An Engineering Manager's Guide to Design Patterns
While off-the-shelf libraries and frameworks have greatly simplified the development process, they can’t help you structure applications that are maintainable, flexible, and easy to understand. On the very last page, the authors admit that:
If you are an engineering manager, I doubt this new book will be of any practical use. A friendly word of warning to the authors, an engineering manager is NOT a dumbed down version of an undergraduate student who wants to learn about design patterns.
[Note: I should really give this book one star, but out of the respect for the book this was inconsiderately ripped from, I am upping it to two stars...]
This little report is based on, and borrows heavily from Head First Design Patterns.which is, if anything, an understatement. This fortunately brief pamplet feels more like a quick cut&paste job of one chapter (on the Strategy pattern) and a few odd bits from that amusing and impertinent book. In short, if you have read Head First Patterns, don´t bother with this book.
