The Mindf*ck series meets Formula 1

"It only took me nine minutes the first time I killed a man."

This is a two POV book, told by the POV´s of Sasha and Joao.

For me personally, Sasha and Joao were a grumpy x sunshine couple. With Sasha being the grumpy, stern one and Joao being an absolute cinnamon roll. I loved how the characters complimented each other while also having their differences. Joao always tried to be positive, nice and charming. He was so friendly and I feel like he gave Sasha the comfort she needed. It´s definitely a "he falls first" case with him doing some chasing.

I liked Dani and I would have loved to get just a bit more background information on him.

Plotwise this truly is Mindf*ck series with some Formula 1 elements. The storyline itself is really similar to the Mindf*ck series, but I would argue that it´s a slightly watered down version of it. I liked the added Formula 1 elements, most of it was accurate to the "real" F1; but I have to say that that plotline faded a bit into the back for me with the added murder storyline. The romance in here is fine. It doesn´t neccessarily feel like a slow burn but also doesn´t really feel like insta love. I would say the trope that comes closest is probably friends to lovers. The pacing itself is good, it never felt too slow or too quick. The book is action packed and has many good scenes. You will also find some smut scenes in here. The only negatives that I have is that I would have wished for a bit more Formula 1 and that the story sometimes felt a bit like a copy of the Mindf*ck series.

Overall it was a good, quick read.

I was lucky enough to get my hands on the ARC for this book and Rhae did not disappoint!

I am an absolute sucker for reverse grumpy x sunshine tropes and I love morally grey women characters. Sasha and João’s love story was absolutely swoon worthy but what really stood out to me was Sasha’s story. She is the pinnacle of resilience and I support all the wrongs she did throughout this book. Her character was so well thought out and so well written I am so happy she got a well deserved happy ending.

The mindf*ck series meets F1??? SIGN ME THE FUCK UP!🏎💨🩸✨🔪💀

This book is the equivalent of a well seasoned chicken! This contains a bit of everything that you'll want and need in a book! A female serial killer out for revenge 😏🔪(I support woman's rights... but more importantly I supports woman's wrongs), dark romance with fluffy and spicy moments in between (🎶uhhh its the remix🎶).

João and Sasha, they stole my heart (okay lets be real, everyone stole my heart, you will fall in love with everyone bc Miss Aeden keeps writing hot characters like its nothing).

Sasha is the baddest bitch (and I honestly don't know if I want to be her OR be with her), she compelled me with her sassy and cocky mouth. João charmed his way into my heart with his charismatic ways (and his panties wetting attitude).

Aside from that it also deals with a lot of really serious and deep topics (which gave me goosebumps on places where I didn't event think goosebumps exist).

The lil found family, the friendships made, I just loved reading this moments.

AND OMG THE PLOTTWISTS!!!!! I was shook for days! 💀💀💀💀

AND OMG THE F1 aspects!!!!! As a F1 girlie you will love this! And as a rookie or newbie you will FALL IN LOVE with this! The scenery was done so well, I was so exited reading the race scene!!! 🏎💨

I had the honor to be the beta-reader of this book! thank you Hermana for letting me be part of your journey and watching you grow as an author (even tho you tortured me with the cliffhangers).

I'm super proud of you Rhae, you put so much love, dedication and hard work into this book and characters and I had a blast watching you create magic! ❤️

“It only took me nine minutes the first time I killed a man.

EXCUSE YOU?! I was hooked after this line, the very first line.
Finished this book in just three sittings while on vacation and I couldn’t and didn’t want to put it down.

This was the first time I read a sports romance about Formula One and it’s safe to say I want more!
Well romance? A thriller! It was so dark and twisted and yet you cannot hate the killer.

I was so surprised how well I actually liked this book. A female killer x a lovesick F1 driver. Ehm hello!?!?!

Not only did we follow the murder plan of Sasha, we also got the insights of her past and the explanation of why she wants to kill. Well not want, why she needs to. And for those reasons you cannot hate her. You root for her.

One of the things I loved most about this thriller romance is the fact that it wasn’t only focussed on the killings and the dark aspects. João is a F1 driver and we get to see him competing for the championship with Sasha as the commentator. I loved the maps in the book, the leader boards and the illustrations above each chapter. It contributed to the imagination and the races captivated me. It also gave you a short break from those dark and twisted scenes that occur during the book.

“I don’t mind seeing you in the blood of your enemies.

The (dark) spice? I think the author replied to a comment on TT that the book has a minimal amount of spice but lemme tell you they were good. And gosh I love how Sasha just knows what she wants she is such an Alpha woman!

