Deadly Inheritance by Amy Corwin
Nora James loves being a veterinarian. Unlike all the humans in her life that always let her down, animals were more faithful. When she finds out that an uncle has died and she is one of five who might get an inheritance...money to help her with a no-kill shelter... threats soon follow. She finds herself needing to trust someone again. Will he let her down as well?

Gabriel O'Brien has plenty of jobs waiting for him, he should refuse to help the beautiful woman that was sent to him for help. Something about her had him saying yes. When bad things start happening, he finds he'll do whatever he can to keep her safe.

I love Amy Corwin's mysteries. She has plenty of suspects but throws in just enough curve balls to keep you wondering if they are guilty or not. Add a touch of romance and the story is complete.

Interesting story

This was pretty intense. There was a paranormal spin to the mystery and while I guessed the "who done it" about 3/4 of the way, I wasn't sure how the person was pulling everything off. The romance was fairly clean. There were no sex scenes and the language was fairly mild. The book was written in a formal language. At first I thought it was British, but when I realized it wasn't I realized it was simply a device for setting which kind of was "Clue-esque". Overall it was a good story and I enjoyed it.

Disappointing

The premise of this book was so intriguing. Nothing like having a bunch of strangers stuck together in a haunted house to create mystery and suspense. Except, it didn’t. The plot was convoluted and the characters were very one dimensional. The heroine was a complete pill, wafting between needy and churlish every time she opened her mouth. For an educated woman, a veterinarian, I found her to be very immature. The relationship between Nora and Gabe felt forced and unconvincing. I think if the author had focused on writing a murder mystery and skipped the “romance this may have been a worthwhile read. Overall, it was just disappointing.

This was the first book I read by this author and I just loved it. I love when there is a manly man as one of the main characters and also a strong female character. The story moved at a good pace and I'd highly recommend reading this book. I look forward to reading more books by this author.

A Page-turner

I couldn't put this book down. I had to find out who was killing the cousins. I never dreamed who it was. I don't want to spoil the ending for other readers. I thoroughly enjoyed this book and so glad it was not a cliffhanger.

Deliciously creepy haunted house murder mystery in the style of Agatha Christie.
Nora's vile uncle has died--murdered or suicide, the police can't be sure. Nora finds out she is one of the heirs to the uncle's fortune, but must stay in his rotting, haunted mansion for two weeks in order to inherit. There are several other cousins involved, including Drew and Candy, who are the selfish and greedy cousins. Her lawyer (and godfather) suggests she bring a body guard with her, since if the uncle WAS murdered, she might need protecting. Enter Gabe, a handsome PI.
Once Nora and Gabe arrive, they are appalled at the terrible condition the house is in (and why does it have a stinking moat around it?)
The characters were well drawn, the romance between Nora and Gabe was PG and all the ghostly goings on made me get up and turn on the lights. I blew through it in a day.

Good mystery

This was a good story, with likeable characters and an interesting plot. The setting was unique and pivotal to the resolution of the mystery. The style of writing makes it light reading, but if that's what you're looking for this really fits the bill. I had just finished reading a classic suspense story and so found this to be a bit tame, but entertaining nonetheless.

Enjoyably different

This story is so different I am thinking it's hard to describe why I enjoyed it so much! Well written, romance without smut, suspense without blood.... Very good read!!

I wanted to love this book, but it fell a little flat for me. The plot had promise, but it moved a bit slow and the writing just didn't draw me in. The romance also felt one dimensional.
