Arnie finds himself in trouble when his neighbor, Loretta Schmoretta, begins telling news reporters that she was the victim of an alien abduction. And not just any aliens—alien doughnuts from outer spastry, who will continue the abductions until people stop eating doughnuts! Although Arnie thinks this is a ridiculous story, he notices that everyone is treating him differently, as if he is an alien doughnut rather than just a doughnut-dog. And then Arnie gets abducted! Arnie must think fast in order to rescue his fellow doughnuts and the townspeople from the alien invaders.Ìý The slapstick shenanigans continue in this hilarious second book in Laurie Keller's Adventures of Arnie the Doughnut series.

This is part of my 365 Kids Books challenge. For an explanation see my review for You can see all the books on their own shelf.

If you're following along, there has been significant improvement on the lists, and they seem to be running more or less correctly. I have plenty more reviews coming, thanks to the marvelous people @chpublib and @ocplibraries who are keeping me supplied.

Unlike me you might have been paying attention enough to notice that UFOs have become a fascinating subject again. Boy, was I shocked to put this down and then see a headline. Oh, Arnie, not the brightest doughnut, if you recall from the first book. Sometimes it's soothing to read about someone even more clueless than oneself.

I'm really not the target audience for this so please take this review with a grain of salt. I haven't read this Arnie series before but won a copy in a blog giveaway. While it has a cute premise, with a talking donut and his best friend who is a slice of pizza trying to uncover the truth about a possible alien invasion, I found that the story dragged and was too predictable to hold my attention. I also wasn't a huge fan of all the word play, such as "tae kwon dough," "take me to your kneader," and "outer spastry," though I can see younger children enjoying it.

The illustrations are fun though I'm disappointed it is not in color. There is a lot of variety in the kinda of text used. It looked cool but actually made reading the book a little difficult.

Overall it was just an OK read for me but I think younger children might like it. And the format makes it a good book for children who are transitioning from picture books to longer chapter books.

This is one spunky donut! Earth is being invaded by alien doughnuts from Spastry (Space). I love the play on words and hoped that the reader might be able to figure out the alien language and decode the messages. (PS: is you can't, look at the back of the book for the explanation of deciphering the Ufonuts language).
So, are the alien doughnuts really abducting earthlings in revenge for our eating doughnuts? Is Loretta Schmoetta (love that name) telling the truth? Lots of fun!

Big fan of Laurie Keller's picture books, but when you pick up a book titled "Arnie the Doughnut" you can't have high expectations. It was about as stupid as it could possibly be and at times confusing. The words were scattered all over the page and every now and then something would happen with no explanation. Figured I'd give it a shot, but no desire to read any more of the series.

My seven-year-old doesn't always love reading chapter books, but he loved this one when we read it together.

Perfect for the child who loves being silly. It has a goofy plot, no objectionable content, the characters have personalities and the illustrations are great. Solid 3 stars.

Arnie the doughnut is on an adventure to save Earth from giant alien doughnuts....or so he thinks. After he gets into a fight with his best friend who happens to be a pizza named Peezo, and tells a hungry lady to eat Peezo, Arnie regrets ever saying such a thing. After he talks to his owner Mr. Bing, Arnie decides to go and find his friend and apologize. To his surprise he ends up being abducted by the alien doughnuts. While on the ship Arnie runs into some unexpected people and ends up finding out the truth about why the doughnut aliens keep abducting the doughnuts of Earth.

1- Who is the main character of the book?
2- How does Arnie feel after Peezo thinks he is an alien doughnut?
3- Why does Arnie think that the alien doughnuts are trying to invade Earth?
4- Compare how Arnie felt about the doughnut aliens at the beginning of the book and how he felt about them at the end of the book.
5- Do you think Arnie should have told the hungry lady to eat Peezo for lunch?
6- What do you think would have happened if Peezo would have been eaten?

The second in the Arnie the Doughnut chapter books, this one isn't as strong as the first but is still good fun. Silliness abounds, but sometimes despite the story.

This time, Arnie takes on the Invasion of the Alien Doughnuts as people of his town seem to be beamed up to an alien spaceship then returned, claiming they saw alien doughnuts. On top of that, Arnie and his best friend Peezo have their first argument and Arnie is trying to find the best way to fix it.

Arnie remains as likeable as ever and this is still a great addition to the world of graphically heavy midway books for those transitioning to chapter books. Kids will love Arnie and his wacky adventures. Grades 2+.

7 year old gave it 5 stars. 10 year old gave it 3 stars.

My youngest is ready for chapter books but is overwhelmed by large blocks of text. His preference is comic books or graphic novels. Books like The Adventures of Arnie the Doughnut: Invasion of the UFOnuts is the best of both worlds; allowing him to read with confidence. Coupling the text style of comics with a great story, zany characters, movie making, musical stars, and alien language; you have a hit on your hand.

The whole town is worried when people start disappearing via abduction by alien doughnuts, then everybody gets caught up in the thrill of Hollywood when they learn that the aliens are shooting a movie.

Following the story is a how-to on speaking pig latin alien style. Overall, I didn't like it as much as the first book in the series, but I still think the 3-5 grades will devour it.

In this second book in the series, Arnie the Doughnut investigates when claims are made the doughnuts from Outer Spastry are abducting people and he thinks his friend Peezo, a slice of pizza, might be one of them.

I feel the same about this as the first book. It is way too weird and corny for me, but the kids who read it will surely enjoy it.

When reports abound that people are being abducted by giant doughnuts from outer space, Arnie doesn't believe it. Until suddenly, one day, he finds himself aboard the spaceship, traveling with the UFOnuts back to their home planet. Are these good aliens or evil aliens? Join Arnie and Peezo on another one of their goofy adventures. Recommended for grades 1-3.

* I met this author at NErDCampMI in 2016 & I have a signed copy.
* The book is one example of a picture book that was re-envisioned as an early chapter book.
* Illustrations clearly support the story. Add lots of humor.
* Voice of the characters is spunky; writing style is somewhat staccato. The style fits the voice of the characters.
* I look forward to sharing this book with my students.

Another madcap caper featuring my favorite fried dough friend and a hilarious cast of characters from the galaxy of Laurie Keller's mind and beyond. Delicious . . . oops, sorry Arnie, I mean the smell of fresh doughnuts!

I'm a huge fan of the picture book "Arnie the Doughnut" for its fun and quirky writing. I was so excited to see that there are now chapter books with that same cute hero! :) This had some fun parts, but it almost felt TOO quirky and "out there." Still looking forward to other Arnie's!!

Arnie is back and up to his usual antics!
My favorite part about this book was the arrows that showed how to read the talk bubbles. I think that is one of the hardest things for readers to figure out when they read multiple talk bubbles. They have trouble following the conversation.

Alien donuts from space are kidnapping donuts and humans in flying cups and saucers. Can Arnie and Peezo stop fighting long enough to save the day? Arnie fans will enjoy the 2nd book in the chapter book series. The illustrations add to the humor and silliness of the book.
