Spoilers ahead but honestly I was so disappointed with this follow up and was even willing to defend how similar the first book was to blackened blade because it showed some promise. Then it just tanked.

My first issue was that this book was incredibly boring. We are meant to be getting bonding moments with the group and they just come off as mundane and not really connected. She eventually has sex with two of them, after it looked like we were going to wait until she was legally 18. But I guess when she reminded us she was 18 just not really because she went back in time it was then fair game to sleep with some of the mates? And this happened in the last 20 percent of the book.

My second complaint. Don't have dual POVs if they give us absolutely no new information or insight into the characters or their development. Any time we've had another pov it's essentially "hulk mad, hulk smash, hulk love Evelyn" no matter's who's pov we land in. Nothing is added.

Alright last but not least the way that information was given in this book was not great. We ask a question about the family being convinced that Evelyn's family was stealing magic.....and all of a sudden she is taken to the shadow realm and all of it is explained.....and she's told 100 percent that she has 5 mates so we can finally stop with that annoying internal dialogue. I always hate when a poly relationship is an issue for a character who is growing up in a poly society. Like. Why do you care when you say yourself it's common. If we are disbanding the normal society rules and allowing this in the fantasy world why do we spend SO MUCH TIME ON THE BACK AND FORTH. Also as a goddess you have no idea what other God may be assisting the bad guys? No bad blood or feuds that you can think of to warn her? It just seems stupid to bring in a goddess and have her know absolutely nothing helpful.

Last but not least. I didn't read the first book that long ago but I cannot for the life of me remember if I was as annoyed with our male leads as much as I was in this book. None of them have any spark in this book. They are relalegated to simple pieces of their personality like a dwarf straight out of snow white. Oh and that one's grumpy, that one's silly puppy, that one is shy, and that one is quiet. It just fell so flat for me in this follow up.

Edited review add on:
Apparently I'm not done ranting about this book because I remembered I also hated the ending. We get a "omg are they dead" and instant regret from Lucien for being an asshole to his mate. THIS HAS BEEN DONE TOO MUCH. they aren't going to die because obviously they won't and the whole "I've been so mean and nows she's gone" is so bad. Just don't suck in the first place.

Ah I'm disappointed! What I thought was going to be a good revenge book turned into the same "let's save the magical world" book I have read a hundred of times already. You have the special snowflake heroine who's hot (but doesn't know it) AND super powerful and you have her mates who, guess what, are hot AND super powerful.
The 2/3 of this book is pure filler. Boring. Nothing happens. Both plot and relationship wise there's no progression. Then in the last 1/3, the big bad villain dies and we learn there's another magical mysterious woman behind this. Give me a break.
It was a choice to write a RH with a 17 years old girl. A choice I don't like at all. One there's barely any steam and it's muted as fuck (which I liked because the heroine is a minor), but two, WHY CHOOSE A RH ROMANCE WITH A MINOR?!
Evelyn is a teenager and the problem is that her mates (even puppy Chad, the frat boy) are more mature than her and it amplifies how young and dumb she is. It's even more noticeable in this book.

Evelyn being still hung up on Lia was pathetic really. The girl was MEAN. From all the tit bits we learn ed about her (how she gave her second hand clothes to Evelyn, how she used to belittle her all the time, HOW SHE STOLE HER POWERS AND DIDN'T EVEN REGRET IT), and the author wants us to cheer for this girl? Really?!

The plotholes are everywhere too: Morgana is Evelyn's legal guardian but she tries nothing to take her away from the academy. In her past life, Evelyn has a normal life until 3 months before her birthday. Here Morgana goes batshit crazy after Christmas? Why? How could she know Evelyn has a lot of powers and will try to stop her?
It just doesn't make sense.
I'm sad because I liked the first book but this one is a let down. And this mysterious woman (another goddess? Lilith? Nyx?) I don't think I'll care.

Fated for Starfall is the amazing follow-up to JC Dark's Fated for Flames.