A few things that didn’t do it for me: the fact that I felt as if João needed to be the bigger alpha. He, a F1 driver, wants to protect her, a serial killer, how? Hire bodyguards or what? She can take care of herself just fine and I felt as if he just had to say this so many times to make her feel as if she NEEDED his protection to feel safe. Of course she longs for his warmth and love, but I personally thought it made her look weak, which she absolutely is not. She’s so badass and strong.

I adore Sasha & João, but he really needs to quit with the whole “making her feel safe comments, because I bet that if there is danger, she is the one doing the protecting for suuuure xD

I also sometimes forgot I was reading a thriller, as I think it focuses more on the romance aspect than giving you the thrills.

If you’re looking for a thriller and you love F1, go read this book. You’ll be hooked.

“When we feel lost, broken, or alone, it is the love of others that can guide us back to the light

This follows Sasha and Joao. Sasha is an F1 commentator who is haunted by her past and is on a mission to end those who hurt her. But along comes Joao an F1 star out to win his first championship. Will love get in the way or can she stick to the task of what needs to be done?

First thing first I want to praise the author on her knowledge of F1, as a fan myself I was thrilled when we had accurate information and Rhae also included graphics of the tracks and leaderboards which I loved to follow along with the story.
I will say this was a good read but I was struggling with the main character's connection and relationship it's not a standout. With the FMC being a serial killer all the deaths were quite fast, which leads to the fact is you don't find out why she is on this mission until just after halfway. It mentions a dark past and memories for Sasha. I just didnt really feel any emotions while reading the story was just happy to keep reading along.

As I said this was just a good read and I would recommend giving it a go if your a fan of F1 and into dark romance.

LOVED LOVED LOVED!!

If you like your female characters badass and morally grey then this book is definitely for you!!

I loved how the romance was important to the plot but also not always the main focus because it really allowed Sasha to develop on her own, which in turn improved their relationship.

This whole book was just so good, had me squealing at the pages!!

Having the serial killer element threw a really unique spin onto your typical f1 romance and i thought it was done really well!!

defo recommend!

I won’t lie, I saw a reel about this book on insta and was immediately sold. Formula One meets serial killer? Yeah that’s an immediate read. I liked this from the get go. The dual POV made the story even more intriguing. I loved that Sasha is a commentator, it added a neat element and a great way to drop background info about the sport. And of course the fact that he is a driver is really cool (and hot). I also really liked Dani and was intrigued by his past as well as Sasha’s. That being said, this book has a darker element I wasn’t expecting. Yes, darker than a serial killer. If you read it, that will make sense I promise. But that being said, make sure to check triggers. Overall I enjoyed this but the pacing was a little off, there were some story errors I felt, and definitely could use some editing and tweaking but I’m really glad I read it and I’m excited to check out more by this author!

ARC Review - 3 stars
NOTE: just because I didn't love this book, doesn't mean you won't :)

I really wanted to love this book. As I was reading, Speed Trap really gave the vibe of what you'd get if you crossed the Mindf*ck series with Throttled by Lauren Asher. The book features a strong female lead, Sasha, who isn't afraid to *unalive* the people who have wronged her, but she also happens to be a F1 commentator, who ultimately ends up falling in love with a driver, João.

I enjoyed the book to an extent, it was fine, but I just found the book to be a little too chaotic, trying to merge two very separate genres. It might just be me, but I found it really hard to feel connected and invested in the characters.

One of the things I struggle with in books is when no little to no contractions. It's only a minor thing, but I felt like the lack of it made the dialogue just a little clunky and it felt a bit forced. Like I said, not a major thing, but it did slightly affect my rating.

If you like F1 romances, this book might be one that you love, just keep in mind that it has very dark themes and goes in a direction that you won't expect.

This was a very quick read that reminded me a lot of the mindf*ck series. I definitely enjoyed this one more than the first book in the series but I once again think this series still needs a bit of editing because there were such obvious mistakes in this book such as missing words or letters you could’ve easily spotted with a bit of editing.

This book gave me Mindfuck series vibes I Was searching for a while to find a similar book and I'm glad I encountered it...
Sasha is MOMMY I love her with my whole heart....
She gave justice to the ones who are in tombs whose voices have been silenced and she gave them a voice....
I enjoyed how she executed the plan and killed all the Pedophiles including her own father....
Joào I love him like after knowing her true identity he didn't abandon her like Logan from Mindfuck Series and listened to her side of her and then judged her ....and after listening to her side of the story he even supported her in her kills and helped her...
I love when a book has strong, badass, sassy FMC if you're searching for a book similar to Mindfuck Series this is the one and ohh I forgot to mention Joào is a F1 driver and I'm into F1 racing and I got to know about the racing too the book was fast paced and it was thrilling and I was hooked from the start to the end....

