I won this book from LibraryThing.
I enjoyed reading this graphic novel, and part 1 as well! It is suspenseful, and Suee is a smart and funny girl. There are several interesting characters, and it is amazing how they come to life with just a few words and the pictures! This is a great YA series because the subject matter is interesting and unique, while being clean at the same time. There is a focus on bullying, and it will be interesting to see how this is resolved in later installments. You will need to read part one first, since part 2 picks up directly where part one leaves off and there is no real review of part one. This is a mystery, and part 2 ends in a cliffhanger, so it definitely leaves the reader wondering what will happen next.

It didn't seem to flow very well, and some of the writing was a bit formal. Having read a lot of writing by ESL students, this felt a bit like the writer's first language isn't English. The main character's voice didn't seem to match her age, even if she was supposed to be a mature character.

It reminded me a bit of Anya's Ghost (young girl, ghost-like girl following her around, gaining power, a hole in the ground...)

I do like the art and cover design. I read an ARC, though, so I didn't get to experience it in full color.

The last couple pages, where it is made clear there could (probably will) be a sequel seemed forced.

I can’t read the book. Book 1 is about a girl who’s shadow comes to life and takes over her entire body and all of her actions and words

There's not a whole lot to say about . Volume I and II are quick reads with a story that fits just right - neither stretched out ridiculously to pad the pages nor rushed through super quickly to get everything in. The book is just the right amount of creepiness for, say, an eleven year old to read. It's intriguing -- just exactly what is Suee's shadow doing, talking to her and doing what it wants. There's a brief moral message about being an ally to bullied kids (Don't stand by and let it happen to others!) that isn't too schmaltzy (although it comes close). Odd or bullied kids are called zeroes, which seems suitably both draconic and sad, and there's a whole idea that most adults can't see what the children do, which will appeal to anyone who was one of those kids who thought they knew everything while the adults knew zilch. The drawings are cute (귀여운!) and the panels are rarely overly busy. While the comic was translated from its original Korean, it shouldn't feel overtly foreign or disorienting to a North American audience.

I'd say more, but really, it only took me about ten minutes to read each volumes, so I've run out of stuff to say. Of course, Volume II ends on a cliffhanger and so I don't know what I'm supposed to do. Two free Volumes? Maybe I can somehow weasel out the third volume for free whenever it comes out.

I received a free copy of this book in return for a review, via the LibraryThing Early Reviewers program.

Not just the guy at the corner store, but no adults can see the zeroes.

That's why none of the teachers seem to care that kids are losing their shadows.

Zeroes have hollow eyes and no shadows, but adults aren't able to notice. To them, it just looks like the kids are a little gloomy, that's all.

Suee and the only two non-zero children in the special after-school class, cool loner Hyunwoo and class loser Haeun, form the Zero Detective Club and start investigating the zeroes, although Suee is not pleased that Huynwoo suggested involving Haeun. They quickly realise that the zeroes are the lonely and the bullied, the children without friends, and statistical analysis of the number of zeroes in each grade leads the Zero Detective Club to suspect that there may be a connection to the exhibits room. But Suee could be putting the other members of the Zero Detective Club in danger, as she hasn't told them about her shadow, which is interfering in Suee's life more and more.

I'm looking forward to reading the next part, as I still don't know why children are being turned into zeroes and how Suee avoided becoming a zero when she went into the exhibits room on her first day. What is the Vice Principal up to and are Queen Bee Yejin Kang's parents involved too? How does the exhibits room fit into things? Is Suee's shadow good or bad, her conscience or a monster?

I received a copy of this title from the author via LibraryThing Early Reviewers.

Ten Second Synopsis:
The Zero Detective Club is on the case (somewhat reluctantly in the case of Suee) to figure out why the zero class members have no shadows. Things take a turn for the worse though when Suee's rogue shadow somehow gains more power than any sentient shadow ought to have.

Another very engaging effort from Ginger Ly. There's a lot more action in this second instalment of Suee's shadowy adventures, with Suee's shadow turning a little bit nasty. I enjoyed the interactions between Suee, Hyunwoo and Haeun and liked that the author is pushing Suee through a little bit of personal growth.

This part is significantly shorter than the original one (or at least it felt like that to me) but considering there's a lot going on I wasn't too upset about that. (Although I always want graphic novels to be longer!)

The book ends on a cliffhanger also so I will be hanging out for part three to find out whether Suee and her friends make it out unscathed or whether that creepy shadow finds a way to overpower them all.

Recommended.

Again, this one impressed me quit a bit as well! In this second installment the reader gets to know what was going on with the plot a bit more. I don't want to talk about it because it would spoil the story but this one also ended with a big cliffhanger. The art and style are very well executed, for it's simple and clever. The story has enough of a mysterious feeling that keeps the reader invested in the novel as well as in the characters! I will definitely be picking up the next installment to find out what happens to Suee and her pal detectives. Live, read, and imagine! ;)

This is a great read for parents with younger children who want to introduce the subject of bullying into their conversations. Suee and her friends form the Zero Detective Agency to find out why some classmates lose their shadows. The graphics are cute and well done. It is a very short book and I recommend reading Book One before Two. My thanks to the author and LibraryThing for a complimentary copy.

Another cliffhanger! I thought this was only a two-parter, but now I must know how things end. Some questions are answered and things get even creepier, but there is so much more to learn.