I loved that the story takes place over Yule break, which means less class and more hanging out. I enjoyed seeing Evelyn and the guys spending time together, more training than hanging out but still. Their bonds are growing stronger and Evelyn finally gets the family that she's been missing. Plus the steam grew quite a bit since Evelyn and the guys have grown closer and a few things get revealed.

Evelyn and the guys' training comes in handy there was so much sketchy behavior and it was up to them to figure things out. The tea was spilled in this book! We get so many answers not only about the truth behind the Coven leader, Morgana's, intentions but also the truth behind Evelyn's gold eyes. To say I was shocked is an understatement.

Wow, what a read! Fated for Starfall had the best twists and turns, some of the juiciest extras, and a surprising amount of action. However, it was that cliffhanger that blew my mind. Gods, I hope I don't have to wait too long for the next book.

This series is so compelling, I am loving all the characters and their chemistry is just so good.
In this book we find out more about why Evelyn was brought back and what new powers she has. She adapts well to all the changes and is determined to bring Morgana to justice.
The ending was a stunner and I can't wait to see what happens next.

The lack of emotion in the writing and so much telling verses showing made it impossible to enjoy a large chunk of this book. This one has a lot more “romance than book one but I just didn’t feel any of it. I was super bored.

 。゚:Fated for Starfall *. .*:☆゚

⁺₊★.´🎧✩°。 0:56 ──♡───── 3:32 ⁺₊🎧★.·´

🎶 Remember when we couldn't take the heat? I walked out, I said, "I'm setting you free" 🎶

She thought her rebirth was about one thing: getting revenge on those who betrayed her. But she was wrong. The voice in the darkness promised her a chance to right the staggering wrongs of her past, but she never anticipated the true cost. Now, with powers she can barely control, she's uncovering secrets that threaten everything she thought she knew. As she delves deeper into the mystery, the lines between friend and foe blur. The bond between her and the guys grows stronger, and together, they're determined to uncover the truth and protect the innocent.

─── 。゚: THOUGHTS*. .*:☆゚. ───

[Alister]

“You were someone I trusted, Alister. I thought you were my friend. But this whole time, you were just waiting for the right moment to claim me as your own. W-why?

“Don’t touch me!

Evelyn is conflicted and frustrated 😩 She’s married to Alister, but it was never her choice it was decided by her parents, and now she feels like she has no control over her own life. The fact that Alister has so much power over her, even though she never gave it to him, is like this constant source of frustration. She knows she cares for him, and she’s definitely down bad, but she refuses to let him think that just because they’re married, everything is suddenly fine between them. It’s not okay with her, and she doesn’t want him to think it is. The tension between what she feels for him and the anger she has about the situation is such a mess.

[Rafe]

“Evelyn, Rafe said gently, his voice laced with sweetness and concern. “I know you’re mad. I’m mad, too. But you need to calm down. Your powers are unstable.

He’s such a gentle baby 😭 Everything about him screams considerate and protective, and it’s honestly so heartwarming. He takes the time to please her and is always gentle with her, never rushing or forcing anything. You can tell he’s such a kindhearted soul, and it’s obvious he’s her actual guardian angel sent to watch over her. But what makes it even more special is that she’s not just an assignment to him. He genuinely cares for Evelyn, not just as his duty, but because he wants to see her happy and well. He’s there for her in every way, making sure she’s taken care of, and all he wants is to make sure she’s okay. His quiet love for her is so pure, and it’s like he would do anything to protect her, even if it means putting his own feelings aside. He’s a true angel sent to her side, and I just want to hug him. 🥺💖

[Lucien]

“Evelyn, Lucien added. “Whatever happened, we are here now.

“Don’t cry, Lucien whispered with a sad expression. “We can fix this. I can fix this.

He really went from being just a helpful presence to full-on protective mode, and I love the shift. At first, he was just there to help her with the potions and try to figure out the magic situation, but then, without even realizing it, he became her literal shield. He stopped distancing himself and started caring for her loudly, even though he’s a professor with that whole power dynamic in play. It didn’t matter to him though Evelyn’s well-being became his priority. His concern for her overshadowed any status or rules, and that’s honestly such a beautiful thing. He was willing to risk it all, just to make sure she was okay. It’s like he realized his duty to her wasn’t just academic or professiona. It makes him even more endearing to me. 💖

[Chad]

“Chad! I gasped out, half-warning, half-pleading.

