Some Like It Scot

Rate this book
An American travel writer who has never found a place to belong and a reclusive Scot with a surprising secret find a shocking connection when she enters a Highlands manor house that has been turned into a three-week long Edwardian experience.

Katie Campbell has traveled her entire life. As the daughter of an army chaplain, changing homes--or even countries--was commonplace, so when her wild childhood storytelling turned into a lucrative career as a travel writer, she thought she'd found her perfect match. But as she's nearly thirty with no real place to settle down, she's starting to wonder where "home" actually is. Her own family hadn't felt like home since her sister's death left them all limping through life.

When a lengthy project in Scotland promises to not only give her travel fodder for months but also a shot at a coveted editing position, she accepts and is sent to spend three weeks in the newly created Craighill House, a Scottish home redesigned to offer guests an Edwardian experience. But her entrance to Craighill introduces her to a quirky group of characters and a surly Scot who is helping refurbish the magnificent woodwork of the estate house.

As Katie attempts to live "Edwardian," she learns that all that glitters does not a comfortable lifestyle make . . . and surly Scots may turn out to be dashing and creative uncles raising their orphaned nephews. When a few escapades from the Downton era lead Katie on hunts for mermaids and dragons or to a fireside chat with a family who has grown stronger through tragedy, Katie begins to wonder if "home" looks a whole lot like rolling green hills, magnificent braighs, and a few extra "ayes" thrown in for good measure. But can her world-traveling lifestyle fit in with a Scot whose heart is double-knotted to home?

Thank you NetGalley, Pepper Basham, and Thomas Nelson Fiction for granting me access to this book in exchange for an honest review.

WHIT A BRAW READ 💚💚!!! I am overwhelmed with JOY to have found a new favorite author whose words speak straight to my heart!! I went into this book with no idea how much it would mean to me. It became a quiet kind of magic that is gentle, powerful, and unforgettable. I cannot stop thinking about it, and I truly can't recommend it enough!! With unwavering confidence and heartfelt pride, I can say this book has earned its place on my list of favorites for 2025!!

What an utterly delightful and heartwarming Scottish romance! This beautifully written tale had me smiling, swooning, laughing, and even shedding a few tears along the way. The witty banter, the sense of found family, and the presence of a grumpy yet endearing Scot in a kilt made for an unforgettable read.

The story is rich with misadventures of a spirited heroine, tender moments, and swoon-worthy kisses. The inclusion of a delightful boy and his loyal dog 🐶, Wedge, adds an extra layer of charm. The community's women's knitting club offers both comfort and camaraderie, weaving threads of friendship and faith throughout the story.

This novel is a testament to the idea that sometimes, stepping out of one's comfort zone and embracing the unknown can lead to the most profound discoveries. In addition, the story is about facing one's past, understanding that running away doesn't shield the heart, and the healing journey toward finding where the heart truly belongs. It's a story that lingers, like the echo of bagpipes across the glen, leaving the reader both uplifted and yearning for more. It's a perfect blend of humor, emotion, and romance that stays with you long after the last page.

I wholeheartedly recommend this Scottish romance and it deserves all the stars!! I'm eagerly looking forward to exploring more of Basham's captivating tales. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

I never knew I could connect with a character so much! Katie and I (well another Katie), we're kindred spirits. I saw so much of me in her, her love for the Lord, her struggles and her passion for travel and writing. As well as her pun sharing. I couldn't get enough of her story and of course the "hot scot".

Can we talk about him for awhile? Yes lets....immediately fell in love with his brooding 6ft 300ish self, the banter between him and Katie (also can you tell I won't be forgetting this characters name?). The best part of him though was his family, I fell in love with them too, and just wanted to hang out with all of them and have a cuppa.

