A Guide to Bantering with Your Boss

Rate this book
Isaac Warner is the tyrant of the finance department, notorious for his uncompromising perfectionism and blatant disregard for what anyone thinks about him. He’s brilliant, unfairly blessed with top-tier looks, and is also my boss. Or at least he was, until I quit today.

It’s not that I can’t handle Isaac’s icy attitude or his reputation as the office overlord. Nor do I mind serving as the go-between for him and the rest of the department as everyone else is either terrified or awestruck by him. No, it’s the endless hours of overtime that got to me.

I have no life outside the office—I haven’t had time to do anything but work since I became Isaac’s assistant.

So…I quit.

To my shock, Isaac’s stone-cold façade cracks, and suddenly I’m on the receiving end of his full, undivided attention.

All of it.

I thought I was immune to his devastating good looks, but I never stood a chance against how charming he can be when he’s motivated. And after all our time together, he already knows every detail about me—right down to my shoe size.

My coworkers swear he’s doing all this to date me, but that’s impossible. Isaac isn’t the romantic type—he sees it as a waste of time.

The real question can I keep my resolve to walk away when my untouchable boss suddenly wants me more than anything?

A Guide to Bantering With Your Boss is a laugh-out-loud, small-town romantic comedy full of swoon-worthy moments, sizzling kisses, and an office romance between an icy executive and his assistant . It’s a closed door romance with mild swearing/language.

3.25 stars! ⭐ Huge thanks to Nikki Bright & Love Notes PR for the E-ARC

Okay sooo I requested this one immediately after reading the blurb because HELLO?? It gave big What’s Wrong With Secretary Kim vibes and that’s one of my fave K-dramas!! Like, the grumpy hot boss + loyal queen of a secretary combo?? YES pls. Gimme that tension, that pining, that delicious slowww build.

So did it deliver?

Kinda. Ish. Not really.

The premise? Super cute. We’ve got Isaac Warner, stone-cold finance overlord with a jawline that could cut glass, and Charlotte, his sunshiney, ultra-efficient assistant who suddenly quits after years of being his right-hand everything. And what does Isaac do? MELTS DOWN. Tries to win her backprofessionally, romantically, every way. Classic setup. So far, so good.

BUT.

Here’s the thing... the title promises BANTER and there was like barely any?? I went in ready for snappy back-and-forths, hilarious misunderstandings, sexy power plays—and it just wasn’t that. This isn’t a romcom bursting with witty repartee. It’s a super slow burn, soft, very quiet romance. And I mean reeeally slow. One second they’re coworkers, the next they’re in love and I was like wait what??? When did we FALL???

Not to be shady but... I felt this with the first book too. The "banter" never quite lives up to the hype.

Alsooo can we talk about the third act conflict for a sec?? So. Forced. Like... it didn’t even make sense for Isaac’s character?? Felt like we needed some drama so something random was just thrown in. One second he’s the emotionally unavailable boss turned softie, next second he’s doing a complete 180 and I’m sitting here blinking likesir what happened??

Anyway, idk if I’ll keep reading Nikki Bright. Like yeah, there’s something kinda sweet in the way she writes, but I need more. More fire, more tension, more actual banter if that’s what we’re here for. Right now it just feels like all the right ingredients are there, but the flavor’s not hitting. We’ll see.

Final verdict: Cute premise, loved the vibes, but needed WAY more spark and wayyy more banter for a book literally called A Guide to Bantering With Your Boss.

Also!! I’ve read a few boss x secretary romancesTerms & Conditions by Lauren Asher is my absolute fave—but honestly? Considering how much I love this trope, I feel like I haven’t read nearly enough. So if you’ve got recs, drop them below PLEASEEE.

This story was such a sweet read Isaac and Charlotte have incredible chemistry, it's surprising they never realized it until now. After years of working side by side, with Charlotte being the one person Isaac truly lets in, everything changes when she suddenly resigns. She’s not angry with him, just disappointed in herself for never setting boundaries. Now she’s ready for a fresh start, new job, less stress, and the vacation of her dreams.