“Did I—oh crap, sorry! Did that hurt?

“Did you just fucking come? Little witch…fuck, you smell delicious, he said as he nuzzled me from behind.

Puppy boy softie energy to the MAX! 😩 He’s ridiculously down bad for Evelyn, and you can feel how much he’s all in for her. He mated with her just to prove that she’s his and he’s hers it’s so sweet and pure, I can’t handle it. Chad is absolutely adorable; he’s like the embodiment of a big, lovable puppy. It’s impossible not to root for him because he’s just so silly and sweet, and he’s always down for cuddles and making her feel loved. He’s got that adorable, goofy vibe, and it makes him even more lovable. Honestly, he’s the kind of guy you just want to protect and shower with affection because he deserves the world. Babyyyyy, he’s so precious! 💖🐾

[Ryker]

“Ryker, I started, my voice trembling. “Alister is my fated mate. I don’t know what came over me…or my wings, I added under my breath.

“Evelyn, he said gently, “I believe you may have more than one fated mate.

Ryker has made up his mind, and he’s all in. 😤 He might not have the golden retriever energy of Chad, or the gentle nature of Rafe, or even the possessiveness of Alister, but Ryker is going to love her fiercely and hard. He’s the type who will go to the ends of the earth for her, and he doesn’t care about the details like sharing her with the others as long as he gets to have her too. His love is intense, and while it might look different from the others, it’s just as deep, maybe even deeper. He’s the kind of guy who doesn’t do things halfway, and when he decides he wants her, it’s all or nothing. And I’m here for it. 💥

─── 。゚: OVERALL*. .*:☆゚. ───

I’ve reached that point where I’m just not invested. I thought I’d care more, but the plot and characters just aren’t doing it for me. Some of them are lovable, but honestly, they feel kind of bland and lack the depth I was hoping for. I’m just not feeling the connection like I should, and it’s hard to keep going when the story doesn’t grab me. It’s okay though I’m not going to force myself to stick with it if I’m not into it anymore.

Fated for Starfall

What a way to wake up. I ate this for every meal today. Delicious.

FMC
Evelyn - can be childish and petulant at times (on brand for how I see her character). But definitely seeing growth and maturation this book. She can be feisty as hell and I love seeing her strength grow.

MMCs
Alistair - You beautiful asshole. Yes, I will marry you.

Rafe - stare at me all day long you godly man. And fly me around too. The sweetest guy - you know he’d never forget an anniversary

Lucien - the quiet and protective one. Giving daddy vibes - but needs a swift kick. Anyone got a love potion?

Ryker - has a foreboding calm with big D energy. Love it. His aggressive and possessive nature does many things. For me, personally. Chapter 23 - Oh. My. God. I would die for him.

Chad - our little puppy has been hiding a hellish secret and I’m 100% here for it. He’s such a powerful character but a total sweetheart.

4.5 stars from me

Sometimes things happened that were awfully convenient and required a suspension of disbelief. This I believe is based on the fact the book is on the shorter side and these things are necessary to stop the plot from becoming too convoluted. This is a work of fiction after all.

I need to say however, I absolutely devoured this book and struggled to put it down. Looking forward to a reread eventually. There could have been more fleshed out - I just need more!

I had so much fun reading this. Absolute personal preference here (so not a reflection of rating given) but imma need more smut please. Or maybe a follow up novel that’s purely spice? A girl can dream.

Ryker and Chad forever.

Holy Guacamole!

Fated for Starfall is the second book in this magic filled RH. Book two was everything you want in the next book in a series. Action, good friends, protective mates, and a possible redemption. Although I'm still not sure about if the person can be redeemed or if they are just really good at playing the game.

