She picked the wrong man to reject. Now he wants her dead.
After a failed attempt on her life by vengeful ex-SAS captain John Stratton, a young British woman takes on a new identity and life for herself in Australia as Chloe Clarke. When a chance encounter leads to a whirlwind romance with the charming and wealthy businessman Tom Wentworth, it seems her fortunes have taken a turn for the better. But as her past life quickly catches up with her and her secrets are revealed, will Tom be able to save her from the danger of Stratton’s murderous intentions?
Antonia Marlowe is the author of Strange Bodies, a futuristic crime thriller also available from The Book Folks on Kindle.
This is an engaging story about a young woman who has to hide her background after her attempted murder by a jilted man. Absconding to Australia she falls for a man who then becomes embroiled in the desperate measures to protect her when her would-be killer discovers her. A good thriller with some cute bits.
DNF. I made it 2/3 of the way through this book, over a very long time (over 2 years!) but it did not hold my interest. I simply didn't care about the characters. The plot was interesting, but needed more tension.
This book was enjoyable. It is a story about a girl who had to run from a dangerous past but, as always, the past catches up to her. The author did a great job in capturing the reader and I had a difficult time putting it down. The only reason I gave this 4 instead of 5 stars is because the couple falls in love at first sight and immediately wants to marry her on the first day. I wouldn't say that I don't believe in love at first sight, but a man who is that wealthy and famous would not realistically be willing to jump and marry the first girl he finds a connection with after an hour. I just found it a bit of a stretch and would've enjoyed the book much more if the author took the time to develop their relationship a bit more instead of just jumping right into it. That aside, the author did a good job in capturing the other events in the book and it was an enjoyable read.
This book is fast moving, interesting, and romantic without a lot of explicit sex to cloud the story. It's interesting to see that protection of the wealthy can have problems too.
No real character development. Decent plot, but over the top and predictable. I dislike bad reviews, I can only imagine the headache at reading them. This was just not a good book.
This was the first book I've read from this author and even though it's based in the UK, I was able to follow along and enjoy every minute of it. Chloe will suck you in with her mysterious past and Tom will keep you wondering if he's good or bad.
