Darach MacDonald (aka Darach Campbell) is a scout for Angus the Lion. Larena Campbell is the daughter of Fitzroy Campbell, a Jacobite sympathizer. When Fitzroy is placed in prison by Colonel Gregory Chatham and the English garrison, Larena escapes and rides to Lord Rutherford for a pardon for her father. On the return to Leathon Castle, Larena and the English soldiers are ambushed. Darach and his brother, Logan, come across the aftermath, and find Larena unconscious at the bottom of the ravine.

When Larena wakes up, she is at the castle of Angus the Lion. She explains what happened and why it is important she leaves posthaste. The Laird releases Larena into the protection of Darach and Logan. They will escort her to Leathon Castle to save her father with the pardon.

During the journey, Darach and Larena become close. The brothers argue and disagree. Darach takes Larena to Leathon Castle by himself. Their passions ignite and Darach declares his love for her. Will Larena return his love? What will this mean for her father's pardon? Can Larena have both her father and Darach?

I became tired of Larena's emotional angst and confusion. We know more about the hero than we do the heroine. The plot is well thought out. There is a cliffhanger because we don't know what happened to Logan. He just disappears and is not heard from again. In this novel there is a steamy love scene tastefully written.

Oh, the beginning of this book felt like coming home! I¡¯d been away too long and just felt like there was something missing in the books I read. I understand now that it¡¯s being in the highlands. Not in Edinburgh, or with Scottish characters in England, or Scottish books written like regency books. No, I missed reading Highland books about well written, honest and unpretentious, REAL highlanders, with thrilling Scottish history. The first 11% of this book made me so excited, I wanted to fly through the pages.

Logan¡¯s success in deceiving Larena and taking her away just showed the importance of communication. If Darach had been more forthcoming instead of brooding and pushing Larena away, she might have doubted his brother¡¯s claims and refused to leave.

I truly felt the connection between Darach and Larena (besides, I¡¯m a sucker for Darachs!) I love highland books where the hero and heroine get to travel together for a time as it builds the connection between them and these two¡¯s connection was lovely. My heart turned to jelly so many times, ugh I loved Darach and his possessiveness! He more or less snuck up on me as he wasn¡¯t that forthright with his affections until he told her he loved her. It was all so intense.

One thing about this book is that it wasn¡¯t black and white. Sometimes things got so murky that I¡¯d even doubt the hero/heroine. Darach¡¯s past made him something close to being a man without honor but his devotion to Larena was redeeming. There was so much angst and the ending didn¡¯t leave me that satisfied as I wish they didn¡¯t have to keep running and that somehow Darach had regained his true name and honor. Nevertheless, I really enjoyed the book. I see Logan¡¯s is the next and I¡¯m not so sure I like him, but I¡¯ll be reading it anyway as it has good reviews.

Lagi? saya kecewa baca HR terjemahan.

Awalnya kukira tough gara? dia mau mengorbankan bahaya demi ayah kandungnya yg sedang dipenjara oleh tentara Inggris atas tuduhan mendukung pemberontak Jacobite. Namun seiring plot berjalan, terlihat karakternya yg labil dan super galau.

MMC nya, Darach MacDonald atau Campbell ini pny dendam tak terselesaikan dgn ayah Larena yg rumornya membunuh ayah kandung Darach. Larena sendiri jg dipaksa utk menikahi Gregory Catham, kolonel yg berdarah setengah Inggris.

Tapi kalau sepasang sejoli dah kepincut, ? ayam pun rasa coklat.

Yasudahlah... Move on aja aku ini.

3.5 stars - slightly spoilerish

I have mixed feelings about this book and most of them center on Larena.

Darach was a good hero - at the beginning, I wasn't sure about him. But as the book progressed, I really started to like him and by the end, I loved him. This man was willing to give up everything for love and then that love turned and stuck a knife in his heart.

Larena starts out as a good heroine, but by the middle of the book she became too wishy washy for me. She was willing to believe Darach was using her, that he was a bully and that she had lost more than he had. She was told by more than one person that her father was not the man she believed him to be and she knew he had kept things from her. But she flat out refused to believe Darach's explanation of what really happened. At that point, I didn't believe she was worthy of Darach.

When he walks away from her, my heart broke for him. Larena did not deserve his love and nothing she did after changed my mind. She waited a MONTH to go after him - a month! If it took her that long to figure out she was wrong - then she is stupid and deserves to marry Gregory.

I didn't love this book - but it was a quick read and I am glad I read it. I will definitely read Logan's book and seriously hope his heroine is a better woman than Larena.

This series is beyond any other series I have ever read. I've been waiting almost three years, to read this book, Return of the Highlander, nicely written by Julianne MacLean, a story that follows Captured by a Highlander, Claimed by a Highlander and Seduced by a Highlander, and I cannot forget her novella The Rebel. This book has all of the elements you are looking for in a novel: passion, action, secrets, trust, betrayal and forgiveness!

