I’m really confused. From the synopsis, I thought this would be a sexy, short read about a Domme with issues that her hot neighbor helps her overcome. Instead, there is a two page intro to Marissa’s life as a Domme, and then she turns into this confused beeyotch who hates all men, has a really bad past, and starts taking it out on the three and five year old kids next door. So just when it started to feel like an emotional mess, I started to feel like I was at a redneck bachelor party. This woman sure knows trashy talk. And it’s not the man with the potty mouth, it’s the woman. F*** this and my p***y that and wet stuff all over the place. It’s fine if the story is meant to have the feel of dirty talking erotic banter. But matched up with the sweet little boys and the emerging maternal feelings of Marissa, it felt decidedly awkward.

I would have loved the story as a full length contemporary romance novel. The author could have elaborated on the lives of both Marissa and Dirk, given it a more personal feel, and cut out the raunch talk. Instead, I felt like I was jumping around from light erotica to sweet contemporary romance to deeply emotional chick lit. Any of them by themselves would have worked. Throw them all together, and it just felt confusing and messy. And I LIKE dirty talk. The sex scenes weren’t even that graphic, it just all seemed to come out of Marissa’s brain or mouth. But for one reason or another, it felt awkward and out of place, to the point of being inappropriate. Example: in the middle of a little hug and kiss, the three year old boy says that he want a kiss from Mari, too. So she gives him a snuggle, and it’s a wonderful moment when Daddy steps back and starts thinking about “decorating her with a pearl necklace. WHAT!? Talk about ruining the moment!

And the ending just ruined it for me. It was so unbelievable that I laughed. There were a couple of “that would never happen moments, like when the babysitter’s daughter is rushed to the hospital, so she brings the kids to the neighbor lady and just leaves them there. No permission from Dad, no knowledge of the lady, nothing. These situations just didn’t seem very well thought out. And I really think that with a little forethought and less shock factor, that this could have been a moving, touching romance.

Loved this one! Well written about a woman still trying to work out her life after her husband dumped her years ago. She's staid, uptight, has germ-phobia and a perfectly ordered life until the single father hero moves in next door - with his adorable and noisy little boys...

So this is the second story in a row that simply hasn't worked for me. And not just random stories, but things that should have worked. I don't know if I'm heading into a slump or it's just awful luck for this weekend, but whatever it is, I hope it straightens out PDQ.

Be forewarned, there WILL be spoilers and ranting.

So generally speaking, even if Eve Langlais books don't make my top favorites list, I can at least count on solid enjoyment. This is in fact the first book of hers that was completely wrong for me. It should have been right dang it. We have an uptight, germaphobe, white collar woman, and an earthy blue collar guy with two adorable plot-moppets to melt her icy facade. But this reprint should have stayed safely in the past.

From this point on there will be spoilers and rants, feel free to skip out, but if you haven't read anything by Eve Langlais, skip this book and try her Freakn' Shifters (ignore the horrible apostrophe usage) or Furry United Coalition (yes that does spell FUC). Both of them are full of humor, whimsy, and sexy times.

