From the award-winning author of Hide and Fall comes a taut tale of renegade justice and long-awaited resolution, bringing the thrilling Detective Harriet Foster series to a heart-stopping conclusion.

Hardwicke House, home to Belverton College’s exclusive Minotaur Society, is no stranger to tragedy. And when a body turns up in the field next to the mansion, the scene looks chillingly familiar.

Chicago PD sends hard-nosed Detective Harriet “Harri Foster to investigate. The victim is Brice Collier, a wealthy Belverton student, whose billionaire father, Sebastian, owns Hardwicke and ranks as a major school benefactor. Sebastian also has ties to the mansion’s notorious past, when thirty years ago, hazing led to a student’s death in the very same field.

Could the deaths be connected? With no suspects or leads, Harri and her partner, Detective Vera Li, will have to dig deep to find answers. No charges were ever filed in the first case, and this time, Harri’s determined the killer must pay. But still grieving her former partner’s death, Harri must also contend with a shadowy figure called the voice—and their dangerous game of cat and mouse could threaten everything.

This is the third installment of the Detective Harriet Foster series. Even though it’s part of a series, it can be read as a standalone. This Chicago-based murder mystery is gritty, realistic, and heart-racing. The plot is absorbing and thought-provoking full of twists that will keep you guessing. The narration masterfully brings the story to life adding intensity and suspense. Thank you, NetGalley and Brilliance Audio for my audiobook.

Harriet Foster is back for the third time in Tracy Clark’s Chicago-based thriller Echo. The Chicago PD homicide detective is still dealing with the loss of her son and her work partner while also out solving the murders of people she doesn’t know.

Echo presents us with a two-pronged murder mystery. The first is a very measured, very well planned revenge killing. The second is far more personal to Harri and revolves around the suicide of Glynnis, her former partner.

Brice Collier is the son of a billionaire, living it up as the huge man on campus at the school mostly funded by his father. But 4 robed figures, calling themselves Justice, have a plan for his imminent death. And it’s all in retaliation for another man’s murder 30 years earlier. The case tends to tie in nicely with the issue of vigilante justice, its application and the question over the effectiveness of the legal system. It’s an issue that raises its head a number of times as the story unfolds.

From the first book in the series (Hide) we’ve witnessed Harriet working her way through the mental anguish and feelings of guilt over the death of her partner. In particular the circumstances surrounding the events leading up to it. Echo provides answers and something of a resolution and does so in dramatic fashion.

As with the earlier books, Echo also highlights the necessity of teamwork between fellow officers and this, more than the earlier books, reads as more of an ensemble effort. The characters introduced earlier in the series return and we’re provided with more of an insight into each, helping them become more 3-dimensional. The result is a richer and more coherent perspective from which the story is told.

I found Echo to be another enjoyable murder mystery that tackles real issues in a thoughtful and pragmatic way. The camaraderie between cops was engaging, the bad guys are suitably provocative and the ending, while not exactly satisfying, was entirely in keeping with the tone of the book.

My thanks to Thomas & Mercer and NetGalley for providing me with a digital ARC which enabled me to read, enjoy and review this book.

I found it more difficult to get involved in the storyline with this sequel, BUT I felt that it raised more thought-provoking questions. The narrative and its message have certainly stayed with me longer than the previous two installments.

The primary focus of this novel is echoes and the secondary focus follows an intense journey of revenge, secrets and uncovering the truth. The same way an echo repeats itself across time and barriers, so do the events in Chicago PD Detective Harriet ‘Harri Foster’s personal and public life. Harri is struggling with the loss of her partner and haunted by the possibility that the investigation into her death has been tampered. The title is perfect for this novel!

One of the secondary focuses is justice, vigilante justice in particular, and how, despite being born from a deep desire to do something after feeling like the system has failed, it spiraled and threatened the rule of law. The vigilante group in this novel is looking for someone to pay for an act of violence from 30 years ago and is willing to go to any lengths to enforce their skewed idea of justice. Harri is looking for justice; justice for her partner and for the person who still taunts her.

Closely tied into this theme is that of effective policing. There’s one point in the book when it makes sense for the officers to pursue those running from the scene and there’s discussion about how proactive policing is no longer possible and not a directive. As a reader, I felt the restraints of the establishment in the narrative and thought they were a timely insertion. The reality of a life of service comes through loud and clear in this sequel.

If you love a slower-paced read with lots of time to consider issues raised, need justice to be served, are curious about secret societies, and like a good murder investigation, this one’s for you!

I was gifted this copy by Thomas & Mercer and NetGalley and was under no obligation to provide a review.

"A body has turned up in the field next to a mansion ... and the scene looks chillingly familiar. "

Echo is quite a tale of renegade justice and long-awaited resolution! There are two different storylines and Detective Harriet Foster (Harri) is determined to solve the cases in both of them. Each was interesting, although I was most intrigued by the story involving the body in the field. The twists kept me on my toes!