If you love witty banter, swoon worthy kisses, slow burn romances and lots and lots of miss adventures....then read Some Like It Scot. 6

Once again, Pepper enchants you again with a heartfelt romance filled with a rich setting, witty banter and characters with depth! Set in the breathtaking country of Scotland, we follow travel writer Katie Campbell who embarks on a 3 week Edwardian experience. What begins as a professional journey turns into one of self-discovery, unexpected friendships and an irresistible connection with a BROODING SCOT! Sign. Me. Up!

Katie is a "wee bit lost", having spent her life bouncing from place to place, never really setting anywhere. She deep down wants a feeling of HOME and finds it here. Enter our handsome SCOT -- Graeme -- who is a great, hardworking family man and you have one great relationship that develops between the two. He is gruff, but an endearing, kind man helping raise his nephew after his brother passed away. The layer of grief experienced and explained in this book - is beautiful. Reading Pepper's author's note also added to the story because of her own experience writing this book. But "dinnae fash", Basham's signature humor shines through as Katie navigates the quirks of Edwardian living and the people who make this place feel like home.

The romance between Katie and her Scotsman is a sweet, slow burn that I really enjoyed, filled with many heartfelt and swoon-worthy brogue moments - with a sense of family that makes this story truly special.

Highly recommend this healing story as a love letter to Scotland, family, and the kind of love that doesn't ask you to change but rather to stay.

Thank you to Thomas Nelson for a copy of the eBook and audiobook to honestly read/listen to for review. (I have also preordered the book, so recommend you do too!) All thoughts and opinions are my own.

 Scotland Setting
 Highland Cows
 Clean Romance
 Christian Fiction
 Dual Narration

Okay, Katie is actually living my dream! 😍 She’s a successful travel writer who gets to travel the world while meeting new people and immersing herself in new cultures? Where do I apply?! If you’re here for the Scottish setting, this book definitely has a lot to offer, but unfortunately this was about where my interest dipped.

I know we don’t love reading about how tiny and waif-like an FMC is, but having to read about how curvy and sturdy they are over and over isn’t any better. I was particularly bothered when Katie finally opened up to Graeme about losing her sister, and the first thing she felt the need to mention was that they were nothing alike because her sister was so thin and petite. This direction in the narrative really detracted from the severity of losing her sister in my opinion.

It might be somewhat relatable to lack confidence, but some of her lines really bothered me and his responses left me unsatisfied. She thinks things like “Why would a man like him want to be with me? And at one point she says something along the lines of “You’re not supposed to like me. His response to this was to tell her she was smart and clever which is nice but he never really tells her that she’s beautiful. As a reader we are privy to his thoughts and he definitely thinks a lot of positive things about her appearance, but this is clearly a woman that needs to hear these affirmations voiced aloud.

Don’t even get me started on the awful puns. 🙈

I’ll admit that I find clean romance to be a bit unsatisfying, but it wasn’t the spice level that pulled down my rating in this case. As much as I wanted to lose myself to the Scottish setting and the “hot Scot, I just couldn’t make this one work.

Pepper Basham writes books that are witty, humorous, and engaging. In Some Like It Scot, there are two main characters who are really fun to get to know, a grumpy and broody Scottish man and a clumsy but caring and fun American girl Katie is in Scotland for an Edwardian Experience for the traveling blog/website she writes for. She is called Miss Adventure because of her accidents and misadventures. Graeme's family owns the manor house where the event takes place, although the house is rented to another party. The two don't start off on the right foot but do develop an appreciation for each other as time goes on. Think, hot Scot rescues clumsy American girl. Again and Again. Throw in some likable locals, including Graeme's mom and nephew, and Katie falls in love with her first generation American Scottish grandfather's family's homeland and this is a delightful read. Both have some issues to overcome but faith leads them to face their past. Oh and a kilt, Scottish Games, and bagpipes! Loved it!

i’m so sorry but i couldn’t get into this book. i wanted to love it soooo badly, but for one, the writing was juvenile. for two, the words that she spelt to be like a scottish accent was stupid imo. for three, i couldn’t connect with a single character. and for four, just not my cup of tea.