₊˚ෆ "when we feel lost, broken, or alone, it is the love of others that can guide us back to the light"

i actually finished this a week ago but i had the worst case of stomach flu literally vomitted everywhere and i'm not sure this made feel better 🤠🤠 this was so wattpad-y and trust me i grew up with wattpad, it was a literal canon event, but this might've been the worst kind 😭

this story is set in the high-octane world of f1 racing. sasha, a fierce commentator, is haunted by a past accident and seeks revenge. joao, a rising star driver on the verge of a championship, becomes entangled with sasha. their attraction to each other threatens both their goals: sasha's quest for vengeance and Joao's shot at the championship. The story explores themes of revenge, redemption, and the complexities of love amidst the fast-paced and competitive atmosphere of f1.

✧₊ 🗡 sasha
i need them to give this girl a break, she's been through so much 😭 she basically gives lana vibes btw i would so die for her she stands her ground, and is determined to get what she wants. i absolutely love her relationship with dani and exploring what their relationship was, is everything. although, sasha is an absolute badass (in her revenge plot and job), i just lacked connection with her. i find her verrrryyyy irritable at times and her communication skills pissed me off at points 😅 i also wished she would STOP calling joao a 'boy' like he's 16 when he's literally 24 and only 2/3 years younger (it gave the same energy when a mmc keeps talking about how short the fmc is every 2 sentences got verrrry annoying)

✧₊ 🏎joao
what a sweet boy, he's just so genuine and knew what he wants from the beginning. you could already tell how much sasha meant to him and it was soooo endearing. even when she revealed the truth the man was not phased AT ALL. i am also absolutely in my f1 phase and i already loved that man bc he reminds me of lando 😭 but regardless, he's actually precious and deserves the world; they both do 💖

₊˚ෆ➵“your flaws won't scare me; they won't drive me away. It does not matter how hard you try, I am here to stay.

sashaxjoao here's the thing. i felt no connection between them whatsoever. i also felt like i should've absolutely read the first book even though i'm pretty sure it's a standalone there was just no start or beginning to their relationship and it was too insta-lovey for me?? i just wished there was some development, but they had their cute moments!!

a rec?
give it a shot? you might personally enjoy it, and i might just be pessimistic, i just didn't thoroughly enjoy this book as much as i'd like to!!

I didn’t know I needed to read an f1 version of the mindf*ck series until now.

This was unexpected but so good!!
The writing and storytelling compared to the first book in the series improved significantly.

I criticized in Hammer Time the lacking on-page development between the love interests.
And my complains have been heard: this book showed the FMC Sasha slowly overcoming her fears to open up to someone and healing. João was just the absolute sweetest and most patient with her. And I’m kind of in love with both of them. This is what I want to read. I knew the author had it in her!!

I loved reading about them. They were fun and adorable! And I’m a sucker for the f1 driver x journalist scenario!

In addition to that, we also got amazing actual race content! You can feel, how much the author loves and consumes the sport, in the way she writes about it. It feels like your actually watching the races and (not that common for f1 romances) keeps the aspects about the sport realistic.

And let us not forget about the revenge plot that was just amazing. It felt a lot like the mindf*ck series but I didn’t mind that at all, since it’s one of my all time favorites. The murder, the planning and plotting of revenge.

Who knew you could combine my favorite things: stabby FMCs and formula 1.

The only thing keeping me from giving five stars is, that the ending felt a bit too simple. I think everything worked out a bit too well would have preferred to see them work a bit more for it.

This book is for everyone that loves a good revenge murder plot and also enjoys sports romances: this one was written for us.

First of all, I want to thank Rhae so much for trusting me with her book so early in the process and letting me read her story and edit it with her. It was an absolute honor.

Now, let's talk about why I loved this book so much! The characters are absolutely incredible! Sasha is complex, complicated, an absolute badass, and I want to give her the biggest hug for everything she's had to go through. Rhae did an amazing job with this story and bringing awareness to such an important topic, which simply isn't talked enough, especially not in books. Sasha is strong and determined to get her revenge for what happened to her. She's smart and caring, and I loved the way she opened up for João in this book.

João was an absolute delight. The way he was drawn to Sasha throughout the whole story was beautiful and I loved the way he never judged her without hearing her side first!! He's a top tier book boyfriend and I loved him!! Watching their relationship unfold and blossom was heartwarming. I loved every second.

