In Violation! The Erotic Author's Guide to Amazon's Content Guidelines

Rate this book
In October 2013, Amazon began purging their digital bookshelves of offensive and controversial self-published erotica - and thousands of authors found their books deleted because they violated Amazon's "Content Guidelines." But what are Amazon's rules for what is and isn't acceptable material? Because the official Amazon Content Guidelines seem a little vague, author Simone Scarlet has created this book to answer that question. This Erotic Author’s Guide is an in-depth, subject-by-subject guide to what's currently acceptable and what's not on Amazon. It covers each of the five pillars of Amazon's Content Guidelines, delving deep to discuss what subject matter is acceptable, what isn't - and how to walk the tightrope between them. Compiled from interviews from other self-published Kindle writers, information gleaned from unofficial sources, plus real-life experiences of those who've fallen foul of Amazon's content guidelines in the past, this book outlines a proven path towards publishing the erotic content your readers want, but that doesn't violate Amazon's Content Guidelines or Terms of Service. Amazon have made thousands of writer's dreams come true with the Kindle Direct Publishing program. Make sure you're one of them, by staying true to Amazon's content rules, while still letting your imagination run wild!

Hi! I'm Simone Scarlet, and thanks for checking out my author page!

I was originally born and brought up in a cathedral city in England, but moved to America a few years ago. I've always written erotica, and have been published in magazines like Hustler and Jacques on both sides of the Atlantic.

I have an INCREDIBLY eclectic range of sexual tastes, and most of them find their way into my stories in one way or another! Most of my adventures are based around a fictional married couple, Gina and Simon, and the crazy and explicit adventures they have.

I'm really turned on by slutty wives, cuckold husbands, interracial erotica and good, old-fashioned orgies and gangbangs. I have a particular kink for impregnation and breeding; and you'll find many of my heroines aren't as careful about their birth control options as I recommend you be in real life!

I am also turned on by the idea of sexual reluctance, or even out-and-out rape fantasies. It's not that I want to get raped - just that rape fantasy is a way to explore wild and kinky sexual activities without getting labeled a "slut" for wanting them.

I hope you enjoy my stories, and welcome any feedback or suggestions on how to make them better!

This is a useful little guide that discusses a number of pitfalls that may be encountered when publishing with Amazon's Kindle Direct Publishing Program.

The author tries to explain what exactly constitutes inappropriate content, while acknowledging that Amazon's Content Guidelines are intentionally vague.

There are examples of things that will likely be flagged, and suggested workarounds.

I found it informative, and while some of the information included would seem obvious, some of it is not.

For a prospective author, this book may help you avoid some issues with having your titles pulled at Amazon, although it is unlikely to eliminate all of your troubles, since the guidelines are so open to interpretation.

It's probably worth the investment for anyone publishing erotica on Amazon.

A case of reading this then having to add two years to my female characters in my first manuscript. However there are some little pearls of wisdom that if you did not know could get your work banned before it has started.

As a Science Fantasy writer, it became clear that bestiality is a big no-no but with a Centaur or mythological creature is fine.
