Jack Turner has returned to his hometown of Denton, Florida, to live there for the first time in eighteen years. Despite a career as a criminal defense attorney and the companionship of his new dog, Brinkley, Jack is haunted by what is missing in his life.
Whether it’s the unanswered questions about his brother, Rick, who never returned from Vietnam, or a budding romance with Jenny Walton, Jack is wary of getting close to anyone beyond a few trusted friends and his beloved dogs. But when he’s assigned to represent an old childhood tormentor for armed robbery, Jack is forced to re-evaluate his past and consider his own failings in dealing with others.
This endearing sequel to Floating Twigs takes an honest look at love and redemption as Jack discovers that finding twigs is more difficult than floating them.
Note: The reader does not need to have read Floating Twigs to read and follow this book, though of course it is better to have read that one before reading Finding Twigs to know more about the main characters.
Charles Tabb retired from teaching to pursue his dream of writing. His family supported his decision, and a year later he published his first novel, Floating Twigs, while also publishing several short stories with various literary journals. He has won successive Golden Nib awards for fiction. In 2018 his story "As Luck Would Have It" won third prize, and in 2019 the psychological thriller "The Thirteenth Painting" won first prize. Now his fan base is growing, with readers from all over the U.S.
Charles lives near Richmond, Virginia, with his wife, dogs, and computer. His wife enjoys tending to her two off-the-track thoroughbred horses, but Charles prefers their dogs. He was elected president of the Hanover Writers Club, a chapter of the Virginia Writers Club, in March 2019. He is also a proud and active member of the Virginia Writers Club and James River Writers.
Charles' desire to go out and do something with his life started at age three when his mother told him to wait in the car, which was parked in the driveway, for maybe a minute while she went inside to retrieve something she needed for the short jaunt into town. Once alone, Charles moved to the driver's seat and put the car in gear. The vehicle rolled down the driveway and was heading for the mailbox across the street when a neighbor mowing his lawn heard Charles' shouts for help (the car's windows were rolled up, mind you) and managed to hit the brake and put the car back in gear before tragedy struck. To this day, Charles can be loud enough to be heard in a crowded room if the need arises.
Although he loves to travel, he prefers to be seated at his desktop writing novels and short stories. His second novel, Hell is Empty, is the first in a detective series. It will be released in the fall of 2019.
Charles is also available to speak to groups about writing. If you would like to contact him about speaking to a group, you can reach him at charlestabb.com, where contact information is provided. He also speaks to school groups, especially high school English students, about goal-setting and meeting those goals, using his writing career as an example.
The first Twigs book was 5⭐️but this one was silky and nonsensical. The romance part cheesy and awful. I’ll try the third book in this series and hope it will be better.
I was sorely disappointed in the second installment of Tabb's "Twigs" duet. After meeting Jack Turner in the first book, I was so drawn to his story that I couldn't wait for more. Although the author brought Jack's story and the loose ends dangling in the first book to a complete closure, there were excruciatingly painful bumps to tackle -- not only for Jack but the reader as well.
First, Jack was much more mature as a 13-year-old boy than as a 36-year-old man. It was almost impossible to believe how wimpy and whiney he appeared in the second installment. And while I'm glad that he found his lady love, I certainly wasn't impressed by his dating skills. Then again, his girlfriend was equally as immature and goofy acting, too. And it seemed he was tearing up or crying around every corner, along with most of the men involved in this story. I've got nothing against men showing their feelings and shedding a few tears -- but I never even felt close to tears in this story. It was a joy to see that Jack's best buddy was still his dog -- a new one but still a lovable dog.
Nope -- the wrap-up was not what I anticipated or expected after reading Charles Tabb's first book. Very disappointed and saddened.
I am the author, and I want to extend an invitation to the thousands of readers who loved my debut novel, Floating Twigs, to read this, its sequel. I believe you will find it just as good. Unlike Floating Twigs, it is not a coming-of-age novel, but that doesn't mean Jack doesn't still deal with issues from his childhood.
This was fitting sequel to Floating Twigs. I enjoyed how Tabb continued the story lines of many of the main characters from his first novel in this series. While the mysteries of the main plot were well written, I had a hard time following the secondary plot of Jack Turner's romance. It just didn't flow as well or seem as realistic to me, thus the 4-star rating instead of 5.
Floating Twigs was a wonderful book, and a must read in order to understand the lessons taught in this book. This is another great book of love and forgiveness. I loved the characters here, and was happy that Jack found love and also rediscovered an addition to his family. This may only be a two-book series, but I would love for it to continue!
Because his story lines grab me. So much so I never take more than two days to read his books. And this one didn’t disappoint me. I so wanted Jack to have a happy ending. You must read this book.
I read Floating Twigs and couldn't wait to read this sequel. I hope there will be another one. I am sure I will read both books again. I highly recommend this book. I love the way Mr. Tabb writes and he is an author I will be following.
I spent the day reading this book and need time to digest it fully. Character followup was great. Enjoy the metaphors he uses. I read his other 2 books and thoroughly enjoyed them. Passing through the debris of life.
