Strange University

Enter a strange new world, where students ride gargoyles to class, vampires solve murders, and classes start at night under the full moon...

My name is Simon Meadows, blood-drinker.

I am an ethical vampire. I only prey on wicked men, never on the innocent. For this, my coven condemned me to a half-century of darkness, buried alive in my own coffin with only my feeble psychic cries for help.

Then, a voice answered. He offered me freedom in exchange for a sacred vow to guard a paranormal university—a school of magic and danger, where students wield supernatural powers, demons prowl from other worlds, and professors teach the secrets of the paranormal. A place where the multiverse reveals its wonders and horrors.

But now, a student is dead. A killer is on the loose, wielding a weapon that can shatter worlds, a fury that can scorch souls, and a twisted method that will never cease. I must find him before he destroys everything I cherish, including my werewolf apprentice and my shapeshifting best friend, and the unusual school I have come to call my home, Strange University.

And I thought being buried alive was hard.

I write fantasy, horror and dystopian fiction that focuses on character development and transformation. My heroes are often gifted teens and conflicted men and women battling oppressive forces, banding together to survive, and overcoming personal demons to achieve their goals. My worlds and landscapes are strange, foreign and surreal - sometimes terrifying but always full of adventure.

I enjoyed reading Strange University. I love fantasy books and detective novels so having this blend of both is perfect, although I feel like due to the nature of the book being set in a world with vampires (and all the other common types of people/creatures associated) meant the plot didn't feel very original. I felt the book was a bit slow to start, as the narrator was fleshing out his world, but as it was also about vampires it likely isn't something totally new or surprising. However I did like the non-linear narrative style in that portion of the book. I also really enjoyed the characters though, I felt like they were all very distinct and I enjoyed the humour between them. I can't wait to see where this story will lead in future books.

A new twist on the good vampire

Simon loved his brother and they had made an oath to be with each other and protect each other forever. When his brother becomes a vampire. Simon begs to be made one as well. After he is turned his brother meets a stake on purpose. After that Simon gathers like minded vampires who only feed on evil people. Until he tries to save\convert a power hungry vampire, who imprisons him for 50 years. That ended when a magical found him and recruiting him as security for a magical academy in an alternate universe.
Normally I do not care for academy themed books. This one is different. No isolated, misunderstood girl meeting the most handsome guy on campus. There are no sex scenes, just friends. I'll be looking for book two.

This was the first fantasy book i have read where it starts in the 1800s where Simon is buried by his best friend. Released if he chooses to take on the university job. Which is a challenge for the students of the university do not like vampires and there is a killer out there killing of students that Simon needs to protect no matter what, even if it means his own life. This book involves different kinds of creatures such as gargoils, angels, wherewolves and so much more.

2 1/2 stars. I had a hard time getting into this one. It started to slow but as it got into the meat of the murder investigation and the friendship between the main character and two others really got going I liked it. There was some fun banter and some decent action. Nothing really out of the box, but a decent read.

Interesting Story!!!

Simon is definitely an interesting vampire. I'm impressed with him. Roddy and Shayna are quite the same. I think we definitely need more of this universe!

Recommend to read.

I loved the book. The vampire like to ramble more than talk out loud. I would recommend to others. I give it 4 stars.

Good read!

Good storyline, started strong then got weird but then pulls you right back in! Good surprise toward the end, even if it was a little cliche, but good.