if i had read this book, say, 3-4 years ago before i developed a taste for good writing i would have likely loved it.
it was clean, it has a Christian author and you can tell in her wording.
but it just wasn’t for me.

i found every line to be annoying, and found myself either skimming full paragraphs or zoning out while reading bc i was bored.

the romance was a meh for me, i feel like the characters didn’t have that much chemistry.

would i recommend this book?
if you’re either under the age of 13 or don’t care about bad writing and clunky dialogue then sure. otherwise? i’d say pass on this one.

also wanna take a moment to appreciate that the mmc on the cover is wearing a kilt and traditionally no undergarments were worn underneath? 😷
that gave me the ick ngl

“Love is always an act of faith, because we cannot see the future. But there are some leaps, that seem impossible and others that are not. What makes the difference? The strength of character of the lovers and the choices they are willing to make. If the two people are willing to make the hard commitment to each other and do the work love requires, the leap isn’t as far.

I think this might be one of my favorite arcs I’ve ever read. This book plays in Schotland. I have to admit, I know absolutely nothing about Schotland other than that I’ve always been obsessed with the scenery. I for one, am not all too interested in the amount of rain there but I would absolutely love to visit someday! Pepper Basham sketched such a clear picture in my mind that I think I might be in love with Schotland now.

This book follows Katie. Katie is a travel writer who is widely known for her “miss adventures. She therefore goes by the name of “Miss Adventure It’s very safe to say that Katie just has extremely bad luck which usually ends up in funny scenarios but sometimes also dangerous. She loves to write and her readers love the laugh she brings to their faces when they read her articles. Katie’s character is build on a lot of childhood trauma. Her mother had been emotionally absent since her older sister passed away. Her father is not even in the picture to begin with. The only person who’s truly in her life that she can build on is her brother. Her brother who is happily married to his wife Jessica and who she loves through and through. She is so envious of what her brother has, but has a very bad self image and therefore thinks she’ll never find that type of love and even if she did, she wouldn’t deserve it. I felt so deeply for Katie. The way her mind works even though she tries so hard to always please everyone else and make other people a priority above herself.

Her job takes her to Scotland to write about her experience at Craighill House. A Scottish home designed for people to immerse themselves in the Edwardian lifestyle. Kn her first day falls into (literally) the arms of a tall and handsome Scottish man named Graeme. At first they despise each other but after spending more and more time together they slowly start to realize the others not so bad after all! They bond over shared trauma of the loss of a sister and slowly start to open up to each other. Katie uses humor as her coping mechanism which is very familiar to me. Katie is such a real character I felt a little emotional listening to this book. The characters are so pure and the found family is absolutely heartwarming. They both experience such growth in their characters and I just hope so bad they get to be happy together forever.

The amount of times I smiled and laughed out loud during this book is insane. the humor and the amount of puns are so amazing and make it just such a good time! I also love Lachlans character with all my heart. That boy experienced something no kid should ever have to go through and he’s dealing with it in such a wonderful way. I seriously adore this book! This will be on my mind for a long time!

This is a clean book with no spice and no curse words! An amazing palette cleanser if you need one.

I would like to thank NetGalley, Thomas Nelson and Zondervan Fiction Audio and the author of this book, Pepper Basham, for allowing me the opportunity to listen to this amazing ALC.

I would also like to offer my condolences to the author. The authors note at the end broke my heart a little. I’m so proud and happy you found the courage to be able to finish writing this amazing book!!

Rarely do I read romance only books. Pepper Basham is one of my favorite authors in this genre. This book was uplifting and witty. Graem and Katie were delightful main characters. It was a fun read from start to finish. The narrator gave an outstanding performance. Loved the lilt of the Scottish accents. Beautiful, light faith content. Looking forward to more by this author. Highly recommend if you enjoy clean romances.

