Caught in Chaos #1

Date with Danger

Rate this book
I, Amelia Quinn, am dating again.

I must be out of practice though because I sat down at the wrong man’s table…and kissed him. And now I’m wrapped up in the middle of an FBI case DREAM COME TRUE!

Except the super sexy agent doesn’t want my help solving this case.

I, Caleb Harris, am a stupid, stupid man. Nothing says rookie agent like kissing a civilian just to get rid of her.

But somehow that didn’t even work because she keeps showing up wherever our suspect is. And now, I’m not so sure she’s innocent in all this. Especially when someone ends up dead.

Date With Danger is a closed door, light hearted, romantic comedy with mystery and suspense.

Second read rating: Pending...
I know I've read this not too long ago, but I feel like I fast read it and didn't absorb everything fully. So I want to read and enjoy it again! 🤗

First read rating: 4 stars.

You would find me there where action/spy rom-coms are.

The story is super engaging, and the characters are well-developed, but sometimes Amelia's crazy antics are a bit too much and kind of repetitive. However, the book is still a blast with its fun vibe and romantic sparks flying all over. If you're up for a breezy, adventurous romance with a hint of danger, this one is totally worth a shot. Just be prepared for Amelia to drive you a little crazy along the way!

The premise was there and I could see what the author was trying to do. It was light, an easy read and mildly enjoyable. The writing style was slightly juvenile and took away from the story for me. There was no need for the excessive usage of short sentences in the book, like it’s okay to have complex sentences 😶‍🌫️ The mystery was incredibly weak as well and I don’t think the romance & mystery was juggled very well in the later half.

Amelia was funny at first but she had 0 development by the end, so that was jarring. Caleb was actually a pretty decent character and it would have been nice to see him fleshed out more. They had great chemistry, I just wish the handling of their actual getting together was better.

There’s great potential in Jenessa’s writing so hopefully she releases more in the future that I could maybe give a try as well.

It's so wonderful I don't know what to write!

The author came with the most amazing FMC I've ever read! She's pure chaos and she delivered comedy with every sentence/action and thought. She's a walking/talking laughs and giggles.

And She falls first and pursuits the MMC relentlessly. We don't see much books about MMC playing hard to get and the FMC not giving up on him!
And in this book it works perfectly because the MMC is interested from day one. It just takes him a bit longer to open up and embrace love.
But our MMC is great, he's sexy and compassionate and spoils our FMC like no other.

Although this is a brilliant rom-com, it has also a mystery side-trope. And the mystery is quite astonishing. I did not guess the culprit and it was executed like those beautiful 2000s chick-flicks (I'm remembering Sandra Bollock in Miss Congeniality).

I promise you'll be in for a good treat and bunch of laughs if you gave Date With Danger a chance. The more years I read English romance books, the more I discover that the best ones are still under the radar. And I look forward to discover more books from this particular author.

This book is just the perfect blend of hilarity, mystery, suspense and of course romance!

I absolutely loved that this book was inspired from the show Psych and that there were so many one-liners from it!

I loved that I totally did not guess the bad guy and that Janessa always kept me on my toes with the mystery. I loved that Caleb was Amelia’s direct opposite, yet they balanced each other well.

Sometimes Amelia’s antics and quirkiness was a lot to handle, but even she admitted she was a lot. I loved that Caleb was always there to keep her protected even when she was driving him batty for a variety of reasons.

Caleb was the perfect protective hero who took his job seriously but at the same time couldn’t keep himself from the magnet of Amelia.

If you are looking for a true Romcom but with enough mystery and suspense to keep things unpredictable this is it!

Physical Intimacy Level 2.5 (bit more detailed making out: biting lips, neck kisses, cuddling with the MMCs shirt off etc)

Heroine reminded me of Dory (from Finding Nemo) but instead of endearing, her personality was just annoying. Really, the emotional quotient of a 3 year old. I had violent thoughts towards her. Hero was ok, but didn't really do it for me. The plot was nice, but h's personality just spoils it.

