This started out interesting, but it slowly evolves into a unicorn barf, never-ending cheesy lines and a cringefest. Truly the worst vampire story I’ve read.

I really enjoyed the first of this book, with the soft spoken Jesse and his adoption into a werewolf pack. He was very loveable. The pack dynamics were interesting and the book was funny. But the romance between Jesse and Barrett seemed a bit lackluster. Like, you get that they’re interested in each other and admire certain qualities, but I felt like I still barely knew Barrett at the end of the book.

Spice: 1.5/5

Triggers: knife attack, blood, black magic ritual (historical), starvation, parent/child estrangement

I liked it. It's honestly a cute and fun story and I like how other characters from Ross and the unholy trifecta make a cameo.

Adopt a Vampire was an incredibly fun read and fit seamlessly into the Ross and the unholy trifecta worlds. The chemistry between Jesse and Barrett is off the charts, and they make fantastic main characters. Their dynamic is engaging, full of witty banter and heartfelt moments, which makes it easy to root for them throughout the story.

One of the things I love most about AJ Sherwood's books is how she masterfully balances humor with emotional depth, and Adopt a Vampire delivers on both fronts. There were plenty of laugh-out-loud moments that had me grinning from ear to ear, and the shenanigans between the side characters added an extra layer of charm and excitement to the book.

The side characters are quirky, endearing, and provide just the right amount of chaos, making the world feel rich and immersive. Their antics not only provide comic relief but also enhance the story in ways that are both entertaining and heartwarming.

Overall, Adopt a Vampire was a delightful, fast-paced read that checked all the boxes for me: humor, romance, and a bit of supernatural fun. It was a very enjoyable and satisfying read that I would highly recommend to anyone who enjoys Sherwood's unique style.

This was a light, fun fluffy read which I desperately needed as my last 2 books were dark and depressing. I loved the MC's, enjoyed the story, and the cameos of characters from the Ross books. It was a quick read that made me smile - exactly what I was looking for.

I know just yesterday I enjoyed a very slice of life book but it was an entirely different kind to this one. This was so cheesy, cracky and lacking in substance that it was a chore to read. Nothing happened. Everything was just so soft and sweet and touchy-feely that I was hanging out for angst and conflict and people who were just a little grumpy and with a personality not stuck permanently on “shiny happy.

My own fault really, I knew going in it was going to lack substance. I’ve read enough AJ Sherwood that I really should know better and yet I mistakenly went in with the hope of decent chemistry (there was none), well fleshed out characters (eh) and something resembling trouble (because lone vampire).

Also somehow this made Ross annoying? And I remember enjoying his series.

Eh...

I guess this whole story rates an eh from me.

Lost and alone vamp meets a wolf pack who takes him in. A hot shifter/vamp romance should've been an instant love for me but I ended up ghosting after the first date.

I am so disappointed. I was hoping this would be more like the humor from Ross or Jon, or even Bel but alas I didn't get any of that.

The trying to be funny was there but for some reason did not hit the mark for me.

Is this a bad book?

No its fine. But it is a Sherwood story and I guess I wanted more.

I don't know if its because of the so many different names and genres being written now, but that something special has been missing from more recent titles.

DNF @ 80%, with the plot twist, sucking all tension out of the plot —not that there was much tension there before All very humdrum and I’m not interested in reading more of this “feel good novel.

I liked the other books by this author that I had read, but this one was a big “miss for me

"What about this? It's warmer."
"Uh, no."
"He's gay," Marissa explained to Anthony seriously. "He won't wear it."
"Marissa, it's not because I'm gay. It's because I have eyes."

Okay this was a funny cute read.
I especially loved the very healthy relationship they had.

The world building is scant, so you really need to have read the other books this is a crossover from. I read the Ross ones a long time ago but didn't remember any of the world building, and as a result I found this "Patreon original" to be quite unsatisfying. This author gives me so many reasons to avoid Patreon. Maybe it's just her, because the Louisa Masters book I just read was a Patreon serial, and I thought that was quite good. I wouldn't have wanted to read weekly installments for a year though, so it's just as well I avoid the platform.