There are a variety of reasons why I decide to try a book. Sometimes it's the blurb. Other times it's the author. In Some Like It Scot's case, it was because I saw the main female character is tall.

Humor abounds in this book, primarily because Katie is a world class champion at attracting catastrophe. I related so much to her: her height (although I'm five inches shorter than her 6'1"), her clumsiness, and the immense awkwardness that comes from growing up towering over almost everyone. There's more to Katie than her catastrophicness, though. She's a kind and caring soul doing everything she can to protect her wounded and battered heart.

Enter Graeme. I am so, so, so happy this is not a "short girl ends up with the tall guy" situation (because, frankly, I'm beyond sick of reading about it). It was so gratifying to watch the adorable romance bloom between the two.

Most of the secondary characters are great, too, excluding Mark the Menace. He's not great. He's on the Seamus the Highland Cow level of nasty (if you know, you know).

The plot is fun, touching, and well-paced. There is a light sprinkling of faith and I really enjoyed the church scene.

There are few content warnings: emotional manipulation by a secondary character and some sabotage by another. There is a possible instance of the Lord's name taken in vain.

In conclusion, with a hearty dose of humor, a nice dose of slow-burn romance, and a gentle sprinkle of faith, Some Like It Scot is a fun, heartwarming story that will both make you laugh and encourage you to remember God's purposeful design for making everyone unique.

This novel offers an irresistible combination of wanderlust, romance, and self-discovery, all set against the stunning backdrop of the Scottish Highlands. Katie Campbell, a restless travel writer, embarks on a three-week Edwardian experience in Craighill House and finds more than just material for her next article. The story promises both a physical and emotional journey as Katie navigates themes of belonging, grief, and love. Ultimately, this story seems like more than just a romance; it’s an exploration of the many ways we define "home" and find our place in the world.

I tried. Oh how I tried so hard to read slowly, to savor each page, to pace myself to make the reading last longer.

But I fell head over heels in love with everything about this book and I just couldn’t stop!

I could feel the breeze, and the rain, and the path beneath Katie’s feet as she explored the world of Scotland, specifically Mull and surrounding villages and towns.

I could smell the heather and taste the tea and the wonderful flavors unique to the locale. I could hear the puffins and see the sheep and I ran from Seamus.

And I fell deeply in love with this eclectic and amazing cast of characters. All of their brogue and turns of phrases and unique words just rolled off the page and into my heart and mind.

I’ve never been to Scotland but I feel as if I’ve just had the loveliest time meandering the hills and visiting the shops and meeting the people.

Pepper Basham has crafted an exquisite story filled with her trademark wit and humor, jam packed with heart and faith, and need I mention the kissing??

I think not! She is the queen of kissing books and she does it with such style and just the right amount of passion. A master class.

My thanks to the publisher for an advance copy of this fabulous book! My review has not been solicited and all of the gushing and fangirling is totally my own.

Some like it Scot indeed! (I hope we get to go back for more!)

Get ready for a book you won't want to put down! I have read many of Basham's books but this one is her best yet! Scotland. Travel. Books. Romance. Humor. Puns. Local lore and legend. SO much heart. Oh my goodness I loved this book! A story is really special if it can make me laugh and cry and feel everything in between. The characters are terrific all the way around. Katie is hilarious and so real to life. Her struggles many will be able to empathize with and it is so well written. Graeme has so many layers and it was a joy to read his perspective throughout the book. The secondary characters warmed my heart in many ways and I felt like I was in Mull having a cup of tea with them. I laughed so many times! I was worried that Katie would be over the top and the silliness would take me out of the book but nope it just added to the delight. The ending is so much better than I had even hoped! It was realistic and I truly didn't want this to end. We need more books in this quaint village in Scotland. Perhaps Graeme's brothers stories?! In any case. This is one of the best books I have read this year. Very fun and yet keeps you pondering life long after you finish reading the last page.

Thank you to the publisher and NetGalley for this ARC.

