Lessons in Love #2

Teach Me a Lesson

Rate this book
She’s my roommate and my best friend’s forbidden little sister. And now she wants me to teach her how to date.

Me. The himbo who’s messed with half the women in the city. The guy whose nuts her brother will feed to the squirrels if he finds out.

I should’ve said no. But it’s Mia—my Mia. She’s tired of being a wallflower, and I’m the perfect guy to give her advice.

I shouldn’t teach her how to kiss. We shouldn’t practice in my bed.

I shouldn’t know how many freckles she has on her stomach, or love the way she fits in my arms.

But what definitely shouldn’t happen? The dude she’s known her whole life—the one who was just supposed to help—should not want to spend the rest of his life doing it.

Mia’s brother might break my face, but Mia? She might break my heart.

A million thanks to author Ana Kirk Shaw for the opportunity to read this ARC 💕

I am in love! This book was sweet, so funny, and I've now added yet another MMC to my book boyfriend list 😍

Elias is such a cinnamon roll. The amount of support and loyalty he exhibits with Mia is positively swoon-worthy, and he's got quite the dirty mouth 🔥 And I loved seeing Mia's confidence grow throughout the story!

This book was written so well, and I really enjoyed the plot overall! Without a doubt, I'll be buying a physical copy 😊

Dedicated teacher Mia is roommates with and works at the same public school as her brother’s annoyingly hot lifelong best friend and himbo Elias. Things have been a bit awkward since Mia walked into their shared unlocked bathroom and saw a whole lot more of Elias than ever, and they’re about to get even more so with a shared work trip to the Big Easy.

While in NoLa, and despite being warned off doing so by Mia’s brother, Elias agrees to help Mia up her pick up game with “lessons that backfire spectacularly and deliciously. When did these two begin seeing each other in a decidedly not platonic manner? And how will Mia’s disapproving brother react?

I loved revisiting PS2 and its dedicated cadre of teachers. Mia and Elias were good for each other overall but some of the dramatics were a bit over the top, especially with her brother’s misguided protectiveness (she’s almost thirty, not an adolescent) and her mother’s insane dismissal of pretty much anything Mia does. I understand the need to get at the root of Mia’s why of it all, but those two in particular are supposed to love her yet they infantilize her in the most infuriating ways. What I did appreciate, however, were the ways Mia helped Elias claim his confidence with regard to helping others in a strictly altruistic way, and in kind, Elias helped Mia set healthier boundaries that honor her own needs.

I was generously furnished an advance reader copy from booksirens, and I’m pleased to share my honest review.

I haven’t laughed and cried then laughed again while crying while reading a book in a long time. The only thing that kept me from rating Teach Me A Lesson a complete five star is I felt Mia was a bit too pushy at the beginning of their situation and I feel like it could have progressed more naturally or have been a more mutual pining. I really enjoyed the subplot of the school curriculum. Another thing I didn’t particularly enjoy is how the parents were just happy in the end. Where was the conversation? It seemed a bit rushed. Other than that it was an amazing book and I can’t wait to read more by the author.

✨✨ARC REVIEW✨✨

4.5⭐️

Firstly, thank you Ana for this ARC!

Secondly, it is 2:45am I stayed up VERY much past my bedtime to finish this book. I finished it and out loud said, “that was so good i’m gonna throw up.

I thought I loved the first book in this series, and I do, but oh. my. god. I am obsessed. I loved Mia and Elias’s story. I know I already said it, but I’m obsessed with them. Spoiler alert: it lost half a star for the third act break up only because I don’t like them.

Teach Me A Lesson has:
💕 Brother’s Best Friend
💕 Childhood Friends to Lovers
🏠 Roommates
🏫 Co-Workers
💕 Forced-Prox &
🌶 Spice Lessons

This book was *chef’s kiss* immaculate. It featured one of my favorite tropes of all time ✨two idiots in love
Elias and Mia were always meant for each other, they just made sense. It only took them one (okay two) awkward encounter(s), and a forced shared hotel room for a work conference to realize it. He sees her for who she is, her brilliance, strength, ingenuity and fortitude. In turn she sees him for who he truly is, not some meathead that everyone perceives him to be, but the “exceptionally competent at life successful, industrious, and also brilliant in his own way, person that he is.

I may have just finished Teach Me A Lesson, but I kind of can’t wait to read it again. I wish I could read it again for the first time.