Amelia is frustratingly stupid

I was genuinely interested in the mystery/murder/ theft case and the story also was pretty funny. I had several laugh out loud moments. I'm giving this a 3 star for a couple reasons. First, this is considered a clean romance but it's very heavy on the sexual chemistry and attraction, which I think is okay in healthy, moderate doses. Other than the two characters liking each other physically, I really don't get why they were "falling" for each other. Caleb was a jerk to Amelia, and I never like when authors make women these desperate chasers after men who either clearly don't want a relationship or display very toxic behavior. Caleb wasn't necessarily toxic, I actually liked him more than I liked Amelia, and I understood he was trying to keep distance to protect Amelia and because he was in the middle of solving a high stakes case. It's honestly understandable. But Amelia didn't know this or get this or refused to get this and continued to be annoyingly persistent. It's not romantic. It's thirsty and disillusioned. Ladies, please know your worth and let a man actively pursue you. The biggest reason why I can't give this a higher rating and why I couldn't even finish the book is because Amelia is frustratingly stupid and VERY toxic. I don't know what Caleb saw in her she was so, so dumb. And not just dumb, but proud and stubborn, the kind of idiocy that persists to have it's own way and completely ignore sound counsel when it could save her own life. I hate when authors make characters stupid for the sake of plot. Again, Amelia was such an idiot. Worse still, she was aware of her idiotic, toxic behavior but just wanted someone to love her and accept her for who she was. Listen, when the criticisms are valid, you need to change! Stop being so stubborn and stupid. This was a murder case!!!! She was so selfish and self absorbed it really turned me off from finding out how it ended, and I really liked where the story was going with mystery and all. But I need characters with more depth or who can at least demonstrate growth if they do have flaws.

That was one wild and crazy ride!!! One of my most favorite romcoms ever. Jenessa definitely puts the “com in romcom. I laughed so much. Grinned so big. And had a blast doing it.

From the moment Amelia appears on page you can’t help but love her quirkiness, her zest for life, and her adorable ability to find herself in the most bizarre and unexpected situations. If you love Cameron Diaz or Sandra Bullock, then you will love Amelia.

And Caleb!! Who doesn’t love a man undercover, incognito, chasing the bad guys, that can throw you over his shoulder and tie you to a pole just to keep you out of danger?!?

In true romcom fashion, this book is wild, crazy, funny, swoony. A real killer romcom.Everything that can go wrong, does go wrong. But it is so not predictable! Like I was continually laughing my head off and then picking my jaw up off the floor. The twists! The kisses! The dogs! The banter! The NICKNAMES!!!! THE “EPIC”LOGUE!!

If you want a good time and don’t mind some bad guys with guns and crochet needles, and a little, or a little more than a little blood, read it!

“It’s been two days since I kissed a stranger. And I’m still as annoyed as ever. And possibly still dreaming of that kiss.

This is my first book by this author and I was impossibly captivated from the very first page to the very last sentence. I couldn’t get enough of the vivid chemistry between this unlikely grumpy/sunshine duo and the antics that ensued from their accidental meeting. I laughed so hard, swooned even harder, and was mesmerized by the elements of danger, intrigue, suspense, and intricate tangles of connections.

I didn’t want to put this book down and started telling anyone around me who even gave me half a listening ear all about it. I’m officially obsessed and need to clear my schedule to read everything this author has written. Her writing style has me bewitched and I loved every single drop of this story. Caleb and Amelia are my new favorite couple and I didn’t want this to end.

Content: mild+ violence (dead bodies, danger/intrigue/shootings/crime); mild+ romance (swoony make-outs, light innuendo)

This is my first book by Jenessa Fayeth. Maybe it's me, but does a person's sense of humor change the older they become? I read a review of this book that said it was an extremely funny "laugh out loud" story. Nope. There were a few bits of humor, but nothing in the LOL category for me.

The main female character is Amelia Quinn. A very annoying and irritating woman that drove me nuts. I almost didn't finish the book, but my curiosity about how it would end won out. The male leading character Caleb, was not much better. I lost count of how many times he thought about not wanting to be like his father and that it was best to avoid serious relationships with women altogether. It was just too much.

If the reader can make it through the first 80% of the book, then they will have invested enough time to go ahead and finish it. It's a solid two stars because the author never provided solid closure on Liam's character; and most of the other characters in my opinion, were not very likeable.

To end on a good note, the book cover is pretty cute.

I didn’t think any book could live up to Juniper Bean, but this book definitely comes in at a close second! Killer Rom-Coms are legit one of the best things out there!

Amelia was literally the most hilarious FMC I’ve read about in a long time. From going on a date with someone from a dating app, to assuming the guy she sees at a table is her date, to being kissed by an FBI agent, to being shoved into an alleyway, it never ends! This book kept me highly enthralled the entire time! There were times I was so certain I knew what was going on and who the bad guy was, but oh, how wrong I was! This book was packed with all the action, passion, and angst you could ever ask for. Go read it! You won’t regret it!

I loved all the Psych references! Literally made this book so much better because of them. “Come on, Son!

