Microelectronic Circuits (The Oxford Series in Electrical and Computer Engineering) 7th edition

Rate this book
This market-leading textbook remains the standard of excellence and innovation. Built on Adel S. Sedra's and Kenneth C. Smith's solid pedagogical foundation, the seventh edition of Microelectronic Circuits is the best yet. In addition to updated content and coverage designed to reflect changes in IC technology, the text also provides the most comprehensive, flexible, accurate, and design-oriented treatment of electronic circuits available today.

Amply illustrated by a wealth of examples and complemented by an expanded number of well-designed end-of-chapter problems and practice exercises, Microelectronic Circuits is the most current resource available for teaching tomorrow's engineers how to analyze and design electronic circuits.

Packed with information and really extensive, I'm sure it's a great textbook. For students of electronics. For students of physics who need it for half a course it's a 1400 pages thick mass of bloody misery.

I don't like this book. The layout is awkward and confusing. Diagrams end up in the middle of a paragraph about something else, makes it really hard to follow. They could do a much better job of collecting the information you will actually want to look back on repeatedly. Using this as a reference is cumbersome at best, there are a couple sections that have this feature so you don't forget how useful it can be, but in general you are better off taking notes. Not to mention the fact that the book also weighs 112lbs (50.9kg). There's also no reference for basic circuit analysis so if you wand to double check a formula for equivalent impedance, too bad. Unless that's in one of the appendices that are mentioned, but not included in the book. They are supposedly available on the website but I have not been able to get to them.

A must-read book for beginners who are fascinated by circuits, or in general, if you want to know about how electronics work. Although, there are other books out there on the same topic, but this is a beginner-friendly book.
It describes about how tiny circuits work and how these things are manufactured. But this book doesn't discuss the conceptual understanding of how to design a circuit, or what kind of different circuits exist in large building blocks of SoCs, and how people use EDA tools to design them.

A solid textbook for developing basic knowledge about circuits. The text is very well-written and the questions are great for applying the knowledge learned, albeit some of the questions are very difficult.

This is the foundational reference on electronic circuit design. Ranging from diodes to mosfets, bjts, op amps, in short, every component used in modern electronics is covered with challenging numericals.

I did not finish the book since I've switched to Razavi. In my opinion, this book is a good reference but it's hard to absorb the technicalities of it, you'll need lectures if you're going to use this book. And the problems are hard of course. Yeah, the book is worth spending your time on.

It was the suggested reference book in my university. Struggled quiet in the beginning but a great resource. Totally relevant in modern semiconductor industry.

An Electronic Student’s Guide to Sedra

First things first, Sedra is NOT a girl!!! Sedra is a man, the author of the most famous textbook of electronics department. The name of the book is not relevant, but still if you are curious, I’m sure any front row student from all four years would be able to oblige you. Referred to as “Bible of Electronics by HRK, it is the single MUST BUY book, even for the students who rely solely on book bank for all their academic needs.

It is said that this book will be useful in all your 4 years of undergraduate studies as it covers Op-amps, basic electronics (p-n junction and transistors), analog electronics and lastly digital electronics. What makes this book different from other books is the theoretical explanation accompanying each concept, unlike a pure numeric approach of others. Its huge bank of solved problems and exercises are the best way for students to check their understanding of concepts.

From the first part of the text; diodes, BJTs and MOSFETs are taught to FE in Basic electronics course (BEL). The presentation of information is not just intuitive, but also a practical as it makes you see the big picture, keeping the focus away from solid state physics (taught in BE).
The Analog part of the text covers almost all topics needed in the undergraduate level as it includes advanced topics like frequency response, filter design, Power amplifier classes (studied in Amplifiers & Oscillators in SE) and also in-depth coverage of complete design of an Op-amp (studied in Analog IC in TE).

In short, the reason this book is popular among students is because it is written for students in a way the students like!

Great book! A must have for every (micro)Electronic Engineer
Excellent for both students and engineers.
It's a book to keep for life!
Explains all form the basics up to the advanced models.
ApOp, TBJ, MOSFET, amplifiers, feedback and so on.
Plenty of clear and well explained examples and many exercises at the end of each chapter.

the next edition is a little update of this one, but both are OK!

This book is very comprehensive. It is one of the most complete books in the field of microelectronics. It actually covers every concept. But one of the disadvantages of this book is that it takes alot of words and sentences to introduce a subject! The reader might read two or even three pages of introduction and then reach the main subject. If you are okay with that, this is your book! do not hesitate on reading it!

although it's a reference for electronic circuits and there are many easier books to understand electronics from but this book is very useful and informative, I really understood everything from the book by self studying it.