So, we start out meeting Marissa, the pro-Domme, in full regalia in a session. Except this isn't her kink, it's a job she does so she can punish men and vent her anger at all men over the horrible way her ex-husband treated her. So yeah, we have another BDSM practitioner doing it in lieu of therapy, a trope I quite despise. It actually gets worse though because her former therapist is the person who turned her onto it. So, yeah, that happened. And then she doesn't even own it, she's all conflicted over it. Enter the sexy redneck Dirk and his adorable plot moppets. I settle in thinking alright, this is working for me. I'm even getting into the mystery of Marissa's stalker. And I'm especially enjoying getting to know Dirk and seeing him as a person and his back story unfold. Then WHAM, another trope/comment I abhor. Marrisa refers to her pro-Domme activities as "...as bad as prostitution". Literally, WTF? First off, that's just an awfully denigrating way to think about or write about prostitutes. Considering prostitutes as " bad" is just not something I can condone. There's plenty of ways to think about prostitutes (and that's definitely a debate for another time), but that dismissive horrified line of thought is one that just pisses me the hell off. And secondly, if you aren't having sexual contact with a human being for money (which she wasn't), then it isn't prostitution. It's a service right up there with paying for massage, hair cuts, or spa services. Yes it's a little out of mainstream for the general population, but it still isn't sex for money. So she's going to quit because she's tired of it anyway, and her anger's all cured by the love and care from her redneck and his magical peen. That's a little bit of magical thinking, but I tend to accept it in romancelandia. Whatever, on with the story. So Dirk takes her to his parents house to be safe from the stalker. It's a farm, which makes for some fairly funny scenes. We get to find out plenty more about Dirk and his kids, and both he and Marissa really open up. The plot moppets' bio-mom even breezes in giving Dirk closure and forcing both of them to confront their feelings for each other, and then conveniently breezes right out with no real repercussions or consequences. So Dirk and Marissa head back to real life, and she's figured out her stalker is actually one of her now-former client's wife. She sets up one last appointment with the man to lure his wife in, and this part I actually did like, she talks the wife down and teaches her to dominate her husband as he likes to be dominated. Those two go home a happier and kinkier couple. Then Marissa finally confesses to Dirk that all her angst and anger came from the fact she had cervical cancer which resulted in a hysterectomy, and that her husband knocked someone else else up and left her. Yes, that's very miserable, but Dirk is a sweetie who explains she's not half a woman, she's the other half of his heart. They get married and our formerly very starched and buttoned up clean freak doesn't even freak over the handprints the plot moppets leave on her wedding dress. It's sweet.

Now, if that were the end of it, at least it would have been a high note. Still not a great or even good story, but a high note. But of course I wasn't that lucky, we then have the epilogue from hell. A year later they wake up and find a freaking baby on their doorstep. The plot moppets' bio-mom has popped out another kid and left it on their doorstep as a belated wedding present. WTF?!?! I guess someone must think that's a happy ending of massive wish fulfillment proportions. But personally, I just found it creepy and weird.

I think what frustrated me so much, is that there was the bones of a great story in there. And Dirk and his backstory were just excellent. He's one of my favorite heroes so far this year. I actually kind of even liked Marissa. But the story around them just completely irked the hell out of me. How on earth does an author even write characters I like in a story I can't stand? There's some sort of voodoo going on here, but I'm still giving this story 1 star.

This is the first book from Ms. Langlais that I didn't like, in fact I kinda hated it. The female lead, Marissa, is absolutely the worst. She's mean, nasty, angry, hateful, cold, snobby, pretentious and vile! A total witch. She goes into a year long depression over her being 'half a woman', her husband has enough, leaves her and she spends the next seven years enraged at all men and basically the rest of the world. Poor ex con moves in next door with his two kids and for some reason (maybe he's slow???) thinks she worth not only having in his life but in the lives of his kids. If I moved next to a person like this woman the only thing I'd do is build a taller fence! (And maybe pray for a winning lottery ticket so I could move again to get away from her.) I usually love books from Langlais so I'm really very disappointed. If it had been written by anyone else I would have stopped without finishing but I kept hoping that somehow Ms Langlais would find a way to redeem that nasty person...it didn't happen.

While this is so unlike any of Eve's books that I've read I'm think this may just end up being my favorite of hers. It's just an amazing love story that will make you smile, laugh and just fall in love with the cast of characters. So glad I won this book at IRC2015 so I had the pleasure of reading it. If you think Eve has no depth to her characters then you need to read this one. I loved it :)

This is one of Eve Langlais's earlier books and, honestly, it's not my favorite. Her trademark sassy heroine is more of an angry, icy princess. I didn't hate Marissa, but I didn't love her the way I've loved so many of Eve Langlais's other ladies.

That said, I did enjoy the book. It wasn't my favorite, but it had some fun moments. Mostly revolving around Dirk trying to play nice with his seemingly uptight neighbor. And the boys worming their way into Marissa's heart. And the stolen sexy moments. Who can resist a man who knows what he wants and straight up goes after it? Not Marissa, that's for sure.

I didn't love the ending, it was far too convenient for my tastes, but I did like seeing Marissa without all her towering anger and issues. While this book will never be my favorite in the EL stable, I did have fun while reading it. So, there you go.

