Wilde Contracts #3

Save The Vampire

Rate this book
You promised you could always find me

Zane’s death lingers like a bad dream. I’ve been searching for months, but I can’t find him in the void. The jerk vampire died on me just as things were getting nice and complicated between us.

Meanwhile, true nightmares have been terrorizing the city. Death magic is ripping tears in reality, destroying my home, and threatening to swallow the world in darkness. If my necromancy powers hadn’t been stolen by an overly ambitious vitamin villain, I’d be able to tackle the void tears with my classic Wilde flair.

That is, if I could focus on saving the city from ruin.

I’m tangled up in hurt and heartache. Not just for my lost vampire, but for the protective and seductive incubus waiting in the wings.

With the city on the verge of chaos, my heart in shambles, and my powers stolen, I have to somehow keep my world from spiraling out of control.

But first? I’m saving my vampire.

Save the Vampire is the last book in the trilogy that contains intrusive death, fuzzy feelings about vampires, insane pining for an incubus, perfectly timed F bombs and a vaguely magical fish named Kevin.

About the author

Maz Maddox

35books665followers
Maz Maddox is the odd lovechild between a unicorn, dinosaur and vampire. The outcome is a human-like figure who inherited aspects of all three. She is a champion of logic and science, adores beauty and whimsy, and has a slight streak of darkness that dances the line of genius and insanity.

Residing in the wild land of cowboy boots and Shiner beer, Maz spends her time with her two dogs and a husband who she adores, and is constantly demanding that science gives her a pocket sized triceratops. The efforts of these demands have yet to be fulfilled.

When she’s not pining over the lack of chihuahua sized ornithischia, she’s a writer who loves crafting adventures tales sprinkled with humor, a hefty helping of romance, and topped with a happy ending.

First of all, I’d like to express how happy I am that no one died while ‘holding the door but the resulting power was wicked. And two, MS MADDOX PLEASE WRITE TWO MORE NOVELLAS IN THIS UNIVERSE FOR MY FAVORITE COUPLE PLUS AUSTIN AND MARTHAS🙏 THANK YOU.

Confession time: I never really liked Sias (rich daddy incubus) nor Dallas (human badass hunter) and didn’t much care for their relationship, they were okay individually but too horny for my taste; every scene of them starts and I’ll be rolling my eyes and speed read it. I don’t care if they’re everyone’s favorite🙄 I was worried going into this book that they’d be all over each other, even with the ’Zane situation going on BUT I appreciate how it was handled and I shouldn’t have doubted Queen Maz Maddox! No matter the species of her characters, their reactions to most situations are relatable. AND SIAS WAS A GREAT CHARACTER WHEN WE FINALLY GOT MORE OF HIM OUTSIDE OF THE BEDROOM. I judged him harshly because of his libido.

Now when Zane came into the picture? wow👏 he is the best👏 my favorite character 👏 whenever the trio are stalking bad guys during yoga, fighting together for their lives, rescuing each other, being there, making jokes, teasing and flirting AND ALL THE DAMNED BANTER.. I loved them more and needed a lot of them just hanging out together having fun in each other’s company.

What annoyed me about this book, was the story telling style. At times, it breaks the fourth wall and it’s Dallas asking me to ‘get what he’s saying or to ‘remember the thing that happened before? and I hate that to my core.

World building and side characters continues to be amazing as always. St Athesall where this takes place and the magic system is intricately described from the beginning and we’re getting a deeper dive into ‘the void where Dallas used to dip his toes in when he became a necromancer. Add to that a subplot of Dallas losing his powers, struggling to get them back and developing them was a nice touch!!!! And the side characters of people who mostly dislike the MC but come to help begrudgingly are all great. Like crime bosses he ‘home wrecked, old family/army/cult he betrayed, police contacts who got blackmailed into favors, techies who tolerate him for money, etc. I hope this won’t be the last time we hear from these guys! As for my favorite couple, Barns & Funus, I LOVED THEIR HEA AND NEED THEIR ADVENTURE NOVEL PLEASE. But this scene had me tearing up 💔:
“What cruel fate is it, to finally live long enough to find someone to care for, only to be unable to hold their hand? Share their favorite foods? Experience the warmth of the sun together? How is it that my heart breaks even when I don’t possess one anymore?