I received a complimentary copy of this book. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.

"Some Like It Scot" follows the adventurous Katie, known as "Miss Adventure" on her trip to Scotland where she meets the tall and mysterious Graeme.

Her adventures get her into all kinds of trouble which she uses to entertain her loyal followers, but they also introduce her to her host who mostly rescues her from them. With all that, the two fall in love.

The charms of Scotland are also shown through the "Edwardian Experience" project, to which Katie was originally invited. Through that project and exploring the environment, she meets many people, troubles, love, mysteries, stories and her search for home.

I liked the quality of the writing, the trope of grump and sunshine, slow-burn, witty banter and Katie's relationship with religion. What I didn't like, is everything involving Katie's annoying mother and her rival colleague Mark.

I wholeheartedly recommend this book to everyone who likes stories about love, searching for home, a little bit of history and suspense.

I give this book 5 stars.

Some Like It Scot by Pepper Basham was an enjoyable swoon-worthy read for those of us who like Scotsmen.

Katie Campbell is a popular travel writer who visits Scotland as part of a three-week Edwardian Immersion Tour. Katie is known as Miss Adventure. . .which is somewhat a play on words as she often gets herself into scrapes or "misadventures." Graeme MacKerrow is in the just the right place at the right time to be a part of Katie's first misadventure in Scotland. From that moment on, the relationship is off to a fun start.

I so enjoyed getting to know Graeme (Pronounced Gray-ham) and his family through the eyes of Katie. I could relate to how she was drawn to his warm and caring family. I also loved getting to know Katie. Both were fun characters. I enjoyed how they shared humor and how they got to know each other through the book. There were also some deliciously romantic moments that filled my starry-eyed heart.

As I read Some Like It Scot, my heart also went out to Katie as I got to know her struggles behind her smiles and humor and why she chose a life of travel. Katie's family faced a real challenge when her sister passed away. After that happened, the real dysfunction of her family came through in a way that left Katie's heart wounded and shut away. I could really relate to Katie as I come from a family with similar issues but for different reasons. I also have a Scottish grandfather that I was close to, like Katie, so I related there as well. There is plenty of tea drinking in the book and my Scottish grandfather also started me drinking tea when I was a little girl. I loved hearing Katie talk about her Scottish grandparents back home in North Carolina and how they helped her in her difficult times and showed her the love she didn't get in her family of origin. There was so much depth in that part of the story that I could relate to. Katie and Graeme also connected over loss as Graeme also had a sister pass away a few years ago in the story.

I enjoyed the cast of characters in Some Like it Scot, from the other writers in the Edwardian experience to Graeme's family and friends in Scotland and Katie's brothers back home in the States. All in all, this was an especially enjoyable read for me. I like how this author shows empathy for those who are hurting through her characters. I laughed and I teared up in this book.

Some Like it Scot by Pepper Basham released on April 8, 2025 and is now available for pre-order.

I so appreciate receiving an early copy of this book through NetGalley and the publisher. All opinions within this review are my own.

Pepper is an absolute Queen when it comes to heart and humour! I laughed and cried over her newest instalment of delight!

With a subtle nod to Austenland in the way of an “Edwardian Experience, travel writer Katie Campbell heads to Scotland for the misadventure of a lifetime. My favourite thing about Katie besides her wit, humour, kindness, etc. was her height. Tall girl representation is rare—especially for those of us in the 6 and counting range. I could have cried with happiness as I felt Katie’s struggles with everything from dress length to shoe size. There may be benefits to height, but the downfalls abound, haha.

I utterly fell in love with Mull and its welcoming people. Mirren, Lachlan, and Graeme especially. I would absolutely love to live there. It doesn’t hurt that I’m a sucker for the accent, too. 😍 Also, that clever mention of Skymar, Pepper?! Icing on the cake!

