I’m so depressed writing this review because I wanted to love this soooo bad 😭😭😭

The romance felt forced and I found myself not caring for them at all. The trope is rivals to lovers which isn’t my thing either 😏

ARC copy provided in exchange for an honest review. This in no way changes my rating or review.

This book was like a warm hug, but with dragons, and rivals that call you “darling!

“To be a wanderer was in my soul.

Brewed in Magic was a cozy, sweet, lighthearted romance with the added bonus of being set in a fantasy world and it was so much fun. Everything was very low stakes and just an easy palate cleanser read, and our main couple were so cute both had well developed characters and, as always, I appreciated the dual POV!

“Then we’ll wander as long as you want the only home I’ll ever need is you.

I will admit that there was so much chaos happening in the third act of the book that I could barely keep up but nonetheless, it was fun! Sprinkle in an adorable dragon, motherly mountain troll, and hilarious and loyal best friend, and this had everything I needed for a really enjoyable read. Plus a little bit of steam for my smut lovers, and some cute cameos of our fav couple from book #1 in this cozy series. All in all, I’m very happy!

My cozy romantasy cravings were highly satisfied thank you so much to the author, publisher and Netgalley for the ARC copy provided :).

I'm going back and trying to read some books that have lingered on my TBR or series that I haven't continued. While I did like the core elements of this book (the coziness, the cute dragon companion, the goodhearted h with the initially suspicious but ultimately goodhearted H, and the fantasy world), I ultimately just wasn't super invested in this book and felt like I sort of bobbed along the surface. There's a bit of mystery and a slow burn romance, but neither felt like urgent or particularly strong. The first book felt like it had more depth of story and characters than this one did, for me at least. I was also frustrated as hell at the townspeople that the h thought had her back, when they were often wishy-washy. But it was an entertaining read and again, cute dragon companion always a win. The ending is HEA and adorable, showing the characters a year into the future and catching the reader up with what transpired and ending on a note of what their future holds.

Written in first person, dual POV. No ow drama (h thinks H may have hooked up with someone, he doesn't, it's quickly resolved), no om drama, and H seemed like he had experience while the h mentally thinks about how what they're doing is new to her, so I assumed she had none.

Wolfhart was meant to write cozy fantasy! Brewed in Magic is the second stand alone in her Falling for Fables series and I cannot get enough of them! I fell in love with these characters almost instantly.

A free spirited elf with her traveling tavern, and a new handsome charismatic man who happens to be a rival tavern owner competing for their place at the Yule festival.

These two go from rivals, to reluctant allies working together to solve a Yule ruining mystery, to bantering lovers.

I couldn’t get enough of this book and eagerly await the next!

*thank you to the publisher and netgalley for the ARC, all thoughts are my own.

"Brewed in Magic," the second installment in Jenna Wolfhart's Falling for Fables series, weaves a delightful tale of love, rivalry, and whimsy in a world filled with dragons, magic, and enchanting festivals.
The protagonist, Lilia, is a free spirit with a heart that yearns for connection. Her days are spent on the road, accompanied only by a dragon and her famous Traveling Tavern. Despite her wanderlust, she longs for a deeper connection with someone who shares her adventurous spirit. Enter a handsome stranger who seems to be the perfect kindred spirit, until he mysteriously disappears.
The plot takes an unexpected turn when it is revealed that the mysterious stranger is not only a fellow traveler but also a rival with his own traveling tavern. As the winter festival approaches, tensions rise as Lilia suspects him of sabotaging the event by stealing supplies. The ensuing tale is a charming mix of mystery, romance, and fantasy.
What sets "Brewed in Magic" apart is the engaging dynamic between Lilia and her rival. Their evolving relationship is filled with sparks that gradually melt the icy barriers between them. The author skillfully navigates the complexities of trust and companionship, making the reader root for this unlikely pair.
The world-building in Falling for Fables is enchanting, and Wolfhart brings it to life with vivid descriptions of magical elements and whimsical festivals. The concept of traveling taverns adds a unique and enjoyable layer to the story, making it a fun and immersive read.
One of the strengths of this cozy romantasy is its lovable cast of characters. From the spirited protagonist to the mysterious rival, each character is well-developed and contributes to the overall charm of the narrative. The inclusion of dragons, magic, and festivals further adds to the book's appeal, creating a world that readers will find both magical and relatable.
"Brewed in Magic" is a standalone novel that successfully captures the essence of a cozy fantasy romance. Jenna Wolfhart's storytelling is both heartwarming and entertaining, making it a delightful read for fans of the genre. Whether you're drawn to the enchantment of magical worlds or the allure of budding romances, this book is sure to leave you with a smile.