I love the friendship and partnership Harri shares with Vera. Vera's personality always has a way of making me chuckle. I'm sad this book is the end of the trilogy.

Echo can be read as a standalone.

Big thanks to both #ThomasAndMercer and #NetGalley for the opportunity to read and review an early copy of Echo. This book is book three in the Detective Harriet Foster series and it has an expected publication date of December 3, 2024.

This marks the third installment in the Detective Harriet Foster series.

"Echo" is a gripping murder mystery set against the backdrop of Chicago, exploring the depths of crime drama.

With its raw, authentic, and pulse-pounding narrative, Tracy Clark has swiftly become one of my favorite authors in the crime thriller genre.

Hardwicke House, the esteemed residence of Belverton College’s elite Minotaur Society, has a history marred by tragedy. When a body is discovered in the field adjacent to the mansion, the scene evokes a haunting sense of déjà vu.

The Chicago Police Department assigns the tenacious Detective Harriet “Harri Foster to lead the investigation. The deceased is Brice Collier, a privileged student at Belverton, whose billionaire father, Sebastian, not only owns Hardwicke but also plays a significant role as a key benefactor of the institution. Sebastian is linked to the mansion's dark legacy, recalling a tragic incident from thirty years prior, when a student lost their life in that very same field during a hazing ritual.

Are these two deaths interconnected? Faced with an absence of suspects or leads, Harri and her partner, Detective Vera Li, must delve deeply to uncover the truth.

Thank you to NetGalley and Thomas & Mercer for the eARC in exchange for my honest review.

This is the 3rd Harriet Foster book in the series and, in my opinion, the best yet. I really enjoyed how the background plot from the series came to prominence in this 3rd in the series but didn't play 2nd fiddle to the book's main storyline. Both kept me very interested, and did justice (no pun intended) to Foster's character. Foster is a flawed but driven cop in this series and you find yourself always rooting for her.

5 stars.

This is a Mystery, and this is the third book in the Detective Harriet Foster series. I have not read the other books in this series before picking up this book. I had a lot of trouble getting into this book, and I do not know if that is because I had not read the other books in this series before picking up this book. I did not connect to any of the characters in this book. I did find the ending to wrap up the story well. I did not really enjoy this book.

Ya'll these grudges run DEEEEEP! Damn... but also, like, I'm here for the drama.

This was a more "dramatic-suspense" crime novel than thriller. There were a lot of deep-seeded traumas and resentments. Imma say, some of the characters could have used Better Me instead of knives, but alas, the choices were choicing.

I'm a ride or die fan of Harri Foster and Vera Li. Can't wait for the next installment!

Echo, the third and newly released book ( December 3, 2024) in Tracy Clark's Detective Harriet Foster series is an excellent and captivating read. I read the previous books in the series, and each one is intriguing and more than satisfying. Each may be read as a stand-alone, however reading them in order does provide the background and more insights into the motivation and actions of Harri. She is a Chicago detective, still struggling to understand the deaths of her beloved son Reg, and her former partner's suicide, separated, and overly focused on her work, thinking it will drive her emptiness and sadness away.
In Echo Harri and her team are investigating the death of a young and very wealthy student, Brice Collier, at Belverton College. Was the death a suicide or was it murder? Ironically Brice's father, the very powerful Sebastian Collier, an alumni of Belverton, appeared to be involved in a similar death of a scholarship student, Michael Paget, 30 years prior to Brice' death, although he was never charged. Coincidence?
At the same time Harri is extremely upset that the Chicago PD did not conduct a full and intensive investigation into the suicide of Glynnis Thompson, her partner and friend. Despite being told to stand down, Harri is determined to uncover what really happened. This investigation opens a kettle of worms that puts Harri, her team and her family in danger. Echo is definitely a page turner! Harri and her team represent to me what and how police work in spite of personal challenges; they come alive on the pages. In closing, and with no spoilers, I think and hope that there may well be another book forthcoming. Thank you to NetGalley, Thomas and Mercer Publishing and Tracy Clark for the opportunity to read and review an ARC of Echo; my review reflects my honest opinion. 4.5 stars.

My favorite book of the series so far - especially now that the background and team dynamics are established. I love all of these characters, their personalities and their banter.
The college secret society storyline was super intriguing, as was the conclusion to Harri’s game of cat-and-mouse with “the voice, who maybe involved her former partners death.
Thank you to Kaye Publicity for my copy and I’m excited to see there will be a book 4 coming, especially because there was one open ended question at the end!

Clark's 3rd book about a Chicago police detective puts an end to a mystery that began in the first book. I have really enjoyed these police procedural stories and I hope this isn't the end of the series, but some reviews say it is...