Adopt a Vampire this is the story of Jesse a new vampire and Barrett the alpha of the Walker werewolf pack. I love how Jesse a vampire was adopted by a werewolf pack and how easy it was for him to fit in. These two are just so sweet together. The pack are really fun also. I loved that this was a crossover with Ross and the unholy trifecta series. This is just another wonderful story by AJ Sherwood. I would definitely recommend this book as a 5 star read.

It was sweet. Found family, protective instincts triggered. Nice to see Ross again, although I'm not sure about Widow's appearance. Felt a bit strange. One murder attempt and a bossy vamp leader, but other than that, fluff.

Warnings: Typical Werewolf/Vampire Violence

Main Character Information:
Barrett: Barrett, Alpha Werewolf from the Walker Pack
Jesse: lone Vampire, turned 6 years ago

Cesar hung up and pocketed the phone, giving me a sideways look. “Don’t we have to feed you first? I stretched my mouth out in a simulacrum of a grin. “Don’t worry. I don’t snack on people. - Jesse

My Ratings:
Spice: 1/5
Angst/Stress: 1/5
Fluff: 2.5/5
Structure/Format/Flow: 4/5
Overall: 5/5

Have you ever met someone and wanted to buy them a taser for their bathtub? - Jesse

Intimate Moments Include:

Stuff I Want To Mention:
1st Person, Single POV (Jesse).
Feelings and thoughts in less than 15 words: Funny, Goofy, OTT, Adorable, Vampire & Werewolf, Coconut Water is NOT Blood.
This, to me, is not a book you are supposed to take seriously. It is goofy and funny. The characters are fun (unless you’re Oscar the Grouch and his clan). It doesn’t really feel like a romance. I found myself confused multiple times but that’s fine because I was just vibing the whole time. The coconut water and dog shelter killed me. Jesse is just too sweet and polite LOL. I was smiling most of the time I was reading. Most spice was behind closed doors or fade to black, but like I said, that is not the main point of this book. What is the main point?... I don’t know but I know it’s not that.

”Jesse, I hate to say it, but you’re going to have to be the voice of reason here. Do not, I repeat, DO NOT let the werewolves go into the shelter without you. They will adopt all the dogs if there’s no voice of reason to rein them in. - Ross

It can be safely assumed all of my reviews are from books that are 1st Person, have a HEA, and have no intimate or spicy scenes with anyone/thing other than MC(s). I try to rate books objectively if they have something I don’t typically like (i.e. Break Ups, SA, 3rd Person, Single POV, Sharing Partners). If it’s still written well the author deserves the praise but I will make note to avoid for myself in the future. I do my best to mark different triggers/warnings as well as the intimate acts performed in case anything listed/done might not be something you would want to read. If M/M, Age Play, Interspecies, Insta Love, Erotica, MPreg, or Incest are something you actively avoid, you are probably better off avoiding most of the books I review.

DNF: Something off, couldn’t finish because of it. Maybe me, maybe the book.
1 Star: Just.. Just no, thanks. Do not recommend it. Need mind eraser.
2 Stars: Oh that was something but it was not something for me.
3 Stars: Decent, enjoyed enough. Hit marks it was supposed to. Might recommend.
4 Stars: Really enjoyed it, better than I though it would be. Would recommend.
5 Stars: I can see myself reading this again. Thoroughly enjoyed. Would recommend.

When you have too many books to choose from, naturally, you pick a novella that just came out today. Here's AJ Sherwood's "Adopt a Vampire."

["Newly turned vampire Jesse Hunt has been spotted by two werewolves! Should

-Run
-Fight
-Ask for noms

Barrett Walker, alpha of the local pack, has two options upon meeting the starving but sweet Jesse! Should

-Hand him over to the local vampire clan
-Adopt him

Barrett’s in favor of adoption but can adoption include smexy bite bite times too?"]