In short, I was so moved—to laughter & tears. The humour was so on point with Katie’s misadventures, the romance between Graeme & Katie and the healing it brought was beautiful, and most of all, the tenderness at the heart of the story—finding home and belonging—hit me so deeply!

"It's not about your hold on God. It's about His hold on you."

Oh, Pepper Basham is the best. Her rom-coms are truly and utterly delightful. I loved Katie's fresh, honest, and fun first person voice and her accident-prone humorous self. She made me laugh until I cried. And Graeme. He was so sigh-worthy. His raw, tender, and steadfast first person voice drew me in from the beginning. He made me swoon and he made me cry especially when he loved on his family and talked about his twin sister. Katie's adventures and misadventures in Scotland were charming and lovely. I've never visited Scotland and now I so want to be there!
Their friendship and romance were incredibly sweet and I really enjoyed meeting Graeme's family members. Faith was naturally woven into the storyline and into the characters' lives and backstories. I loved the phrase "love lingers long" and will be pondering this for a while to come. The concept of home was central to Katie finally finding herself and I loved the idea that "sometimes home is a place and sometimes it's a person and sometimes it's both."

One of my favorite books of 2025! I received a complimentary copy courtesy of Thomas Nelson via JustRead Tours and NetGalley and was under no obligation to post a positive comment. All opinions are my own.

This was my fourth Pepper Basham book, and just like the others, I throughly enjoyed it. Contemporary is not my genre, but after reading her Skymar series, and hearing this one was set in Scotland and had a handsome Scot, how could I resist giving this one a try?
I first started with the audiobook, and let me just tell you…it is amazing! Especially the main guy’s perspective…the accent, the deep rich tones, the Gaelic…oh how could a romantic girl like me not swoon and fall in love?
I love Scotland and have been delving more and more into books and learning as much as I can about the country and its people, so this book was right up my alley.

Overall this was a fun read. I enjoyed Katie’s journey and growth as a writer and the Edwardian experience. The setting was beautifully described and I had a great time listening and picturing Scotland as Katie experienced it. Katie’s growth as a writer and in her faith were the main themes in this book more so than the slow burn romance, but it was a good read nonetheless.

“Sometimes home is a place. Sometimes it’s a person. Sometimes it’s both.

It is rare that a story renders me speechless, but I am truly struggling to find the words to sum up all this story meant to me. My only complaint would be having to try to be patient as I wait for the paperback copy to release next year.

I've read over 250 books this year, and THIS one, is now in the number 1 spot!

This review may be a jumbled of mess of ramblings because truthfully I loved the story so much I can't figure out how to put that love on the page. Plus I don't want to give too much away. But here you go anyway...

Katie is a traveling blogger, a pun queen, and a source of what I can only assume is bad luck, that she twists into instant fame. She needs this job here in Scotland for her career but also for her personal growth. She's here for an event but also because it reminds her of her Grandparents, the closest thing she had to a "home." Graeme is the owner of the place where the event is taking place, hes also the contractor making the repairs, the Scottish hero ( you'll see why soon enough), the butler lol, a dance partner, and a man who will change Katie's life... but little does she know that just yet. She literally falls into Graemes grumpy arms and from there they instantly butt heads. But there is a thin line between love and hate... and the more time they spend together those feelings soon morph into something more real!

Everyone's running from something. Sometimes it's a past they can't leave behind, a loss they can't stop grieving, or perhaps BOTH those things are holding you captive until you pray, process, and heal.

When life let's you down enough times you start doubting everything, including God's plan and his goodness and you put walls up to protect your heart and start making your own way in life. But when we shy away from love, settling down, taking that leap... that was never Gods plan. Graeme and Katie have to learn that through their faith in him, and the people he will place in their lives ( like each other) they can step out on faith, take a risk, dare to make plans, and allow time for love.