Isaac always assumed she’d be around, so he never confronted his deeper feelings. But now, with her leaving, he can’t ignore them any longer. Even if it’s terrible timing, even if she might not believe him, he has to try. Charlotte, though, refuses to come second to his work ever again.

She plans to train her replacement and walk away. But Isaac has no intention of letting her go without a fight. The question is, can he finally put love before work?

The banter was absolutely charming, the chemistry was off the charts, and their connection felt incredibly genuine. I enjoyed every single page. If I had one tiny complaint, it would be wanting MORE of that playful back-and-forth between them , given the title of this book. lol. But honestly, they meshed so well, everything just flowed naturally. Either way, it was such a fantastic read! I definitely lost some sleep bingeing this one.

I received a complimentary copy, and this is my honest opinion.

ARC Review 4/5 stars!!

I’ve officially finished this book, and I want to thank PR Love Notes so much for giving me the opportunity to read this advanced reader copy. This was my first book by this author, and I have to say I’m absolutely thrilled I got to read it.

The premise really grabbed me from the start—it reminded me a bit of the Korean drama What’s Wrong with Secretary Kim. It had that boss-assistant vibe, though the situations are completely different. But the energy was similar, and I really enjoyed that.

Isaac was a complex character. He had strong convictions, but his obsession with work really got on my nerves. I’m not a fan of that type of character. However, Charlotte managed to balance him out. She fit into a mold where nothing existed before, and that’s something I really appreciated about the story.

It was a bit hard to read at times, mostly because of Isaac’s mindset. He’s stubborn, obsessive, and I would’ve loved if that obsession had been more focused on Charlotte as a partner, rather than everything around them. That said, the way things wrapped up was really well done and it elevated the story for me.

Is it worth reading? Yes.
Will it frustrate you? Definitely.
Is it a super slow-burn romance? Absolutely.
Is it closed-door? Yes—and honestly, I liked that. I think adding spicy scenes would’ve made the whole dynamic feel more chaotic, and it might have taken away from the emotional development between them.

In summary, I’m giving this 4 out of 5 stars. It was a pleasant read with characters that stuck with me. Will I read the next book? For sure. The next couple has me very intrigued.

Isaac & Charlotte just fit together. Everyone saw it before they did. Honestly I didn’t think they really bantered all that much. They just fit together and had so much respect for each other and somehow just completed each other.

It took a long while before workaholic Isaac realized his priorities, but I couldn’t help but adore him. They were both actually green flag people.

This book is a comfort read and the ending coming together was everything i could have expected. I really enjoy Nikki’s writing and look forward to book 3!

Many thanks to author, publisher, and Love Notes PR for the opportunity to read and review early. It was truly a pleasure to see this all come together.

You know when you think you will only have a few squares of chocolate but then end up eating the whole block? This is what this book was!!! This was a one sitting, can’t put it down book.

Isaac has had his EA Charlotte working with him for years. So it surprises him when she drops her resignation letter on his desk. Tired of being worked around the clock with little of a personal life to show for it, Charlotte decides to take control by leaving her job so she can find a better balance. Isaac is unhappy with her decision and decides he has to work to keep her, however along the journey he comes to the realisation that he actually loves her. Now it’s more important than ever for him to change her mind.

Ugh I loved Isaac. The way he rolled into his brothers house at midnight when it clicked for him that he was in love with Charlotte was so hilarious. She was only ever going to be the one for him.

Charlotte was a really nice change of pace for an FMC! She was kind and well loved whilst also running a tight ship and knowing how to get stuff done. I’m glad she stuck to her guns of wanting more out of life and seeking it out for herself.

Feel good, rom com vibes. This book was just pure comfort, like a warm hug.

