Bits is an action thriller with an artificial intelligence theme.

The story begins with an introduction to FBI agent Clayton Rhodes as he prepares for and participates in an undercover operation. The second chapter relates an unrelated shooting incident that leaves Clayton seriously injured.

The narrative moves forward once more and this time the reader is introduced to a Professor who works in the field of artificial intelligence. At this point I did begin to wonder how all the elements would connect, but the story soon came together and intricately wove its way to an exciting denouement.

The settings and characters really drew me in; I liked the writer’s style. Not always a linear tale, the story weaves back and forth in places, taking its time to create a new set of events. Then just when I thought I knew what was happening, a twist would occur, bringing a whole new development.

The artificial intelligence was dealt with in a convincing and subtle way, no robots in your face, the emphasis was on the human psyche and how AI might pan out in the future. The end pages left me with much to think about. Highly recommended.

“Bits is best classified as an action or thriller novel, a little bit like a Tom Clancy of Kyle Mills read. Following the story of a veteran FBI agent with a tragic past, specialized in undercover operations, the story doesn’t waste much of the reader’s time with scene-setting, backstory, or explorational dialogue. Bits gets right into the action, allowing the reader to infer details about characters (and subtle themes from the author) through the action sequences.

Toward the end of the book, the story takes a plot twist, though the reader will see that coming if they’ve been paying close enough attention to the author’s subtle messaging. However, even if the reader is not surprised, this point in the story marks more of a transition than a big-shock moment, because it’s here that the story becomes a bit more philosophical, and also delves more into the main characters. Then, everything gets tied off with a question mark-shaped bow that makes the reader think just a little bit, fade to white, the end of a satisfying read.

Engaging writing style, and extremely polished for new author’s foray into the genre. It reads quickly and is well worth the time.

An excellent combination of FBI thriller and high tech AI futurism. How do you train an AI to infiltrate a crime syndicate? By letting it study the memories of a seasoned agent. That’s the premise and the story does not disappoint with plenty of twists and turns along the way. I think it’s a better read than audio book as it’s the kind of book you want to flip back some pages and reread sections after a twist. Most of the twists hold up well and enjoyed the ride. Hoping the author becomes famous and can someday have the audio book done again with professional voice actors as some of the accents were often but that’s a quibble at best

Wow, what an exhilarating ride! From the very first page, 'Bits' seizes you with action and doesn’t let up until the very last moment. I listened to the audio version, and the pace was absolutely relentless, keeping me completely hooked as the story unfolded with each gripping scene.

The author’s narration adds a dynamic layer, making it easy to immerse yourself in the world he's crafted. However, while his storytelling is excellent, his attempts at different character accents don’t quite hit the mark. Though this isn't a major drawback, listeners who are particularly sensitive to accent work might find it slightly distracting at times.

Word of advice: do not start this book late at night—unless you're prepared for an all-nighter! Once you're in, there's no turning back. A thrilling, action-packed experience that’s an absolute must-read for any action fan!

I chose to request this audiobook based on the fact we are currently living in a world full of AI & CGI moving more into this area I was curious to raise my awareness and felt this book may help me do so. With that being said I think my spiritual self found it difficult to connect in the way I'd have liked or even anticipated so I did take alot longer to complete this book than I would usually with any other as I had to keep taking breaks. This is definitely much more of a lateral thinking type of book.

Overall Clayton working with a psychiatrist showing how the AI world can be used and is most likely used in ways many of us may not even really recognise or be aware of is truly fascinating and inspiring it definitely opens the awareness to this area if its something you haven't considered is even possible! Sci-fi really isn't so far away as many may think! Lateral thinking combined with spirituality can be a difficult task to navigate when you work with intuition and facts. How can something be so? How is something possible? Well, this book simply makes you question all such things in exactly this way!

The narration at first ironically I found sounded a little robotic, monotone making it a little difficult for me to fully immerse myself in it felt more very factual based not quite an audio that I just melted into more like a thesis I was learning however when I was able to lean in to this idea I found it easier to listen.
I do believe if you're reading the physical book, it would be more enjoyable, but I still enjoyed the main premise of the structure and still the reason I chose to request this stands. I did get what I expected from it a little more awareness that the world we live in is evolving to include AI at a fast-paced level we may not even comprehend!

Well articulated how intelligence, software, and undercover ops can be used to manage or manipulate depending on your view within the movement of these current timelines!

Apologies, this one took me so long to complete and review. It really was just a little deeper than I anticipated! If you're able to dissacosciate and view simply as a fantasy sci-fi, then you will most likely get through this and enjoy it more and read much quicker than I did! Definitely feel that with this one, it was a timing and me thing! Definitely poses many questions between science and faith!

A thriller with an AI edge. The author’s narration was deftly done and I think I enjoyed the book all the more for it. But I can’t say that I enjoyed it all that much.

I was promised The Matrix but there’s not much to be had on that front. This just felt like a secret agent fantasy that many Western men of a certain age have. A lot happens, but the plot is hard to follow. The key idea seems to be the mixed reality integration of a simulated person up to a 25 mile radius and only in certain places which just made me question how all the previous “bits (heh!) had taken place why didn’t something break down at some point? I found it hard to keep track of what was going on, and not in the engaging, twists-n-turns kind of way.

On the writing, there was altogether too much verbiage—not only the rampant infodumps but also in the style of writing, with every detail over-explained and the use of thesaurus speech instead of simple language. I found myself drifting. Who knows—maybe I’m merely a chip in a computer. On that note, I also felt that the whole idea was somehow dated, or at least presented that way, even though this is a rather modern, radical take for the secret agent thriller genre.

Chips, computers, thumb drives I’m side-eyeing the other reviews I dare say that a sympathetic AI somehow breached our reality.

The thriller aspects of this story would make for a good read. Throwing in all the unexpected twists and turns that it takes due to the involvement of artificial intelligence and you’ve got a story that will have you on the edge of your seat, never quite sure what to expect next. That the things depicted in this story might not be wild science fiction someone is imagining could happen in the distant future, but instead things that seem to be, if not possible today, well within what might happen in the near future, makes for that much more of an intense read. The book’s description says it leaves the reader with much to ponder and I agree, this should get you considering AI and its potential repercussions, both good and bad.

I love a good thriller, and this one did not disappoint! I do not know much about artificial intelligence, but that did not stop me from enjoying the suspense and following the story line. Clement did a great job of weaving the story together and throwing in some fun twists along the way! This is a must read!

this was a mega thrill book. a complete page turner. I was kind of hesitant at first, just because sometimes the techno stuff gets a bit much for me, but this was really good. And makes you think. I was very happy in the end that I picked this up and I think people will really enjoy this. Give it a shot.

The novel is a mixture of reality, philosophy, adventure, and Artificial Intelligence all mixed into a vivid and fast-paced adventure. The passage of time between the real world and the AI-fabricated one is captivating and yet unfathomable.
C.K. Kichuk, the author. shows us his versatility as well as his enormous knowledge of philosophy, art, and literature all well integrated into an engaging story of an FBI agent in pursuit of life and redemption.
There is something for everyone, including those interested in the future. Have a great read.