How Pepper Basham manages to have me laughing one second, crying the next, swooning over a Graeme moment, or at the edge of my seat waiting for all the feels... Idk how she does it! I was on an emotional roller coaster, and I did not want to get off! Lol! You all, I just can't sum up this book is words, there are none. I went in looking for a Scottish romance and boy did I get that. But gosh, it also just spoke to my heart a bit, spoke to my faith, my path in life, healing, growth, and moving on. And gosh the two main characters phew... Graeme is grumpy on the exterior but such a sweet soul on the inside. And Katie is so confident and happy on the outside, but she is second-guessing, insecure, and running away from her situation, scared that if she settles down , life will disappoint her again. Both of them are operating on fear, something their loved ones have been telling them they have been doing. But they don't realize it, until they meet each other....

Can Katie help Graeme to step out of his comfort zone, take some risks, show his talents, plan for more of a future? Can Graeme help Katie accept who she is, remind her she's enough, help her find a new place to call home and perhaps allow him to be her home? All that is only possible through God's power, but perhaps he will work through them, to help the other heal?!

Just for fun....

The scenery in this is stunningly described and every time something new is described I just wanted to hop on a plane and visit.
The characters and story are okay, not fantastic, but not crap either.
Just kind of average.
Still a decent read, and the townsfolk are fabulous side characters.

Cute romance read (clean) with lots of mishaps for Katie.

Katie is a travel blogger/writer who has been everywhere, but nowhere really has ever felt like home. And honestly, nowhere has ever really filled that hole in her heart (or person). Until Scotland.

Graeme, what a guy. The banter, the wit, the stories. The old ladies in town. This book had it all, all in the little island of Mull.

Prepare to laugh, have your emotions pulled in every which way, and also be ready to make your own and have your emotions pulled in every which way.

Thank you NetGalley and Thomas Nelson Publishing for my ARC.

An American travel writer, forever searching for a place to call home, and a reclusive Scotsman harboring a surprising secret discover an unexpected bond when she steps into a Highlands manor house transformed into an Edwardian experience for three weeks.

Katie Campbell has spent her entire life on the move. As the daughter of an army chaplain, relocating—from different homes to entirely new countries—was the norm. Her wild childhood tales evolved into a successful career as a travel writer, seemingly the perfect fit for her wanderlust.

If you adore witty banter, swoon-worthy kisses, slow-burn romances, and grand adventures, you'll love "Some Like It Scot." This story is particularly remarkable, evoking laughter, tears, and every emotion in between. The characters are exceptional—Katie is hilarious and incredibly relatable, her struggles resonate deeply, while Graeme's many layers are a delight to uncover throughout the book.

When life repeatedly lets you down, you may start doubting everything, including God's plan and goodness, building walls around your heart and forging your own path. However, shying away from love, settling down, and taking that leap was never part of God's plan.

"Some Like It Scot" is more than just a romance. It promises both a physical and emotional journey as Katie navigates themes of belonging, grief, and love.

Thank you, NetGalley and Publisher, for the eARC.

5 Stars!!!
Another wonderful and clean romance from Pepper Basham! This story centers around travel journalist Katie Campbell, whose career success has been made largely due to her proclivity for MISadventure on her travels. She currently finds herself in Scotland, to spend 3 weeks living in an "Edwardian Experience" (literally, learning to live, dress, eat, dance etc like they did in Edwardian times). She quickly runs into the MMC - Graeme and their relationship gets off to a rocky start.

This is a sunshine/grumpy romance that will make you laugh. It will also pull on your heartstrings as both MCs are suffering through grief caused by deaths of siblings. This story is full of hope, witty banter, gorgeous descriptions of Scotland, swoony moments and of course love. I highly recommend it!

Pepper Basham does it again.

This heartfelt story was full of laughs and tears. The author touches on some heavy topics but they are done with funny puns.

We follow Katie a travel writer who doesn’t long to settle down due to not feeling loved by people in her life and dealing with some buried grief. Until she goes on this whimsical assignment and finds a Scot and his family who welcome her with an overwhelming love.