ARC Review.
Elias and Mia have been friends for years, along with her brother Leo. Mia is shy and unassuming, and Elias is confident, outgoing, and sought after. Everything Mia wants to be. Elias agrees to give Mia lessons on how to be more like him in the dating world. One thing leads to another.....

I seem to be in the minority here after reading other reviews, but I didn't love it. I found Mia's character increasingly annoying as the book went on, which made it difficult to root for them as a couple. There was no real substance to the plot, if I'm honest. There was too much inner monologuing which they could easily have spoken about, given they'd been best friends for their whole lives. There was plenty of spice. In fact, I'd go as far as to say their was more spice than plot.

The angry brother angle also felt a bit lacklustre. It would've been nice to see him surprise them by supporting their relationship. They're the two people he loves most in the world, and they have all been close since childhood. Why would you not support them and be happy for them?

All in all, it was an ok read to pass a few hours, but I probably won't read any further books in the series.

I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.

First and foremost if you loved reading ‘Beyond The Bell by Ana Kirk Shaw then you will definitely fall in love with her new book called Teach Me A Lesson! 📖Let me just say this new read was such a play on words, Georgia and Oliver you had my heart ❣️you did, but my heart is given to someone else!

My new favorite couple by the author follows Mia and Elias! Omg the spice fair warning was 🥵 having me clenching my jaw and blushing like release and hold my sacred thoughts! Mia and Elias' relationship build up was so to die for. Elias is so sweet, loyal and downright exhibits the kindness that I like, and oh let me introduce you to Mia. No wonder Mia her growth, resilience and confidence has Elias blushing and in love, but also im in love with Elias off the switch way of words, if you know what I mean 🤭!

Overall, I would love to say that this book was written well, and the plot has me in love! Also, I want to say thank you to the lovely author Ana Kirk Shaw for her dedication to highlighting in her stories and just in general representation of teachers and the education system and the problem and resolutions within and the hard workers within the system!! Thank you! 🥰

📚 Lessons in Love is out now! It is the second novel in her Lessons in Love series! Lessons in Love highlights actions speaks louder than words, and growth within and you shouldnt let anything define who and what you are now! Thank you our lovely author as well for always highlighting representation without our school system and education system and highlighting teachers and the DOE , thank you to all for your hard work . This read and series is perfect! Check it out ! 😉

Another swoon-worthy romance from Ana Kirk Shaw! Teach Me a Lesson had everything I love in a romance—authentic writing, characters you can’t help but root for, and just the right balance of (sexual) tension and spice.

The story follows Mia and Elias, best friends since childhood who now live and work together as teachers. When Mia asks Elias to help her gain confidence and learn how to attract a man, their dynamic shifts in ways neither of them expected. What starts as a seemingly harmless arrangement quickly blurs the lines between friendship and something much more intense.

One of the standout elements of this book is how genuine and realistic the writing feels—something Ana Kirk Shaw consistently excels at. Mia’s character development is beautifully done. I loved reading her development as she gains her confidence. And, of course, the chemistry between Mia and Elias is off the charts. The spice scenes are steamy and well-written—definitely not a book you want to read at work!

Overall, Teach Me a Lesson is a must-read for romance lovers, especially those who enjoy the friends-to-lovers trope with plenty of heat. If you’re looking for a book that will make you fall in love with its characters while delivering all the right emotional and romantic beats, this one won’t disappoint.

I loved the first book in this series so my expectation for Teach Me A Lesson is high and boy did it not disappoint. I devoured this book from beginning to end and seriously was not able to put it down. This has all my favorite tropes - teach me, bestfriend's sister, childhood friends to friends with benefits to lovers. It is so beautifully written - this book is spiiiiiicy but it has so much heart and angst. Elias and Mia are both amazing MCs. They are each other's biggest supporter and hype person. It was envitable for them to fall in love and I appreciate their journey to get to that level. They are so comfortable with each other that it was hard for them to realized they've loved each other for years. Dont even get me started with all the flashbacks from their childhood where Elias have always stood up for Mia. I can't stand Mia's family but so happy when Elias and Mia put them in their place especially with Leo. The contrast between Mia and Elias parents are so stark. Love the side characters and super curious who will be on the next book.

The only bad thing about this book is it had to end and I wanted more Elias and Mia. Such a great romance read! I highly recommend! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Thank you Ana for the advance copy. I appreciate you sending it my way. I'm buying the paperbacks for both books. Love to display this on my trophy bookshelf.