Caleb was the perfect hot FBI agent. His fierce protectiveness he felt for Amelia was absolutely swoon worthy! I loved that we got to see him worth through his trauma and issues and get his happy ending ♥️

Hilarious moments:
🕶 The “date
🕶 The “kidnapping
🕶 The stalking
🕶 Tying her to a pole
🕶 The tub incident
🕶 The stakeout
🕶 The endless flirting
🕶 Jello in the hospital
🕶 The handcuffs

After loving everything this author puts out, this one was unfortunately not a hit. The FMC was absolutely infuriating and immature. At one point, I had to agree with her ex. She was "too loud, too blunt, too immature, and too much of a dreamer." The meet cute between Amelia and Caleb was full on cringe when Amelia mistakes her date and instead of telling her, Caleb immediately rolls with it and goes "she's in danger" when he could have easily explained he wasn't her date and extracted her from the situation. And then, when Amelia has the gull to say “Well, my date didn’t think to order for me, so I’ll have the most expensive thing on the menu. He’s paying, I believe?, there was no redeeming her. Nowhere is this behavior okay.

The only saving grace was Caleb, who I wanted a story from ever since reading Not How I Saw That Going. Caleb had some common sense issues, but at least he didn't act like an excitable cop bunny who can't behave.

Ahhhh! That was just the best and I won’t be forgetting this book anytime soon! Date with Danger started off so fun and only got better from there! I love Amelia. She was so outspoken and confident with a quirky personality. Caleb was more serious with a depth and vulnerability to him that made him the perfect hero. He was constantly at war with himself. He wants Amelia but tells himself they can never be together because of his job and his past. Amelia and Caleb have the most amazing chemistry and share the most explosive kisses. The banter and humor throughout the book are just fantastic and nothing is predictable. There were so many surprises I never saw coming. I didn’t know how it would fit together until the very end. The ending is just perfection and stays true to the characters. This is my first book by Jenessa and I can’t wait to read more. It was so well done!

*3.5 stars

I picked this up strictly because I'd heard it was chock full of "Psych" references, and since that's one of my favorite shows of all-time, I figured I'd give it a shot.

Credit where credit is due, it genuinely surprised me a couple of times. The answer of whodunnit was a twist! I liked that! I also laughed out loud a lot and I appreciate that. The "Psych" references were excellent and made me smile and it confirmed again how much I love that show.

Unfortunately there was a lot I didn't love. Not that it was bad, just not to my taste, I guess. Amelia is fun, and funny, but after awhile she's just a touch too silly and over-the-top for me. (sorry, girl. I'm glad you're not too much for Caleb. I wish you both all the happiness in the world. 😂) The lead characters spend a lot of time thinking about how hot they find each other, wishing they were kissing, and not paying as much attention as I think I'd pay to the murder plot going on?? but maybe that's me, idk.

Remarkably, though, I do think I'll read the sequel. The characters that one centers on are very intriguing to me, and I'm curious enough to check it out. Overall, it was fine. It's not bad. It's not great. I had a good time, and it gets 3.5 stars for that!

**content warning for a couple instances of mild profanity, lots of kissing/making out, and murder/murder victims

Genre: romcom murder mystery mashup
Content: makeouts

I AM OBSESSED WITH THIS BOOK!!!! I have been intrigued since Jenessa did the cover reveal, and let me tell you: the inside did not disappoint! I love it SO much! The characters are incredible. Millie and her antics are hilarious, and watching Caleb try to figure out a way to resist her endearing quirkiness is amusing, to say the least.

The pacing is perfect, and I did NOT see the plot twist coming. Honestly, I looked like these emojis 😲🤯 while reading. I can’t say enough good things about it. YOU ABSOLUTELY DO NOT WANT TO MISS THIS ONE!!!

Favorite Quotes:
😏 "Oh, I'm not done with you." Her eyes narrow, ready to let me have it. I'm almost ready to let her give it. Something tells me I'd enjoy it immensely.

🌪 "You may be a menace, but I'd be lying if I said I didn't enjoy being caught up in your tornado."

⚠️"I'd never take advantage of you." I
squeeze his hand. He lifts an amused
brow. "You were totally feeling my pecs this morning." My cheeks strain under the growing smile. "So, I'm not perfect. But I promise, you're safe with me." He shakes his head, a short burst of laughter escaping. "I'd never be safe with you, Amelia Quinn."

🩷 I'd rather show her all the case files on my computer, or teach this reckless woman how to shoot a gun and fire a taser than open my broken soul to her. Which is how I know that if I want something with her, showing her my heart is exactly what I'll have to do. I have to show her my weaknesses.

💋 Every brush of his lips whispers promises that he's not going to pull away this time. That he will always protect me. My kiss says infinitely more. How I'm going to annoy him for as long as he lets me, but I'll always love him.