There are a few triggers but they are done with respect and grace:

Grief
Sibling lost
Child lost

Tropes:
Grumpy/Sunshine
He falls first
Damsel in Distress
Tall FMC
Single Parent

I would recommend this to the person looking for a light hearted rom-com full of tough topics and belly laughs.

Me. I like it Scot.

This romp through Scotland was utterly delightful. The characters were relatable and loveable, especially the two main characters. I relate to Katie's wanderlust and clumsiness and easily fell for Graeme's good heart and strong arms. I think I highlighted at least three dozen passages. Some places, some stories, some books just connect to you on a soul-deep level and Some Like It Scot was that kind of book for me.

Thank you to the author, publisher, and Netgalley for giving me an advanced copy to review. My opinions are purely my own, and I was not required to leave a positive review.

What a delightfully fun story, with a swoony hero and an amazing setting! Yet even though there are many quirky and humorous moments, this novel delves into some deeply emotional topics such as grief, feeling as if you are “less than, and the definition of home.

I really felt for these two main characters who had been through some significant losses in their lives. And where Graeme always had the support of a loving family, even through the hard times, Katie’s parents did not offer that for her.

I really felt as if I was experiencing life right along with Katie in this story. The author did an amazing job of making this Scottish community come to life in my heart. In fact, when I set the book down, I actually wondered about the possibility of trying to visit there some day. She truly captured the essence of what home and true acceptance of someone looks like. I loved this story more and more with every turn of the page!

wow, i absolutely LOVED this so much!!!
the setting, the vibes, the scenery, the characters, the humor!!!!! every singular piece fit so so so well & seamlessly into another that it made it hard not to cry or laugh while listening to this 🙂‍↔️

from the very first line, this story swept me up and carried me on the winds to the beautiful scottish isles where i was told stories about kelpies, fairies, about grumpy 6" hot scots and clumsy travel bloggers that are afraid of sheep and a little boy that loves to go fishing with his best friend, aka his dog. gosh, this was so adorable. and the dual pov???? immaculate!!! the accents? oh boy, i was SWOONING!!!!
this was adorable from start to finish and i loved every, single. thing. about. it!!! 🥺

listening to this audiobook was absolutely perfect and so easy to follow! i honestly loved every single second and i truly think that everyone should listen to it rather than reading the book because that scottish accent? ON GRAHAM????? sorry i went FERAL when i hear that for the first time ever. this man could swoon my pants off any day of the week if he'd want 🙂‍↔️😭✨💓
and then he's also a dad???? well, more like a guardian but OH MY!!!!!! what a hot scot (heheh)

the way the scenes were described made me truthfully paint the pictures in my mind, everything was so idyllic, so aesthetic, so ethereal. it made me long for a place i haven't even visited yet but one that now is 100% on my bucket list for traveling. how gorgeous. i love when reading gives me the ability to travel to another world by staying on my couch hehehe 🙂‍↔️🌾✨

also the pig heart scene was iconic, i literally laughed out loud so hard hahaha the humor and banter sprinkled throughout the entire book was phenomenal and very delectable 🙂‍↔️

a huge thank you to miss pepper basham herself and netgalley for providing me with an ALC it has been an absolute pleasure to listen to "some like it scot" and all the thoughts previously shared are my own.

Some Like It Scot is an adorable romantic comedy. The female main character, Katie Campbell is a travel blogger who seems to get herself into clumsy, and awkward situations. The male main character, Graeme MacKerrow is a handsome Scot who is a wee bit grumpy at first sight. There are several comedic slap stick scenes that will have the reader chuckle at poor Katie's misadventures. This book has some sweet moments that have precious inspirational tenderness in them. There are other characters, Lachlin especially, that round out the story to make it a sweet romance.
I listened to the book and there are two narrators, one for Katie and the other for Graeme. I felt they both brought the story to life. I enjoyed it!!
*I was given a copy of this book by the publisher, and this is my honest opinion.