Enjoyed this book very much from the beginning to the end. I had read Floating Twigs and enjoyed it just as much. So when I saw this book that continued the story, I had to read it too. The books are well written and easy to read. They are clean, no bad language and no detailed sexual content. There is something happening all the time to keep your interest. I loved both books. Thank you Mr. Tabb for two enjoyable reads.
This novel is a sequel to the author's Floating Twigs. It is the continuation of the story of Jack Turner. Jack, who has now graduated from law school and worked in New Orleans, has returned to his hometown of Denton, Florida, to open a one-man law firm. He becomes involved in two cases. One he is assigned from the public defender's office turns out to be one of his childhood nemesis, Tommy Gordon. The other is Tiffany, a seventeen-year old accused of selling cocaine. Jack also meets Jenny, a young woman employed by the public defender's office. The characters are interesting and their intertwined stories draw you in. I would definitely recommend reading Floating Twigs first, so you are familiar with Jack's childhood and his family.
A continuation of Floating Twigs and second book in the series. This one not as good for me and didn't seem like the same author. It is rather childish geared more for young adults I think. The lower rating however, is not because it wasn't my cup of tea but rather the repetitious nature. Jack Turner, now a lawyer meets Jenny and then the continuous dry teen-age I love yous, pack a bag and stay over, going out to eat references was annoying enough that I skipped those parts. Finding twigs refers to Jack finding love, finding his brother and finding friendship and forgiveness from an old childhood bully.
I liked it most of the time but he sure was a winey fellow. I had no idea I was at the end of the book untill it just stopped. I thought they would go and develop his marriage and possible children, how Rick was doing, if they sit up a foundation as planned and what it accomplished. etc. If I knew I was only a few pages from the ending but thinking there was much more to come I went on to bed. Next morning I got up to finish and less than 5 mins later I was done. Do what??? So many unanswered questions. Where's the rest of it??
I didn’t want the book to end! Such a great story! Blends perfectly with the first book of this series, extremely well written, endearing characters, terrific plot twists, it was like being part of the book instead of just reading a book. Author Charles Tabb is now one of my favorite fiction authors. He is SOLID and should be on everyone’s library shelf.
I kept seeing these books on my FB feed and kept passing over them. I finally said, oh heck, let's just see what this is all about. And boy am I glad I did. These books are hard to put down. I stayed up until 2 am to finish book 2 and am on to book 3. If you want to read a great story about a young man who faced many troubles from a failed family to an almost failed justice system, please read this story. Read in order is advised. You will not be disappointed.
Hi, I rarely review a book but felt I had to review both the Twigs" books. I'm a bookaholic. Probably, at least 70 per year and your 2 books, especially the first one, were among the best reads I've had in a long time! I will now go look at what else you've written and pray they are just as good. THANK YOU!!!
I read a lot of books , lately I've read some pretty weird stuff and I've quit reading some books because they were just boring or straight up evil. These two were right up my alley. Loved them both. Can't handle the predictable "romances" but this was just right.
Nice to have a follow up story of the Turners . Great to have another dog in this story. The brothers do reunite after finally finding each other. The thoughts of Jack sometimes turned into a bit of preaching about certain topics. The girlfriend was decisive, but then indecisive. Couldn’t figure her out. Was hoping for another heartstring story.
I absolutely loved the continuation of the characters lives. There were so many twists and turns. There were so many elements to this book: romance, mystery, and family relationships. The book keeps you interest all the way through. It is a clean written novel that deals with problems many encounter in life. Highly recommend.
I really enjoyed reading Finding Twigs after having red Floating Twigs several months back. Great story of youth, redemption and the power of love. I also think that it involves what all of us have, Survival skills. Anybody who reads this really should read floating twigs 1st and then read finding twig second. Very good read
The book and the prequel floating twigs are both just extraordinary Books. I have so enjoyed both of these, so well written, heartfelt, heartbreaking, real world problem stories Of Good versus evil and good winning out. I would read anything this author writes.
Couldn't put the book down, its such a good story.
I loved this story. Characters are well defined, story is believable like living everyday events. Love the writing. No stupid murder mystery just a great novel of life. I read it straight through. Looking forward to more novels from Mr. Tabb.
This is a phenomenal second book. A wonderful sequel. Charles Tabb has a gift for bringing the characters to life. I didn't want to put the book down and when I had to, I kept thinking about when I could continue reading. I'm sorry that it ended. I will be following this author.
Though I enjoyed this sequel. I lied the first book better. The main character has grown up and returns to Denton FL to start a law practice and search for his long lost older brother. i found the attempts at romance to be a bit stiff. as if the author was uncomfortable writing it. Was a good story a nd I would recommend it.
Drugs, alcohol and lack of love destroy a lot of humans. Without kindness the world is lost! However, without dogs with their unconditional love, many more humans would be lost in their lives! I enjoyed this book! Read it and be kind to those that do not deserve it!