Evelyn is still in shock from losing her friend, Theo. And now she finds herself married to Alister through his bite. She is mad and upset, but she needs to figure out what Morgana is really up to. Evelyn won't lose anyone else. Oh...and she needs to learn how to control her new powers. Starting with her fire magic and her new wings.

Unlocking her heritage reveals an unbalance has taken place. One, that Evelyn is going to have to take on. She needs to figure out who her true enemy is because the very essence of magic is at risk. No more witches, no more shifters, no more vampires, no magic at all. It's a good thing Evelyn has her guys to support her. And with that cliffhanger at the end, I'm not sure if they'll be enough. I can't wait for the third book to come out!

Another amazing read by JC Dark! There is no way you are putting this one down either! Book 2 starts off with a bang! Starting where we were left hanging from book one, we get to see Eve's full power and understand why she was originally bound!

The character arcs in this book are absolutely perfect! Getting to see how each guy feels towards Eve and how each relationship blossoms! The growth of affection left me melting!!! The slow burn makes your crave for more 😍

This book brought twists and turns that were fully unexpected, ending us off with a cliffhanger of note!!! Can't wait for book 3!!! I NEED to know what happens!!!!!

I found the first book of Acanium Academy on my FY page on TikTok and devoured it within a day. I was lucky enough to put my hands on an ARC and, once again, read it within a day once I received the book. Even if I received an ARC, it didn't stop me from re-reading it through KU because it is important to me to support the author's work. Arcanium is a paranormal RH who has its own world. Each character has a unique personality, and I think character development is one of the book's strengths. If you want a book that will take you on an adventure and who will make you fall in love five times over, this book is for you.

5 star ARC read ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

What a book!

I had to read this as soon as I could, the cliffhanger at the end of book 1 really left me on edge.

This was such a great follow on and I loved everything about it. Evelyn continues to be one of my favourite FMCs ever. I love how strong she is and her extra abilities make her even cooler.

The plot was good and I am excited to see what happens in the next book, I cannot wait!

A 5 star read that I would reccomend to anyone.

ARC received for honest review.

Arcanum Academy

Excellent reincarnation revenge story. Academy, RH, magic, shifters, fated mates, battle of gods fought by their proxies. I'm loving this story. It is smoothly written with few editorial glitches. Very slow burn with fated mates. Our innocent but powerful heroine has her bound magic unlocked in a surprising fashion. This time around she has allies and knowledge to help her defeat the evil ones. Cliffhanger, but I'm not too worried about it. Easy and exciting entertainment.

This book continues right where the first left off. You learn more about why she came back and watch her relationship develop with her men. The cliff hanger at the end left me with more questions as well as anxiety! Cant wait for book 3. If you enjoy slow burns, sassy fmc's, alpha males, broody males, sweet males, and golden retriever energy males that do anything for their women, then i say you should pick the series up and start reading!

The story had potential, but honestly, it all happens so fast and everything is so easy for the FMC.
I need mysteries to be solved in such a way that answers are not simply given by the goddess who just happens to tell the main character what the problem is. Oh I don't know X...well, then I have a vision because of course I have every imaginable power there is.
Come on! This is the kind of story my 9yo tells me all the time!!

Edit to say I am amazed at how arc reviews are so unreliable. Arc's are supposed to be realistic and I don't see this book having more than 3 stars being absolutely generous.

WOW!! Just wow. If you loved book 1 and are running to book 2, just know it will NOT disappoint. JC Dark does a wonderful job continuing the story with plenty of new developments for our favorite characters. Tension builds, emotions are high, and so many questions are answered AND left unanswered. Buckle up because you’re in for a treat with the continuation of this story. I really enjoyed the character growth between the all the main characters and can’t wait for book 3!!

I love this series. Book one lays the foundation for this second installment. This is a slow burn RH with really great guys. This books picks up directly after book one where we found out what Alistair is to Evelyn.

Do to the past trauma and current events we see Evelyn grow up in this book and become more mature. We also see the relationships between Evelyn and the guys grow. I love that the relationship between the guys is non existent before they meet Evelyn (except for Chad and Ryker obv) and find a balance in their friendship aswel.