Just a disclaimer I did DNF this book at 52%

Let me start by saying I genuinely enjoyed this book in the beginning. I enjoyed the dynamic of the main characters (although they mention they see each other as chosen siblings way too many times for my liking) It was starting off strong. I knew it was too good to be true and was proven right when shit started going downhill, fast.

I initially picked this book up from a reddit recc. I was honestly craving the “teach me how to seduce and flirt, i’m a dork and you’re a playboy we could help each other out trope, so when this was recommended I was so excited. My excitement was soon extinguished because the trope was NOWHERE to be seen. 😔

I felt as if they skipped the whole teaching each other part and went straight to hooking up, and being all cuddly. To be fair they were away at the conference and decided until they got back home (to reality) they can fool around blah blah blah. The problem is we still haven’t seen the trope THATS LITERALLY IN THE TITLE OF THE BOOK.

Also hated the smut scenes (that reddit recommendation needs to be banned from recommending) It was cringe, although that can be just a personal subjective opinion. I forgot to mention the amount of times they jerk off to each other. My god not every interaction has to be so sexual. Now don’t get me wrong i love a good smutty romance, but time and place people.

Anyways this long ass review is probably due to the fact that this was the third book in a row that I read recently that flunked my expectations, now i’m irritated and annoyed.

I’m sure this book is suitable for somebody else, so i hope this review doesn’t deter you if anything i said doesn’t seem like a problem to you.

TBH, I was hesitant to read this one. My favourite romantic trope in novels is “enemies to lovers. I love the tension and the grovelling that comes with those types of books. So colour me surprised when I found out that this book, with a “friends to lovers storyline, has the tension and grovelling I love to read in romances.

Mia and Elias were such a great couple to follow. Their chemistry was amazing and the spicy scenes were a SPICING.

Overall, a very easy and enjoyable read that turned me onto the “friends to lovers genre.

No entiendo cómo Mia pudo perdonarlo tan fácilmente.

**SPOILER FREE ARC REVIEW**

I do love me some brother’s best friend romance; to make it even better they’re roommates! I really enjoyed the tension filled and humorous tone throughout Elias and Mia’s story.

One thing I want to see more of in this trope specifically is more supportive brothers. I get it you’ve made a vow to protect your sister and maybe your best friend doesn’t have a great history, but a change from the typical cliché would be nice once in a while.

Okay so this may have been one of the spiciest books I have read in a while. Should I, a teacher, have been reading this book about my brother’s best friend/ my biggest protector growing up/ current roommate during the last week of school? Yeah probably not. The entire plot line about scripted curriculum just hit WAY TO CLOSE TO HOME! Anyways I loved this Lax Bro Captain America. Where do I find one?

This was a highly anticipated read for me and boy did it deliver! Spicy lessons is one of my favorite tropes AND it has brothers best friend with forced proximity?! I was sold immediately before even reading the blurb! This book was heartfelt and sexy, the characters both had incredible development and to watch the realization of their love for each other develop was so sweet 🥺🥰

Overall I loved this book, I gave it 3.5 stars because for me, there was a lack of plot for me. Yes it was spicy and yes I loved that about it but I need a little more than just spice to keep me engaged and you all know that I hate a third act breakup and I hate it even more when it’s over something avoidable

Thank you, BookSirens and Ana, for the e-ARC❤️

I did enjoy this book, but I couldn't connect with the characters. Mia is 29 and Elias is 32, yet often they behaved like 20-year-olds, which made the story kind of messy and predictable. There was a lot of prejudice, conflicts, and immaturity, which made me lose interest.

A big thank-you to Ana Kirk Shaw for giving me an opportunity to read this ARC! When I read the blurb for this book, Teach Me A Lesson by Ana Kirk Shaw, I knew that I had found a kindred spirit in the female lead, Mia. A teacher by profession, she’s introverted and underconfident when it comes to flirting. Enter Elias, the male lead, and a PE teacher in the same school as Mia’s, called PS 2. He also happens to be her older brother Leo’s best friend, their childhood friend and companion, her work colleague AND her roommate. Elias and Mia get along like a house on fire, and have chemistry enough to literally set a house (or at least the bed wink wink) on fire.

Mia is the do-gooder of the family. After a particularly awkward attempt at flirting with an attractive man in a bar, she enlists Elias help to learn how to flirt with and become more confident with men. She is sick of being single, and wants him to help her harness some ‘Hot Girl energy as an attractive woman living in New York.