Good, solid entry in the series that features some mystery and suspense, but leans a bit closer to the "thriller" side of things - as there are moments when the reader is privy to details the protagonist is still puzzling out. Billionaire's son, a college legacy, is found dead in a field outside of his pseudo-frat house, and it appears to all tie back to Daddy (because of course it does). Clark also tosses in a carryover secondary plot from book two, the sinister man who is blackmailing (of sorts) our protagonist - except she's not paying up and is determined to unravel the mystery (which ties to her dead former partner in some way) on her own. Once again Clark nails the Chicago setting. An enjoyable read.

A fantastic follow-up to FALL, but also a bit of a disappointing novel on its own. As part of a series, I'm really happy that we got the closing of a loose-thread side-plot that had been brewing since book 1.

But I didn't much like that ECHO's own mystery wasn't prioritized. It almost felt like it got resolved without input from the detectives. Foster's participation in the case getting closed is irrelevant. None of the key elements that resulted in a clue being solved had anything to do with police work, and instead it was all happenstance or luck or the villains basically telling on themselves.

I feel like there's more stories left to be told in the Foster universe, but I would like for the series to go back to being in essence detective novels.

Thank you to Kaye Publicity and Amazon Publishing for the advanced copy to review.

Echo by Tracy Clark is the third and final book in this series, and I have enjoyed all three. Detective Harriet Foster is flawed, which comes through in her work while trying to solve her cases. This time a college student is found dead in a field near Hardwicke House, home to the exclusive Minotaur Society, and said student happens to be the son of a billionaire. His death ‘echoes an unsolved case from 30 years prior, and off we go. As with the other two books, this grabs you from the start and keeps your attention all the way through, I read this in two sittings only because I had to sleep in between lol. The audio was excellent also, I listened and followed along with the physical copy and enjoyed it that way. I loved this book and the series overall and definitely recommend it.

I enjoyed this third installment of detective Foster and her colleagues, unraveling the murder of a billionaire’s son at a posh university. It’s different from the other books, and we also get to the bottom of what happened to Foster’s first partner. I hope there will be more in the series, the characters are so compelling!

Thanks to Netgalley and Thomas & Mercer for providing this ARC in exchange for an honest review.

Harri Foster is back investigating a death at an old mansion on a college campus that appears to have happened 30 years after another strange death in the same location. She is also being threatened by the dirty cop her late father blew the whistle on.

I like this series. I think this was a good police procedural. I am getting more acquainted with the characters and more invested in the series overall. I will certainly read more.

I received this audiobook in exchange for an honest review.
So this is the third instalment of the book, and i didnt read the first two books, but i didnt feel like ive been missing ga lot. Ofcourse the background story seemed a bit off to me as i didnt know what happened in the first 2 parts. But i did catch the story in bits and tits.
So coming to the story of this part, the mystery seemed good, there was a good emotional balance and also the emotions and the descriptions were well portrayed. Few parts seemed a bit off and laging but overall this is a good booka nd a good mystery.
The importance of mental wellbeing, the effects of regret, revenge, anguish, and all others were well explored. I did like the struggle of the ML to face her own demons and fight them and get open to others.

Coming to my rating : out of 5 stars
Title :⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ the title indeed made me interested in the story
Cover :⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ the cover is attractive
Character development :⭐️⭐️⭐️ the development of the ML and the struggles, and the outcome in the last seemed a bit satisfying to read
Writing style :⭐️⭐️⭐️ the writing is good, understandable and also the descriptions and portrayal of emotions is done well
Originality :⭐️⭐️⭐️ few concepts and facts in the story were somewhat my first time knowing them, but in general the plot seemed a bit usual kind.
Plot :⭐️⭐️⭐️ the plot is good, and also the story, but the mystery element was not that top-notch
Overall :⭐️⭐️⭐️in the end I did enjoy the story, but I would not be so sure if I’m picking up the next instalment. But I would let time decide.

Audio rating : out of 5 🎶
Narration Quality :🎶🎶🎶🎶 I did like the voice of the narrator
Pacing :🎶🎶🎶 the pacing of the story seemed a bit slow
Production Quality :🎶🎶🎶 okayish
Engagement : 🎶🎶🎶 the narrator did keep me engaged in the story
Overall Enjoyment : 🎶🎶🎶 I did enjoy indeed.

I was really involved in this crime series from start to finish. Even though I hadn’t read the previous detective books, it didn’t take long for me to get hooked. The story kept me engaged with its intricate plot and constant suspense.

The pacing was perfect, and each twist in the case pulled me deeper into the investigation. I found myself eager to see how the detective would piece everything together. The characters were complex and well-written, especially the lead detective, whose sharp instincts made every clue feel crucial.

Even though I missed some of the earlier context, this book was still a fantastic read. I’m now eager to dive into the previous books in the series. If you enjoy crime thrillers with great depth and unexpected turns, this one is definitely worth checking out.

I just could not get into this, so I have given up at about 25% in. I think I may have made a mistake starting with book 3 in the series, as there seems to be a lot of history that I'm not getting. The problem is that there seems to be some sort of conspiracy stuff going on, which just doesn't appeal to me. The stuff about the current case is interesting enough, but very slow to develop, and I lost interest.