My opinion on the boys:
* Lucien 🤓: The quiet and smart one. Love him to pieces but please remove that stick up your @ss ☺️ so we can get moving!!
* Ryker 🥰 : My fav! The silent, broody and strong one. In this book he became my absolute fave. 🍆
* Chad 🐶: Our puppy, he is so cute, loyal and has super cute banter with Evelyn. He would be an perfect partner!
* Rafe 😇: The sweet and supportive one. He takes in everyone's feelings but I think he is sometimes to nice. He needs to not forget his own feelings and needs!
* Alistair 🧛🏻: He is the strong support and the hart of the group. Wouldn't have thought that in the first book. Marry me please!

The book is an overall 4.5/5 read for me. I loved it and binge read it. JC Dark has a really great writing style that pulls you in. The multiple POVs are great and you get a feeling of al the different perspectives.

Spice rating: 🌶️🌶️

A Blackened Bond is Better than this

My first 1 star review. I enjoyed the plot line at the start but the more I read the more I was disappointed in the pacing, the writing, the characters pretty much everything. I read “time blurred by way too many times for only a few weeks to have passed in book time. The writing is extremely lackluster and if I’m totally honest it seems like it was written by AI. There’s no feeling in anything I read it’s all very sterile and muted and extremely barren. There’s been absolutely 0 real connections made between characters but they’re already getting hot and heavy? I get it they’re fated mates but we don’t get any growth between them and definitely no passion. I would recommend reading A blackened bond over this any day.

It's impossible not to compare this series to The Blackened Blade, since both involve time-travel "do-overs", witches, and magical academies. Both FMCs remember betrayals that occurred in the former timeline while their enemies do not. TBB got a lot of social media hype while this one flew mostly under the radar.

I know this book/series should stand on its own merits, but having finished Fated for Starfall a couple days after reading The Blackened Bond, it's the differences that made me like and appreciate this one so much more.

FMC: The FMC in TBB seems almost apathetic about changing the past, preferring long and repetitive inner monologues to action. By contrast, Evelyn relentlessly pursues her survival, leaving nothing to chance. She trains her body with fists and swords, pursues knowledge by any means, practices her spell craft, and builds relationships - both platonic and romantic. She has several female friends and never pretends to be "not like other girls". She COMMUNICATES with her guys, filling them in about her past as well as each new discovery. She's quick to recognize that if her enemies were able to use compulsion on one person, they're likely to have used it on others, and even offers compassion to Lia, her former friend, turned enemy, when she notices her physical condition.

Plot Book two of TBB felt entirely like filler content in order to stretch out the series. In comparison, a ton of plot progress occurred in Fated for Starfall. We're given answers to important questions, like how and why Evelyn was sent back in time, what kind of deal her parents made with Alister, how they died, why Evelyn's powers have multiplied in both strength and function. We also learn the history behind why Morgana is targeting Evelyn. We learn that Team Evil is more diverse than originally expected and what their goals are. Evelyn continued to grow as a witch and a fighter. The harem has come together for all intents and purposes. Even with one member reluctant to let things turn romantic, he's still all-in as far as loyalty. So much was answered or resolved that I
started to believe this was coming together to be a duology. Until the cliffhanger.

The Guys
Usually, I would rank the guys from favorite to least, but honestly it's impossible with these five. There's no clear standout, and I've mentally labeled each of them my fave at some point, only to pick another in the next scene. I'll just go with oldest to youngest.
1. Allister - at times he felt generic, but I loved how delighted he was to finally have a family (as unconventional as it was). I love how he's as eager to spoil the other guys as he is for Evelyn.
2. Lucian - Oh how I love the grumpy holdout. I've never liked Professor/Student, so I'm glad he's resisting the pull for now. I hope the author holds out until she's closer to eighteen for the sake of professionalism.
3. Rafe - The shy, inexperienced guy will always steal my heart. I love how soft he is, despite being trained for battle.
4. Ryker - The other grumpy one. I can't put my finger on why, but I always want to see more of him.
5. Chad - I'm surprised by how much I like him. I mean his name is Chad. And I tend to find this character type obnoxious in an RH situation. But he somehow makes me smile every time he's onscreen. I love his enthusiasm and the fun he brings to the situation.

