"All families have secrets, but none have lies like this." Blake Salinger leads a normal life in London as a salesman. Every day is planned, organised... safe. But that all changes when the police arrive at his workplace. His wrists are shackled as he is arrested, accused of murdering his estranged father. That's when he is daringly freed by the silver-haired man, a shady ally with the goal of setting things straight... and an unquenchable thirst for violence. Blake comes to learn that he is merely a puppet in a mysterious organisation's plan. With the police hot on his trail, Blake - along with his new companion - must strive to uncover the secrets of his father's murder, before it's too late. Before The Agency catches up to them.

This story began without a real beginning and ended without a real ending. Because of the non-start beginning it was extremely difficult to pick up on the plot and characters. The story was all over the place with no real rhyme or reason for where it was coming from or where it was going. I stuck with it only because I believed there was going to be an explanation at some point that would shine a lot on what it was all about. No such luck. In addition, the characters were weak, one dimensional. The editing was lacking and there were tense shifts throughout. For example, “they were ‘stood by the gate when it should have read, “they were ‘standing by the gate, unless of course someone stood them there, which would have made even less sense. I gave it 3 stars based only on potential and the hopes that the author would reel it in for a rework before releasing it back to the public.
After an opening chapter that sparked my interest, this never really caught fire. The characters are loosely drawn and cliched, even the main protagonists failed to make me care too much about their fate. The plot is convoluted and the outcome inevitable. Everything seems to take an awfully long time to get anywhere. It's a pity because at the beginning I thought there was a pretty decent story line ahead of me.
This book was not my type. Suspenseful story, to be able to understand what was going on, kept going back again and again. People that was supposedly killed wasn't killed. Many interesting characters, but had a hard time reading it. Ending left you with lots of questions.
Honestly don't know how I feel about this book. Read a lot of adam nicholls books now and this certainly is the worse I've read. Very basic and I seemed to get lost at times. Seemed so unrealistic whereas his other books have been great and have kept me reading. I struggled with this and nearly gave it but I hate not finishing a book so battled through it.
Kindle Unlimited, don't remember offhand why pulled this on ku, may have been listed on my freebie sites and came to check it out so flagged it.

Third, 4th, 5th and 6th in the set above. These are about prequel {#4} to everything, #1 is about unknowing people, The Agency, and father's murder, and everything else being all messed up. #2 us about 6 weeks later and still being a target and a missing companion. #3 Can he or they bring down the Agency but at what cost. THIS IS #1
I enjoyed this story but had a difficult time trying to figure out who the good guys were versus the not so good ones. I am a believer that groups like the agency most likely do exist, the complexity of the way the story weaved in and out of the things that were going on was difficult. The author has a mind that is unbelievable at keeping the many different characters and situations separate and yet keeping the story ongoing and meaningful. I was surprised at the ending but I am quite sure that I will again very soon be looking for more of this persons books to read. I recommend this book and author to everyone that enjoys mystery and suspense at the highest of levels because he delivers to the nines.
An OK read but somewhat underwhelming. In places it caught my interest and I wanted to read more while other sections just didn’t seem to fit and became a bit repetitive. The characters were OK. The start was quite slow and the ending was left up in the air, obviously wanted me to purchase the next one but I don’t think I could plod my way through another one like this. I guess it just wasn’t for my while other readers would thoroughly enjoy it that’s why reviews are interesting to read as they reflect taste. I won’t bother another like this but then at a later date I might be caught be a description. It was free so no complaints at that.
The dramatic start, to this first book in the Bloodline series, drew me in and I was kept eager to discover what was about to happen next. If you like car chases, followings many twists and turns, not knowing what could possibly happen next, you’ll really enjoy this book. My only frustration was that the book ended, just as I was looking forward to finding out what was going to happen to the Salingers next. Now I have to read Dead Ties......
Excellent book! Can't wait to read Books Two and Three in the series!
I read this book so fast and can't wait to order the next two! Non stop action from start to. finish! Great villains and innocent people dragged into a tornado of evil that is the work of The Agency a group of spies and killers, and no retirement!
The story has a good pace and is well written. I was left with the feeling that this book was the introduction to a deeper plot/story and readers will have to read subsequent books to see where the story eventually leads.
If you are looking for a fresh voice in the genre I recommend trying this book and author as an option.
This could quite possibly be the dumbest book I have ever read. I read the whole book...it is so disjointed I have no idea what it was about. I read other reviews since I finished where others feel the same way. And on top of it all...I guess he thinks we are sitting on the edge of our seats...we are now supposed to delve into a sequel. 😂😂😂 Right!! Please save your eyesight!
The beginning had me hooked. I wanted to know why this guy was ready to die.
I freelance edit books. It was just interesting enough to keep me reading. I'm not hooked enough to read more in the series. I wish some part of the back story (why the Agency wanted the main character really dead) had been fleshed out more.
Blake didn't have a good relationship with his father - but that didn't mean that he would kill him.
It's a complicated story - Blake gets arrested and then someone helps him escape. There's a mystery about his father's life and maybe his father had something that was important.
The main character gets framed for the murder of a guy who happens to be his father. The story takes off from there with a number of characters who aren't always what they appear to be. The plot twists were fun and kept the reader guessing and engaged to the end.
This story likes throwing in as many twists as possible but doesn't explain Half of them. Plenty of action but still somehow I struggled to stay interested
Initially things seemed to be moving along with a good storyline. Sadly it seemed to become implausible. I was hoping it would improve but no. I was left feeling underwhelmed.
This is a good story. After reading, I looked at some reviews and found that others don't agree. What I like about this story is the character dynamics. Give this a shot if you like the character interaction in stories.
Good read, characters and storyline. The agency was there for the kill. Old enough and ready to retire you had to try to get away alive. Lots of lies and mystery going in. A definite must read
I really don't know how to respond to this book. I didn't enjoy it. I'm not saying it's a bad book just a strange story. Storyline nor characters kept me engaged. Plot starts out good but then drowns.
Great book with enough twists and turns to keep you gripped. Fast paced and lots of action. Definitely recommend to anyone who likes the Bourne series.
This was an okay book. It was not bad nor was it a great book. It held my attention at times and others times not so much. The story seemed to flow but became boring as it moved along.
As indicated this book was just okay. The story immediately captured my attention, but sadly like other readers it quickly became convoluted to the point I lost interest. Point of fact I finished the book and was disappointed that it did not deliver on what could have been a great plot. Do not recommend.
