Out of the Cage: A bear of a man walks into a bar…and meets his slender, clean-cut opposite. It could be love at first sight…or not.
Hessian Roshburg, Hess to the few he calls friends, loves beer, barroom brawls, and breaking into places he’s not supposed to. He also enjoys strolling through the woods—in Kodiak bear form, of course—and scratching his back on trees. After dropping off a stolen file to his friend Dillan, he indulges in one of his favorite pastimes. He visits a gay bar for a few beers and a little dancing. He’s shocked when he bumps into his mate, literally, and it’s none other than a straight-laced, stick-up-his-ass raven shifter named Gilbert. Hess can’t wait to ruffle the guy’s feathers. In an effort to figure out what makes the other shifter tick, he digs a little too deep and uncovers a couple of secrets he shouldn’t, putting not only his own life in jeopardy, but the lives of those in Gilbert’s flock. Can Hess fix his mistake, prove his intentions, and keep his mate and friends safe…all at the same time?
Never seems to fail lately.. there's always a phrase that is used so much as to become ANNOYING..
Hess kind of seems a combo of too laid back and too cocky to me. And I didn't get the same vibe from Gil as blurb suggested. "straight-laced, stick-up-his-ass raven shifter" Gil isn't really presented like that 24/7. In MY opinion anyways..
Also.. what the heck is this impression? "he [Hess] digs a little too deep and uncovers a couple of secrets he shouldn’t" What's so secret? That the flock was held captive? That one of the scientists escaped capture? Dig?? He did an online search.. real Deep.
Gil's reaction to finding out what Hess inadvertently stepped into was.. I mean, come on.. his MATE.. why on earth would he jeopardize his mate.. I probably took that part the wrong way..
AND... the shifter council nonsense...it may be time to put the ridge pack to bed and have some cameo's in the spin offs
Or perhaps the headache I've been nursing all day has made me super grouchy and a tad over sensitive towards this couple.. Perhaps other reviewers will confirm or deny...
Hessian “Hess Roshburg is in town to give a stolen file to his friend Dillon. He loves breaking into places and he loves going to bars. He finds the perfect one where he is surprised to find his mate. He is a straight-laced raven shifter and completely opposite to Hess and his Kodiak bear. H would nothing better than to ruffle his feathers and finds himself digging into his past. His digging though brings unwelcome attention and Hess must now keep his new mate.
Hess was a complete opposite to Gilbert. He is a huge Kodiak bear while Gilbert is a small raven. Hess is into fun while Gilbert is more hesitant. Hess had been a wanderer and Gilbert wanted to stay and keep his flock safe. Is there a happy meeting place? Read this one and find out.
Leseempfehlung
I feel like this should have been in a separate series. It involved a bird pack with their own alpha and everything. The stone ridge wolves were involved but kinda in the background.
A gorgeous shifters story about a bear and a raven. They make a great team especially at the end even with the bullets flying. Hector is funny and would love to read his story. I enjoyed reading this one. Hessian or Hess was big bear shifter and on his way through Stone Ridge to see his friend Dillon.. Having met up with Dillon and his mate Derek they'd check out the pubs in town. Gilbert was a raven shifter and was hitting the dancing floors for some fun with friends. Someone bumped into him and was surprised to find his mate.. yah Gilbert wasn't happy with the mate idea, but he cant fight it for long. Things though don't go smoothly especially people after Hess.
On a major re-re-read of the Stone Ridge world. I usually enjoy Charlies' short stories and novellas (the occasional one is a clunkier) but I have found that the best way to read them is to series binge and read them in the recommended reading order for the 'world' instead of by series. This gives a much more satisfying read with a more consistent plot line and world. Even the clunkers become acceptable as a small part of the whole. The characters are still good, and as usual Charlie uses stereo types with skill and develops characters indirectly. The only characters that develop depth are those who appear and then reappear frequently.
Gilbert was one of a few bird shifters (flock) who was saved in Russia by shifters and vampires. His mate was a bear shifter, Hess, and they were adorable together and also total opposites. The plot was smooth and engrossing with a wide cast of engaging characters, especially, Hector who was totally precious and brought a smile to my face every time he was mentioned. Ultimately, it was a very pleasant read. =)
Hess and Gilbert's story is a great one. We see a little into each of their pasts. Their personalities jump right out at you as does their attraction to each other. Of course the path to true love is always a bit rocky but they figure it out..maybe even a little rescuing of each other is also involved. We get to meet, whom I hope, will be future main characters of more books to come. Quirky and intriguing as are the one from previous books who are interwoven throughout this story. I love meeting new characters who capture my heart and imagination as well as visiting those who already have.I highly recommend this book. I hope you enjoy it as much as I did. Happy Reading!!
Way too short. Very enjoyable read. Love the entire series, can't wait for more. Only issue, run on chapters. No definition on time. Put his head down, next line...three days have passed. Felt like that should have a new chapter. Disconcerting. Thought I had missed something and went back and looked. Happened at least 3 times. Stories seem to be getting shorter as series progresses, could be me. But that is why only 3 stars.
My biggest issue with this one was that time lapses weren't broken up well. One paragraph had a character heading to the back of the bar and the next paragraph had him in a hummer, outside a house. . . an entire day later!!! There were a few of these WTF moments that had me floundering for a minute or two. Other than that, at least the plot was complete.
2.5 Stars - I've never read any of the other books in this series so that might have made a difference. It wasn't bad it just didn't have anything that really stood out. The characters were okay and I thought the idea of a bird shifter and a bear shifter would have some humor but I didn't really find any. Lots of "my mate" talk and not much development on the characters.
Paws, Preening and a Pumpkin Patch (Wolves of Stone Ridge Book 31)
I love this series so when I see a book in it is coming out I grab it as soon as it his amazon I can't wait to see what happens next I know it will be just as great...
As expected with Charlie this is another fluffy novella. Her characters are all supposedly tragic in one way or another but all are healed by the mate pull and magic peen. Enjoyable over morning coffee.
In this one you find out what happened to the Avian shifters rescued in Driving Borscht Batty. The usual hotness between fated mates. I can't wait to read about Hector and Rocky.
Gilbert, one of the rescued flyers, finds his mate in Hess. Gilbert questions the timing but Hess is persistent. Lots of action and a confrontation with bad guys.
Ok first things first, the story did so not follow the blurb, at all! Gil is not as described (I think so anyway, he doesn't act like he as something stock on his a.. all the time), Hess character is way to lay back totally doesn't blend with the picture we are giving of him (I thought he would end up being a leader daddy or something...lol..) like seriously I though, it was about some secret government files or something, but he just searched for the scientist online, like googling this guy, which is just kind of ridiculous. This was ssssssssoooooo not what I was expecting. This book also felt like almost the start of another series with in a series.....facepalm. Anyway... I was disappointed with this one, hope the next one is better......