And the official tags (because they're the freaking best): ["Who’s on ship building duty this time?, Coconut water is banned, eating shouldn’t be this complicated, Jesse(dot)exe is constantly crashing, werewolves court differently than vampires, who knew, Unholy Trifecta crossover, Ross crossover, Cinnamon rolls deserve all the love, Hacker besties, Full moon shenanigans, Found family for the win, Pillow gifts make me squeeee"]

How the hell is everything that AJ writes so fucking awesome!? And soooo crack-y!?!? The short-stories especially. So unique and fun and off-the wall lore (grounded in popular lore). Quirky characters and unpredictable plot and the inevitable romance/HEA.

And I looooved Barrett and Jesse. They were adorable and snarky and meant to be. They had just a meet...awkward. Then a meet-cute. Then a meet-almost-death (don't worry, like Barrett would like Jesse die). And the inevitable family interference (you thought I'd say romance/HEA again, didn't you? ;) ).

Also, looooove all of the crossovers from Ross and clan!! Miss them!! And I had thought I read the Unholy Trifecta series, especially meeting them again in here, but apparently I didn’t (and while reading I kept seeing them, but maybe I had mentally fused the characters from the Villainy series (also kiss they hell out for them) with these characters).

Various quotes I highlighted (because they're amusing as hell, and you need a good laugh, too):
*"Honey bunches of nope" -Jesse
*"It's like that t-shirt. You have to show me the candy first, then I get into the van. I'm not stupid." -Jesse
*"I'll pencil that in. How does never sound?" -Barrett
*”Being in the sun too long is ouchy. -Jesse

a fun read

This was a light read. Only negative was that it brought in names from other books and thankfully I had read the books with the thief, assassin and the hacker, so when the names were name dropped in this book and Widow popped in, I knew who they were, but if I didn’t that entire aspect of this story would have been confusing as hell.

There was very little angst in this book and it was exactly what I was looking for. I didn’t need a book with stupid drama I wanted something that was gonna be easy.

There were no surprises in this book it read similar to many of her other books that I’ve read and it pretty much followed along with the title “adopt a vampire that was the plot and that was the story it’s almost like following along with a vampire and how his life unfolds after he is adopted by a werewolf pack.

The author insured that everything was tied up in this cutesy little bow. For the most part I don’t typically like books that are cutesy, ones that are sweet and enduring, yes, but cutesy no, but I have to say I enjoyed reading this book.

Another plus, if you were looking for a book that will make you chuckle and has less smut, this is a good book to read.

There was a lot of potential with how this started. The writing was clinical in a detached way, which worked at first for our vampire lawyer. This didn’t work unfortunately in terms of trying to kickstart a romance. I liked the touches and emotional support Barrett provided, but romantic interest seemed tacked on.

The worst part here is that after starting slow with a werewolf pack and a misstep by the vampire clan, we soon got introduced to a million different supes and the MC’s role became redundant. After supposedly being highly useful as a lawyer, he didn’t really do much for the pack outside of mediating a sibling dispute. He also didn’t seem that unusual for joining a werewolf pack since the Salem one was already full of misfits.

Don’t even get me started on the one phone call needed to track down Huxley (since Glenn and Ross apparently know everybody). The ‘I’m your father now bits really didn’t work.

"Adopt a Vampire" received TWO AMD A HALF stars.

The novel gained *stars* for these items:

Meh. Jesse’s personality seemed to change as soon as he and Barrett got together. I lost interest in the story after that. It was worse when the guests started arriving. By 80% I was skimming the pages.

* gained for: "The book caught my interest in the first five pages."

1/2 * gained for: "I thought about the bookwhen I was forced to set it down and re-enter society."

* gained for: "There were no info dumps, poor writing, or copy edit mistakes that jerked me out of the story."

The novel failed to gain stars for this item:

NO STAR gained for: "I was sad when the book ended. I wanted more!"

NO STAR gained for: "That's it. I'm hooked on this author. I will automatically try anything she/he/they writes."

An cute fun romp!

Touch-starved vampire is adopted by touchy-feely wolf and his family.