I am giving this 2.5 stars. I wish I had enjoyed it like other people, but it missed the mark for me. Even though it is marked as a standalone, I felt like I could have learned more about the world in the previous book (just speculating). This was a fast paced enemies to lovers book. The reason I did not give it more stars was because I didn't feel like there was a ton of substance, and I had a harder time connecting with the characters. Also the plot seemed to switch directions a few times which seemed unnecessary and confusing.

The overall gist is that there is an annual festival that our FMC (Lilia) attends every year. En route to said festival, she meets a man who she finds an instant connection with. However, she doesn't get his name and in the morning, he is gone. She finds him a few hours later at the festival in HER spot. She is enraged but overruled when she asks the board of the festival to move his spot. After finding Lilia sneaking in his wagon to gain some info on her competition, Ragnar. He finds her and blackmails her into some of her ale which goes missing the next day from his wagon. Now they are working together to determine who stole the ale so the festival can go on.

The person who was ultimately trying to ruin the festival was a surprise but disappointing. There was a lot of buildup to several areas of the plot that then fell flat. This just wasn't for me unfortunately. I do want to thank NetGalley and the publisher for a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

3 Missing Keg Stars
Spicy Level: 🌶️🌶️/5

To brew ale takes chemistry...something that I felt was lacking in these two...
It's still cosy though....

It's been a long time since I directly jumped into a book's sequel after finishing the first one. So I had HIGH expectations for this one, given how much I adored Forged in Magic

This story gave us a standalone romance following Livia (The MMC's younger sister from book 1). I wanted to see her story unfold, she was a sweet and cute character before and I had HIGH Hopes... ANYWAY, she is a brewmaster, travelling to a town for the annual Yule festival. Along the way, she meets a stranger, Ragnar, and shares an ale he provides (which is NOT AS GOOD AS HER ALE) because he essentially helps her with the "fantasy" equivalent of changing a flat tyre - removing her wagon from a pothole. So the next morning he DISAPPEARS and it turns out...dum dum dum... he is a rival brewmaster who has sped to the festival before her to sneak into her spot to be the tavern of choice at the Festival. However, events quickly change and Livia and Ragnar's ale is stolen, so the two become little Sherlock Holmes and Dr. Watson to try to track down the thief and save the Yule Festival.

Now, I was a little bit disappointed in this one because I just felt that the two characters and their personalities felt weak, not in an underdeveloped way, but more... they had no backbone and were both so quick to want to avoid conflict than solve the mystery of the missing ale. Like Livia would rather brew more ale than make a fuss about getting HER PROPERTY BACK...

Also, it just didn't sit right with me that something in their relationship was lacking. They didn't have the same spark and pull (AKA CHEMISTRY) that I had seen with Rivelin and Daella. It was as if these two formed a relationship because they had similar interests, had a similar wonder for life, and happened to be in the same place at the same time.

Now don't get me wrong, individually the characters were okay. Livia is determined to make her own way. She is loved by everybody and she's very much a "wander the world" soul as she doesn't want to settle down. She hasn't yet found that connection to any place or person through all of her travels to put down roots into anything.