This rating is pretty heavily based on vibes I’m not going to lie. This book is not a work of literary genius but I feel like if you’ve read any of Maz Maddox’s books you know the sort of ridiculous humor and shenanigans you are in for, and it either works for you or it’s doesn’t. I’ll be honest, I read book 2 when it was released a few months ago and had to go back and reread the tail end of it cause I had forgotten a bunch of the details, so I would potentially encourage a reread/skim read if you’re like me and your main take away from book 2 was your heart being torn out of your chest.

I not going to go into too many spoilers about the main storyline itself but I am going to talk a bit about spoilers in the relationships cause I was right about it all along AND I AM SO PLEASED ABOUT IT AND WANT TO TALK ABOUT IT. So here’s your warning if you want to stop reading.

The first half of this was so emotionally heavy for ✨reasons✨and I did wonder how it was all going to come together and still address the main storyline in what is a relatively short book for everything that has to be resolved (I love me some safe angst cause you know it’ll all work out). But for the dynamic and tension between Dallas, Sias and Zane to finally culminate and become the sort of MMM poly dynamic that I really enjoy was so satisfying (that dynamic being one where everyone comes together openly, shares deep emotional bonds together, bring out the best in each other and all want to make kissy faces at each other while being sassy and snarky). I truly howled with laughter though that considering this book was pretty light on for spicy scenes the fact that one of them was literally a double penetration scene was WILD 😂🥵😂.

I love the story lines between Barnaby and Funus as well as Austin and Marthas (I am going to patiently wait for a stand alone spin off with Austin and Marthas ngl cause magical cop/ imp mob boss would slap).

While I enjoyed the ending and found it to be completely satisfying way to finish up the trilogy it did kind of feel just rushed enough that I had started to wonder if there was going to be a fourth book. It might be selfish of me but I think I would have just liked a bit more time between all the characters to breathe cause I enjoyed their banter and interactions so much.

This was a completely ridiculous but very fun end to this trilogy and I enjoyed these ridiculous characters and this world a lot ❤️

Thank you to GRR for the opportunity to read and review this ARC.

“I will help you rip the void open to get Zane back in order to make you happy. I will spit in the face of gods and would topple an empire for you.

Save the Vampire was a great ending to a super fun series. This caught me in a particularly emotional mood so I was crying more than anything, but I still really enjoyed it.

Was I stupid enough to believe, even for a heartbeat of time, that this would somehow all work out in my favor? That I could be lucky enough to be helplessly tied together with the only two people I’d ever wanted? A damn incubus and a vampire of all things?

Luckily, it did all work out for these three. I was worried there for a sec.
I loved the mix of banter and fun moments, the emotional heart-wrenching scenes, the intense action and fight scenes.
Personally I would’ve liked there to be just a pinch more romance, but other than that this series was wild and fun.

“I want to feed on you while I touch you, Zane whispered, running a knuckle up the outline of my cock. “Oh damn, I said in a rush. “That might actually kill me. “You’d survive, the cheeky vampire promised. “Barely.

Like, damnnnn. I need more of that. On my personal chili pepper scale, the spice level was pretty low. Which is such a shame, ‘cause the tease of incubus and vamp fun times was so yummy and I kind of want a fourth book just of them fucking.

Awesome ending to a fun series, and I’m looking forward to whatever Maz Maddox comes out with next.

“Win, lose, life or death; we are all tangled together now. There is no untying the threads.

Save The Vampire is the third and final book in the Wilde Contracts series. This book is not a standalone and the series should be read in order. We are back with Dallas, Zane, and Sias for the final book. I hate having to say goodbye to these people because I fell in love with them. I love the pet fish too. The last book in the series tore me up and this one put me back together. It was great seeing Sias take care of Dallas while he tries to get Zane back because it shows how much he cares. I just can't say how much I loved this whole series. I would definitely recommend this book and series as 5 star reads and I intend to binge read them again.

This series truly does just get better. That is so rare, and I don't think that has really happened in any series I have read in the past. The characters are fun, and the story is interesting. I loved seeing how all the different relationships grew and evolved in this one. I really liked how Maz addresses Dallas' struggles with opening up and talking about his emotions. That was so relatable. Where the story ends up was done really well. I loved the journey. This trilogy is a ridiculous adventure, and I absolutely loved it. It's hard to go into too much detail because *spoilers* (Steal The Key ended on a serious cliffhanger after all). If you want a fun read that is heavy on plot, has a crazy amount of ridiculousness, and eventually has a nice sprinkle of romance, this series is worth checking out. And it just gets better.