Elias is the proverbial good/bad boy a good person in general, and a bad boy when it comes to women. In the book, Elias is repeatedly called a ‘himbo, or a sexually attractive but unintelligent man🙄- a definition that he has a massive problem with, because Elias also successfully runs a gym and works as a personal trainer. Mia is his biggest cheerleader and always encourages him to keep going. He works two jobs and makes good money, and she is proud of him. She designs special education plans for the children she teaches, uses her own money to buy school supplies when the conservative administration doesn’t approve, and he is proud of her.

Mia’s parents don’t have such an optimistic view of the two of them. As Mia’s older brother Leo is a successful person (he works in finance I think? Didn’t really care about him), Mia’s parents look down upon Mia for being a lowly grade school teacher. They’ve basically belittled and dismissed her her entire life, which is what makes her underconfident. Elias is written off as a himbo and while he hates that definition, he doesn’t know what to do to change it. The contrast between Mia’s judge-ey family and Elias’s supportive family also makes for great reading.

Mia and Elias work together to overcome their shortcomings, and help each other to the best of their abilities he helps her get sexy, she helps him with a structured PE plan. As these tales of fated love usually go, sparks fly between them during a harmless weekend work trip to New Orleans. Lessons in love lead to real love.

I enjoyed the freshness of the story and how quickly it flowed. I liked and could identify with Mia’s character, and I enjoyed Elias confidence, and his angst. It made for great reading to see the male lead overcoming his reluctance and really giving in to falling in love. His inner monologues made me chuckle with delight. I appreciated Mia working on herself to become more confident with time, and by the end of the book, truly believing in herself and the good things she brings to the table, despite what her parents say.

Ana Kirk Shaw has written about Mia and Elias’s relationship with great insight into what they’re thinking and feeling at each step of their equation with each other. When you read this book, you feel that both characters are your friends, or people you know well, and you’re reading an account of how they slowly fell for each other. They remain friends throughout, respecting each other’s space, and accepting each other fully.

The spice level of the book was pretty incredible too! 3 chillies oops! I meant cheers for Mia and Elias!🌶️🌶️🌶 The sexy scenes were very well-written with enough detailing and interactions to make it seem realistic, yet exciting to read.

All in all, a great read. A classic love, for the modern times.

Teach Me a Lesson is my first read by author Ana Kirk Shaw and I have to say, lesson learned. What lesson? That I need more of this author in my life!

While the author does recommend reading book #1 before this one, it is not required. Ever wonder if that's true? Here, I am so glad it is because I jumped in head first with Mia and Elias with zero regrets. That being said, I will certainly be grabbing a copy of book #1, because this one hit my happy reading places over, and over again. Oh. And over.

Friends to lovers and brothers best friend are two of my favorite ways to fall in love, and in bed. The longing, the bits of angst, the delicious build up. Shuffle in some forced proximity (I mean, roomies?! A trip with just one room?) and tension for days with long subway rides, and maybe the most touchy feely man I've ever read? Say less. No wait, say more. Much more!

This book had me at the prologue, the heat rolling off the page with one simple scene. I also really appreciated that you, somehow, easily get to know this couple and feel as if you've know them forever. With every sizzling encounter, nowhere did you lose the essence of how they knew each other, how long, how close, and how deeply their affection actually went. Even if they didn't seem to realize until it was almost too late.

We had a good chunk of personal growth for both characters, and an endless amount of banter that I absolutely loved. The only reason this wasn't a full on 5 star was the over use of some phrases that left me groaning when they would grace the page again. Himbo. Big D!ck. How hot anyone/thing/action is. To name a couple. With the descriptive talents this author has, it felt so out of place to see these things repeated within the same few lines. However, this did not take away from the plot or the spice in the least. Do we get the brothers story, next? Lets go!

As I said, I am looking forward to snagging the first book and tinkering around with this authors backlist. A fantastic addition to my new to me favorites!

Thank you to BookSirens, and Ana Kirk Shaw, for this eArc of Teach Me a Lesson. I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.

This book. I thought it sounded like it might be cute so I picked it up. But damn, it’s so much more than just a few hours of diversion.

I’ve never read anything by Ana Kirk Shaw, but I am now a dedicated fan. She managed to take a well used trope and emblems it with so much humor and joy and realism. Mia and Elias have known one another their whole lives and they are happily living and working together. But neither has realized all the love and passion they have deep inside for one another. Or at least not until Mia decides she’s tired of being overlooked and asks Elias for lessons on becoming a man eater to rival his himbo status. Slowly but surely these two discover that what they thought was a good friendship is so much more. Maybe it always has been.