ARC Review 3.5 Stars
A Guide to Bantering With Your Boss is a sweet, feel-good slow burn romcom that left me smiling by the end. While the romance took its time to develop, the genuine connections between the characters—whether with friends, family, or their workplace crew—truly stood out. I especially appreciated how relatable the characters felt; they mirrored real-life people with their quirks, emotions, and challenges.

That said, some of the dialogue felt a bit too formal at times, especially in conversations between lifelong friends or close colleagues. It occasionally pulled me out of the story and made it harder to feel the natural ease I was hoping for in those dynamics. This was the main reason for my 3.5-star rating.

Still, I see so much promise in Nikki Bright's writing! Her storytelling voice is warm and charming, and I’m genuinely excited to watch her talent grow even stronger with each new book.

A big thank you to Love Notes PR and Nikki Bright for the opportunity to read this ARC!

I had the pleasure of receiving this book as an ARC. I immediately loved Issac and Charlotte. They’re very much giving Harvey and Donna from Suits which I loved! The chemistry was there from the get go. Parts of it felt a little rushed through for me, but overall I really enjoyed this story!

Mr Darcy vibes anyone?? This one has it 🥰

Charlotte and Isaac have worked together for years. She’s the only one who can calm him, reach him and basically deal with him and his completely work obsessed personality. Isaac trusts Charlotte. In fact she’s probably the only person he trusts, and listens to, and enjoys to be around.

When Charlotte decides that she wants more out of life than working 80 hour weeks, she quits. And throws Isaac’s world upside down. After all these years together, how will he manage without her. And what will fill this void he feels in his chest when he thinks of her leaving?

Oh so stinking cute!! Jane Austen girlie here, so I def picked up on some Mr. Darcy-esqu vibes for sure!! There was a moment that was totally the scene in the 2005 movie “what have you done to poor Mr Darcy? IYKYK

I loved how Charlotte “tamed the beast, how Isaac only let her in. How comfortable they were around each other. Eating off each others plates!!!

I also really loved how Charlotte stood her ground. She knew what she wanted and she wasn’t going to settle for anything less. And Isaacs clear, unfiltered confession!! And how he opened up and tried to woo her lol!! Loved it!

No spice needed here! I’m an equal lover of open and closed door romance. And I love when you’re able to have the feels and get just as excited about a glance or an accidental brush of a knee as you are with a full bloom spicy scene! I loved all the yearning and longing in this one!!

Loving this series!

A Guide To Bantering With Your Boss💼
Guys,I can confidently say I read THE OFFICE ROMANCE of the year
To start with,I want to thank Nikki Bright & LoveNotesPR that gave such an opportunity with this ARC!
A Guide to Bantering with your Boss,is part of the The Warners series, but can also be read as a standalone, our story is about Isaac, the CFO,and Charlotte his assisant.
The main thing I liked about this particular one were the vibes in her book,Bright will make you laugh so so much-personally,I had to stop sometimes because I couldn't continue reading, yet at the same time make you fall in love more and more after each page. Her writing was so comforting, something everyone searches when reads a book and really easy to follow aka the true vibes of a romcom, and taking into consideration that nowdays almost ALL romances are labeled as romcoms, yes you found a TRUE ONE.
Her characters were perfect, with my personal favourite-except our man of course, was Lottie's bff Ella.Like I love, love this girl she made me giggle, laugh was so sweet + suportive!Love ya girl🩷.However, each one of her characters were unique and not the same pattern, just diffrent name culturethat we can see happening usually with the second characters.
Of course both Charlotte and Isaac had an absolute chemistry and were really lovely and cute✨
Added,I adored the little twists she always gave every around 50-ish pages,I believe it played a huge impact on my (in)ability to put this book down.
Ending,my personal FAVOURITE line was the very, very last, read it and you will catch me 💋

A Guide to Bantering with Your Boss is a cozy, slow-burn romance. Though closed-door, the story doesn’t lack cute and fun bantering between the characters and moments of relatability. I felt for poor Issac, but at times, I wanted to give him the nudge he needed to get things going with Charlotte. But if I did, there wouldn’t be a story. It was a cute Romance with a few kisses.

