Having a game plan really helps with a football game and it can't hurt to make one for a potential romance. Just ask TyAnne. She really knows her stuff where football is concerned and when she learns there's an empty seat in a football coaching class at BYU that the star quarterback, Anthony "Rocket" Rogers, is taking, she can't resist signing up and taking a shot at getting to know him.
Ty is completely herself, which is refreshing to Anthony. Her football knowledge catches his attention and her sweet, spunky, selfless personality keeps it, which scares him, as he's not looking for a relationship. Her motives start out a little fan girl, but they quickly change. Ty is loyal to her family, friendly to all, and constantly thinks about being kind, even to her stalker. The whole creepy stalker element added a lot to the story, as well giving the reader a deeper glance into the characters relationships.
Rocket is a star and has the attitude that he can love 'em and leave 'em. The growth that he goes through throughout the story is natural and one can't help but fall for him, right alongside Ty. He's just the right amount of possessive and is very protective, especially to those he really cares about. I love his relationship with his sister and with his football buddies, who were also great men. I would LOVE a story about some of those guys.
I really can't say enough good about this book--it has all the elements that I love and isn't cheesy or cliche. The clean romance really had me swooning--so many romantic moments--and the struggles the characters fought to overcome really drove the story. Everything was propelled and tied up in such a way that I couldn't put it down!
Content: mild romance (kissing); no language; very mild violence (stalking, threats of beating up, etc); mild religious elements (mentioned church and BYU, but no preaching). Clean!

This was a fun book to read. It is cleverly written. The conversations between Ty and Anthony kept me smiling and laughing.
In the beginning of the book the focus is on Ty trying to get Anthony's attention. She "meets" him when she purposely enrolls in a football coaching class he is in. Her spunky personality and knowledge of football at first intrigue him. It doesn't take long before the interest becomes a little more personal.
She has a game plan to get to know him, but it doesn't take long to learn that sometimes game plans need to be thrown out and spontaneity is the best course of action.
There were some very positive messages laid out in this fun book. The first is the importance of being yourself. Don't try to be someone you think everyone else wants you to be
The book also looks at stalking. It's pretty scary how much information is out there on the internet. Ty has to deal with the situation of a football groupy targeting her when she becomes close to the team. She also does a little bit of stalking of her own. It's a great lesson to think about what you put out there and what you look up about other people.
Often we put people in a box and label them without knowing them first. We assume that they will react in a certain way. We assume that they don't have interests and talents outside of what we know. This book also looked at that situation and how people can surprise us. Don't judge, don't assume.

This book was so much fun! It is the BYU college scene in full force with classes, friends and athletics. It is also an LDS fiction book and there are religious elements and church events and activities mentioned but nothing overbearing.
Ty and Anthony are both fantastic characters. Their personalities really shine through in this book. I love how they both start off playing a sort of game- with themselves and with each other but then things shift and progress and evolve. Ty is so well rounded and kind. Not only does she know football as well as any of the team players, she can play like one of them too. She impresses everyone with her football knowledge and with her quick mind and soft heart. I really liked Ty. And so did Anthony! Except that Anthony tries to play the game a bit longer because he is a bit broken and a bit afraid.
I loved how the author brought in some meatier topics with the OCD of Anthony's sister and the stalker. It helped give weight and texture to the story.
I enjoyed my time in this book. My older teenage daughter read it too and loved it. It was right up her alley.

I had a hard time in the beginning of this book since it started out with Ty's determination to get the guy and Anthony's arrogance and playboy attitude... but the cute banter and chemistry they shared kept me reading and soon the deeper layers of the characters began to be revealed, making me invested in them and their story. The BYU college setting was a perfect backdrop to the euphoria and pleasure of a new relationship as well as the insecurity and fears. Ty struggles with confidence in the dating arena and Anthony has major trust issues. Sprinkled in to round things out are some roommate drama, a creepy stalker, and loveable family members. I especially appreciated the scenes with Anthony's adult sister Nikki who struggled with severe OCD. It showed that even those with seemingly perfect lives have heartache and trials, and Anthony's love and protectiveness for her helped him not seem so shallow and self-centered.
The characters in this book are members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints and there are some references specific to Mormons (not preaching) but it can definitely be enjoyed by anyone who loves contemporary romance!