The author does an incredible job of creating realistic characters and you feel a real connection to Mia and Elias. Their relationship really elevates the book and makes their story so much more interesting. And I would be remiss if I didn’t mention the utterly scorching chemistry that Mia and Elias share. Wow. I think this has to be one of the hottest, sexiest books I’ve ever read. The pages practically light on fire when they get together.

But there is so much more to the book. The characters are just so richly drawn and, while their relationship takes center stage, there is a full and interesting world around them. You get to see the passion Mia has for teaching (as well as the struggles she endures) and the way Elias slowly comes into his own as a successful business owner.

I don’t typically write such long winded reviews, but obviously I was extremely impressed by this book. I absolutely recommend reading it and I’m going to pick up the first book in the series, “Beyond The Bell, as soon as I finish typing this review. Grab this book now!

A lifelong friend's romance (3.5*) reveals the beautiful truth that happiness may be closer than we think. Mia, a dedicated teacher passionate about her work, has found herself in a romantic rut. Seeking guidance from her friend and roommate on how to be more confident and flirtatious could be the breakthrough she needs—unless it backfires spectacularly. Elias, a charismatic gym teacher and owner of a small gym, is no stranger to fleeting flings. However, when his best friend’s little sister—the woman he once saw as just a kid—asks for tips on attracting men, he suddenly realizes that she has blossomed into the ideal partner he's been searching for. As temptation simmers between them, the decision to give in becomes inevitable. What begins as innocent flirtation quickly transforms into an intense desire that neither can resist. But will Mia's newfound confidence be enough to hold their relationship together, or will Elias's insecurities threaten to unravel their potential?
This book introduced me to a remarkable new author. I thoroughly enjoyed the depth of the characters and the richness of their friendship, particularly the treasured memories they share. The steamy scenes—perhaps a touch excessive—highlighted the undeniable chemistry between the protagonists, although they occasionally overshadowed other important elements of the story - Mia's struggle with feeling like a secondary choice to her brother and Elias’s business aspirations being considered a “side gig. His grand gesture regarding the school curriculum deserved recognition but was sadly overlooked and even though Mia exhibited newfound confidence, certain aspects still felt slightly underdeveloped. Overall, this was an engaging read, and I’m excited about the prospect of exploring more works from this author. I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.

Firstly i want to thank for choosing me to be a part of her ARC team. And now let get to the review.
To start off this book is really spicy it has a lot of scenes. Personally i really liked the book and how it shows both the beautiful side and the struggles of being a teacher. If you love to read books about gaining confidence and i would say a book where some characters realize their mistakes and start changing for the better then this book is for you. Also i loved how this books shows how underrated the power of the teachers is and how much strenght and skills thez have to have to be good at their jobs. This book showed me how someone can appear confident outside but inside they are insecure and full of all the critics they get. I love how Mia and Ellias in this book give eachother the confidence they need and lift eachother from the depths thez fell in. Mia and Ellias have such an amazing dynamic and i really love them they are so cute and so obsessed with eachother. Mia thinks she is always the second choice but to Ellias she was always the first. Everyone tells Ellias that his gym is just a hobby but to Mia his gym is a business and not a hobby. Mia and Ellias are to me really strong characters because they never gave up on their dreams even though they kept being put down by some of their closest friends and family. They found strenght in eachother and that's what kept them going. I would say this book has a lot to say and to teach you. So i would recommend it from the heart.

And how handsome he was. “𝗙𝘂𝗰 𝘁𝗵𝗮𝘁, 𝘀𝗵𝗲 𝘀𝗮𝘆𝘀. “𝗬𝗼𝘂’𝗿 𝗵𝗼𝘁, 𝗰𝗵𝗮𝗿𝗺𝗶𝗻𝗴, 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗶𝗿𝗿𝗲𝘀𝗶𝘀𝘁𝗶𝗯𝗹𝗲. Once the spice started it kept going and I am not mad about it at all. This book was everything I could have wanted. Definitely my favorite from the series so far.

“𝗜’ 𝗿𝗲𝗮𝗱𝘆 𝘁𝗼 𝗱𝗿𝗮𝗴 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝗵𝗼𝗺𝗲 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝘀𝗵𝗼𝘄 𝗺𝘆 𝗴𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗶𝘁𝘂𝗱𝗲 𝗶𝗻 𝗮 𝗱𝗶𝗳𝗳𝗲𝗿𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝘄𝗮𝘆.