A very cute little romance book!
It’s a closed door rom-com story.

Workplace romance where they’ve been in love with each other for years but quite oblivious to own feelings. They keep it very professional so even tho it’s workplace romance, it’s not one of those when they are all over each other at work, they really keep it separate ;)

It’s easily a fast read, very cute and quite funny. The writing is good, nicely built characters and perfectly balanced side-plots and side-characters. (Ella and her fish endeavors and the goat date 🩷)

I was expecting a bit more banter (you know, cause of the title), but there was not much of it. I liked the first book a bit more, but it was more due to my expectations - the first book really delivered on enemies to lovers part and it was so funny and I loved the whole families meddling and dynamics; for this book I was expecting way more banter and tension between the characters, while it leaned more towards the cute-funny part of the scale. I still very much enjoyed it and I give it 4⭐️, but just so you know what to expect - it’s a very feel-good CUTE romance story with some laughs.

Oh my gosh
Charlotte and Isaac are so cute. I was very unsure of how I was going to feel about this book as it’s one of the first ARCs I’ve gotten and definitely the first one I’ve finished
This book is a book that I just absolutely consumed! I didn’t even realize how quickly I was reading it and read about half the book in one sitting!
This is very much a predictable book which I was very in the mood for after finishing The Four Winds by Kristin Hannah. I want to go back and read the first book in this series! I didn’t read it beforehand because I wasn’t sure when I was going to read this book, and didn’t want to miss the release day.
I highly recommend this book to anyone looking for a very predictable goofy fun time following two characters who have some real flaws but not anything super deep.
This is my honest opinion and I want to give a big thank you to Nikki Bright and Love Notes PR for giving me an advance copy of this book!

✨🍕Thank you to Nikki Bright and LoveNotes PR for providing me with an e-ARC of this book to review. 🐿️✨

Nikki Bright has quickly become one of my favourite go-to authors when I need a cozy, comforting read that’s guaranteed to make me laugh.

“A Guide to Bantering With Your Boss takes us back to the small town of Fox Creek (and Chuck!—iykyk) for a grumpy x sunshine romance between burnt-out executive assistant Charlotte and icy CFO Isaac.

Bright has carefully crafted Charlotte and Isaac’s story to avoid any sort of uncomfortable power imbalance, delivering an emotionally intelligent workplace romance that’s truly enjoyable to read.

Throw in lots of charming banter, a quirky family, and one of the most entertaining micro-tropes I’ve ever read, and you have this five-star page-turner that’s both heartwarming and hilarious!

“Im not giving up. “What? “Im not giving up on dating you.

* Sweethearts when I tell you that this book absolutely caught me off guard by the positive.. I signed up for this Arc a few days ago and seriously this was the best thing i ever did!

* Imagine your Boss having an Obsession with you since forever and you being completely unaware of it because he doesn’t like ANYONE but YOU. Hmhm, and what if your boss buys an entire business just to fire an employee of that business that talked badly of you😩!!

* Now talking a little deeper of this marvellous story, we have our Charlotte that is a 6/5 employee on Warners Print, and our CEO,Isaac that is grumpy and hates everyone, super icy and anti social vibes BUT has the exception to his Charlotte.. 🥹 but we do have a big problem, Charlotte can’t be seen as a second option and Isaac can’t put his work over anyone, not even the love of his life 👀 Charlotte ended up delivering Isaac her resignation, leaving Isaac with his Jaw on the floor. Would he be determined to change for her? Or would he sacrifice his work for Charlotte?