I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.

Save the Vampire is a wickedly fun rollercoaster of suspense, romance, and supernatural shenanigans. Maz Maddox serves up a tale that’s equal parts pulse-pounding action and laugh-out-loud banter, with just enough heat to make you want more.

The true highlight? The triad of Dallas, Sias, and Zane, who don’t just share page space—they absolutely own it. In too many MMM setups (same goes for MMF), one character feels like set dressing, but Maddox balances these three with precision. Their chemistry crackles, and their playful back-and-forth makes you root for the delicious threesome!

The plot itself is action-packed, a relentless dash that kept me flipping pages. While there were moments where the pacing felt a tad stretched—mostly because I was dying to get back to Zane—it mostly held up. And then, just when you’re deeply invested, the story wraps a bit too suddenly, like leaving a party before it’s really over. But Maddox has a knack for hinting, and I wouldn’t be surprised if we see sequels for Barnaby and Funus, or maybe Austin and Marthas.

If there’s one thing I’d ask for, it’s a bit more romance. With all that stellar chemistry, a few more intimate moments wouldn’t hurt!

I've been waiting on Tenterhooks for this book, because I needed my sweet snarky Dallas (okay, he's less sweet and all snark) to get his mens...
I don't want to spoil the plot, but this book was well worth the wait...
If you haven't started the series yet, go get Book 1!

Exciting and magical

This was an excellent series. I could NOT put it down. I loved reading the connection Dallas had with Sias and Zane. The emotions for the first half this book had my tears flowing. Sias is a complicated incubus, that has many secrets and sexy traits.
I love an excellent PNR, with excellent world building, and characters that you simply adore. This book has it all

I am simply in awe with Maz Maddox's writing. This was such a great end to the trilogy.

This book picks up with Dallas just absolutely destroyed by losing Zane. He is living with Sias and spending most of his time working with Funus to try to reconnect with the void to get Zane back, even though he has been severed from his necromancy powers.

Dallas as a character grew so much over the course of this series. He was a self destructive, snarky bomb waiting to go off at the beginning of the first book and while he definitely kept his snark, this series really saw him reckon with his past and face the things that were keeping him from truly connecting with others.

It was amazing to see the way that the people around Dallas loved him and I really liked the way that Maddox had that become more overt over the course of the book. It was always clear to the reader that those around him truly cared for Dallas, but since he hadn't accepted that, the writing did a fantastic job at letting us see it more. We were truly seeing the world through Dallas's eyes.

I also loved all of the characters that could have been one off characters that came back in this book. One, it made the world much more realistic and it also solidified the care that others have for Dallas, not just the main characters, but others.

Maddox continues to solidify herself as one of my favorite authors. They write such expansive worlds and every piece of them is so well crafted, as are the characters. I can't wait to see what comes next.

Despite months spent searching for Zane in the void, the vampire’s death lingers like a bad dream for Dallas, weighing him down with grief and despair. Meanwhile, death magic is tearing through the fabric of reality, allowing living nightmares to terrorise the city and leaving wounds that threaten to destroy their home and swallow the world in darkness. Tangled up with hurt and heartache for both his lost vampire and the protective, seductive incubus waiting in the wings and his necromancy powers gone, Dallas feels helpless. Yet Dallas knows that with the city on the verge of chaos, he must somehow keep his world from spiraling out of control. But first, he’ll save his vampire—no matter what it takes.

Packed with adventure, humour, angst, and a slow-burn heartfelt romance, the final book of the Wilde Contracts series, Save the Vampire, is an excellent end to a fantastic trilogy that was positively wild (heh) from start to finish! I treasured each of the three MMCs—Dallas, Zane, and Sias—and their growth as individuals and lovers. Dallas emotional journey was especially poignant, as he learned to open up and accept the love of those around him. Seeing Dallas friendship with Barnaby strengthen and flourish alongside the romance between Dallas, Zane, and Sias was an utterly enriching experience. Whilst Dallas—my tornado of vibrant chaos–is especially dear to me, these three men have all nestled into my heart alongside other characters who have guided me to and helped me heal parts of myself in unexpected ways.