Playing for Keeps is such a great read! Ranee Clark has a way of writing characters that you connect with right away. I absolutely loved Ty and Anthony, and had a hard time putting this one down. I got to read this one for Ranee a while ago, and I kept forgetting to critique because I was getting so drawn into the story! This is the perfect summer read for my friends who love lds romance and well-written stories.

This was a bit different than what I was expecting and I liked that! TyAnne Daws is excited to meet Anthony "Rocket" Rogers, the BYU quarterback. She is a true fan who has been watching him for many years. When they meet, they become friends quickly and the flirting begins. She enlists the help of her roommate, Rosie, who had gone on two dates with Anthony, to help her get his attention and quickly learns that she might be better off on her own.
Ty was easy to like right away. I also did like Anthony, even though he was a bit cocky. As the story progressed, I liked him more and more. It was fun to watch their relationship evolve from fun and flirty to something more serious. They had some great conversations and the romance was perfect! It was hard for Anthony to get too serious because he had been burned in the past so he protected his heart by dating lots of different girls. There were also some great side characters: Ty's family, other football players, Anthony's OCD sister and a stalker who created some problems for Ty.
The story is set at BYU and there were a few religious elements, like talk of going to church, but nothing preachy. This is a fun, clean romance that anyone will enjoy!

4.5 - Great book that made me laugh. Lots of fun, great characters and fun storyline. Starting the author's next book ASAP.

I'm a little conflicted about this book to be honest. I think the author writes really well and it was easy for me to get caught up in the story and really visualize everything well, the story was just lacking somewhat. Also I read Double Play first and I wish I hadn't. I really liked the growth of Sophie in double play and unfortunately here she's portrayed really negative.
Ty bothered me somewhat...I liked her at times but other times I wanted her to be stronger and the obsession with Anthony worked some of the time but was awkward also. I also did not like Rosie in this book and was hoping they would have a better heart to heart and not just smooth things over in the end. I understood that Ty didn't like confrontation but I was hopeful when she started to grow a back bone in the end that she would express herself better and communicate better. I did like reading from both Ty and Anthony's perspectives and the insight it gave into their thoughts I just wanted them to communicate better and deeper. David was definitely my favorite character (in both books!!) and I'm glad I got to read more about him in Double Play! Lastly the situation with Dylan was unfinished and unresolved... why, when, where, how... explain him!!! ugh that needed a better closing for sure! it was a good conflict in the story but could have been explained a little more. (he did creep me out though!) Over all reads more of a HS/YA romantic drama 3.5-4* liked the writing style and I'll try another by this author.

Adorable LDS contemporary romance.
I loved this book. I'm a huge BYU football fan so the fact that the whole story is focused around Cougar Nation was such a blast for me.
Tyanne Daws is the daughter of a former BYU football player and along with her three brothers, she loves and lives football. Her favorite player being quarterback Anthony (the Rocket) Rogers. Her dream of someday meeting him finally comes true when she finagles her way into one of his classes at the Y. This is her only shot and she has a game plan. :) Full of laughter, endearing football players, and sweet romance. I enjoyed every page. Such a fun read.

Cute, clean story with a lot of football references. I admit, I'm not a huge sports fan, so at first I wasn't sure if I was going to be able to stick with the story. But the in-depth football info slowed down a bit, so I had an idea of what was happening.
I liked our MC's and they seemed pretty realistic. As always, one honest convo would sure clear up a lot of things. But then I guess that would decrease the size of the book. Still, fun and a little more complexity than your standard LDS romance.
I enjoyed the author's writing style and would definitely read more by her!

