This is a chapter book featuring Anna and Elsa and is set after events in the film, “Frozen. It is the second book in what, I hope, will turn out to be a series. The first book was, “All Hail the Queen. In this book, Anna is worried at Elsa always telling her to be careful. Why are her childhood memories all so foggy? She can’t seem to remember anything at all about Elsa’s magic? Anna is determined to get to the bottom of the mystery and sets out to try to discover the truth about what happened when she was a child.

With 121 pages and ten chapters, this is a wonderful chapter book for Frozen fans. It is ideal for confident readers to read on their own, or to read aloud to a younger child. There are black and white illustrations and it is nice to have new stories, rather than just the film story being re-told. If you child enjoyed the part of the film where Elsa and Anna were little, they should enjoy this, as it features Anna and Elsa as children as well as grown princesses.

Memory and Magic is the second installment in the series of children's novellas titled Anna & Elsa, which, of course, is an extension of the Disney movie Frozen. In the Frozen universe, three years pass between Frozen and Frozen II with only the short movies Frozen Fever and Olaf's Frozen Adventure taking place in between, so it's fun for a Frozen fan like myself reading more adventures to find out more about some of what happened during those years. Memory and Magic is written by Erica David and illustrated by Bill Robinson, both returning from All Hail the Queen, the first novella of the series. Memory and Magic actually focuses on a rather important plot point that would have made a great story for a short movie or even a full-length movie, as it suddenly dawns on Anna that there are gaps in her childhood memories because she cannot remember Elsa's magic. This is a plot point carried over from the first movie, since near the beginning of Frozen, the troll Grand Pabbie uses magic to remove Anna's memories of Elsa's powers in order to protect her, but this is never resolved in the movie; once Anna (and the rest of Arendelle) becomes aware of Elsa's powers as an adult, it is never stated whether or not her actual memories ever come back, and Memory and Magic clarifies that they did not. Anna pursues help from a strange and eccentric troll named Brock who claims that he can restore Anna's childhood memories of Elsa's magic. I appreciate the fact that, as I said, the novella deals with an important plot point, but at the same time, there are aspects of it that I don't like as much. For starters, I would have liked to have seen more of Olaf. When Anna ventures to Brock's little cottage for his help, she goes with Elsa, Kristoff, and Sven, and Olaf's absence is not explained. I also don't really like how the major conflict of the novella isn't really resolved; it's sidetracked by a new conflict near the end of the novella, and David basically proceeds to swipe the major conflict under the rug, so the novella ends up feeling rather pointless. I do understand why she ended the novella the way that she did, but I would have liked a more satisfying resolution. (I know that I am being rather cryptic, but I am trying to explain why I didn't much like the ending without spoiling the ending which is a bit difficult.) With all of that being said, I certainly did not hate the novella; I am always happy to get more of these characters because I am a huge fan of Frozen, but I just would have liked more.

This is such a good follow-up series to the Frozen movie. In the first book, Elsa learns how to balance using her powers and utilizing other methods to help the villagers with their problems. In this one, Anna deals with having had her memories of her sister's magic removed when she was a child.

I think one of the things that really draws me to this series is that when you watch a movie, you usually still have so many questions you want answered after it ends. This series is a great way to find answers to some of those questions.

Well-written, I found this one especially funny. I really liked Brock and Kristoff's hilarious interactions.

As with the first book, it was a fun and entertaining story. Good easy read. I already picked up the third book in the series and can't wait to read it.

Magic is everywhere you look.

This was a really cute children's story building up after the events of the Frozen movie. Anna is in search of the memories that the elder troll hide from her as a child, but as the story unfolds she learns some important life lessons ab out her relationship with her sister and the both of them are stronger for it.

It's a fast paced story that builds well and I think would be handled well by those who read it, it's not toned down intellectually, and calls things by what they are instead of choosing smaller words. There is a little bit of humor to the relationship between Anna and Kristoph, but nothing that was in depth or that the kids would even notice.

I really liked this one and it's nice to see an intelligent story for kids who were fans of the movie (and the adults like myself who have a kid at heart.)

I’m reading through the first three books in this series as part of the read-aloud program I put together for my five year-old. She’s obsessed with the Frozen princesses and really enjoys these. These books are simple enough and the chapters are just the right length to be able to read about one chapter per day without losing her attention. The writing here is nothing incredible, but it’s entertaining enough for little ones and simple enough for them to understand.

One of the critiques I have is that the binding seems to be terrible on all of these books. I’m not sure if we got a bad batch, or if they’re just cheaply done, but ours keep having entire chapters fall out! They also have metallic accents on the covers which flakes off in little pieces sometimes. The writing itself is ok and the story is engaging; the quality of the physical book, however, is sub-par.

Okay, this is the best of the Frozen chapter books I've read so far. It has the most interesting premise and really builds off of the movie.
It's not totally canon compliant, which might bother some people more than me. I know that if I was a kid, I'd be a lot more bothered by the fact that Anna can't remember ever making the first Olaf with Elsa, despite introducing Olaf as being "just like the one [they] built as kids" and remembering his name and all. And that this book sort of implies that Anna's memories were removed to keep Elsa's secret instead of being part of curing her. But I don't particularly care about those little details. I think it would be BETTER if those things were followed, but it doesn't ruin the book for me.

The second instalment in this series of books. This book is more cohesive than the first one with a solid story that develops through the chapters. The topic of Anna's memories is interesting and I like the fact that the way that is treated here doesn't interfere with the canon from the movies. So, I hope they include this topic in the sequel as well.
I love the way the characters are in canon and the overall story and message are positive with a lot of sisterly love and friendship.
Without a doubt, a great reading for children.

A must read for all Frozen fans!

Memory and Magic is a chapter book series related to Disney’s Frozen movies. This book tells the story of Anna and her lost memories. Anna meets a troll that offers to help that leads to some silly encounters and a dangerous predicament on her quest to restore her memories.

This book was #2 in the series, but can be read as a stand alone book.

I read this with my daughter and she was fully engaged in this story and couldn’t wait to find out what happened in the next chapter each night. I plan to look for more books in this series to read with her.

I read this to my five year old over three or four bedtime reading sessions. I was surprised by how well the book blended both a story easy for small children to enjoy with grown up emotional concepts like loss and regret. Secretly hoping she will pick out more from this series.

Berry and Dad finished this one together so I had to finish it on my own. Luckily, it read quickly. While I was disappointed in the memory storyline, the adventure was fun, as was hearing some of the shenanigans the young sisters got up to.

I hadn't realized Anna's partial memorywipe was never addressed before this book. I wouldn't liked to see her more upset about Elsa keeping it from her, but I'll admit it's in character for her concern to flip so quickly from herself to her sister.

I enjoyed this a lot! I feel like it could almost be it’s own movie. Or at least a short. A very interesting story about Anna realizing her childhood memories of magic are missing. I previewed this book for my daughter. I’ll add her thoughts once she reads it.

Love of sisters

This was a really sweet book. Me and my kids read in about 3 nights. And it's all about Anna getting her memories but in the end it's all about the two sisters love. And it's a very sweet book

It was interesting, at least, but the problem with pre-existing IP is you’re pretty much stuck in a box as far as creativity goes. Even though the premise is cool and you get invested, ultimately, there can be resolution because sequel gotta sequel. Still, not too terrible a read.

This is totally a children's book, but I always wondered how Anna dealt with discovering that a good chunk of her childhood memory was just taken away! What a thing to discover! This simplifies it so it's accessible to children, but I was still totally into how she resolved it with Elsa.