4.25/5 This is another wild ride that deals with the fallout from the previous book. So we’re still dealing with a fair bit of trauma through much of this, but I got to see a relationship between Sias and Dallas that I liked more than in the previous books; Sias is totally respectful of Dallas’s feelings and what else is going on in his life, and he takes care of Dallas because he cares about him. Actions definitely have consequences in this world, but this helps solidify the depth of Dallas’s feelings for me as a reader. (He’s still impulsive, he doesn’t always make smart decisions, but the level of feelings and care he has are more apparent than ever.)

I definitely liked it more when Dallas, Zane, and Sias are all together and exploring what that can mean for them. They all take care of one another (and do what needs to be done as they care for and protect one another, whoosh), and that helps underpin this book for me a lot.

There’s a lot going on here with people getting in the way of Dallas’s goal to save the day (and some surprising allies too). I enjoyed when everyone was working together, the trippy void stuff, and Funus and Barnaby (didn’t see that coming, loved it!) The ongoing quirky pets made me laugh.

I really hope that everyone gets a restful vacation and gets to take a real break, lol. They’ve definitely earned it!

I would like to thank GRR for the opportunity to read and review this ARC.

Super fun romp with the wildest Wilde, and ofc the most awesome gang, tapping into the very creepy, thrall-filled, monstery void to save...well, lots of stuff! a sexy vamp...normies from spine-chilling bitey creatures...the goddess of death. Yk, run of the mill heroic questy things!

Also, I loved all the snarky additions to cast in this installment! Everyone and everything was just so entertaining and high energy and i really had a great time with this! But fr Marthas and Austin were a riot and i could not get enough of them!

And i'm so happy the throuple got it going on!! Sias and Zane turned up the heat and made me blush my gawd! Ngl i'm just really glad there was intimacy and cuddles, and not just the steam team making the dream work! Dallas really gets the love he deserves, and i'm glad the uncertainty in the installment before transformed into a deep and abiding connection that was pretty transcendent!

Ahhhh but my precious babe Barns and Funus are my forever baes! They made me feel all warm and lovely with the way they loved on each other throughout the narrative and their HEA made me all fluttery inside! i loved them so much!

Great ending to a trilogy that was a ton of exciting, sexy fun, and i can't wait for whatever else Maddox releases in the future because i'm sure it'll be awesome!

**A series to be read in order**
I can't believe we've come to the end of Wilde Contracts! It has been quite the ride along with Dallas, Zane, and Sias, along with Barnaby and then a whole host of additions, both good and bad.
Dallas has gone through quite the change since we first met him and now he's grieving the loss of his Thrall, and now partner, Zane, who until very recently, he couldn't stand.
Those two, along with Sias, make for quite the triad and it is hugely entertaining reading them together, whether it's trying to save the world, getting up close and personal, or just hanging out in Sias's mansion. They've all come a long way and the overall series arc has developed into this massive story that could basically bring around the end of the world, as all good adventure stories do. But, it's not just them fighting for it. They have a lot of people on their side, one or two surprisingly so, considering the run-ins they've had in the past.
This is a fantastic story, so well told, and brought to a very satisfying conclusion in all aspects. I cannot recommend it enough and hope that we check in with Dallas, Zane, and Sias, and maybe even Barnaby and Funus, in the future.
I received an ARC and am happily giving a review.

I have loved this trilogy since the very beginning. Dallas is one of my all-time favorite characters. This book is my favorite in the trilogy. I am sad to say goodbye to Dallas, Zane, and Sias, but this ending was everything and more!

The way Find the Key ended ripped my heart out, and Save the Vampire kept the hits coming from the very beginning. Dallas's devotion to Zane and finally seeing the depth of Sias's feelings for Dallas was both heartwarming and heartbreaking at the same time. Dallas's trust that Zane would find him if he only tried hard enough to go into the void was unshakeable. I loved that Sias gave him the space he needed backed by unwavering support.

The worldbuilding, character development, plot development, romance, spice...all of it was so well done! I can't say enough about Maz's writing style and their way of weaving together a story. I was invested in every character and every aspect of the plot. The way it all came together was exciting and emotional, but full of Dallas's signature humor as well. This trilogy is one that I will revisit again and again.