—“You’re worth buying anything for. Me? I just want you.” 🩷

* First of all A GIANT thank you to @lovenotes gave me the opportunity to meet @nikkibright, she definitely became one of my new favourite authors! Her writing is so beautiful and inspiring, her characters are just 😍😍,and more specially ,(for me), the book does not have spice for my non-spice besties🩷 I was so engrossed on Charlotte and Isaac’s history that I Didn’t want to finish the book 😩
* I felt so seen about Charlottes insecurities of not wanting to fully give yourself to someone so quickly, and Isaac.. I feel you more than I feel Charlotte😭 I mean, you stressed me and i yelled at you but I understand you.. This book is forever and ever ever on my heart, please give yourself a chance to this beautiful love story and who knows if @nikki will be one of your fav authors of 2025🥹💗 (but don’t tell me bc im jealous)

A Guide to Bantering with Your Boss is the second book in The Warners series. While you'll appreciate seeing some familiar characters if you've read the previous book, I do think you could enjoy this one just fine as a standalone as well.

I absolutely adored Isaac and Charlotte's story! Isaac is a rather unique character... I wouldn't really say he's a grump... more reserved and serious, to the point of coming across harsh... for everyone but Charlotte, at least. And a definite workaholic for sure! I definitely found myself intrigued by his character most of all. The two have been working together for years and have developed a close relationship as both coworkers and friends, nothing more. But when she decides she is leaving her job to find a better work/life balance, he realizes there might be more behind his feelings. And that intensity and dedication that he puts into his work? He does the same with romance and I was absolutely here for it! There was a really interesting dynamic between the two of them that I couldn't get enough of. When you throw in his family dynamics as well, there was a lot to enjoy in this story! If you love a workplace romance and a MMC that shows his softer side just for her, this is definitely one you're going to want to check out.

A Guide to Bantering with Your Boss is a closed-door romance with kisses only. It does have some minor language.

**ARC received for consideration. All opinions are my own.

Summary:
Charlotte has finally had enough. After endless overtime and no life outside of work, she quits her job as assistant to Isaac Warner, The CFO and the finance department’s resident ice king. Isaac might be brilliant and unfairly attractive, but his perfectionist ways have taken their toll.

What Charlotte doesn’t expect? Quitting seems to wake up her grumpy boss. Suddenly Isaac is determined to win her attention... and maybe even her heart. As Charlotte navigates his unexpected charm and her own growing feelings, she has to decide if walking away is really what she wants, or if her icy boss might just be the one to melt her defenses.

💡Thoughts:
This was such a cute and sweet read! If you’re a fan of sweet romance, workplace romance, and grumpy x sunshine, you’ll definitely want to pick up A Guide to Bantering with Your Boss. Even though this is the second book in a series, it reads perfectly fine as a standalone and I didn’t feel lost at all!

The pacing was spot-on, keeping things fun, fast, and engaging. Charlotte and Isaac’s chemistry was lovely to watch unfold. While the title suggests a lot of bantering, I didn’t feel that was the main focus but honestly, it didn’t take away from how much I enjoyed the story. Their dynamic was heartfelt, charming, and made this such a delightful read. I 100% recommend it for anyone looking for a feel-good office romance with just the right amount of swoon!

A Guide to Bantering With Your Boss is the second book in the “A Guide to Series by Nikki Bright. This book can definitely be read as a standalone, but I do think it gives away a bit of Samuel and Natalie’s story from the first book.

This story is told in dual POV from FMC Charlotte and MMC Isaac. Charlotte serves as Isaac Warner’s executive assistant at Warner Print where he is the CFO. After spending most of the past decade working overtime and supporting Isaac in all areas of his life, Charlotte decides to quit! She loves working at Warner Print, but wants to have a better work life balance something Isaac can’t seem to do himself.

Quickly, Isaac realizes he needs his longtime friend Charlotte to stay in his life, and maybe there’s more to their relationship all these years than he thought. Emboldened by his family, he is determined to win her over and prove she is a priority in his life.