All in all it was a Good read. The moral here is that no one really knows anyone that well, everyone has secrets, some keep them because these secrets are by and large incriminating. The normal reaction of one who has been deceived is like Larena ~ Disbelief. And I don't blame her. It is quite difficult to process the bad things she just learned about her beloved father. Only her strong will and reason plus her trust and faith in Darach will eventually allow them to move on. There is also the hope that they still have a future together. There are many layers of emotions and human frailties that must be dealt with here. Gregory Chatham is one complex character if Lenara's childhood memories of him were true; whereas before he was only a scholar now he is both a warrior and a scholar... he is also apparently a coward. Where is Logan, by the way?

This was a good book, except the constant indecisiveness. I will, I will not, I will, I will not, I will... it never ends! Look, I understand that we need to see the emotional conflict the woman was feeling but we didn't need a re edition every 3rd paragraph.

So, good book, it would have been great but the same thoughts stuck on repeat killed it. Infuriating and unnecessary.

It wasn't exciting as I expected it to be and I wasn't able to connect with the characters. It fell flat. I will read the upcoming highlander books as I loved this author's earlier books in the series.

>Book review ¨C Return of the Highlander ¨C

>I am an independent reviewer. This book is the 4th in the Highlander series and ends in an HEA. Lorena pledged to marry a man in the English army in exchange for her father¡¯s freedom. As she travels back to Scotland to deliver the royal decree, a band of Scottish rievers attack. Darach and his brother Logan find the aftermath of the battle and a badly injured Lorena. They take her back to their clan. Lorena is the daughter of the arch rival of Darach¡¯s clan. Lorena hears things about her father that she cannot believe, such as her father killed Darach¡¯s father. Darach is cold towards Lorena because he does not know or trust her.

>Logan and Darach are charged with seeing Lorena to her home safely, but of course the story would be boring if everything went according to plan. Lorena finds herself thinking about Darach too much. Logan is friendly to her, but harbors a secret hatred of her family.

>This book has a lot of twists and turns, scorned lovers and misunderstandings, but the ultimate HEA is worth the journey. Darach goes from unapproachable to beloved as Lorena discovers truths about her father and Logan shows his true colors. This book is appropriate for an adult audience. I am giving this story 5 stars.

This is the fourth book in the Highlander series. First off, with an Author's name of ManLean, you can feel certain that her Scottish roots just might be pretty good. Given that I LOVE Scottish Historical Romances, I've read all of the previous books in the series. (I read many many books and I'm out of work because of winter weather road conditions) The moment that I recognized the hero in this book gave me a smile because I remember reading about his and his younger brother from one of the previous books. I loved his grown up self and his honor. I also liked how they connected him with his past thru the heroine. Some have written about how wishy washy the heroine became towards the middle f the book, and I always look at it in the way of how would it be for me and my actions after several traumas that happened from a young age, then to have some come at you in a short period of time.
I gave this book a solid 4 and plan to go ahead and purchase and read the next in this series. I tru;ey enjoyed this book, and Julianna MacLean is always a great choice for all the Scottish Historical Romance lovers out there.

I¡¯m biased but this book stressed me tf out. Like I was sweating. I¡¯ve been on my silly little Highlander romance kick precisely because the books weren¡¯t too stressful, but this fucking book was like finals week all over again. Honestly, wouldn¡¯t recommend. The writing really wasn¡¯t good enough to justify the amount of stress this book caused me. Its sole redeeming quality: it took me only about 3.5 hours to read, so at least the stress didn¡¯t last **that** long¡ªstill too long for my tastes though.

This book got off to a good start and kept a good pace. The good guy grew on me favorably and the heroine lost her sparkle as she failed to stay in character. She was spunky in the beginning and increasingly wishy washy toward the end. The big thing that kept me from giving more stars is the ending where the antagonist is finally dealt with (in a manner of speaking). I thought this was a cop-out and the ending felt rushed. However, it is well written and I was entertained.

Wow, I just couldn¡¯t warm up to the H and h. He was moody and terse until he suddenly loved her. She was wishy washy the entire book.

One scene really disturbed me. When the H convinced/cajoled the h into surrendering her virginity to him even though she was betrothed to another man and failure to marry him would mean her father¡¯s death. AND there was a British soldier guarding her bedroom door. Made me squirm.

I found the book to be disappointing. Bummer

Page turner

This book was a real page turner for me. I enjoyed every moment of it. The obstacles that Darach and Larina faced to find their happily ever after were many and I couldn't wait to see how it would all work out. Definitely going to read Logan's story to find out what happened to him when he separated from Darach and Larina.

Definitely not as great as the previous 3 novels.

I didn¡¯t really like any of the characters in this, except maybe Darach sometimes. I didn¡¯t feel the leads had much chemistry. The dialogue was bland, and the villain severely one note. And, the ending was very blah. I loved the previous 3 books in this series, and this disappointed me.

3.25 stars. Not my favorite of the series. Endinh was not my favorite and things were too abrupt in their relationship for my tastes. And the heroine needed a good slap a few too many times to see a good thing when she had it honestly.