Just like the last book, this is one wild ride. Dallas is lost emotionally without his vampire, Zane, and is seeking a way to retrieve him from the void. Meanwhile, Dallas and Sias must deal with the efforts of Florence (I was calling her EvilFlo) to harness the power of the scythe.

It all comes together to form one hell of a capper to an incredibly imaginative trilogy. Maddox has written a gloriously over the top urban fantasy with some fun and fascinating characters in Dallas, Sias, and Zane. And the supporting characters are no slouches, either, particularly Barnaby, Funus, and Austin. It's quite the successful tightrope walk that Maddox has accomplished here with a nice balance of thrills and her trademark snarky humor. Plus, the added bonus- the slow burn romance turns into quite the inferno here, and boy, is it worth it.

If you're at all interested in urban fantasy I highly urge you to read this book. It may sound a bit weird (well, we are talking Maddox) but in the author's capable hands this book ends up being a grand tale of adventure with bits of romance, thrills, and tragedy.

I absolutely love this chaotic found family!!! And though I’m sad to say goodbye, the conclusion to this addictive trilogy is stunning in all the best ways.

“I don’t know how you manage to make me want to punch you and kiss you at the same time.
“That’s what I aim for: erotically aggravating.

We’re treated to all the snarky Dallas moments we could ever want, lots of bubbles by Kevin, fun with the patient Barnaby, some reluctant but interesting allies, many tasty, tasty treats from our heroes (so freaking hot!), and best of all, our hearts that were mercilessly broken are forever healed. That’s not to say there aren’t twists and turns in store, it is Dallas after all, and he never does anything the easy way. But one thing is for sure, this conclusion will keep you glued to the pages, mend all that was shattered before, and leave you with a huge smile and the swooniest of feels.

Honestly this series just gets better and better. I LOVED this even more than book 2!

Dallas has lost his Thrall. He and Sias are still not back where they were and Dallas is heartbroken and focused on nothing more than being able to get Zane back. There's a rogue necromancer armed with Dallas's sword, vampires with built in tech and a return of the Saint's Army and Dallas's childhood friend Austin.

This didn't necessarily go everywhere I thought it would but it certainly went everywhere I wanted it to.🥵

Dallas and Sias's relationship deepening, truths being revealed, Barnaby and Funus (Gah - those two were just the cutest 😂) and Dallas's troubled relationship with his past all leading to the perfect conclusion to this tale.

I loved the explanations of how the tech and magic came together. The old enemies, new friends and adorable new relationships made this an absolute 5 for me!

Thank the Gods I didn't have to wait for the release of this one too long because it was AMAZING!!

Dallas's is a walking mess at the beginning of the series but in this one we're seeing how much he grew, the relationships get tighter, and the sass and action barely stops. I loved every page of this and, if I'm satisfied by the ending, I'm a bit sad to leave this world and characters.

Plus, if in book 1 the slow burn was just starting to thaw, in this one the romance is burning off the pages. It's both sweet and so very steamy.

The climax was well worth the journey to get there and the HEA is glorious. Although the epilogue is a tidbit too sweet for me but that's on me. It rounded up the whole story in a nice bow.

If you read book 2 and that cliffhanger, I don't think I need to convince you to jump into this one, but in case you need a push : do it. Read it. It's so worth it.

An advanced copy was provided to me but all opinions are my own.

While I've loved this series, I have to admit that this installment was my least favorite of the 3 books.

The action in the series has always been on-point, but much less so in regards to the romance, at least for me.

I really liked how Austin finally came back into his "brother" Dallas' life again, but this time around, the story had much less Kevin than I was hoping. Yes, Kevin is just a fish, but OMMFG, he is the *bestest* fish ever. heh

Don't get me wrong, the book was still extremely entertaining, just not my absolute favorite of the series.

Literally one of the best book series I have ever read!!! It is hard for me to get through series cause sometimes they lose momentum or take to fast a turn that causes me to completely fly out and move on from. But this series I literally couldn’t stop reading. The development of the connection between the characters, the slow but amazing build up of the history of the main character and the fun and witty dialogue had me in love with the books and I honestly hate how fast I read them but am so happy to have finished this series!! Literally everything I could ever want in a book is in these 3!! Adventure, dark magic, assassins, vampires, a polyamorous relationship, and the entertaining and complex personalities of all the characters as well as intense and Emily connected plot!! Just very well done!!