Some things you’ll love:
📊 Friends to lovers
📝 Slow burn, closed door
📈 Dual POV
📄 Grumpy x sunshine
🧾 Quirky side characters

In my opinion, Isaac had the same energy as Mr. Darcy showing up to see Lizzy at her cousin Charlotte’s house, remarking about the weather and then abruptly leaving. And I love that for this story’s Charlotte. He was so into her and she didn’t know what to make of it at first.

This story is a love letter to the little moments that lead to big feelings. I absolutely loved how Isaac and Charlotte cared so deeply for one another and kept writing it off as simply what you do for a trusted friend. NOPE! Y’all love each other!

This was a sweet and excellently paced love story. I liked that their relationship wasn’t founded on covenience or the tension of mutual-hatred (which sometimes workplace romances lean on). They built their friendship and connection brick-by-brick by both being professional, talented and considerate.

A Guide to Bantering With Your Boss is set to release on April 25th. I give it top marks!⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Thank you to Love Notes PR and Nikki Bright for this ARC in exchange for my honest review.

ARC REVIEW

Thank you to the publisher and author for giving me the chance to read and review this eARC 🙂

3.5 stars
0 🌶

This book was cute and honestly not the norm for me when it comes to romance novels. It is clear from the start that Isaac and Charlotte like each other but don't know how to navigate that.

I did like this book. I thought it was a very quick and easy read, but I did find Charlotte to be a bit childish at times. I also didn't like the ending for both MC's career choices because it contradicted most of the book. I would have honestly liked seeing Charlotte & Isaac either doing something completely different OR Isaac remaining in his position but changing things around so his priorities could shift. Most of this book felt like Charlotte strictly trying to change Isaac without fully understanding or being willing to be with who he was as a human being. I was hoping for more character development and it felt instead like full character compromise. That is why my rating is what it is.

I also didn't really find the banter to be very good, despite the title of this book. It was hard for me to connect with either of the MC's as I felt they were both a little dry. I was expecting to laugh a lot more in this book but I didn't find it to be that funny.

Overall again, 3.5 star read. I think this would be a good book for someone who enjoys fairly straightforward, formulaic romance books with a happily ever after.

The 2nd book in the series is about Charlotte and Isaac. Charlotte has been Isaac’s assistant for years. She’s the only one who can handle the grumpy man. Their friendship is fantastis after all their time spend together, and everyone at the office already thinks they’re dating. But Charlotte had enough of the late nights working and she wants to start a life for herself outside of work. When she resigns, Isaac suddenly realises what Charlotte means to him, and he won’t let her go without a fight...
This is such a cute book. It did took me some time to really get in the story, but once I was invested, I loved it. The struggle they had to let each other in, while knowing there was a chance it wouldn’t work out, felt so real to me. You really had 2 people trying so hard to be together. Some pieces of the book broke my heart. It wasn’t all sunshine and rainbows and I love that in a book. I loved all the friendships in the book. Charlotte and Ella, Samuel and Isaac, Nat and Isaac The vibes between everyone are really fun, and it made me want to be a part of their comfortable dynamics. I had so much fun reading this. This is the ideal book to read on a sunny afternoon in your garden. Enjoy! 🧡

I want to start off this review by saying a huge thank you to Love Notes PR for sending me this read to review.

I honestly, really enjoyed this romance read. I am not usually a slow burn kinda gal, but I really enjoyed seeing the relationship between Isaac and Charlotte develop as the book progressed. It felt really wholesome. I really enjoyed getting to know Isaac as a character and really warmed up to him. Yes, he began quite emotionally unavailable, but as time progressed, we definitely saw a more loving, nurturing side to him that I wasn't entirely expecting. I really enjoyed the narrative arc about the difficulties he had with his priorities to work vs his priorities with Charlotte. I think this was explored very well and it was interesting to see his take on the matter.

Overall, such a wonderful read that made my heart so full.

