Discover the beginning of an epic tale in A Piper’s Tale, the debut novel by Philip L. Preston.
A Piper's Tale by Philip Preston is an exciting, whimsical, take on the classic fantasy adventure genre. The story is framed by the narrator explaining that they are a dear fried of "The Piper" and they are telling his story. While grounded by the Piper's simple desire to find a pipe to smoke that will finally allow him to life up to his name and details of his every day life--the reader will find themselves quickly launched into a fantastical and whimsically dangerous world.
I'd reccomend this book to anyone who is looking for a fantasy book with all the stakes, complexities adventures, and dangers typical of the genre, but also looking for a less grimdark interpretaion of the genre.
A fresh new voice in the fantasy genre. A whimsical journey on the order of Alice in Wonderland and Harry Potter, but the hero is a 30 or so year old man in search of a unique pipe to justify his given name. Filled with culinary feasts he gathers from the woods, A Piper’s Tale is a classic quest in which he meets fascinating creatures throughout, both good and evil. I especially liked the Cloaked Figure who joins the Piper for a Yuletide celebration.
A great gift book for teens and a nifty read for adults who love fantasy.