Ragnar is literally just a sweet, gooey cinnamon roll and an all-around nice guy. I TOTALLY put my eyebrows up when the whole "wagon pothole" situation happened because my mom and all the dark romances I have read have taught me about "Stranger Danger." BUT NO... he's just a generally nice, lovable guy.

Another one of my frustrations with this book is that it felt like the plot was going in circles. They would find something and then it would lead nowhere, and then they'd find something again and it would lead nowhere. And then they'd find something AGAIN and it would lead nowhere!!! Then when they DID FIND SOMETHING OF VALUE - Livia didn't want to inconvenience them my confronting them for stealing that she's just MAKE A WHOLE BATCH OF 12 barrels of ALE... if you're such a strong-willed "wonder and make my own way" woman? Why are you so pathetic?

Tropes in this include:
 Cosy Fantasy
 Dual POV
 Forced Proximity
Enemies Rivals to Lovers
 "Saving Christmas"
 Dragons and Dragon Shifters
 Forehead Kisses
 Sit on my face...

In the end, this was cute and fluffy and very VERY low stakes because they kept avoiding any stakes in the first place. Basically if you can imagine a fantasy Christmas Hallmark movie with ale, this would be it.

I will preface by saying I wasn’t a huge fan of the first book in this series but I wanted to give it one last try because the last book had some interesting elements and ideas.

Unfortunately, this book just didn’t do it for me. I’m not sure if it’s because of the shorter length but nothing really feels developed. Our two main characters, Lilia & Ragnar, have a very quick enemies-to-lovers quarrel that barely lasts a few chapters for it to have any payoff.

Speaking on each character individually, I didn’t feel like Lilia had much character or really anything that made me care about whether she succeeded. She’s a wanderer and that’s about all I can say is clearly present in her personality. Her past is brutal but it’s never really expressed how that affects her as a person. I just found her to be very plain.

As for Ragnar, I wish we had a few more chapters in his POV because I think it would have helped his character a lot. Again, a character that has a very brutal past that doesn’t really matter much to their present persona. Him being a dragon is SO INTERESTING and yet we barely get to let it sink in before the book hurries to find a way to end everything.

The ending of the last book was one of the reasons I didn’t enjoy it. I thought it was way too fast paced in comparison to the rest of the story and the same thing happened again. Like this dude named Lars literally just appears from thin air to take blame for a whole lot of things that needed explaining. He’s captured in seconds (mind you, he’s a literal mercenary) and it just…ends. As the reader, I felt nothing because this character meant nothing and had no connection to Ragnar aside from what was told to us. Not to mention the people of Riverwold are horrible and I refuse to believe these are the most peaceful individuals. At least in the last book, they treated bad behavior as an actual threat because 99% of that village was actually decent.

I understand these are cozy fantasies, but I feel like they possess some elements that are too heavy (like their pasts or the fights) so it gets quickly glossed over to keep it cozy. But I’d argue that we never needed those elements in the first place. I would much rather have the stories lack a true antagonist than shoehorn one in and that focus more on the characters than trying to build some elaborate plot it can’t contain.

Lastly, the spice was alright. Nothing jaw dropping but not terrible. Side characters are pretty one-dimensional but fine otherwise. And as for some positives, I love the concepts of this world (like the Isle’s heart) and I wish there was more focus on it. Reykur stealing the ale was really cute and unexpected. Ragnar’s backstory, though underdeveloped, has such potential. And the cover is gorgeous just like the last one but it would take a really interesting storyline to keep me interested in a future addition to the series.

i really wanted to love this 💔😢

similar to the first book in the Falling for Fables series, i breezed through this. it was an easy read with a sprinkle of spice here and there. really enjoyed how the rivalry between Lilia and Ragnar was short-lived. to see their relationship blossom from strangers, to enemies, to lovers was nice to see and a change of scenery for me i guess.

however, it kinda fell flat as the book progressed.