Awwww my heart broke for Charlotte in this one. She’s the long term coworker to CFO Isaac Warner, the workaholic grump who only seems to listen to Charlotte. A Slow burn with mutual pining that both have left unattended due to keeping it professional at work. But it’s time for a change, and Charlotte finally takes the brave step to quitting the long hours, except it’s only when the resignation lands on Isaac’s table, that he realises what he’ll be missing. Loved that Charlotte was strong enough to stand for exactly what she wanted and take nothing less than that. Hilarious banter between her and Isaac but also the dry wit from Isaac, Samuel and Logan! They were the funniest!! Book 2 from the Warners but a stand alone with interconnected characters.

I voluntarily reviewed a free advance copy of this book provided by the author. The opinions expressed are my own

This workplace romance is all charm and chaos, with banter that snaps, chemistry that simmers, and a dynamic that feels like it walked straight out of a K-drama set.

There’s an undeniable déjà vu from page one—if you’ve watched What’s Wrong with Secretary Kim, you’ll feel it too—but honestly? I didn’t mind. It’s familiar in a warm, curl-up-with-a-latte kind of way, and Charlotte and Isaac still manage to make it their own. And when he starts pursuing her? Whew. The man goes from emotionally constipated to low-key obsessed, and I was living for it.

A perfect pick for anyone who lives for slow-burn tension, office drama with heart, and the soft ache of falling for the one person who drives you absolutely mad.

I knew I was going to love Isaac and Charlotte relationship since the moment they were mentioned.

I DEVOURED this book. Sometimes all you need is a clean SLOW burn workplace romance 🥰

Charlotte is an inspiration. Not only as a woman but as a human. Her determination, passion, strength and heart are amazing. And I'm proud of her for looking after herself.

Isaac...well, he kind of reminds me of Dominic Davenport but in a chill version (you'll understand me when you read it) I think his character development is one of the things I like the most in this book. Dude really has a way when he wants.

This whole series has me kicking my feet because the yearning, the banter, the subtle tension is all what's good in this world 🙂‍↕
I'm pretty sure this is turning into one of my favourite comfort book series and I can't wait to read the next one 🩶

This is the second book of this author and the series I read and I can say I fall in love with her writing style more with every book. I mean the way she writes the characters is so cute you can’t resist falling in love with every character in the book.
I have read a lot of grumpy X sunshine tropes but this one has my heart fully. I mean the way he is grumpy and over bearing for everyone but she has the power to tame his every mood is just so admiring. Even though there were some decisions I didn’t like of them but the solutions they provided were satisfactory to me in the end.
This is the story of Charlotte Fisher who works as the executive assistant of CFO of Warner Prints, Isaac warner who is a complete workaholic and has never done anything or thought of anything other than work which also made Charlotte the over-working assistant. Due to having no life outside work, she decides to quit her job and move on in her life but due to this not only Isaac is shocked but the whole team is because no one except has the guts to reach Isaac directly.
As Isaac realizes she is leaving, he realizes how important she is in his not only professional but also his personal life as she has been working for him from the time he started working as manager in the company. But his nature of keeping to himself and never expressing himself is the biggest hindrance in their relation.
Charlotte doesn’t want to leave but the pressure is unbearable for her and no work-life balance has her more encouraging to leave the job. Isaac and the whole Warner family and the team members know about his workaholic self and knows its best for Charlotte to leave but being selfish don’t want her to as she is the only one who can handle Isaac.
Will she leave or Isaac will be successful to retain her not only as an employee but also as lover in his life? Will their love ever be able to sprout under the excessive work pressure and circumstances? Read this beautiful bantering story between the grumpy Overlord and the sunshine executive assistant.

Charlotte has been working side-by-side with Isaac aka the Overlord for years because quite frankly no one else has the patience or mental fortitude to deal with his tyrant energy. But after so much overtime, she decides that enough is enough. What’s a girl to do when she’s overworked with no life outside work? She quits. Cue Code Blue: Isaac spirals into full-on panic mode. Turns out, he can’t imagine life without Charlotte. And folks, that’s the long overdue wake-up call he needed.