A Kindle Unlimited rental, I like Ms. Langlais humor and I decided to give this a shot. It was a pretty quick and easy read, even if the title was a bit offputting. Marissa is pretty unlikeable and the turn for her almost came too late - but it did come. Eventually understanding why she’s so determined to make everyone hate her, I really started to root for her and Dirk to get together. Dirk’s made some mistakes that landed him in jail, but he’s a very likeable hero who’s turned his life around for his boys. Marissa’s pro-domme side job is a very small part of the book, and while it tied into the climax of the story, it was a bit unnecessary.

The Bottom Line
I liked the romance even if I’m not a fan of this title, and I’d recommend it.

He’s trying to go straight - she’s uses anger to cope - together they explode with passion in this heart-melting contemporary romance. This romance is different from other works by this author but as with the others captivates the reader and draws them in and ensures that they can’t put the book down until they have read the very last word. The book is serious, but enjoyable and entertaining and I especially liked the unique ending that makes this couple’s HEA a very special one indeed.

(Explícito). Hermoso. ...

I love Ms Langlais books but this one needs to be binned.
It was the biggest load of ridiculous I have ever read.
I double checked the cover a few times thinking I had picked up the wrong book. Nope. The heroine was unlikeable and switched characters so quickly I had whiplash.
I did like the hero.
The ending with the stalker was unbelievable, just give someone untrained the means to punish another person, wrong on so many fronts.
How cliche the end was having a baby left on the doorstep.
Sorry I wasted my time and evening reading this.

Eve Langlais is a phenomenal writer she writes the most amazing paranormal Romances. But I have to say with this contemporary Romance, she has struck gold.it is hot, sexy and even funny . I warn you though you will need tissues handy. There are a cople sad spot but the epilouge will give you happy tears. Eve is truly an artist, with putting words to paper. Now a little about the book, but not enough to ruin it for you. I hat spoilers so here ya go.

Swearing off men after her husband leaves her for another woman, Marissa turns to domination as a form of anger management. But she ends up punishing the wrong man and finds herself in danger someone wants her to stop being a domme. And then new niehbors move in and Dirk and Marisa do not Ste off on the right foot. But Dirk has his own issues. A run-in with the law, not to mention two little boys, have made Dirk see the light. But his Ice Princess, heats him up and he finds himself Kissining her.and when the finally come together it is amazing no one has ever made hr feel this way, not even her ex. But what warms her the most is little Avery and Mason.and even as the threats keep coming, she decides with Dirk she no longer needs to be a domme . But is it enough to stop the stalker? Dirk is determined to protect her, and keep he she's his now and no one is going to take her.

I really enjoyed this book, it's different for Eve Langlais as her books are usually on the paranormal side but it still had great humour, hot chemistry and a fast-paced plot! It had me hooked from start to finish.

I loved Dirk and his boys from the start, I'll admit it took a couple of chapters for me to warm up to Marissa at the start but that was the icy demeanour she erected around herself to protect herself from being hurt again, the more time spent with her character the more I liked her and felt for what she'd been through.

I was surprised by who it was who'd been threatening Marissa in the story, I thought it would be some shadowy group or something, but I like how it was all resolved. I especially loved the epilogue and the 'gift' that Dirk's ex left for them! I thought it was the perfect end to the book

You Will Fall For This Redneck and This Story

This review is from: Falling For A Redneck (Kindle Edition)
A touching, smexy, great contemporary romance by Eve Langlais.
An unlikely hero/ dad trying to make a fresh start for himself and his two adorable boys. A cold tough cookie dominatrix heroine with a heart that is just waiting for the right guy to melt it. I loved how these two polar opposites are exactly what each other needs only they just don't know it yet.
The story is heart warming, exciting with some suspense, some tears, lots of smiles, a very hot sexy redneck that is determined to find his way into his ice princess of a neighbor's heart and maybe seduce her on the way as well.

Not her usual light--hearted humorous book. This one has some serious issues. It's hard going at first: the heroine is so bitter and, honestly, bee-itchy that it's hard to read. Even after learning why she is the way she is and feeling sorry for her, her demeanor is so unpleasant that it's hard to feel like her. As she begins to warm up, the H and h's interactions - and the h's interactions with his sons - become more appealing. The last 60% of the book is sweeter.