If I had any complaint about this book it would be that the spice is very lackluster. You can tell the author is uncomfortable writing it, but included it because it's expected of the genre. It ends up feeling hurried and perfunctory, with no real connection between the characters.

This was bad, on so many level. It made me so angry and it felt so stupid at time.

First of all, the character are flat. Some one's review wrote that it felt like snow white and the dwarf, with the character personality, like sporty, happy, grumphy and so on. And ones i read that, i could see it. ML all had one personality, and the author really didnt let them have move then that one personality and emotion. F.x the proffessor, he is grumphy and angry through it all, and you never quit get to understand or find out why, it is never completly explained, it is very vague, like we could think it is because of the age different, but it also seems like that is just the mood he was born with, because he was like this before he meet the FL.

FL, she really piss me off, she was so stupid at time, that i question if she had a brain, and that does sound harsh, but the author kept writing stuff like "she is so strong", but i couldnt see any of that strengh, yes she was physical strong, and had extrem powerful magic now, but her brain? her thought? She was supposed to give second life, she gave barely one life experiment, she felt so young, and naive, and at time made me think "what was the reason for giving her a second life, if she is not smarter about it?". Because what do you mean, that the people who low key stole your magic and did nothing to save you, that you want to be their friends so they dont make the same mistake? WHat is that about? Stockholm syndrom, that is what is sound like, and yes it can be explain away with the fact that some of them was manipulatet with magic, so they were not aware of their own action, but FL still had faith on some questionable people, and we as the reader don't get a explaintion on why she trusted in the best of these people. It was giving stupid, and like she was on her way to her 3rd life rebirth.

The AGE????? How old is she, because in book 1, she was 17, and in book 2, they never talk about a birthday, yet she is with a thousand old vampire, who has secretly been waiting for her, his whole life, and on the low dating the professor, who is also a adult, and then we have the angel who i felt was on the same age as the professor. SO around 3 older men, that is playing with a 17 year girl. Nothing happen until the end, but even when something happen, i was thinking, but how old is she? WHEN did she turn 18? Did she turn 18? I really hope i misunderstood something, because that was not good.

The good thing, made no sense. IT was so random and weird. That all of suddenly, a good is explaining this to her, and send her back, and that is about that? and then i could guess that obvious the bad team, they were probably in connect with a god to, so why couldn't the people do that guessing? I don't understand why she is involve in a battle between god, and what is all of that for? It seems messy and weird, and makes no sense. SO a god

I can’t wait till the 28th :( what is happening? Where’s Evelyn and Alister? What’s happened to everyone’s powers?

Lucien being the most grumpiest of them all, and not having powers on his side, but he did have his potions and got lucky. When anyone tried to save him though 😂 he was not having it when he was picked up. But when he finally realised Evelyn was his mate I screamed! Can’t wait to see the love between these two.

Ryker the grumpy, broody dragon, I love this man. The possessiveness, the kisses, everything 😍 but when he realised his dad killed his mum, my heart broke for him.

Chad the golden retriever puppy, omg he was the best too. Always being there, and always smiling, talking and joking! And when he claimed her omg..what a dream.

Rafe the gentle, shy Angel. I love Rafe and how gentle his with Evelyn and how sweet he is. When he thought he didn’t fit in broke my heart. We love you Rafe!

Alister the Vampire, now I’m a sucker for vampires so Alister has always had my heart, I love how patient, protective and gentle he try’s to be with Evelyn.

Now the girl herself - Evelyn, is badass and so bloody powerful! I love it. But this girl needs a break with her 5 mates and just relax.. because this girl has been through so much, bless her heart.

I think one thing that lets this series down is it was wrote like too fast. I think there could’ve been more detail to everything. But I loved it no matter what and can’t wait for book 3!