This book had me grinning like a fool in public. A joyful read from start to finish. Nikki’s writing is smooth & effortless, I blinked & was 90 pages deep like, excuse me? How did we get here?

This was my first Nikki book & let me tell you, it was fun, low-angst, and bursting with all the “just friends/colleagues who definitely want to kiss vibes. It’s lighthearted, sweet, & delivers all the workplace slow-burn tension a romcom fan could want. I adored those stolen glances, the “we’re just coworkers denial, the emotional repression, knowing each other, & the slow, delicious unraveling of feelings.

Let’s talk characters. Charlotte? Competent, self-assured, & not afraid to take a risky leap when she knows she deserves better. Love how she set her priorities. Isaac? The emotionally shut-down boss man whose cold exterior only thaws for one person (spoiler: it’s Charlotte). His low-key obsession. A brooding man with a soft nurturing streak. The side characters?! Logan & Samuel came in HOT with that sarcastic, dry humor & just the right amount of chaos. Honestly, can we get a Logan spin-off ASAP? Need him to join the club of fallen boys, stat.

Now, minor gripe, the ending & how things resolved felt a bit off or just slightly off-beat for me. Not a deal-breaker, but this missed that kick for me. Still, this was a joyful, charming read that delivered that cutesy-swoony notes expected in a romcom.

Big thanks to Love Notes PR for the ARC, this was a treat to read and review.

ARC Review
Picture this: you are an over-qualified executive assistant to micromanaging, over-achieving man who has no qualms about paying you big bucks for extensive overtime hours.
You have reached your limit...realizing that you have one friend, no date in years, no options and you're only 30. You like your boss, he's good to you and you never feel taken for granted. But you have no life outside of work. What do you do?
You hand over your resignation. You watch as your boss and friend goes through horror and shock right in front of you. You straighten your spine and walk out.
Now imagine the boss/friend offers everything he can think of to try to get you to stay. Your co-workers are shocked and petrified because you're the only person who isn't afraid of him. But you've made up your mind and nothing said or offered will change the fact that you feel like you have no life.
Now imagine you're the BOSS.
You have worked with Charlotte all of both of your professional lives. You depend on her more than you probably should. She's the only person you really trust. She's always there when you need her. Imagine reading her resignation letter and feeling your stomach bottom out and your heart stop for a second. You offer her everything you and your team can think of but she's not happy. You only want her happy. You want to be the one that makes her happy.
How do you express that when you're not good at the personal stuff, like communicating about something other than work. You realize that she's more than your assistant, she's your best friend. Your beautiful, sweet, funny best friend.
All bets are off....Issac cannot let Charlotte leave. But how does he (and his team) make her staying a reality?
The sweetest, cutest, love story. So funny. Beautifully written. A page turner. I read it in less than a day....I could NOT put it down.
My first Nikki Bright book and it gets allllll the stars!
Thank you for the ARC! I'm a little in love with it.

I received this book as an ARC and my honest review is below.
3.5 stars

I love a workplace romance in books, despite how I feel about the power imbalance in real life, so I jumped on the opportunity to read this ARC. Both Isaac and Charlotte are both workaholics and exceptionally socially awkward, just in their own ways. Charlotte is good at small talk and socializing, but has difficulty forming (or at least accepting) more meaningful relationships. Isaac definitely has a "I can't stand to be around anyone but you vibe going, and the whole office knows it - using Charlotte as a go between for all matters. So when Charlotte announces that she's quitting - you know it's going to cause MAJOR drama.
Isaac is unfront and clear in his intentions of trying to date Charlotte, and she is upfront and clear about her priorities and why she's decided to quit the job. They're both exceptionally practical and very determined, so this turns a bit into a battle of wills, but with love on the line.
The ending tied everything together in a nice (maybe too nice) bow. Overall - I enjoyed this one and it was a super easy read, but there were some things that pulled me out of the story because they felt out of place.