Hot quarterback, check. Confident woman, check. Chemistry, chemistry, chemistry. Check, check and check. This was a sweet fun story that also had a touch of seriousness. I was so drawn into this story that I couldn't put it down. This book is a Deseret Book bestseller for both romance and general fiction and it's easy to see why. I highly recommend this book to anyone looking for a fun, well written college romance!

This was a very sweet book. It takes place at BYU, so it is fun to be able to picture the specific places it talks about as you read. Although, it bugged me that the main guy was a BYU quarterback during football season, but seemed to never have practice. Haha!

Growing up my dad refereed college football, and now he does the instant replay for the Big 12, so football has always been a huge part of my life. I honestly think that is why I liked this book so much, I already had an appreciation for the game, but of course the book itself that had me eagerly turning pages. Playing for Keeps is highly enjoyable. Ty is an amazing girl who I liked from the first page. I loved how she was herself from the start, and even though she took friendly advice from her friend, she still kept her head. Ty is the type of girl that shines kindness and radiance, and I loved her relationship with her brothers. Anthony was a mystery to me at first, don't get me wrong, I loved when he was around and how he reacted to Ty. Especially how he would react to how other guys reacted to Ty. I really enjoyed the point of view switches with Anthony and Ty. It was the perfect way to get to know Anthony and his friends (who I loved too.) I loved how Anthony was with them, and especially his sister and family. There were so many fun moments in this book. It is full of amazing kisses, humor, and kindness. GO TEAM!

(Genre:LDS fiction/romance) 3.5 stars. Cute story about a BYU coed who has grown up in a family that lives and breathes football. In fact, she was even named after a famous BYU quarterback, Ty Detmer. Her 2 younger brothers were also named after other former BYU football stars and they all love the game. In her senior year at BYU, Ty manages to get a class with the current quarterback Anthony "Rocket" Roberts. She is so excited to finally meet the football star that she has followed since high school. Anthony is super talented, hot, and is known in the media as being a very good role model for his younger fans. But he is also known for dating around and not getting serious. Except for one previous girlfriend that he got pretty serious with, it appears that he just likes to play the field. But Ty has had a crush on Anthony for years and she is not about to let this opportunity slip past her. She is determined to do all she can to catch the star quarterback's eye.
I didn't go into this book with high expectations, but I liked it better than I thought I would. Cute, fluffy read to fill up an afternoon or two.

This contemporary romance was adorable. Ty is a cute college coed who’s been in love with the star quarterback for ages it seems. Since she knows football better than most men, she feels she’s the perfect fit for Anthony ‘Rocket� Rogers. Making a game plan to win his attention, she tells herself she’ll be happy with just a few dates with the man of her dreams—since he has a record of dating and dumping girls pretty fast. But when her heart gets involved, she wants to play for keeps; but does he? Ty’s unique personality made this story hard to put down. I didn’t think I’d like it so much because it was about football, but even if you’re a football flunkie like me, it still clicks like a seatbelt and is a fun read. The dialogue was witty and I couldn’t help but cheer for Ty as she tries to win Anthony’s heart. There’s a creeper in this story—Dylan—who is absolutely Bleck! Ick! Nasty! He added great tension and drama to the tale. Read this book! It’s awesome! ***I was given this book for free from the publisher in exchange for a fair and honest review.

There are also some fun head-pondering questions as Ty tries to figure out what type of girl she is and if she is different enough from the other girls that Ty has dated so that he will keep her instead of throwing her on the sidelines like all the others. I was a little skeptical when I picked up this book, but it sucked me in. I didn't want to put it down! I loved Ty's character. She was so well written! I love that she is such a football geek & can talk shop with the entire team. Her family members are fantastic. They are sarcastic when called for--I especially loved Walsh. Ty manages to get into the same class as Anthony "Rocket" Rogers. She has had a crush on him for years! (Join the club!) She just wants to get a chance to make an impression on him. Does she ever!
I really enjoyed the camaraderie between the team members. They just treated Ty like one of their own-with or without Rocket. The nicknames were great! Everyone had at least one nick name. Absolutely a fun dessert book for anyone who loves sports and a great romance!

