after the 1st year of the planets protected status.

I am happy to have read this series. It was a lot of fun and Marc's actions were sensible and moral for an apocalypse. I always appreciate it when a story can balance the need for power with maintaining a level of wholesome beliefs. I am sad that this series will not continue the adventures of Marc's group in a new era under the modified system, but the author has finished what he set out to accomplish with the acclimatization year. My one complaint is that outside of the main group, the characters are more NPCs that enable the next story beat, rather than fully fleshed-out beings, but it never stopped me from enjoying the story being told.
I really liked this series. Now that it's complete, I'll have to go find something else to read, but I like the way it ended, always nice to see the good guys actually win for a change. If you haven't read this series, but you're looking at reviews to see if it's worth it, stop wondering, just go read it, it's every bit as fun and interesting as it should be, and the read is entertaining, because it tells a great story. This right here is exactly the kind of LitRPG I really like to read, so now I'm off to find more of said books.
Seriously if feels more like the worst of friends and Seinfeld and an unhealthy dose of awful 80's soap opera. Marc is possibly one on the dumbest in the group, why is the tank reminding him to do an identify , he is such a man child acts closer to 15 and an under developed one to boot. Oh an wow a story point he forgot Valentine's day wow and girlfriend just got upset no communication just crap. Anyway its sooooo boring and stupid at times.. The story line is all over the place and takes a break to go on a break.
I would recommend this to anyone that like litrpg and game lit books. I think this a great series. I also like all the characters we follow Marc but I love robs taunts and the annoyances of Jeff and Felicia moments build a series that honestly made these books way better. If you have read the first one I would highly recommend it cause the world being changed. Hope you give this series a try. If you like me and check out the last book reviews to see if you want to read it. I would tell to try it now.
Truly an excellent series rap up. I have enjoyed this so much, that I'm going to miss them dearly. Yes even Jeff. Excellent worldbuilding, characters that I feel are friends Anda story that never gets old. While I will miss updates about Marc and family, I am eagerly awaiting Tom's next series. Thanks so much for the many hours of fu b that sharing your imagination with us has brought. May You continue for many year's to come.
I just finished reading this full series for the third time and got to the end and didn’t realize that either I hadn’t left a review, or that somehow it’s been lost. As you can tell, I really enjoy this series. New books in two other series have come in, but I haven’t taken a break from this one until I finished the complete series. I hope that gives those of you that are avid readers an idea of just how good I think they are!
Tom has done it again. I always look forward to any book he writes, because I can assume it will be another page turner that keeps me up all night. I wish there was going to be another one, but maybe he will do a continuation of this universe sometime down the road. (Hint hint Tom) Anyways, I hope you all enjoy this book/series as much as I did.
This series was amazing, I can’t believe it is over! I would like to see more from this is the future, I enjoyed every book. Wishing Tom all the best and hope that he continues to improve and grow in the future. The only thing I have to say is that I wish it wasn’t the end. Best of luck and READ THESE BOOKS!
There were a few “floating pieces that I was wondering how they would be resolved over the series but it came together nicely. It was entertaining throughout and a fun rollercoaster of a ride. It was quite well done overall. Everything falls into place to pull together a satisfying conclusion to the series.
I have been caught up by a his author lately and i have to say i cant get enough this is my second series from this author and every book is better than the last and i cant wait to find my next adventure with this author and his amazing story lines!!
A fitting end to a marvelous series. I loved the story from start to finish. I also liked the epilogue, giving the readers a glance at the future. Highly recommended in general, but especially if you like base-building!
Good clean fun fantasy - through the whole series! Some things seemed too easy (to me) in this book. Still, no complaints - I was entertained! Great Series!
For me this was the author’s best series yet. Like how it ended and really didn’t leave room for more. I appreciate it when there aren’t books on the next generation or about some tragedy. Like how things aren’t perfect but there is still hope.
It was a very good series Entertaining characters Interesting story lines etc
I would have liked more of how the crows got on Also more of beggar and Matilda plus the other characters who just got forgotten about which was a shame

The author did an amazing job of finishing any unfinished quests from Zeus and wrapping the storyline up. We even get to see Marc go animalistic defending his home and people.
I loved every book. The details included in the storyline set these books apart from all others. Characters were great and the action kept you on the edge of your seat. Books were generous in size. Looking forward to other series.