But the issues are resolved too quickly and easily.

I'd rather EL stuck to her humorous books rather than trying to get too serious.

Great Read

What a awesome story you have two people from different backgrounds come together with that saying that opposites attract. The chemistry between Marissa and Dirk was smoking hot. I like the fact that Dirk didn't give up on her when she was being a total bitch but instead broke down all the barriers that she had around heart to get to know the real her. Marissa as well even with all her bitchiness she did take the opportunity to get to know the real Dirk and his boys and didn't judge him for all the things that he did in his past. Overall awesome story the redneck fell in love with his ice princess. The surprise at the end was priceless.

This was a great story with Marissa, the ice princess and Dirk, the redneck. Marissa's first impression of Dirk isn't the best, but he tries to redeem himself. One afternoon Dirk's babysitter has to leave and leaves his boys with Marissa. Dirk comes home and things start to change between Dirk and Marissa. Dirk is there for Marissa when she starts getting threatening notes. Dirk tells Marissa everything about his past and his boys love her. Marissa has to face her fears if she wants to have a relationship with Dirk. This is another really good story from Eve!

I hated this lol.

I hated her thoughts on being a domme, she shouldn’t have EVER been one. And I hated how her husband leaving was seen as some awful thing even though it also said that she basically turned into a completely different person that year after and it came across like she acted like he didn’t exist at all lol. I mean, shit that he moved on but I also didn’t hate him for it.

And then there was the epilogue. Lol. Burn it. It 100% is the worst part if the book and shouldn’t exist lol. So unrealistic. She could have easily put him as the father and sent adoption papers.

I almost read this from one sitting, because it's really a good story. I love the clash of the couple from the beginning and how the heroine get "thawed" out by the guy. Love the way that they accept each other's pasts and moved on to a brighter future. Wish I have a guy like that =). Wish that they put a lot more action on the story, though the emotional conflict is pretty much intense that you will not get bored throughout the story...

Great story!

Great story!

This is not at all what I expected from this author but it was great!! The characters were great. The storyline was original. The 'secrets' weren't too crazy. Everything was believable but still a great 'get away from reality' story. Excellent all and I definitely recommend it. I especially like the Epilogue. I probably would have felt cheated without it.

I enjoyed the story a lot. It was a short read so I guess I understand why the building of relationships wasn't given more detail . Romance books usually have the hero and the heroine falling in love within hours, so I’m used to that. But, in my opinion, a few more paragraphs would have made the story better. I enjoyed it anyways. Looking for authors to enjoy and Eve Langlais has been added to my list.

Hot and spicy

While different from the paranormal romances EL normally writes this story has all of the same elements. A sexy, hunk of man candy that is much more than a pretty face. A powerful female in charge of her destiny even if on the wrong track. An intriguing plot with surprises and dashes of humor. Hot and spicy sex scenes. I had no choice but to give give stars as I smiled from beginning to the end of this story.

I found it very funny. She was the ice princess and he was the Redneck LOL.

Once you found out why she was the way she was it was like tell him.

He would understand.

And once he basically figureed it out. He fought for them. DIdin't let her pull away from him.

And to get there happily ever after was was the nicest thing.

Eh, it wasn't bad. I liked the idea, but I didn't love the execution. I enjoyed it okay until the end, which was incredibly anticlimactic and rushed. I feel like there was way too much time spent on her problems & hang-ups and not enough time building the suspense. But olive I said, overall it wasn't bad.

This is the first book of Eve's that I haven't loved. I just couldn't connect to the heroine. The hero was okay, the little boys, Avery and Mason, were the highlight of the story, and Derk's mom, Ana.

Marissa was a little hard to like at first, but as she warmed up and we got to know her she became much more likeable. Dirk was hot and he didn't pull normal moves in response to Marissa's cold shoulder.

A wonderful, heartwarming and interesting story. An ice princess and an ex-con with two little boys are her new neighbors. Chaos, anger, intrigue, secrets and lots of lust make this book awesome. Loved it.