This was such a good read. I devoured it and it keep me smiling for days. It's a cute football romance that even taught me a bit about football. All the characters were fun and easy to love from Ty and the Rocket to the more minor characters, like Rocket's mom. Their motivations were believable and the story seemed to weave itself. The only thing that felt a little forced was the creepy guy. He seemed to show up and I felt like the motivation there needed to be a little bit stronger. I would highly recommend this book to anyone who loves a good, clean, fun romance.

This story creeped me out. The characters are unbelievable. First, there's the main character, Ty. She is obsessed with football. Ok, fine. But she purposely enrolls in a college course just so she can "have a chance" with the star quarterback of her college's team. She believes that she can win this guy over cause she's not like the other girls who fawn all over him. She knows she can "win him over" if she's just given the chance. Uhm, what? Who thinks like this? I know this "stalker" type behavior bothers the author cause she (the author) mentions it twice via Ty's internal monologue. Then, the author includes an actual stalker who's super creepy, and he's literally only there so the reader can see what a real stalker looks like in order to justify that Ty's behavior and motivations are ok. What an odd path for an author to take in a story. As for the football guy ... what an arrogant character. I get it ... he was hurt by another girl. The author reminds us of this often. But the arrogance is so strong with Anthony I had a hard time caring about his feelings. And I didn't care if he and Ty ended up together or not. It all felt so high school. Freshmen-level high school at that.
I liked the premise of this story a lot, and I purchased the book, so I made sure to read it all, but I cannot recommend this book. There are better Sporty Romance novels to read that won't creep the reader out.

This was a really fun read! I really loved it. It put a smile on my face. Love the characters, love the plot. I really like it when the “regular� girl gets the all-too-perfect guy.
I have just a couple of reservations.
-At times Ty seemed way too desperate and hopeful. I think she she should have been a little more reserved, maybe playing hard to get a little.
-All the kissing. I LOVE a good love story with kissing. This book went a little overboard. With details about every little goodbye and hello kiss, each one became more meaningless.
-Oh, and there were very few details about the characters looks. I wish I could “see� what they were seeing.

I loved this sweet football romance, based on a college football team BYU. Tyanne (Ty) loves football and especially BYU football and has learned all about it with her family and always supported the team. She takes a college class so she can meet the star football quarterback Anthony “Rocket Rogers, and just like she hoped he noticed her. I loved the camaraderie between the players and how they loved that Ty knew so much. I loved the humor, banter, chemistry between Ty and Anthony was great even when he tied to deny it. There was great family support, great friendships and sweet romance. A great story that kept me reading until the end! I highly recommend it.

Ty and Anthony's story, the beginning of this series was a fun read. Cute college setting, with a bit of roommate and college sports drama. It was a fun setting, and clever with Ty's knowledge and love of all things BYU football, and Anthony 'Rocket' Rogers career as a student athlete (from a young age to the present). Two honest, caring, hurting hearts, and genuine feelings made for a cute read. Lots of different threads, but the best HEA. Cute, fun, light read.

This book brought back so many fun memories of my time at byu. The author described the setting perfectly. Me and my husband had the best memories sharing our love of byu football at the stadium. And I know that stalker situations can happen like that from personal experience. Mine happened at byu too. Tys roommates really bugged me but I loved Anthony’s teammates. I really related to tys need to people please and her love of football haha. I loved that neither would hold grudges too.

This was a reread for me and I'm so glad I read it again! This is a college-age romance set at BYU in Utah. I love college love stories because that is when I met and married my husband. It brought back those fun times for me. Raneé did a great job with her characters. I fell in love with the entire cast. Trigger/content warning: this story deals with stalking. There are no swears or alcohol and level 1 kisses only. Dual POV.