Oh my God, this book. It had everything—action, humor, and a jaw-dropping plot! Maz was absolutely feeding us.
Seeing the development of Sias, Dallas, and Zane’s relationship over the first two books and watching it all come together in this one? Perfection. Every time Sias got overprotective of Dallas—and Zane—it just showed how deeply he cared for both of them. But Dallas finally getting his dream of having both his incubus and his vampire in an actual relationship? Easily one of my favorite parts. After everything he went through, he DESERVED that happiness. I just KNEW the chemistry between the three of them would be off the charts (and I loved being right). I devoured every character interaction, and the development some characters went through was executed perfectly.
Sure, they all had their iconic idiotic moments, but I loved them all the same.

I absofreakinglutely loved it and all is well now (mostly)

I have been (im)patiently waiting for this one to come out since finishing book two and having my heart ripped out through my spleen. I said what I said. I couldn’t go through the organ thing again so I didn’t re-read it prior to reading this, so some things were a little fuzzy plot-wise. I made do. At some point in the future I’ll do a binge read of the whole series but not right now.

Speaking of that though, I highly recommend binge-reading the series in order. You won’t regret it.

I really wanna see this made into a movie. Anime of course.

Highly recommend.

[I received a digital arc for an honest review]

Save the Vampire by Maz Maddox is the final book in the Wilde Contract series. Dallas and Sias are stopping at nothing to bring Zane back with the help of their chaotic crew of misfits. But with the world ripping apart in front of his eyes, Dallas is forced to face his fears and put selfishness aside to save everyone even if that means losing more of himself. This book showed even more emotional growth by Dallas and the relationships he’s been nurturing are finally solidifying. You fall in love with each side character even more as they are fleshed out. Maddox managed to draw this series to an epic conclusion with Dallas Wilde at the helm.

4 stars for Dallas Wilde taking on the world to save it.

Kevin saves the day (sort of)

I really think Kevin has to be the best pet anyone ever had and he shines in this book about how he saves the day (or at least the cat)! Oh yeah there are other characters in this latest book by Maz Maddox but Kevin is the star for me. He is a shining example of how well Wilde can train fish. Although obviously Kevin didn’t need much training.
If you care about the wider story there is lots about a lost vampire, tears in reality, an incubus, three guy’s trying to work things out, a scull that talks and so much more from the wonderfully wacky brain of Ms. Maddox to round out this trilogy.
But Kevin is it for me.
You really need to follow along the whole journey of these books in order or you will be lost as a vampire.

The continuation of the story I had been waiting for, as the last one left me in tears, and I couldn't wait for this one to come out.

Dallas is a mess, Sias is Sias, who is difficult to get a read on at the best of times and Zane is still gone.

The characters are enjoyable and the plot is intriguing, there are fun and sexy shenanigans and I really need a story about Kevin because he is a very capable fish.

I loved the book and at the last 10% I was still hoping the story wouldn't be over with this one.
Dallas is always going to be as lovable as he is annoying and it's his charm.
I hope we get more stories from this universe in the future.

Maz Maddox's Save The Vampire is final book in the Wilde Contracts trilogy. Which is both good, a satisfying ending and bad, there were tears I tell you. Dallas is suitably depressed and depressing as the story begins. But a HEA is going to come. You know it. But with all the twists in Maz Maddox's little story, you don't know in what form the HEA will take. Necromancer Dallas has quite a RL problem, vamp or incubus.
It was a satisfying series finisher. Not too much of the smexy side. Lots and lots of the angsty pining side. Found family, old enemies, new friends, chaos and snark. What more could we want?
I received an advanced copy of this book from GRR and this is my review.

This was 100% absolutely the end of this series that I wanted. Dallas' character arc culminates beautifully in this story. While he's still the sassy, ridiculous, messy man from the previous books, he ends up being absolutely happy and that is truly awesome. Turns out, I didn't need to be Team Zane or Team Sias, which is truly the best outcome. I'd love to learn more about Sias' past still, but I guess a guy has to have some secrets. Barnaby remains an absolutely stalwart and fussy friend, and I was glad to see that he also found love as an ace incubus. Overall, this series was fantastic and I very much recommend it.