though this book was supposed to be low-stakes, i didn’t expect it to be that low? i don’t really know how to explain it 😭 there were major plot points that could’ve been developed more but it was so anticlimactic. i also found a few plot holes and red herrings which kinda sucked :(

as much as i found the romance between Lilia and Ragnar to be cute, i felt like the chemistry between them faded into oblivion towards the second half of the book. i didn’t feel a connection with them (unlike the previous book with Rivelin and Daella) which was quite sad.

and how i wish that there were more of Ragnar’s POV!! he had so much potential fr 😔✊

and then i reached the 80% mark

like what was going on? there were too many things going on at once and it felt really chaotic towards the end. i think Jenna decided to focus more on the character development + world-building aspect of this book rather than the “action/drama, because everything was rushed which made it really confusing and exhausting, even at the 90% mark. this messed up the pacing quite a bit for me which made it very frustrating. and who tf is Lars LMFAO???

i also felt like the resolve between Lilia and Ragnar was quite abrupt and felt like their HEA was underdeveloped which was really disappointing 🥲

this book had so much potential and i hate that i had to give it this rating 😢

I looked at him, and he looked at me, and suddenly, the world seemed to make sense for once. This man. I felt like I'd been looking for him my whole life, and I'd never realized it until now.

3.75 stars

Unfortunately I did not love this one as much as the first book. The pacing of this book was not consistent and many big reveals felt glossed over in favor of other minor plot lines that went nowhere. Because both Ragnar and Lilia were holding back from forging a bond for different reasons, I never truly felt a deep connection between them. They seemed to go from mistrusting to in love in mere pages, and I didn't believe it. I don't know if I'll continue this series as I'm only reading for RARE25.

Tropes: secret identity, rivals-to-lovers, cozy romantasy, magical small town, mystery-to-solve, slow burn, steamy🔥

I HAVE AN ADDICTION WITH COZY FANTASY READS IT MAKES ME SO HAPPY AND SMILE SO WIDE THAT IT HURTS THAT MY CHEST BEGINS SQUEEZING WHERE I NO LONGER KNOW HOW TO BREATH.

Rivals to lovers, competing who serves the best drinks in the Yule festival, a sweet mystery where they are forced to work together, and a bit of angst that leads to a happily ever after😩🫶🤧

This is the second book from the falling for fables series but can be read as a complete standalone because each book has a different plot and couple. The first book as many of you know “forged by magic happens to be one of my fave reads of all time, Rivlen, the love interest in that book has a sister, Lilia, who is a wanderer and has a traveling tavern. She’s headed to the Yule festival to serve the best ale I’m town for the folk, but a man happened to have taken her spot for the year serving his own ale, and of course that made her angry. “Brewed in magic is her following along her journey and finding her own love and happiness in this world.

My heart feels so content that I can’t wait to see who the next story is about 🫣

I’m sad about this one. I love the first one in this standalone series. This one, I couldn’t get into. I just could not bring myself to care about these characters. It wasn’t the worst book I’ve ever read, it just was in no way memorable or anything exciting.

jenna wolfhart, you have a special place in my heart. just like the first part of this series, forged by magic, brewed by magic is just as cozy and mystical. i’m completely obsessed with this world and i’m so happy i got to be a part of it yet again. i already fell in love with lilia in the first book, but this book solidified my love for her. she’s an amazing, sweet, and caring character that deserves all the good things in the world. same goes for ragnar. his lore was very interesting and i applaud his persistence and the softness in his heart despite all the hardships he has faced. i really enjoyed their dynamic and how their relationship progressed. i’m also so happy that the dragons had a big part in this book, and that the dragon had a personality that continued to change as the story progressed.

this book is a perfect cozy fantasy, so if you’re into those vibes you’ll adore this book. the stakes aren’t that stressful, so reading this book paired nice cup of tea and a candle would be the perfect vibes. i really hope the author continues this series because there are so many characters that deserve their own book. plus, i’m kind of obsessed with this world and i need more.