Quote
“Look, Jesse. Werewolves are very, very tactile. If you haven’t figured it out yet, we have no concept of personal space. And when you say things like that, it makes us just want to hug you for a few hours. “Hmmm. I pretended to consider this. “Be hugged by nice-looking people. Wow, not sure if I can survive it. He might have snorted a laugh before throwing an arm around my shoulders and snagging me, hauling me into his chest for a hug. It was an awkward angle, with us both in the chairs, but I went with it. Earlier was the first time I’d been hugged in, well, years. And now I was getting another? Go, me! I’d been starving for touch as much as food, to be honest, and Barrett smelled fantastic. p. 63

Jesse was turned into a vampire 6 years ago when he was kidnapped by witches and the vampire they were also holding captive convinced him it was the only way to get free. And it worked, but then he was abandoned.

Jesse moved to a new city. He refused to feed off humans because he was afraid of hurting them. So he has been existing on coconut water. He randomly runs into a couple werewolves while leaving work. The first supes he has encounter since he was turned.

They take him back to their alpha, Barrett. When Barrett calls
The local vampire clan, they send someone who immediately tries to kill Jesse. So Barrett nurses him back to health, gets him to start feeding off humans and invites him to live with their pack.

It was sweet, it was cute and I appreciated the cameos... and the pound story still makes me laugh. But, maybe it could have been better a bit longer I think...? idk. I just feel like there was so much unexplored potential in this one. for example why mention the criminal 4.5 and even fly in widow only to do nothing with her? To be honest it would have been so epic if the phone had rung JUST when they talked about K, all creepy like and suspicious. Or if powerplay by Oscar where he held an object of importance hostage and widows kind would have shown up all murder/death/kill like. You know? Also them getting together was quite abrupt as even THEY didn't know they liked each other or about each others feeling up till this point. So, yeah I liked it, a lot due to sentimental reasons.

This book was a cute, quick read that pulled me in right from the start.

Jesse was an adorable lone vampire, Barrett was a soft-hearted, caring werewolf, and Oscar was a grade-A schmuck.

I was actually grateful for the fade-to-black steamy scenes, but I did wish there had been at least *some* explanation as to why Oscar's minion did what he tried to do to Jesse.

3.75 stars.

I didn't realize this was set in Ross' world but a different pack.
Jesse is a newly turned vampire who has been living alone when he is spotted by 2 wolves from a nearby pack. They offer for him to meet the Alpha and then the Alpha extends an invitation for him to stay until he gets settled with a clan.
Jesse has been only drinking coconut water and won't take blood but the pack start to feed him and he soon starts to recover.
As time goes on, he and the Alpha get into a relationship and when there is disputes about local land, the Alpha calls Ross to come and help them out.
Not alot of lol moments as I usually find with Sherwood's work but this was good and loved the wolves and the pound.

More crazy shenanigans from the fabulous AJ Sherwood. This is a fun short story set in, but apart from, the 'Ross' world. You can read it without having read Ross's book, but it's even more fun if you do. Jesse is a vampire without a clan, living quietly on his own and surviving on raw meat and coconut water - not good! But, then he meets a couple of werewolves and the next thing he know is, he's been adopted by the pack. This book is laugh out loud funny, with crazy werewolf shenanigans, nasty vampires, good witches and found family. I would honest love to live in the mind of AJ Sherwood, if only for a day.

Jesse is a newly turned vampire (of 6 years) who is slowly starving sustaining himself on coconut water exclusively as he never learned how to be a proper vampire. In a town he's been living in for few years other supernaturals start moving in, including a pack of werewolves who catch sight of him and initially consider him a rogue. The missunderstanding doesn't last long and the wolves decide to help Jesse conect with other vampires (big mistake) and regain his health. Alpha Barrett is particularly worried about him. It's a low angst, cute little story with lovable crew of characters. Perfect for a lazy afternoon.

4.5/5 This was a cute spin-off novella from the Ross world. Jesse and Barrett and the pack are all lots of fun. I really felt for Jesse and his concerns about feeding from people. I loved how the pack stepped in and got things sorted for him. And I enjoyed the Remi cameo. It was lovely having a large, supportive group who takes care of one another. (With the exception of certain vampires clans that are jerks, lol, this is a friendly, supportive world, and that’s really nice to see.) Definitely a good thing when Jesse got found by the pack!