The diversity in this book is incredible. Of course Rhae also never disappoints with her knowledge of Formula One and using it to write absolute masterpieces of racing scenes and chapters. The balance between F1 and Sasha's revenge was perfect in my opinion, very well balanced!

All in all, I absolutely loved this book and cannot wait for the third one in the series. I'm so proud of you Rhae for everything you've already accomplished :)

Book 2 in the Checkered Flag series (can both be read as standalones)! In this book we follow two other characters from book 1, Sasha and João. Sasha is one of the best F1 journalists/commentators and João one of the drivers. João reminds me a lot of Lando, brown curly hair, green eyes, literal sunshine boi 👀. Sasha on the other hand is a fierce woman, so good at her job and is a also a serial killer by night. Go queen 🥰! Ngl this book was pretty much a copy of the Mindf*ck Series plot, mixed with F1. Morally grey woman who's a serial killer with a traumatic past, a best friend who helps her and shares the same traumatic past, a sunshine boi who falls in love with her and will do anything for her. Not that I mind cause honestly The Mindf*ck series is one of the best series I've ever read. However, with this book I didn't really feel Sasha's emotions/trauma as much as I did with Lana in the mindf*ck series. Overall it was an easy read and I'll definitely keep an eye out for her upcoming books (if there are any)! There were some spelling mistakes again, but for a self published author she did great. 🥰

I always want to enjoy F1 romances, but I'm constantly let down.

João is an F1 driver with a top team, competing for his first WDC. Sasha is an F1 commentator (and also a serial killer)? She's murdering Team Pricipals throughout the F1 season. She's been waiting for ten years to carry out her revenge and is slowly picking them off one by one.

First off, I wanna say I think the plot could've made for an interesting story, but it was poorly executed. We have Sasha, who is getting her revenge on those who harmed her in the past, but she's super wishy-washy throughout the entire book. There are moments when she "loves the kill" and then she turns around and is disgusted because she feels she's unworthy of love (because of what she does).

There was no real chemistry between the two main characters, so I was never rooting for the relationship. Also, João (MMC) fell flat from the start. Nothing special just a lowkey insufferable man. (Ps. He calls her blondie an upwards of 75 times)

Dialogue was clunky, to the point where the characters weren't talking like people, and overall I don't think this was edited.

Another F1 based romance but with a twist. 🏎️

I was unsure about this storyline at first as I didn’t know how a serial killer was going to fit into the Formula 1 world but I was pleasantly surprised and absolutely hooked! Rhae absolutely smashed it!

The character development of Sasha/Natalia was wonderful to read, pure perfection! As for João, I loved his character and the dynamic between him and Sasha. I don’t want to include any spoilers soo don’t want to say too much but when Sasha confessed to him and he just loves her even more(!)😍❤️

I loved that Philip and Selene, from Hammer Time, popped up several times. I love a good crossover!

This book contained some vulnerable topics and they were written about brilliantly. The twist with João’s sister being taken by the organisation.. I didn’t see that coming!

The little details in this book were perfect, the little track layouts and the chapter title logos. They matched Hammer Time perfectly and I cannot wait to see what the next book has in store!

I loved everything about this book.

5/5 ★★★★

This book makes you feel something else. It was fun, it wad hot, cute, Action packed and absolutely amazing!! This book has everything you need: age gap, serial killer, mystery, bisexual rep etc.

Philip already stole my heart on the first page. I really enjoyed his sensitive and cute side and how he was handling his mental health issues.

And Selene, wow She is absolutely brilliant! She's strong, intelligent and confident!
The chemistry between them was perfect! They matched well together and I enjoyed every second with them

Rhae knew exactly what she was doing and I loved every F1 detail in this book. Finally a good, but also really dramatic and action packed F1 romance, that will keep you on the edge of your seat. Once you start this book, you can't stop reading it!!

The writing, the setting, the plot, the characters....everything in this book was just amazing!!!

Thank you Rhae for this Arc, I can't wait to see and read more of her!

i always knew i would LOVE sasha. she gives bad b*tch energy and i literally want to be her. she is sassy, stabby, and SLAYS !! in my opinion joao is the sunshine to sasha’s grumpy. he is charming and such a cinnamon roll, that these characters complement each other so well. he definitely fell first 🤭

THE PLOT TWISTS ???!! ARE YOU JOKING 😳

i inhale F1 like it’s my lifeline and read dark romance like it’s my occupation. to have these two together and add a murder storyline is just absolute perfection. this was filled with so much action from the F1 track to sasha’s stabby moments.

such a page turner and i was HOOKED !! this book is more than just a sports romance