thank you so much to the publisher for an arc via NetGalley. you have my deepest gratitude. all opinions are honest and my own.

this book was so good! so many plot twists, and right when you think you’ve got it all figured out! the only reason this didn’t get a 5⭐️ is because of the typos(i’m usually not picky about this but when one comes up during a spicy scene, it’s a mood killer lol)

Eh. Similar to the last one. Cute enough but plagued with convenient and ridiculous plot devices. These isles are full of people who jump to conclusions and then bust out the pitchforks and silly virgin women who, upon being presented with absolutely 0 proof and or even a single reasonable accusation/argument, immediately assume the worst of the person they were in love with 15 seconds prior. Sexy bits were also meh. Despite the excellent covers, I wouldn't read the next one.

Quick and cozy little romantasy. It was wholesome, whimsical, and a little bit steamy. A short but sweet easy read.

Perfect for the holidays as it centers around a winter Yule celebration, so maybe save it for the end of the year holiday season!

I am loving these little stand alones that still share the same world and characters. I will definitely read the next one in the collection when it comes out, I’m hoping it’s about the pixie bard singer.

Also the covers for both books are so cute

“Lilia. I reached out and tucked a wayward strand of silver hair behind her ear, my fingers gently brushing her skin. She shivered and looked back at me. The flush had crept down her neck. “Come here. Her eyes darted back and forth between mine.

“I am here.

“Come closer, so I can kiss you.

5/5 Stars for being adorable, unique, easy and such a good second book.
2/5 spice

I thought I loved the first book so much and I can easily say Brewed in Magic was JUST as good. This book gave exactly what it needed to give, the authors note in the beginning (and much like book one) explains low stakes, easy and cozy reading. Its absolutely what my mood called for and it hit the nail on the head.

Lilia was such a fun character in book one & I absolutely adored her in this one too. We got to see a lovely rivals to lover story with her and Rangar and I ate it up completely. Her character is so unbelievably loyal to everyone she loves and she still makes her own independent decisions with herself as a priority. She loves to wander and travel which stayed consistent throughout the book and Ragnar was able to break down her walls with the development of their relationship.

It was then I realized his mouth was moving. He stopped talking, then cocked his head. I blinked, my cheeks heating.

“I’m sorry? The left side of his lips tilted up in a half-smile—or a smirk.

“I asked if you’re all right. Do you need to sit down? You look a bit flushed.

THE FLIRTINGGGGG in this book had me blushing and kicking my feet.

Ragnar was a big boy with a few secrets. I adored their flirty banter and innuendo's so freaking much. I loved their little competitions and knowing the things he did for her even as a rival. We got only a few chapters of his POV but every one I just wanted to eat up. I loved that even when the climax of the book was happening Lilia still stood by him and trusted that he didn't do the "crime" at hand.

“I’d spend forever wandering the world with you, he murmured.

I swoon.

I adored every minute of this, no third act breakup, no violent fighting but still had conflict. You get a pet dragon and a lovely spicy scene. If you want a magical pallet cleanser I would 100% tell someone to read these books.

The author said both can be read as standalones and while that is true I would still say read Forged in Magic prior to reading this one!

3.5/5 ⭐️’s

I absolutely adore cozy romantasys. Forged by Magic was great, so when I saw the sequel as a physical copy at my local indie romance bookstore, I knew I had to get it.

I loved the premise of this book. It gives off a “saving Christmas sort of vibe. Following Lilia, our brewmaster, made it for an interesting take as well. I also loved how much of a cinnamon roll Ragnar was.

I will say I got a bit annoyed with the plots of this book. We’d go to discover something just for it to not matter. Over and over again. The reveal at then end felt out of nowhere as well. It was more convenient than anything. If Ragnar had more POV chapters, I could see the ending being helped just a little bit more with them.

Overall, I will keep reading the series because like I said, I’m a sucker for anything cozy set in a fantasy world.