Oh my goodness... I am completely obsessed!

From the moment I saw this cover, I knew I had to read this book... and thankfully the story inside not only lived up to the expectations, but far exceeded them. From the hilarious meet cute to the epilogue, I found myself laughing throughout this one. Should I be laughing this much when there's a murder involved... hmm, maybe not... but when you read it for yourself you will completely understand. Amelia is absolutely hilarious. She may be a little on the chaotic side... but it's definitely in an endearing way that makes you absolutely fall in love with her character. Caleb certainly finds himself unable to resist her quirky charms. I loved every second of their interactions and didn't want it to end. The chemistry was so wonderfully done. Of course, I love a good mystery, but it was definitely the big comedy moments that really had me falling in love with this story (and kept it light).

This story was Psych inspired and had many references to the show throughout. I'm sure that will appeal to those who are fans of the show even more, but for someone who has never seen an episode at all, I have to say those references didn't at all take away from my understanding or enjoyment. (If anything, it makes me think that perhaps I DO need to watch it!)

Date with Danger is a closed-door romance with kisses only.

So. Much. Fun. Earlier this year I had binge-watched all episodes of the TV show Psych, and it was awesome to get all the references the author slid into the book! There is plenty of comedy, and the author hit that perfect balance of quirky and clever, and added to it great banter, fabulous chemistry, and a suspenseful plot. An undercurrent of angst and character growth didn't take the spotlight, but added a layer of depth that I always appreciate in rom-coms since it helps me feel a connection to the emotions rather than just feel like I'm watching an entertaining fluff movie. Don't get me wrong, though- it was SO entertaining! I love when a book can make me laugh out loud, which isn't all that often. Highly recommend for readers who need some hijinks and romance with their mystery!

This book was absolutely hilarious! But there was also a good dose of romance, angst, suspense, and depth. If you want a RomCom that has more going for it than slapstick humor and cheesy plots (which I always completely enjoy, in the interest of full disclosure), this book will give it to you. I don’t know what we call this subset genre—Murder Mystery RomCom?—but I am here for it!
Amelia is seriously hilarious! I do think I’m real life, she might make me slightly crazy. But some of her ramblings, and her inner dialogue especially, made me laugh out loud. She is reckless and kind and silly and loyal and, as Agent Harris has coined it, a menace. But she is very funny, and I really liked her. I mean, forget what I said about her making me crazy irl. I think I want to be her friend. I want to hear her ramblings and watch her live life to the fullest, including her Psych obsession. Her dogs were so dang funny and their names take the cake. (Also, I really want to watch Psych now.)
Caleb is almost too tender to be an FBI agent. I liked how much Amelia got under his skin and his desire to keep her safe. His relationship with his mom was so sweet, and his friends were really good. I liked his protective nature and how much her felt, even if he thought he didn’t.
The mystery of this one really had me going! There were so many little pieces, and sometimes I couldn’t figure out how to fit them all together. I did figure out a couple things, but mostly I just had some accuracies in the general vicinity of correct. Ha! Honestly, the last 20 percent really had me glued and the suspense was really notched up. It was some seriously good mystery and, I’ll say it again, I am here for it!
I also feel like this has been left open just a tad for a story for Cruz. I can hope, right? I’d go for another Mystery RomCom any day (just a hint hint for you, Jenessa).

First thought: Loved it! From chapter two I was hooked, this is a must read action romance. It is jammed pack of so many good moments. Grab it when it comes out on 6/4/24 and thank me later.

Amelia is a lot, she knows this but after being cheated on by her fiancé she won’t ever change herself for a man again. She is proud of who she is, loudness and all. But she just had the strangest blind date ever. She went into the restaurant and he was already eating, he barely said a thing and just stared at her. Then when she excused herself to go to the bathroom he barged in, then kissed her when she try to question him and somehow he pushed her out the back exit into the alley alone

Caleb is an FBI agent and his assignment is to build a case against Liam an art thief and international criminal. Right now that means he’s sitting at the table across the restaurant tracking Liam as he pretends to have dinner. Then a beautiful woman sits down across from him and he doesn’t know what to do, she somehow thinks he’s her date. This women’s in danger and he needs to get her out of here and fast! He may not have used his best judgment when he kissed her to get her to stop talking and shoved her into the alley to keep her safe. But no woman, not even a beautiful one will get in the way of his assignment.

That’s just their meet cute! I promise this book is action packed, full of lol moments and you will fall in love with Amelia and Caleb as they cross paths hunting for answers.

Literally Themes you’ll find:

* FBI Agent vs Cosmologist
* LOL Moments
* Mistaken Blind Date
* Forced Proximity
